I’m getting rather ambivalent about having celebrities get waterboarded, even when it changes their opinion like Erich "Mancow" Mueller. It’s torture, now he knows it. But the more it is done the more it becomes a parlor trick in too many eyes. It’s torture, it’s a crime not a game of Cranium.
And you still have a result like this from moral degenerates:
Mancow also revealed that his friend Sean Hannity "called me and said ‘it’s still not torture.’"
So more evidence that Sean Hannity is an a-hole. That’s already been proven. I’ll let Charles P. Pierce sum up the Id of Hannity and his ilk (oh, I love that word):
We moved into an era in which the reflexive instincts of the Gut were celebrated at the expense of reasoned, informed opinion. To this day, we have a political party—the Republicans—who, because it embraced a “movement of Conservatism” that celebrated anti-intellectualism is now incapable of conducting itself in any other way. That has profound political and cultural consequences, and the truly foul part about it was that so many people engaged in it knowing full well they were peddling poison.

About Firedoglake
These Conservatives have lowered the bar so low, they are not only a danger to themselves but to the country as a whole thanks to a complicit media and an ever expanding petri dish of under informed and under educated followers.
Here’s a YouTube of a herd of ilk and their natural behavior:

ah, go ahead an waterboard em.
Good morning, pups. MoDo and The Moustache of Wisdom are both off today. Just so none of us are left without the “wisdom” of the NYT columnists I’ll give you a linky to “The Conversation,” in which Bobo and Gail Collins discuss current events. Today’s offering is called “Is Obama ‘The Boss?’,” in which we learn that the president may be taking charge of the U.S. and doing a good job, but as far as David Brooks is concerned, he’s no Bruce Springsteen.
I’m not making this up, you know… Here they are. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
The coffee and tea are ready, and the corn muffins just came out of the oven. I’m off to get another cup of tea and feed breakfast to the porch cats. Have a great day.
It’s time to yank Hannity kicking & screaming so he can be waterboarded! Oh wait. He’s a wimpo….a true true conservative. Nevermind.
When a celebrity is abducted from his home in the middle of the night by 4 special forces personnel, bound, hooded, transported in a cargo plane to an undiscleosed location, then waterboarded in a room full of strangers, and *then* declares it is or is not torture… I might listen.
And then, I don’t need Mancow, or Hannity or even anyone here to tell me… This is torture.
And, like most criminal acts, it isn’t even smart.
The Goon Show was required listening growing up in England. They sang some songs that I still have in my head like Ying Tong and I’m Walking Backwards to Christmas and of course the wonderful characters, Bluebottle, Eccles and Minnie. The cast of Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine and a few others.
Thanks for the reminder of a great program.
Oh, and the screeching right wingers, Fuck ‘em
As usual, Mr Pierce hits the nail on the head. When did we get so dumbed-down as to reward stupidity and ignorance? It’s appalling, though fascinating (sometimes), to see politicians, pundits, and complete morons (Joe the Plumber, anyone? Sarah Palin?) get all of the airtime they want. The non-morons, not so much. Apart from Fareed Zacharia’s Sunday program, there is zero intelligent discourse (much less intellectual) on the Sunday morning blather-fests.
We’re in the hands of idiots.
Oh, and Pat Buchanan needs to be laid to rest. His shtick died when Nixon was in office. That or rename MSNBC the All Pat channel.
From the horses mouth,concerning waterboarding:

If Hannity still does not believe it’s torture, all the more reason for Hannity to undergo the treatment.
yup!
Exactly Mack! *thumbs up*
We are exceptional Americans with exceptional weapons and exceptional bloodlust.
We exceptional Americans can invade anywhere ( except if they have nuclear weapons. S.K.?) and off 100,000 or more an hour. We run prisons that have exceptional capacity. Now, when we invade there’s always a few patriots that stand up to the rapists intent on raping their beloved country. So we lock up the invaded country patriots but don’t speak their language so to control the resistance , 23,000 or so locked up ,we hang them from the ceiling and randomly select a few for water torture so as to castrate the whole prison. They know what’s coming and every defense God gave them, their hands and feet, are bound by goons and thugs. But not their mouth ,except when we turn the hose on them, so as to let their unanswered pleas for mercy roll through the prison bouncing off the dark, dank walls. The universal language they understand is laughter, the TORTURERS yucking it up while laying it on, as their fellow citizens are tortured, they come to understand we are some wild and crazy Americans in service to Satins highest calling.
Just tie Hannity to a board and have Beck stand over him and talk about how scared putting a brown person onto the Court makes him. Hannity wouldn’t last more than 10 seconds down there.
robber barons, federalists, libertarians, all the same
they peddel poisen for two reasons;
one, they make money on the poisen
two, the fewer people there are the more they can claim for themselves
sick sociopaths, a sociopathy that is learned behavior, done with full knowledged of those being harmed, yet the creed is, “if it helps me it harms no body”
what exactly is this supposed to mean?
The Rethugs will now steal and reshape an old Army slogan:
Be as dumb as you can be.
Is that a wedding ring on the hand pointing at us? How scary. Someone to scream all the time. In my home it was very important to know about an inside voice….these 2 did not learn.
Amen. It’s always the physical cowards and anti-intellectuals from the right wing who tower above the discourse over such maters as waterboarding, i.e., Buch, Cheney, Rove, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Rumsfeld, Tenet, Wolfowitz, et al and shout it down to their level. All patriots from an armchair afar unlike a General Powell or General Petraeus, for example.
Charlie Pierce is right on once again! Many thanks.
We have to resort to torture for controlling a large population of peoples that didn’t invite us to invade them.
Do you want to argue that we didn’t murder 100,000 citizens of Iraq in the first hour when we lit up Baghdad?
i have a problem with cluster bombs, Nuclear weapons, Puff the magic dragon gunships, 20,000 # “daisy cutter” bomb, claymore mines just to name a few and the country that leads the development of exotic weapons.
This wanton waste dismayed me my whole life. The squandered resources that could have been applied to medicine, education and social stability dismayed me my whole life. I’m just a peace crazy kinda guy.
But they don’t want Supreme Court justices to have gut feelings, such as empathy, to interfere with their cold-blooded pro-corporate reasoning. That might interfere with the mental gymnastics required to misinterpret the original intent stated in the Preamble: ”…promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…” But then I guess it depends on what the meaning of ’ourselves’ is.
Uh, ok I’ll argue that. You want to make a point that’s great but just throwing stuff up there isn’t all that effective.
IIRC that figure is higher than the “official” estimate of Irakis killed after a couple years.
Saw yesterday that some dope saw no difference between waterboarding and a beer bong. I suggested that he be waterboarded with beer after signing a statement exonerating his torturers of responsibility if he drowned. Maybe if enough of these jerks get waterboarded, one of them will drown and then we won’t hear anymore about it.
Hannity really stepped into it.
He knows waterboarding is torture, but, if he were to experience it, he could no longer deny this and his act would come apart.
…and the truly foul part about it was that so many people engaged in it knowing full well they were peddling poison.
I agree with this but don’t understand it. Isn’t it sorta like seeing dog poop on the sidewalk and going out of your way to step in it?
