It takes one hell of twisted personality to start tweeting that Sonia Sotomayor is a "racist" while you are in the midst of visiting Auschwitz.
But those are apparently the priorities of one Newt Gingrich.
If only he could wear Cheney’s classy green parka.

What is the matter with these people? Diarrhea of the tweet?
Newt encapsulates all that is bad about Republicans in one untidy package.
Man’s a real fashion statement. Or is that fascist statement?
Yeah, when you can’t unplug while visiting a Holocaust memorial something is pretty wrong.
You have to eat 100 live puppies to acquire the Sweepstakes award parka. Even Newt didn’t make the cut.
99 is still worthy of a dishonorable mention.
Good Afternoon Attaturk and Firedogs
you said it ratty – Auschwitz will f* you up. I don’t care how well prepared you think you are in visiting these sites – you are never ready and this creature isn’t simply tweeting to share the weight of the experience, oh eff no, the boy is sending political statements ?!?! do we need any further proof of his sociopathy ?!?
I visited Auschwitz in June 2001. The barbed wire was down for restoration, there was grass and trees, the day was gorgeous. It almost looked like a summer camp. The museum director needs to visit the Holocaust Museum in DC to learn how to restore the site. It didn’t look a thing like this. Here’s some examples of what it looks like today.
The poor white man just can’t catch a break in this country.
OT
Look’s like Sestak is gonna challenge Specter.
Yeah, they’re down to a mere 90% (or more) of the power structure of the country. My heart bleeds for them.
seriously, he’s tweeting at auschwitz?
Sure. Not enough bandwidth to post the slideshow.
Newt = pathological hypocrite =
The new photos certainly don’t evoke the sense of foreboding that the vintage one does. Kind of like visiting Civil War battlefields (the ones that haven’t been repurposed as suburbs and shopping malls). There is nothing to convey the carnage that happened there just a short while ago (historically speaking).
OT.
Josh Marshall is reporting that Sestak is going to run against Scrapple. It’s gonna be a tough one for him.
Right you are. Hadn’t thought of that analogy. The only battlefield I’ve visited is Gettyburg. We went around with one of the park guides and she explained how the battle went, which I found fascinating. For one thing, I’d never thought about the importance a small rise in land for position in that kind of fighting. So I didn’t think about the fact that it looked like a park, not a battlefield. Don’t think they could do much about that.
For Auschwitz, however, all they need to do is replace the grass with dirt or gravel, and cut down the trees. That, at least would go a long way.
Whoops, looks like you owe eCAHN a drink.
What do you expect from someone who leaves his wife who was recovering from cancer surgery in a hospital bed for another woman?
He’s one sick tweet.
You owe me a drink.
Does Tweety tweet?
To quote a great woman, if Sestak runs,
“I think you start, you know, talking about the liberal blogs and all that taking over the party”.
Just like with Ned Lamont.
Like the minister said who baptized Newt. “I must not have held him under long enough.”
Wonder if the fact that it is in Europe contributes to a difference in perception? So much blood has been shed, practically the entire continent has been a battleground at one time or other.
My wife is from Appomattox. Strange thing that McClean lived near Bull Run and moved to get out of the way of the war. . .and it ended in his living room.
too funny, i was just reading about him in (danger) *wash t—-*

and was epu’d when i wrote this about cheney and newt–newt visiting which isr gov official/isr def dep official is his tour guide? meetings with anyone? fundraising? negotiating anything?
hope he trips on a loose brick.
epu’d–
well, he’s got a lot of time on his hands now.gotta stay busy…
him and newt, grazin’ and escaped from the corral…it’s sad really…gop’ers aren’t laying out the big bucks for speaking engagements, in fact i bet it’s hard to fill up the conference room since the ticket of admission can’t buy anything anymore.
lotta time to read and reflect. and change history if he can help it.
wonder what dubya’s doing?
oh, forgot, he’s fine with it. he’s outta there. got-er-done.

=====while watching commenter on fox talk about gm, and obama—i just noticed that republicans base their framing/comments on what they have done and what they would do, and say that is what the democrats would and are doing, when it is the last thing dems are doing and would never do….we should start saying the same things…(not the greatest examples) republicans are for health care for everyone, a chicken in every pot, cutting taxes, road to citizenship, equal rights for all, women’s right to choose, liberal everything, empathy…
they are absolutely frighteningly twisted.
Interesting question.
My hypothesis would be that making a museum that evokes the subject emotionally was an innovation of DC’s Holocaust Museum, and the idea hasn’t made it’s way to Poland yet. But that’s just a thought.
That would be a big problem if Noot were a Democrat.
First of all, I love your title. (as a former German major, especially)
Second of all, I just wrote a long piece near the end of the former thread – re Sotomayor. It’s more a psychological take, but it points out, I think, the trouble repubs are having to trying to gain traction in taking this nomination down.
It’s not really off-topic since it’s on the same issue. And since it’s long, I’ll just give a link. It’s here. Enjoy!
Is Newt funding his European vacation out of pocket or his campaign funding it?
after having a long talk with Jane I’m not feeling really optimistic about this one. The FISA vote is going to be a real problem for Joe. Not to mention that Arlen will undoubtedly find a way to vote for EFCA at which time Labor will have to back him.
Wish I could be more excited, but reality bites.
I guess I do. Wish it felt better than it does. See my 31.
Thanks. I agree. No one could not like her on initial impression. Critics look deranged for sure, just like they do when they criticize empathy as a concept.
And by the way: What the heck was Ed Rendell thinking?
Guess Sestak must have told the Dem powers- that- be to buzz off. I read yesterday that they were going to tell him to not run against Arlen.
Good points. Sestak is apparently no Grayson.
Gravitas (from Latin) is a quality of substance or depth of personality.
Sotomayor-Womanly Gravitas
Womanly Gravitas-scares the crap out of conservatives, they don’t know what to do with it.
Ed Rendell thinking? What’s wrong with that picture?
not by a long shot. And he hasn’t signed on to Grayson’s bill either.
Love it ! (((Loo Hoo)))
I had a conversation about this the other day, still can’t decide: Where is Rendell’s reward for backing Specter? Is Biden not on the ticket in ‘12? Obama’s margin in PA was how many points?
Governor of Pennsylvania is a serious office, requires serious executive experience… I may be thinking along analog channels when 64-bit would be more appropriate.
BTW, to our Cali. Firepups, has there been a ruling on the Prop 8 Injunction as yet ?
I totally buy that! A woman of substance.
Even Mr. TheraP, whose native language is Spanish says the latin term is better than any word he could come up with in Spanish. Leave it in the Latin, he tells me!
Yep. No gay marriage, but the ones completed will stand.
And HI!
a) Latina is an ethnicity, not a race
b) NYT made sure that we knew that Sotomayor said she did not know how her ethnicity and background affected her judging in the same speech. A racist deliberately lets their ethnicity and background affect them
c) The speech was a reflection on being a constructive part of the existing system. The Iranian leaders for which the first tweet is code would never say anything of the sort.
I have the distinct feeling that Biden will only serve one term. I hadn’t considered Rendell…
But there is gravid, meaning pregnant.
And, it says in Chambers-Murray that Ovid used gravitas to mean pregnancy.
Other translations of gravitas for people:
dignity, seriousness, influence (Cic, Liv)
(as affecting a particular matter): weight, importance. Also of things
How many times can the word disgusting be used to describe the Newtster? Psuedo-ignorant, blundering opportunist doesn’t begin to capture him.
Wife is on 3rd circuit court. Somehow I don’t think she would make it to SCOTUS though. Don’t see anywhere Ed can go next other than a cushy ambassadorship, but then that would break up the family. I just don’t get it.
I think that prediction is becoming more certain by the day.
he doesn’t have the moxy to do that job. Second term—if there is one—needs to have a veep with a bright future. Somehow I don’t see that in Rendell.
Fall on your sword and support this particular Democrat in PA?
That must have been some phone call.
Unless he wants Labor, it’s the only thing that fits.
And I have no bet to lay. Rendell cannot be this much of a blockhead. But RevDeb argues otherwise. I will defer to her.
I’m going to have to endure this pusbag traipsing around my state gladhanding and milking cows for the next two years.
Newt, go fuck yourself.
-G
Some fun ahead. Burris is to be on Hardball.
I wouldn’t call him a blockhead. He’s a Philly pol, no more no less. At least that’s what I’ve seen of him in the short time I’ve been here. Elliot or Millinaryman may have more to say, or Eli. They’ve been her lots longer than I.
bet that it was paid for in sheqels.
My NBA playoff debt is being paid in Shaquilles.

i was not impressed with sestak on a number of economic issues when he visited recently (single payer, wanting the fed to be the systemic risk regulator).
i could not support him as i did lamont, but other people i know have other povs.

i feel better having seen that.
Gingrich is insane.
I once visited Theresianstadt. There were people who actually ate while on tour (the old prison part). My friend and I felt like puking.
funny. lol
thanks.
oh, and attaturk, i sent your post to rachel.
the problem is that Arlen is worse. And at least Sestak tells you where he stands and votes accordingly. Arlen huffs and puffs and makes the right noises then screws you in the end.
Not my preferred way of looking forward to a race.
And for all we know, Ned would probably have let us down had he been elected.
That was yesterday … today the oddball couple of Bowies & Ted Olsen were going to file an injunction …
Here’s Sotomayor’s 2002 speech in which she makes the comment Newty Grinch is talking about and the same one Ass Limbo used to call her a racist:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05…..wanted=all
Wolfie tossing the Newt tweet at Anita Dunn [a WH communications spokesman].
Funny, Wolfie never mentions that Newt’s tweetin’ in Auschwitz. Doesn’t mention that empathy was also used talking about C. Thomas. Another day, another lousy job of research by Wolfie.
This is the last I’ve seen of it today.
Thanks Dood !
I’m hoping for A) The injunction to be granted, which will allow GLBT marriages to go on and B) SCOTUS to take this up in the fall, after Judge
MariaSonia Sotomayor has been seated.research? He does research? Coulda fooled me.
You are placing a lot of faith in a Supreme Court where the votes may not reside. At this point, I’m not sure that court is where we want this. Sonia would probably not be a divergent vote from Souter.
Actually, I have very little faith in your SCOTUS but this case is apparently being challenged in Federal Court, so it may very well end up there. What I’m hoping is that Sonia will be able to twist Kennedy’s arm much more effectively than Souter could ever do.
if i lived in PA, i’d definitely vote for sestak over specter. but i wouldn’t put my effort into the that race — it’s not like there aren’t other things for citizens to be working on. the enthusiasm just isn’t there.
but like i said, i understand that other people see the race differently than i do.
p.s. i’m sure ned would have disappointed too. but i’m already disappointed with sestak in some very big ways (fisa, war funding) and he hasn’t given me any reason to overlook those (his single payer and regulation answers in the link above were especially lame). :(
Could be. If any associate justice should be looking for a way to slide back towards the center, it would be Kennedy IMO.
The Arab World is raising the stakes in the Middle East … with the rush towards Nuclear Power – from HuffPo
In a race between him and Arlen . . . . . my contempt for Arlen is almost as deep as my contempt for LIEberman.

Honey? You’re kidding, right?
selise, what is wrong with the fed being a systemic risk regulator. Keep in mind I am not that knowledgeable on finance and I followed the links and I’m still scratching my head.
Dear Newt,
“Old racism” meant putting millions of innocent men, women and children into the gas chambers that seemed to have no effect on you. (okay, old racism/anti-semitism/homophobia/etc.)
Your “new racism” means getting told to your ugly face that ‘post-racial’ is a WASP-man’s fantasy and getting someone on the court who understands what life is really like for the 90+% of the country who weren’t born with life on a silver platter.
Pardon me if I take the latter.
Asshole.
What Newtie doing? Planning his administration?
Okay I *think* I sort of get it.
I agree with Newt though. We should definitely reflect on evil people who are abusing people in camps.
Newt ‘Protocols of the Elders of the Uighurs’ Gingrich is complaining about racism?
Newt is king of the “shit on the opponent” tactic that Republicans are so good at. Maria Sotamayor is “Only a Pawn in Their Game”
“Maria”… a little dig a huckleberry #2
Impressive headlines!
I agree with the last comment. If everyone had seen Auschwitz the world would be a better place today! Stop wars!
