hi suzanne !
boing boing graceful swan dive (no splash)
g’evening pups – how’s everyone tonight?
Hey, Suz, honoring all our men and women who served wherever they were sent regardless of whatever. Those who serve/served deserve our honor and concern and ongoing care.
Hey Suzanne a hot afternoon on the lake (FDL) SD rocked fast simple and hard hitting How are you tonight?
hey teddy – how’s sf tonight?
hey dearie – how’s your part of the coast tonight?
hey bb – i’m doing fine thank you :) you row today?
And I want to honor my grandfather Christian Jacob Jensen who served in WWI after serving as a teenager in the fight against Pancho Villa. And my friend Susan’s dad Edmund Roberts who died in the Pacific in WWII. And Leroy Jason Cornwell, III, who was MIA for years after his plane crashed in Cambodia…recently properly interred. And all the other good men whom I knew or who died in VietNam, and also the ones who served honorably as my son-in-law (dad to my darling twin grandboys) did. I didn’t like that war, but I honor the men who served — and the nurses and women pilots who helped them. And I honor the men and women serving in our current debacles. May they return whole.
Hey Suzanne, Bigbrother, Dearie, and Teddy.
hey wigwam – how ya doing?
Hey Suz just back from youngest graduation from Chapman’s film school!!! What a great trip, although on Friday it took over 3 hours to get through LA to Orange city!~!! Sweetie is as high as a mom can be!! He is still looking for a job but he has a person at Nickelodeon in HR who is now helping him..
Tucker was sure glad to see Mom & Dad and sends a biscuit to Token…
PS nice dive Suz!
The central coast is beautiful, Suzanne; and I truly love to see people on the beach enjoying the beauty and power of the Pacific Ocean. Times may be tough, but the Pacific is always powerful and beautiful.
I am for grown up solutions not war… a peace force not a preemptive striking force. Violence begets violence. War is what you do when diplomacy fails. “Walk softly and carry a big stick” Teddy Roosevelt.
Memorial Day does not justify our Empire and the 300 military bases around the globe. It does not justify totrure prisons, black site and lying into murdering many thousands of people. That blood is on our flag and I am not putting my flag out until a special prosecutor is appointed to investigate war crimes and stop them.
I am up to here with the bullshit.
hey nahant – glad ya got back safe and sound. token give a woof of thanks back
Hi Suzanne and everyone ……tonight Elmore and I went out to our favorite Turkish restaurant…. had lamb kabobs, spicy coleslaw and rice ….
Ahhh finished with rice pudding …
And my Dad, Staff Sargeant U.S. Army Air Corps Joseph H. Ennis, Jr. — recipient of the Silver Star (aged 86) tail gunner, and my FIL Lawrence Edmonson, Hump Pilot China-Burma (aged 88). All my love.
Been a wild week. Lots of bad situations that seem to be turning out reasonably well. And I’m frazzled.
And I’m getting ever more pissed off at our president. Somehow I resent him more than Bush, because he visibly knows better.
Some of it is big things, like not giving those favoring single-payer healthcare a place at the table.
Som of it is seemingly small stuff like claiming that his number one duty as president is protecting the American people, which everyone knows is BigBrother’s job. ;-)
hey katy – sounds yummy – i made rice pudding last week with some leftover rice.
hey ce – how’s ohio tonight?
DING!!!
Amen. I’d be happy to read names of people we honor and care for ….Memorial Day should mean something!
is there no anthem for the national guard? i’ve not been able to pin down which memorial day concert this video is from – it was uploaded in early may 07 by pbs so i think it may be from the 06 concert. could not confirm that tho.
Beautiful today, and just now temps dropping so we “moved in” from the screened-in porch to inside. Suffering from watching “Recount” again.
The best thing — three generations of family together (not today, but yes at Christmas).
the best way to honor those currently serving is to bring them home. now. and i want the national guard brought home first – they are supposed to be serving here and not fighting in a lie based war over oil.
Well I might as well come out of the closet…I have been a peace activist since 1968…I am proud to stand for peace and human dignity. I did approve of the War of Independence. Did not approve of Indian Wars and stealing their land like Isrealis are doing to Palestinians. Most war cost more by far than they create whilst taking lives and ruining others.
I am not going into more detail…you get my drift.
Some lady called me tonight from VetsVision for money telling me about heads cut off…but she left out the part about we are occupying their country and all the killing. I checked out their web site which had nit been uodated for two year. Then I went in the kitchen and cut my finger slicing potatoes. The cut will heal. Those people who were tortured will never heal and that is cowardice…who can be proud of that. We were horrified at what the Japanese had done to their prisones of War II.
Now we are doing the same thing. Bushco and his democratic supporters have stooped to conquer and in so doing have lost the moral high ground that made our nation great…they had no right…no law…no great purpose. They suck.
it cools off here quickly once the sun goes behind the cedars. that’s my cue to start shutting the windows and doors.
Nite Suz!
g’nite ce
Hey Chris, yeah it’s nice out now.
hi to everyone. :)
hey margot – ya find any lemon balm yet?
Memorial day……. my own 85 yr old father who served as a Marine in WWII, he fought, wounded and decorated on the battle of Tarawa …… he went home on the Queen Mary hospital ship to Hawaii and to this day he hates Hawaii…. don’t know why but does…..
My mother was a WAVE in the Navy, she was a purser working on Treasure Island in SF Bay…….
My sister, ex-husband and old boyfriend all served in Vietnam……. old boyfriend never made it back alive…….
My mothers brother was in the Army Aircorp and flew over Burma as part of the supply lines…… He ended up serving also in Vietnam flying Medivac…..
Multiple cousins served in the Marines and Air Force served in Vietnam….
I hear you, bb, and I’ve supported peace since 66, so I guess I’ve got a couple of years on you. But I still honor the folks who went and did their best — tho I often wish that all the soldiers would just walk off the field, you know. They get there through draft or patriotism or misplaced patriotism or poverty .. however. Most do their best to be honorable. And I will always honor their service even if I wish they would all just gather up and say, “NO MORE”.
Evening pups.
hey busted – how is it on your side of the river?
Thanks for sharing,Katy. It makes it more real when we talk about real human beings. I honor your family’s service.
No I didn’t, I should have ordered some. There’s time yet, and it’s a very fast grower (and spreader).
It was gorgeous today but I over did it yesterday, been laying in bed almost all day with a sore back.
I did get out and water the garden and changed the starter in that POS Sprite, again.
Now I gotta fix the lights, again, it’s always AGAIN with that damn thing.
It did start right up though, that’s a plus.
tomorrow i’m gonna head over to the waterfall farms edible landscaping nursery. no more procrastinating about it.
Amen, Sistah . . . . spot on.
starting up is good busted – i am gonna want ya to remember what you told me when i overdid it. are ya following your own advice?
hey larue – how’s sac tonight?
You got an Austin Healey Sprite??
Hmm, , seems to have gotten quite a few panties in a twist. I see North Korea may have detonated a nuclear device
Love rice pudding – it’s a cardamom delivery vehicle!
Yer runnin a Triumph Sprite?
Oh, was it Austin Healey who made that bugger, as someone above noted?
Bug Eyed Sprite?
Lil 4 banger two seater?
Twin SU carbs?
Ragtop? 4 gears and either Lucas or Bates electrics?
Damn, my heart out to ya. Worst electrics evah. *G*
It was around 1966 that my father turned against the Vietnam war…… He was working for the US ARMY at Hunter Legget base. They had an outbreak of Plague due to fleas on squirles and deer. The hired my father who was a Wildlife Biologist….. According to Dad…. he would meet some of the kids, bring them home for some home cooking and a few months he would hear they had been killed….. He said that their bootcamp training was piss poor.
You have to understand that my father was the last 6 month Marine bootcamp group and what he saw was the spin dry type training….. We marched against the war together….
1964 same exact car as an MG Midget. The first year with roll up windows.
And build some decent housing for them. Provide therapy to help them heal from the trauma they sufferred. And get jobs for them and their families. No more bridges and tent cities. Obama said this week at the Naval Academy I will not send you in harms way ill eqiped”. (no body armour)
How about I will not send you in harms way period. We are not to be occupiers, but defenders of our land. The rest is empire building.
You bet there were heros. millions that sacrificed for the greater good. But for crying out loud take the moat out of your own eye before you take the splinter out of your brothers eye…if you get Jesus advice.
If we are so damn moral and righteous why is 20% of Americans living in poverty without healthcare? School age kids sleeping in cars!
Why are 45 million people in one African country suffering from malnutrion reported in the NYT today. Why can’t poor people have birth control? SO many of our people have to go to Mexico or Canada to get life saving medicine. The list is huge..noone is righteous. My uncles and cousins did not return…that should not have happebed to a vigilant nation. There is a lot of reason for war happening but their no joy. The history of war is strewn with victims. Namaste
it seems to be what they do on our holidays – try to blow up something or fire off a missle.
bb – you got the makings of a fine ox diary there. ya should write it up.
Great day today, cooler temps in mid 80’s, delta breezes in play, and cool nights for sleeping.
So far.,
Normally, we is up in THIS place for Memorial Day:
http://www.strawberrymusicfest.com
But we couldnt’ go this one. And I’m suffering for it . . .
But weather wise, this is grand here in Sacto . . . . . all the garden stuff loves it.
I got a dig camera, I should shoot what we got and send it to ya . . . small jpg files.
Try and do that tomorrow . . .*G*
This was laced with cinnamon …..
My dad had one. Lovely little car, he bought it in the early 70s for $200. The car lot guy said he wasn’t real sure about it. “Will it make it off the lot?” Used car guy: “I think so.”
So he drove it for the next 15 years.
sweet – look forward to seeing them larue. i figured out how to take pictures of birds at my bird feeder – today i took a pic of an american goldfinch.
I been checkin in at yer place, fine, fine pics . . . paradise it looks like. *G*
My dad raced a Bug eye in the early sixties.
He and my mom would go on car ralley’s too and stick me in my baby seat in between the seats and take off.
I guess I was born with it.
katy, i made a bread pudding this past week – used stale raisin bread, and instead of 1/2 c raisins, added in 2c blueberries and some lemon zest. yummy yummy
i’m starting to bake again. haven’t done so in a long time and it feels good. one of these days, i’m gonna buy that fancy red kitchenaid mixmaster and really start baking.
Nothing wrong with cinnamon *g*
cinnamon is helpful in keeping blood sugar down. my mom was considered pre-diabetic and started mixing 1t of cinnamon into her plain yogurt every morning – she no longer needs to monitor her blood sugar.
Busted I had a 65 Sprite! IIRC the last year Austin Healy made them…. loved that car, was thinking about driving it when going over Pacheco pass today on the way home!!
JEALOUS!!!! I am!!
Heading out to bed…… End of the steroids…. now I need to build up my strength…. weak as a kitten….
Ya know…. it was wonderful seeing comments to me when I was a basket case….. everyone’s support during these last two years have been outstanding and heartwarming
Thank you…. just plain thank you….
Ok, Healey . . .

I’ve forgotten too much . . . I DO recall the A/H inline 6, which was a GREAT roadster.
And the Bug Eyed Sprite reminds me of the later Datsun 1600 Roadster. As a 4 cyl it was a fun drive as a roomie had one. But the real thrill was it’s big bro the Datsun 2000 Roadster. Sadly, it was full of head problems, cooling issues, and suspension problems (a roomie had one of THOSE, too).
I got to watch two roomies mess with them Datsun’s for a year or so each. When they ran, and were up to top shelf, they were FUN, fun vehicles.
Never sat in a Triumph, or Healy. Although, I had a couple of Brit bikes. THEY were challenges in them days to keep running, electrics wise, and engine wise. But when they ran, they were fun, *G*
Always wanted a 850 Kit ‘72 Norton Commando . . .*G* Never had one.
g’nite katymine (((katy and elmore))) still thinking those thoughts
I always feel conflicted on memorial Day Bushco did that..not the Fourth of July though that is a celebration on my calendar. Some of the nicest people I have known were vets its the politicians. I am sad for everyone who died and their friends and families. War is not the answer. Mourning the fallen is more appropriate. Sorry I went to get out my flag but I couldn’t find it.
All of the people we have hurt how do they feel? Are we not the Family of Man human rights equal right…goodness and fair play the American way?
Have we not lost our way…I am not a sheep.
1970 was the last year but the last good ones were in 68.
I have a 1275 cc engine out of one I bored out, the damn little things are basically a street legal Go Kart.
Fun.
Deceptively quick too.
Gnite katymine.
Take care.
Me too….. I cranked up the Kitchenaid and the damn thing screamed until it finally had the lub distribute…… Here I am with enough kitchen toys…… bread maker, pasta machine, then the pasta roller & cutter….. They are all out in the garage in a big cabinet…… now that I will be off and on disability….. I can get back to all those things I did years ago…….
You betcha!! It also cornered almost as good as my 51 Porsche I had while serving on Germany in the late 60’s….
Suz, LOML gave me a kitchenaid from Williams-Sonoma. He’d watched me shopping outlets for em forever. Paid way too much, but he loved W-S, the girls there fed and pampered him.
Not red but if I succumb to my effed-up finger, its yours.
hey sunny – ice ice and ice. i’m almost at the point of getting one at fred meyer – that have them for $299 – gotta start checking them out and seeing what it comes with and what gadgets are available etc. i keep having to remind myself that now is my someday.
I believe I am going to retire for the evening, I just wanted to stop in and say howdy.
Y’all have a nice evening.
g’thud busted and enjoy your holiday tomorrow.
You and Elvis and a few others huh. There was a big hole in the blogs while you were gone good to have you back and thank you very much for the Pakistam cartoon… “…can you drive a truck”. Nothing like sick humor. The depression cartoon was soo funny…where did you get it.
Nite Busted (:>)) You take care and sleep well my friend!… Still jealous you have a Sprite and I don’t..
I am outa here also, lots’a of driving in the last few days … Nite Pups sleep well when ya get there..
katy, we knew you were there thanks to ((Elmore)).
g’nite nahant – glad your trip went well
Hugs Katy, have a great sleep and keep eating!
anyone have any plans for tomorrow?
Love mine. Raised bowl, not lift top. Fits under the cabinets. Dunno if anyone does deals on second bowls, that would be my choice.
Now is the time. If he hadn’t just done it, I’d still be shopping :-)
why do you like the raised bowl version sunny? i’ve always used a raised arm mixer.
All the figures of authority were characterized by Jean Genet and their rituals of power. I believe Memorial Day is one of those rituals. Jean Paul Sartre was one of his mentors. Genet lived into 1986 past George Orwell died 1950 who wrote about a totalitarian society.
We gave seen 8 years of it as the rule of law war perempted by political powers for special interests.
It is deeply distrubing that Obama seems to be following a similar path and calling it “change”.
Yes a friend who has a local coffee shop returned a favor and gave me a bunch of cosmos seeds. I planted them today and plan to watch them grow rommorow after I sleep in and go for a row. Some jogging added too. Enjoy June gloom. And of course beathe a lot.
How about you going shopping for plants?
yup – tomorrow is plant shopping day. gonna pick up a couple of planter boxes and see what is at my local nursery specializing in edible landscaping.
The froth is frothy this week!
hey that guy – charlie daniels (shrudder) that dood sure went off the deep end – used to love his music back in the day
Suze, I did, too. He used to be cool. Then he got Jesus and he was no longer the Long-Haired Country Boy.” He changed the words to the damn song.
He is a real 21 percenter, though.
Takes up less counter-top real estate. Heavy suckers and you don’t have to move them around. YMMV. Folks on rec.food.cooking, were big on them, which I found persuasive. But may be more $$$.
i think it is going to come down to what attachments are available for what kind. i want to make sure i get the one that has the most toys i want.
yum – tomorrow is plant shopping day. gonna pick up a couple of planter boxes and see what is at my local nursery specializing in edible landscaping.
Fixed it for you…
As an ape-man vegetation is very sustaining for me a hominid and and becoming a vegetarian spuds, chard and leafy greens, rice cream, brocolli, cauliflower, peas, Oregon whatchamacallits. all peppers, spices, noodles, pasta, wheat flower, seeds so much more… an adventure in sustainable living. No more lipstick on a pig por moi
that was a dayam fine song – that and uneasy rider.
chard is on my list – gonna see what they offer since they are local.
Growing your own is green living. I am not a holy roller but Jesus had some great idea. Stop the karma…no eye for an eye anymore….very smart dtop the cycle of violence. The new testament is chock full of great advise. If someone wants your coat give them the hat too or something like that. I do not see all the Christian right doing anything like what I read.
You are going to have a great day tommorow…hope you have good well drained soils. Get a box of Dr. Earth it has mychorhizaes that feed the roots of the plants by forming a fungus that breaks down the nutrients in the soil for the root to absorb. The good stuff and a little dog pee will help things right along. G)
(laughing) token’s a little too short to aim inside the planter boxes i wanna get. i’m gonna see what they have at the organic nursery and what they recommend. i figure they know all the ends and outs of plants up here – and should have planting mix and everything for me to have some nice edible eye candy plants.
Makes sense to me. If they’ve now got a whisk that can go into the dishwasher, go for it..
Oregon is a one crop climate unless you start em in doors and do like Teller and grow indoors. Vertical gardens make it tougher for the racoons although they can be great entertainment as they demonstrate their gymnastic skills.
My garden is mostly pest free do to physical barriers. Diatomacious earth sprinkled around the pot will disuade them. It is your very own micro eco system. Bon Sois.
good to know to look for that. thanks sunny :) i’m sure when i do get her, i’ll post it over at my place. call her baby and everything (laughing) no upper cabinets on two walls due to windows so i’ve got the perfect place for her.
nite all…
Thanks for the hospitality suz.
we get elk around here besides the racoons. the occasional black bear. i figure having the garden up on the deck helps with the up and down stairs issue for me and cuts down on the critters that can gain access to it.
g’nite sunny
well pups, time for me to head out. g’nite all and thank you for letting me spend some time with you tonight.
300 bases? Which ones should we reduce or close?
I walked through a part of my city’s park which runs along a road where there is a WWI memorial. My father’s father was in that war. He sometimes had to fight hand to hand in the Ardennes. When I knew him he was kind and gentle, but my father told me that after the war for some time he was out of control and very dangerous. Fortunately his home was way out in a holler (in WV). It’s hard for me to imagine him as a young man fighting, and cooking on the battlefield.
I think of him every time I walk that way, not just on Memorial Day.
