Good morning Elliott and thanks for your work.
Sunday talking heads and only conservatives (or either party) need apply.
Newt Gingrich?
Newt Freaking Gingrich?
colin power’s going to be interesting, his cheif of staff has been all over the network doing his own mia culpa calling cheney and the neo cons criminals
I sure hope they ask colin about the issues wilerson brings up, torture being one of them
yea, I love to watch him tap dance
I stepped up on the platform
The man gave me the news
He said, You must be joking son
Where did you get those shoes?
Where did you get those shoes?
Well, I’ve seen ‘em on the TV, the movie show
They say the times are changing but I just don’t know
These things are gone forever
Over a long time ago, oh yeah
My only Q about Powell is how wide he’ll spread his nether cheeks for his betters. It’s his life history.
“President Obama and former Vice President Dick Cheney delivered dueling speeches this week, debating both the past and the future of America’s fight against terrorism. But as President Obama looks for middle ground, is he really charting a new course or is he advocating an approach much closer to his predecessor’s than he is willing to admit?”
David Gregory – spinmeister for the GOP!
Just more awareness in the MSM that Obama is W-lite. David Brooks was spouting that line on Charlie Rose on Friday.
Where Hillary is much more bold. Congrats to her for granting equal benefits to the partners of gay diplomats.
I liked her healthcare plan better, too.
Not too much to choose, though. I’m sick of having to choose the lesser evil.
Just more awareness in the MSM that Obama is W-lite. David Brooks was spouting that line on Charlie Rose on Friday.
Yes, and David Brooks is a Republican! The W-lite inference takes the heat off BushCo’s war crimes.
Gregory will do his best this morning to push the meme.
I think that Obama is doing all he can to take the heat off of W. That the MSM and Rs help is icing on the cake.
certainly looks that way ecahn
Sadly, I have to agree.
What nefarious plot will Pelosi Galore,
in her San Francisco lair,
hatch against America today?
good morning.
thank you for the list elliott.
BushCo apologist and all-around BS artist Frank Gafney is on Washington Journal now.
Morning all, Thanks again Elliott for the run down. Gawd am I tired of having Newt Gingrich thrust in my face – talk about a despicable character.
Rained here yesterday afternoon and through the night; nothing violent just a good rain.
Good morning, pups. It’s Kristof and Rich in the NYT today. MoDo and The Moustache of Wisdom are off. Mr. Kristof, in “The Hidden Hunger,” says the Western misconception is that severe malnutrition in the developing world is caused by lack of food, when often it’s about lack of the right micronutrients. Mr. Rich addresses “La Cage aux Democrats,” and says despite Barack Obama’s pledges as a candidate and president, his changes on civil rights aren’t coming as fast as many gay Americans would like.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles this morning. You can have warm maple syrup, or some of the wonderful fresh strawberries I got yesterday. More rain again today. While it frustrates Hoover it doesn’t seem to deter the birds. Since January we’ve gone through about 850 pounds of bird seed. Have a great day.
The Inky (Philadelphia Inquirer) has a piece on paper in their business section this morning “Read All About It…Online, For A Fee” that, curiously enough, doesn’t appear to be available online. They were probably afraid that the blogs, being of course highly interested in the business model of selling news online, might want to have an impact on the debate.
Oh, but we also saw a piece by a “Fox News Democrat,” Susan Estrich (The one who miserably failed to get Michael Dukakis into the White House against the elder George Bush), which I guess is the Inky’s answer to “too many conservatives.”
BTW, our demonstration against John Yoo’s being employed by the Inky is here.
Good Morning Elliot and firedogs,
Memorial Day Week End – did some checking and Adm Mullen and Collin Powell are the only names listed above who ever served
chris hedges has book review in today’s nyt (THE PHOTOGRAPHER: Into War-Torn Afghanistan With Doctors Without Borders by Emmanuel Guibert, Didier Lefèvre and Frédéric Lemercier):
seems appropriate to me for memorial day weekend. i can’t seem to think of the american victims of war without thinking of all the victims.
i’d rather have someone like chris hedges on the tube to speak about war (he was a war journalist for many years). or at least people who have been in war without deciding to make war making their life’s work.
yeah, i know, when pigs fly and abc has “this week with amy goodman”
Good morning everybody, mMmm waffles!
Jeez cbl, only two guests that served in the military on Memorial Day weekend?! that’s a disappointment. Was hoping there’d be a discussion today on the increase in military suicides, the impact of multiple deployments, the state of healthcare for those still active duty and also Veterans, or as selise suggests, someone who’s been there . . .
This Obama v Cheney frame is annoying to say the least.
(oo I’m starting to sound cranky and I’m not.)
Excellent demonstration against Yoo and his fellow criminals!
Good Morning Elliot and Pups.
Gregory and Brooks are for sale. I can’t believe you even listen to them.
Thanks! Glad you are out there putting the pressure on, I still can’t believe they hired Yoo
we agree. posted that thinking about all the other blowhards no doubt holding forth on the nobility of sacrifice
Hey! What a lively looking bunch of youngsters in that demo! In all seriousness, looks like a nice bunch of folks. Good on all on you. Thanks for the peek. ;->
I just think that oversimplifies the problem of the relationship between war and a democracy or republic. If you believe there would never be a need to go to war, then you can rationalize the idea that no nation needs people who know how to fight wars. On the other hand, if you think there may be circumstances when a nation must go to war, then it behooves even the most democratic of countries to have people who know how to win them. Moreover, it seems to me that growing distrust and dislike between the military and civilian populations ultimately constitutes a threat to democracy.
I just think the subject is very complex and the right answers, at any given time in history, don’t lend themselves to separation into those who love war and those who hate war. Having said that, I agree that glorification of war is a terrible thing.
loved the part about the armed guard giving the demonstrators against yoo the thumbs up with big smiles on their face
warmed my day
Giving him more rope? Doubtful. Probably just milking the controversy to run up their numbers. A lot of once proud newspapers have sagged and sold out lately. Interesting that only partial info. reaches the ‘net. Wouldn’t that mean they’re only brave enuf to preach to the choir?
indeed!
i have no idea what you are talking about. saying that the people i’d rather have on tv to talk about war today are not those who’ve decided to make war making their life’s work does not mean we don’t need people who know how to fight wars. just put someone else who’s been to war on the tv to talk about it.
ok, now i am cranky. going outside.
your link is powerful anti-cranky medicine. thank you.
I humbly apologize. I took the reference to “those who decided to make war their lifetimes’ work” to be disparaging. I had no idea you just meant for today and at other times would be pleased to listen to professional military people. I’m sorry I irritated you, but otherwise don’t care where you go.
This is my first cable TV-free weekend!!!! Yeah!!!!
So as long as I don’t have to watch the Newtster I’m glad he’s on all the time. He and Cheney and Limbaugh are the face of the New Republican Party! (And it ain’t pretty!)
Plenty of cranky to go around today. My telly stays off. I just don’t need to have Gingrich, or even Powell, in my face right now. I’ll read about it later, mebbe.
Yesterday amidst packing up some stuff, I found a treasure trove of wildflower seed that I’d collected last year and the year before. I broadcast the seed, every bit of it, in the over-grown areas edging our mowed lawn. It’s nice to see the volunteers hardy enough to drift down to the soil and sprout roots. They come up wherever they may. Sort of a flower lottery. I saved out lots of milkweed seeds to take with us when we move. The others are easier to collect, so I’ll start a-new on those.
This spring we’ve already seen mourning cloak, tiger swallowtail, some little blue fella, and a tiny, bright red edged in black, along with the honey bees, monster bumble bees, and little wolf spiders running everywhere. Soon the brood spiders will craft their nursery webs.
I don’t need grand-standing by Gingrich and Powell today. The telly stays off. ;->
Good morning for yard work. I’m with Adie, just wish I had her milkweed seeds to plant.
The flower lottery, I love that.
Yesterday we put our barbQ and several water hoses out by the road as freebees. Some nice lady stopped and came all the way up to the house to make sure we intended to part with them. We talked a little about politics and values. How much harder it is on the heart and soul for those who care about nothing and no one but themselves. No specific names were mentioned. It wasn’t necessary.
Good morning everyone.
Good morning you stragglers!
For years I had a milkweed garden, nothing more satisfying than growing Monarch Butterflies with their gold trimmed jade chryslises. What a simple joy that was. Scatter every one of those seeds Adie!
Haven’t gotten a chryslis yet but do enjoy seeing the monarchs.
Straggler.
mornin’ pups.
boxer should be interesting, she just sent out a mailer re:the blond’geist’ that shall not be googled here, c-geist said some atrocious things while spewing from the ‘baby killer’ wagon…, and targeted boxer..not a good target choice.
i’m looking forward to powell’s bus ride and seeingh ow many gop heads try to beat him to his ‘framing’…you know theyr’e gonna try!!
and last night, i was a brat–here’s why..i posted an apology in the thread=====part of my mouth is seriously burned, but i’m ok…just hope the skin under the blister grows fast..
here’s what was happening–pasted part of this in the thread this morning at 4am..
i was starving/hungry…had just taken a bite of a bacon/egg sandwich fresh out of the skillet and then ‘clicked’ and burned my mouth the worst i ever have..instantaneous, no time to spit it out…huge, deep blister 1/2″ behind my teeth..at least it’s not right on my gum line.
but it’s right where my tongue hits my palate.
i should have explained what was happening.
i ate a few bites of my sandwich and went to bed.
sorry for acting like an impatient ten year old.
Look for plants later in the year. 4-5′ tall, graceful bit tear-drop-shaped seed pods that burst open and seed that floats away, each on its own little parachute. Where there’s some, there’s usually a great plenty. I save the big plastic drinking glasses you get in a place like Panera Bread. Keep one in the car. Perfect, with the little hole in the top for a straw. Freshly released seed still clinging to the husk can just be stuffed down, opened husk and all, into the cup to finish drying. Careful where you sow it. It’s big and floppy, and sends out aggressive runners under ground when it’s well established.
Don’t forget to afix your bumper sticker: “I Brake for Milkweed” to warn the world that you’re one of those most dreaded of people on the planet, a nature lover. ;->
OUCH!
I hate burning my mouth, especially on the first bite of something I can’t wait to eat. Sorry to hear that dmac.
any new tomatoes this year?
YEOUCHH!
Would it sooth and help healing to swish very gently a mild salt/warm water mix?
It’s so beautiful how the seeds themselves are arranged inside the pod, not to mention the beautiful fluff that will send those seeds aloft
a luna moth landed on my screen the other night, right by where i sit on the computer….took pics of it..and put them on my flickr page
nature is amazing.
They’re saving the military hoopla for tomorrow, when these yellow-bellied pundits get to hang out with people who know what they’re talking about. Standing next to a real combat vet makes the likes of Gregory and Will go all shivery and shit.
Spencer’s holiday stand-in has a pretty interesting article up, for those interested:
WaPo: US pressure to freeze settlements “complicated” by Bush “secret agreement”
gorgeous!
I love your pics.
When I was a kid I thought if you saw one of the seeds floating by you could make a wish on it. As an adult I’ve come to realize that wishes are frauds but hey when you’re a kid, that’s the time to believe.
Ain’t that the truth.
.
Kristol’s on now, being all wrong some more.
Been feedin’ yerself long? *g* *ducking*
What is with this secret agreement shit. Gotta love these people who jump up and down saying they want to strictly interpret the constitution and then ignore all manner of things like the notion of treaties that are ratified by congress.
Where have all the flowers gone?
ellie. adie-thanks for the love…i was really a beatch last night when/after it happened….now you know why…i was always one of those kids who got hurt and wanted to to nurse it privately till i could stand it..heh. so, i just disappeared from the thread.
adie, that’s probably what i’m gonna do instead of brushing.afraid of breaking it..it’s deep.
thanks. well, enough of that.i’ll heal.no ezekiel raisin toast for breakfast..something cold an dmushy maybe..peaches!~!! spiced peaches, yah, that’ll do it.
That is a bummer – seems like when that happens my tongue has to explore the area making it worse. I am forever burning the roof of my mouth with pizza. You would think once is enough.
growing up, i always liked how the sun lit it up at sunset when going down the road in the car.
*s*
Dontcha worry. I’m saving out a few to take to our new abode also. If broadcasting them is not proper, I shall do it in secret. I’m a stubborn brat who never grew up, just got older somehow, heh.
P.S., for the lazy ones like me, it’s not necessary to find a source for your chrysalis. Let them come to you. Besides Monarchs, we also rather promptly got some delightful bonus critters. Milkweed Tiger Moth is a lackluster-appearing little moth that only comes out at night. The terrific thing about them is the caterpillers. Brilliant alternating stripes of orange, black and white in the form of a busy, extra fuzzy, cute lil’ rascal of a speed freak. They’re there one moment, then disappear when you run to get someone to watch them with you. Very active. Sort of the miata version of caterpillar crowd. Way cool!
that’s why i was up at 4am posting my mea culpa, i woke myself up doing that.
waht happened was, i’m doing weight watchers, and had saved myself ‘points’ for that ready to eat bacon..just threw a layer of it on the skillet while i cooked the egg and didn’t break it up-one solid slab…what i didn’t realize is, it is hotter than normal bacon because i didn’t have to drain it, didn’t have time to cool…’duh’ award.
the blister is the width of the ridge…never again, well, until th enext time.i just wanted those who were there to understand what happened..
Will do! Actually, it’s really difficult NOT to send them aloft. That’s why the suggestion to capture in the plastic container. Never saw seed that “wanted” so badly to escape. heh
Wow. What a beauty!
funny.
lmao…
laughing is one thing that doesn’t hurt…
that’s what i get for wanting that 5 piece slab of bacon..or for waiting that long to have it..
That is one dapper caterpillar!
Don’t give up on the wishing part of the deal. Isn’t that a big reason why we’re all here?
P.E.A.C.E.
thanks!
got a bigger card for my camera, so, am going to maybe post some video of the area…i like seeing what it looks like where people are from, so maybe other people do too..
a wish is an intention, and an intention is the first seed of an action, and action leads to a goal…so, wishing is not futile..
gee. i wonder where tom clancy is these days. he withered on the vine rather promptly when the terrahwah went sour, eh?!
so-o-o. be careful who you callin’ tiger! Ya never know who’s listenin’.
Seriously. Hope your little furry band of tigers are doing well. Enjoyed the pics the other day.
I gave up on him after Patriot Games. Sax Rohmer’s Fu Manchu novels were more fun.
Not a good gardening year so far. My wife helped me realize I overplanted this year, so we cut down on the number of seeds planted earlier this month. Everything came up, but then we had a fungus go through and kill all the eggplant, and most of the tomatoes and peppers. Just hoping to get what we have now big enough to transplant.
Oh! Thank you for that. Seeger’s one of the all time greats. ;->
Maste made his first sojourn into the living room and beyond yesterday evening. I was afeared he was gonna be a computer room hermit.
i remember staying up all night reading his books when they came out.
well, hungry, think they’re’s some spiced peaches in the fridge…yum.
child-proof eating.
take care..
bbl.
Biggest gardening efforts this year are concentrated on the 500+ sq ft of creeping charlie that invaded our flower bed. I little each day plus plastic along the 5′ of grass bordering the flowers should do it, eventually.
I read a lot of his stuff. He got more and more careless and glitzy, then went into co-writing those stupid-idiot-type books designed to promote video games. The one taking horrendously unfair and cheap shots at naturalists did it for me. Never read anything more. OMG he was pompous on the telly a few times around the time of “mission accomplicated”. *blech*
Hmmm, time to do laundry and eat something.
Remember, when the pundits talk about the sacrifices made by military personnel they don’t have a fuckin’ clue as to what they’re talking about.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
awwww. tell him congrats from us. a little bit at a time, and he’ll be one of the gang in a jiffy. You’re doing a good thing, Dragon. It’s not such an easy thing, convincing little or big tigers to get along together.
easier than with people though *sigh*
go enjoy those peaches. promise us you’ll see a doc or dentist if that doesn’t clear up promptly.
ahh
WHy does anyone listen to Newt Gingrich?! *pulls out hair*
and man, David Gregory is LAME.
I still love this description of him:
Jason Linkins sums up David Gregory:
OMG Ellie! Don’t make me come down there! TURN. IT. OFF! Honey.
gotta go get something done around here. can’t see over the boxes. that’s supposed to be a clue. they’re empty boxes, and the shelves are still full of…. stuff.
Peace to All.
hee hee
adios
that is one cute kitteh!
It’s my baby kitteh’;s birthday today :)
yum, oh yum, was the perfect thing, cold, feels good..i keep a can of whole spiced peaches in the fridge, ready to go, love them..they are messier than the sliced, but taste way better….now will do the salt-water you suggested to clean the syrup out, is gonna shred any second…(too much information?)….i will go to the doc or dentist if it doesn’t get better, i’m a fast healer on stuff like this so should be fine..it’s a real doozie theees time…still can’t believe it.
thanks..
keep pilin’ the stuff into the boxes, eventually you’ll be done…i’m doin’ the same, but not moving…
my ellie mae kitty says–”meow meow meow meow happy birthday to ‘ellie mae’s kitty’!!!”
(and again, to the pups, sorry about being such a reactionary beatch last evening.)
he’s a cutie!
looks like ’spock’ a friend’s cat..he’s a catnip angel now.
See also the uber Mr. Process, Chris Matthews.
Race Day!!
I’m going, I’ve decided.
Vrrrooom !
yay!!
