I can usually translate, even cricket terms, but still get muddled over things like plural nouns and RP. Working with those inside the Magic Circle, it seemed that their point was to be arcane and not write down the rules, linguistic and otherwise. It was their way of spotting outsiders and keeping them that way. Thankfully, there are lots of more down to earth types that are more enjoyable.</p> <p>I wouldn’t blame it all on the ancient universities; one of the best writers I know is an Oxbridge medical researcher.
