The state’s Democratic senators went ballistic. Mr. Blow talks about “The Land That Republicans Forgot,” and says the leadership of the Republican Party in the Northeast has systematically shed its idealists in favor of ideologues, reducing itself to the Cheney-Limbaugh illusionati. Mr. Herbert, in “The Absence of Proof,” says it’s bad enough people are executed in the United States. But it’s absolutely chilling that Troy Davis is on death row when there is doubt that he committed murder.
