Dick Cheney, last week:
This recruitment-tool theory has become something of a mantra lately, including from the president himself. And after a familiar fashion, it excuses the violent and blames America for the evil that others do. It’s another version of that same old refrain from the left, "We brought it on ourselves."
Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and notorious Blame-America-First Leftist, this morning.
Mullen dismissed criticism by former Vice President Dick Cheney this week against the president’s argument that Guantanamo Bay has served as an effective recruiting tool for al Qaeda.
"The concern I’ve had about Guantanamo in these wars is it has been a symbol, and one which has been a recruiting symbol for those extremists and jihadists who would fight us. So and I think that centers — you know, that’s the heart of the concern for Guantanamo’s continued existence, in which I spoke to a few years ago, the need to close it," Mullen said.
Hasn’t Mullen heard? They hate us because we’re free.
Just ask Mitt Romney.

Good morning BT!
Ah you know, Mullen, one of the crazies.
Mullen will now be waterboarded by Liz Cheney.
When it comes to military strategy and enemy recruitment, I’m much more apt to listen to a Yale dropout with multiple deferments than a Naval Academy graduate who’s actually, you know, made war.
We need to remember that Liz Cheney has been protecting her Daddy since she was pre-born: she was his last deferment while still in Lynne’s womb!
That’s true, isn’t it.
I thought only Tasmanian Devils procreated as a defense mechanism… I learn something new every day.
Bush-brain was tryin to close Gitmo toward the end himself…This is a bullshit issue.
Goopers doing a rather remarkable job of bottom feeding here. They normally go after people who don’t mind a lie- now they are going after those who absolutely DEMAND it.
Nice fishin Cheney!
You’ve really hit on something here, rw. The steadily contracting GOP base demands untruths about the economy, foreign affairs, and social issues. As long as there are GOP politicians who speak to them, making them increasingly isolated from the rest of America, those GOP politicians will succeed in their contracting niches. But America will literally pass them by.
OT Teddy http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05…..4rich.html equal rights have not been achieved yet US Constitution is for all Americans.
Torture facilities are not constitutional either. Is Obama going to keep wearing his flip flops at the white house.
Good day all and happy memorial day. Lotsa good post today I’ll be back.
clearly admiral mullen is in league with the terrorist or at any rate subconsciously holds sympathies with them. either or, this man cannot and should not be trusted. i mean where does he come off contradicting the oracle himself – did not dick tell us all we needed to know regarding guantanamo.
not to speak of the false discussion this entire piece fails to realise, save in the last words – they hate us not because of guantanamo, not because we tortured them, not because we invaded their country for oil and to settle old scores but because of our freedom. think about that – these people woke up one day, clearly after a hearty breakfast (am guessing they had camel kabob with goat milk. well after wards they thought to themselves, hmmmm…., those darn americans and their fancy freedom, dont you just hate them. so they respect our culture, their president never invades another country just for sport, never imprisons men because he has a bad feeling about them, never tortures but they have this freedom thing.
i think, i hate them for that. so it all started, you see, after a breakfast of camel kabob with goat milk – next thing we know they hate us because we are free. i wonder what they shall come up with next – lord save us
terraists under your bed ?? who ya gonna call .. the chickenhawk with five deferments ..or the admiral ..with a navy .. ??
The audience for this bullshit is stereotypically white, male, southern, and uneducated. They are continuously pissed off because, well just because, and they believe that most people hate em and would like to kick the holy living shit out of them…
Their taste in political rhetoric is primarily aesthetic- it needs to be loud, violent, and mean…it must embrace the reality that unless you get someone to kick the holy living shit out of the “others” they will come and kick the holy living shit out of you….Any message that doesn’t meet that critereon will not be listened to.
That’s funny.
Hence the tone of talk radio.
