Suz! Toons!
Hey Suz! Old Donald!
Donald!
newt!
boing boing – flying forward one-and-a-half somersaults, pike position, no splash (except for, of course, the bulgarian judge)
g’evening pups – how’s everyong doing tonight?
hey neuro
hey newt
neuro!
Brava dive Suz.
And Donald’s kind of a prick in this one (which is what I get for buying into the premise of a Donald Duck cartoon).
John Prine plays Halifax in August, and once again I’ll probably miss him.
hey – dang, i’m gonna miss that too. love prine’s music.
anyone have any plans for this holiday weekend?
Same here.
Hey Suz, Newton, Neuro, Mr. Why.
hey margot

Suz, Donald, Newt, Neuro, Mr Why and Margot!!!!!
hey sunny
Donald is here in spirit, and he’s being a bit chippy tonight
hi sunny
hi Sunny;)
I have no plans for the holiday weekend. Now in February, reading plant and seed catalogs, then I had plans, you betcha. Maybe I’ll make a run to Kmart for some plants.
Suzanne (nice dive)
Great animation, as always from the Disney studios.
Every frame drawn by hand. usually 12 frames per second, doubled (each frame played twice) to 24 fps for film.
Compare this with the computer generated, technically brilliant, but artificial, lifeless animation produced today.
No comparison.
I hope this wheel will turn back to real artists doing the hard work to produce art.
I’m relating this to the previous “American Idol” post about mediocre talent being promoted to the highest level of recognition.
In the music biz, we went through a period (1983-1993) where everybody thought drum machines were great.
Then everybody realized that there was no substitute for a real drummer.
I really hope that someday soon we’ll see a a similar renaissance in animation.
Anybody seen any good hand drawn animation lately? (of course it would now be realized digitally, no problem with that)
I’d love to see it.
me too margot… i had plans but – maybe i’ll head to the fred meyer after the holiday weekend is over. tis tourist season opener this weekend and i heard it was packed today.
hey foxman – i love the old handdrawn cartoons myself.
hi Suze & Firepups!
this weekend is devoted to gardening. Here in the frigid Upper Midwest, Memorial Day weekend is the traditional time to plant gardens. Usually danger of blizzards is past by then *g* I’m helping Baby Brother with his 32′ x 75′ garden plot … yesterday we planted 30 heirloom tomatoes (3 different varieties that he started from seed weeks ago), and today it was 3 varieties of heirloom sweet corn, buttercup and other squashes, pole beans, cukes, and moon & stars watermelons. And then tomorrow ….
hey ndfg
there is this nursery on the south side of town i bet the tourists don’t know about – it specializes in edible landscaping. i want to check their plants out.
yeah,
a lot of loving attention to detail.
and it started with the storyboard and music/sfx track, so all the timing was perfect.
maybe someday the kids we learn these skills.
double crap – forgot the link
Suze, that nursery sounds awesome. I love scented geraniums.
i think the mid 60’s are the most recent era i’ve featured on sat nite toons. i like the classics – the character development, the fact they appealed to both adults and kids on completely different levels – there is a lot to like about the classic cartoons.
i’ve got to get 3 – lost 3 of them due to snow on the decks this winter. can’t wait to go through their selection and replace my landlord’s plants. and get some of my own.
Speaking of edibles, I’m looking for some lemon balm.
A very nice neighbor killed mine off a few years ago and I haven’t found any yet locally. That bush was as big around as a Christmas tree and he thought it was a weed and whacked it for me.
A leaf or two is great in tea.
oh double crap margot – it is not a locally available plant?
i wanna see what kind of herbs they have. i wanna start a kitchen herb garden in some pots on both decks.
OT: but if any of you love old travel trailers as much as I do, I want to share a site I found through Sunsent Magazine: sistersonthefly.com. There are, god love ‘em, over 1000 women fly fishers, some of whom also have old trailers that they take on trips. There are 35 or so pages of the most wonderful old trailers. I swooned….
PS: love that you are diving again, Suzanne!
hey dearie – my sister in tuscon sent me something about a woman’s group that all use those old trailers and go fishing/camping in mass. that link sure looks like it is the same group.
thanks dearie – memorial day weekend is the offical kickoff for summer.
AYE!
That’s a lotta tomatoes!
Good on ya Hon’ and say Hi to da Spook.
Great pick fer the cartoon tonight Suzanne, I can’t believe it but I don’t remember ever seeing that one before, stupid duck.
My money was on the squirrel from the get go.
thanks busted – peanuts in the park made me think of summertime.
how’s it on your side of the river?
Murakami has set up his own film company in Hollywood. His museum exhibits are top-drawer, if you like this sort of thing. Commercial in a Warhol kind of way.
http://www.viewonfashion.com/a…..IS-VUITTON
err, hadn’t you heard the news? Spook was a con artist and skeddadled with $$$ from a bunch of folks, including me beginning of december.
I thought maybe you would have a Tex Avery toon after the link I sent ya.
hey emerson
wow that was a sudden nap…. just went out like a light sitting on the sofa….
twas a great link busted – am doing research on which tex toon to do next.
hey katy – i think that means it is time for you to head to bed.
FUCK!
Sorry baby, hadn’t heard that bit of sad news.
Dammit.
Oh no ….. that plain sucks…..
you deserve it k
(((NDF))))
But but but…. I haven’t had my chocolate ice cream yet……
well grab that carton and start eating katy (hands on hips)
well, we didn’t want to gossip too much online, but i’ve told people the crazy, and i mean CRAZY, details via facebook and email. Next time ya meet up with Suze, she has my permission to tell you the story.
Don’t forget the sprinkles!
Elmore spoiled be again and got me a nice bowl of ice cream
will do ndfg
Hi Suz- never saw that toon. Ornery duck.
I quit Facebook a long time ago, so sorry honey, yer such a nice lady.
I am kind of crushed.
I was so happy for you.
I don’t want to tear the scab off of a fresh wound, just know that I feel terrible that this happened.
Have another hug.
yay elmore
Another OT, but I just spent hours watching my favorite — Most Dangerous Catch — and I’m kind of sea sick….
If you haven’t planned to do any real memorial stuff regarding Memorial Day, may I recommend that you go to bobedwardsradio.com and seek out Stories from Third Med, and hit ‘listen here” and you can hear from doctors who worked in VietNam and you can recall how awful it was and how heroic those doctors and our men were. I want to honor Leroy Jason Cornwell, III, and Murmie Graham”s fiancee, and my college’s student body president, and all of the young men who died……..and my former boss Gordon Roberts, youngest living Congressional Medal of Honor winner (still) and all those others, like my son-in-law, who actually made it back alive. And, also, my friend Susan’s dad, Edmund Roberts who lost his life in WWII (at least with a real meaning.) Take a moment and think about the young men and women who served our country…..even when our country didn’t always serve them.
it pissed me off royal, how dare he scam my friends! grrrrr. But if i hadn’t met up with him, i wouldn’t have gone to texas & met texbetsy, gnome, wangdang, & greenwarrior and all the great folks i met at netroots. And i wouldn’t have found out my thyroid levels were dangerously low. So a lot of good came out of the whole deal.
life’s been busy, and my work schedule interferes with thread time, but i do read ‘em after i get home, and i have been sending you lots of love ‘n light. I’ve been so pleased to see you back on line! {{{ katy! }}}
donald is the antithesis of m i c (see ya real soon) k e y
i think donald is in touch with his inner brat
thats a great site dearie – thanks
don’t worry about it! It’s not much of a wound. He was just a minor pimple on the butt of life. But it was pretty entertaining for a while.
Glad that you can laugh about it and there was some good…… Out of lemons….
hahaha
That phrase has kind of a Rhett Butler ring to it.
“Frankly, my dear…”
Well, at my age, I finally got one of those damn hemorrhoid things and I named it after my daughter, little pain in the ass, I love her with all my heart, just a suggestion.
I’m out.

May I take an informal poll?
Who uses Firefox 3 and likes it? I’m trying to decide if I should download it yet.
i use ff 3.0.10 for pc and like it
Nice dive!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Suzanne.
when i use my daughter’s pc i use it, it’s way better than ie. But on my mac i stick to safari.
thanks teddy – you and patrick have plans for the holiday?
yesterday – i’m in wait and see mode.
not pretty, but not wildly painful.
Hi Margot. My brother has it and likes it. I use safari on this mac.
ice and elevation are your best friends. i always found that getting the swelling down helped reduce pain to discomfort.
Good evening
Good things have been happening to me…free steam cleaning of carpets and repair ($180.00 worth)paid by property management
Puter not getting on internet this week…staples repaired for free (downloaded drivers after two free tech visits from Charter)
Feeling very relaxed lately
hey emerson – your sister give ya a report on that dead/allman/doobie concert ya had to miss?
woohoo – that is wonderful bb. do good and good things happen (as that fella earl says on the teevee).

Katymine’s recovery is the cheeriest news.
he’s working all weekend, and i’m just hangin out.
it’s nice to be home after more than two weeks away.
and, of course, waiting for Decision Day from the SCOCA on Tuesday.
No, i saw her Thurs nite, but it was at a recital and didn’t get the chance. I’ll see her tomorrow since she’s throwing the party in Napa. BBQ, a pool, booze, family and friends. We make my Dad tell WWII stories. There’s always one even my mom hasn’t heard.
The hard cores will still be partying at 3 am.
isn’t it wonderful news. makes me smile just thinking about it.
yep.. lotsa ice.
‘preciate the kind words.

i don’t do patience well teddy. gotta be rough on you waiting to find out if you can finally get married.
Yves over at Naked Capitalism has a link to an econ discussion with Roubini, Krugman, Soros and others…really informational…We all need to prepare to hang in there baby for the next few years.
G”evening. kind of cool that the cartoon you chose is 1954, Suzanne.
I’m celebrating my 55 birthday this weekend. Already warned the family that when I”m on the highway and pass a sign that says 55 I’m yelling ” FUCKIN” A” and pumping my fist.
give your dad a thank you for his service from me emerson.
memorial day seems to be the day i miss my dad the most. retired cook in the navy who served in ww2, korea and the start of viet nam. been gone for 7 years now.

I am celebrating peace within…I wear my cap with a peace symbol everyday. More peace signs around all the time.
Wars do not come about by accident. Consideration of others, bridling greed instead of feeding it and a general concern for all critters makes for a more peaceful time. War is not the solution…it is the failure of societies to get along.
Thank you. Tres cool!..
I promise I will do that, Suz and thank you. Funny thing is my dad never talks about anyone getting hurt or dying. It’s always about being with his friends.
Sorry about your dad.Sounds like a great, gregarious type. Tell me his name and he’ll hear our toast tomorrow. (They always do.)
ok to email it to ya emerson?
I had another nice piece of good fortune as I was trailed by a CHP on the highway home for a while. I guess he was running my plates which are clean. He/she turned around after a few miles. Nice.
the freeway blogger is still out and about. those could be his signs you are seeing
Happy Birthday Open Hope many happy healthy returns
bb – i was about 2 blocks away from the oregon dmv when a tillamook pd officer pulled in behind me. my tabs were expired and i was sure i was gonna get pulled over. he saw me turn into the odot lot and kept going.
i gotta tell ya, i still pucker when a cop gets behind me.
Sure. It’s capra3919at XXX .com
Movies of Frank Capra should be a required course for all Americans.

“Live in Peace” http://www.liveinpeace.ws/
About LIVE IN PEACE®
Our Vision is to share LIVE IN PEACE® with everybody, everywhere and help create a Positive Shift in the World! We feel that the more our positive message gets out, the sooner we can all realize the benefits of this shift … so we are doing our best by simply getting LIVE IN PEACE® in front of as many people as possible.
In my view the best way to memorialise the life sacrifices of warriors is to keep them out of harms way.
Live in Peace is a business that sells decala for the rear car window or clothing etc. i put the decal on my caps and wear it most every day.
What could be more patriotic than “keeping the peace”.
As a peace officer you must a a great deal of respect for peacemakers.
i did and i still do bb. in fact, i used to belong to a quilting guild called the piecemakers – a play on words.
Hope I did not violate a FDL code with that quote from the peace link
I’m sorry this memorial hits you hard. It doesn’t make it easier when the promise of a summer to come coincides with the ache of loss.
I asked my dad to come over and help me string a fence for the chickens this afternoon.. 20 minutes into the project I suddenly realized he’s 83 yrs old, the sun’s blazing, the earth’s rock hard…… maybe it’s time to scale down the “project”. Ain’t none of us young chickens anymore.
And then I thought, well, maybe these are the projects that keep a person strong. Maybe we should encourage more 80 somethings to get off their ass and dig out a 9 foot trench, set posts, pull wire and back fill. !!?!
i think its ok bb – we tend to evoke fair use – which is usually understood to be 250 words – but that is mainly news articles and other blog posts.
what you quoted was not too long for what it was.
thanks. my mom and stepdad just picked up and moved from palm springs area to the phoenix az area. my mom is 75 and my stepdad is in his 80’s – my sister is helping them out with all the stuff that has to be dealt with when ya just moved into a new home. doing all the store runs (light bulbs) and helping hang pictures (to keep them off ladders).
With not access to WWW this week I got a lot of reading done in “Conspiracy of Fools” the Enron collapse which was a boilerplate for the global financial meltdown of Q4 2008. 700 pages 100 left, ready to move on…learned a lot on how to cheat the investor and the government.
aint it an amazing feeling when ya see your parents aging. my kids birthdays make me feel old – until i look at my mom – she is thinking about retiring (as my stepdad wants) but… i’m like dang it mom, you are 75 i think its ok to retire – but she is a child of the depression and worries.
didja get a lot of rowing in also?
Thank you, bigbrother!
Yes and tommorow looks good for a nice hearty row, An 85 man stopped to chat when I landed said he started rowing in 1948…still rows twice a week. Nice.
One AM…better say good night.
g’nite bb
Interesting about peace officers…without a good force Iraq may have a tough time and end up with another dictatorship.
g’nite pups. Have a wonderful Memorial Day and remember the heroes.
g’nite emerson
time for me to head out myself. g’nite pups and thank you for letting me spend part of tonight with you.
The other untalked about side of retirement is the loss of individuality. All the sudden you are in the house 24/7 with your spouse. A major adjustment.
I think that if a person likes their job and the structure it gives their lives, they should keep it.
If they don’t like their job and can retire, they should do that. I hate to sound completely pessimistic, but I don’t think the average American citizen can work their way to financial security anymore. That dream has been robbed. So, without the future to work towards we are in a new actual-reality of the concept ” Be here now”.
G’night. Sounds like a plan.
Thank you, Suzanne.
Good morning if anyone’s up.
you still here?….
