Is that like a half Fitz, Teddy? /s
ES!
Wow, it looks like KQED interrupted the introduction to Bill Moyers big single-payer program, and now can’t decide what to show. “Technical difficulties,” they say — after several tries at showing different introductions to programs about the war.
Ah, back on now.
Hi neuro, happy extended weekend.
going Saturday to look at an iris garden with 700 varieties
Where? Sounds pretty!
Just a little frist-y.
I have shades/colors of Iris blooms I have never seen before. Same old beds.. I guess they decided to bloom this year for the first time since I bought the place.
Hey, ES! Pups!
Happy Late Late Friday night!
Funny Wheelie Diva
Hi Funny Wheelin’ Diva.. What’s blooming in your neck of the woods, Rhododendrons?
The GOP is getting emotional Dionysian not happy wine god drunk more the bachaneral? mad frenzy in the Sandman graphic novel abou eaters of flesh mad.
Imagine the party of CONSERVEitives of Morality of Family values, of Rules of Tradition etc is now hooked on working themselves up into a Fury over whatever the cause de jour of the day is whether its true or not does not seem to worry Malkin, Coulter, Beck Rush, etc
They are acting like parents any parent will if pushed too lie cheat or steal to help their kids.
The problem is the threshold for this behaviour is lowered to the point where there is no threat rather the need to get angry.
Think of the Little league dad or stage Mom who justifies bad behaviour as doing it for their kids. When in fact they are doing it for themselves.
They are doing it to live their dreams through their kids.
In the GOP’s case they see themselves as protecting America their families etc from US. They think that we despite whatever we say are the threat (because we lie).
They have stopped listening to reason. They have become the wide eyed radicals that they accused us of being in the 60’s.
Like us in the 60’s they are alienating moderates like us in the 60’s they are losing faith in the system they are likely to stop voting if they can’t stop Obama next election.
The more extereme elements will try and overthrow the system.
I suspect that this will not replay like the 60’s like the GOP hopes only they hope do hope they can take over.
Instead ask yourself what happened to the German American bund and the Eugenics Movement in America after Rooseveldt won a few times.
We Lefty Loons are becoming the sane sober, informed party. We are trianglating the GOP out of their old brand name. And we are doing it with Facts instead of Reagan PR the press never to my knowledge ever looked at Reagan’s Caddy Driving Welfare Queen story.
Why this change? It certainly was nothing the Triangliating Democrats did with their Press strategy.
Instead Bush pushed the American system Militarily, Economically, Foreign policy etc to the limit and it failed.
We won WW2 in less time and with our allies got Hitler. Under Bush Ossama is still around.
Under FDR we put America back to work.
Under Bush the banks need a Bailout. Bush the First Harvard MBA President just replayed Herbert Hoover the American people now suddenly want healthcare coincidence I think not.
GOP is reacting emotional we are acting logical.
Ay-up. Rhodies. Lilacs are done. Cherry trees finishing up. Dogwoods look good. It’s been a hell of a year for pollen so far. Just glad I don’t suffer from it much. Saw some big, orange poppies in a west-facing yard today.
I think the tulips are done.
Funny Wheelie Diva
They have stopped listening to reason.
I am not at all certain they ever learned how.
I love Gail Collins.
Calling the politicians afraid of GTMO detainees in our prisons chickenshit.
They had the popular myth that they were logical before that helped them.
I’m pointing out that is changing I agree they never listened before but with the myth of logic they did not need it.
The emotional response shows desperation and as long as the average American does not share that belief then we get the logic sane CONSERVATIVE vote.
They get stuck with Hate and end of the world types.
Granted end of the world types who think Crucification is ok if its brown people.
Anyone not brainwashed into the Far Reich got REALLY scared when they saw the face of fascism in the neo conmen. That’s what brought the “moderates’ over. That and the banksters heist, which was really just a part of Cheney’s looting of America.
Meridan KS
Milk is a gateway drug to bourbon. Yeehaw!
Yes.
;>)
End result assuming Obama wins again the 20%ers will lose hope and stop voting or vote our way in 12 years.
Assume we get 5% of the hard core GOP and the GOP’s best numbers now of 30% becomes -5% voting our way and -10% of GOPers not voting because they gave up on the system.
However the Sarah voters are the most likely to lose hope so I expect the GOP to move to the sane middle then.
That will give us problems.
Third interruption in 40 minutes of KQED’s Bill Moyers’ telecast. Very suspicious, considering how much Kaiser and BCBS support KQED gets.
Ted whats bill talking about?
“Bout time.. I’ve been saying it forever.
The Moyers VodCast is up, in two parts. The health care segment is working and the Memorial Day segment isn’t.
And hey ES
You do realize that we will be the Conservative party in 12 years. I won’t be a Rebel anymore :(
Back in 10
Really weird.
Me too. Every prison warden in a supermax who can’t handle GTMO detainees needs to raise their hand.
I’m trying to decide if this is kabuki or a sincere effort on two fronts.
To make the phrase “public plan” mean we can buy into a social/not private plan?
And beyond wording, will they demand it happen in the final bill?
Kennedy affirms support for public healthcare plan
Liberals pushing for the creation of a federally run health insurance plan won a major victory Thursday when Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) strongly indicated his commitment to the policy, one of the most controversial elements of healthcare reform.
Kennedy has co-sponsored a resolution introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown (Ohio) and 26 other Democratic senators that declares the healthcare reform legislation the Senate will consider this summer must include a public plan option people can choose instead of private insurance. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) also co-sponsored the resolution.
Though purely symbolic, this show of strength by 28 Democratic senators
Cool. Then we can oppress the Left and start a whole new class struggle, comrade.
;>)
Hey newtonusr..) Can’t wait to watch Moyers in a little while.
db!
I attended a High school near a prison… same school as my father and his mother.
In their days a prison break meant school let out. By my generation that no longer happened.
it’s just not a reasonable fear anymore, imo. Especially for super max security folks.
Now we know Rep. Cohen of Tennessee is a boubon man. I’m guessing I.W. Harpers of Kentucky is his hooch of choice.
My limited understanding of the public plan would mean that it would cost less, nobody could be excluded for a preexisting condition, and that more people (especially the young) would join up because of its affordability. Private insurance folks hate the idea, because if they compete their profit is slashed.
Don’t know why, but I always preferred Evan Williams.
Yeah, but he still needs his pacifier cuz he’s scardy of the terrorists.
Oh Microsuites? is $20 cheaper than comfort inn in medford or internet connection a little spotty or maybe its the computer it has been freezing lately.
agree. Happens on Democracy Now all the time, and always at a revealing point.
How the GOP is SAns facts unless we go Ultra LEFT!
I like that, too. but I usually ordered Harper’s when I drank bourban. Now its single malt scotch for sipping.
What is not clear to me, and seems up in the air given the Brown non-binding resolution is whether or not Po folk will be able to buy a government plan… So far it looks like we will be forced to buy private with some loose caveats (as you listed).
I don’t want the feds to force me to buy liability medical from profiteers who wont give me a soiled Band Aid for the price I can currently afford. I want to buy into Medicare.
emerson, you are a Bay area resident, correct?
Let the Terrorists in General Population if Child molesters, Rapists, Serial Killers get the beat down (watch OZ on HBO) I don’t think we have a worry Jeffery Dalhmler died despite Special protection from the guards.
I personally saw a guard leave a child molestor in country unattented by a guard who forgot his keyes I admit I joined in all c block telling him the fire doors were unattended if he wanted to run.
Yes we wanted him dead.
I think in Medford I got the Brown person price.
The San Fran/La area seems nicer and OR was better than the burbs of Chicago.
yeah, I live half way between SF and Napa in what used to be a little town called Hercules. Now it’s becoming a travel hub, so I’ll probably move to Napa in 2-3 years.
What were you in prison for, things? (Or you can tell me to mind my own business!)
Hi ES, everyone.
What’s blooming here is something that smells just like honey. I smelled this last year, especially at night.
Maybe you’ve been to Edinburgh Castle in SF. If not, check it out sometime. Used to have a fantastic selection of single malts. It’s a block away from Great American Music hall.
Honeysuckle?
County only not state prison 40 pounds of pot one class before an X felony at the time Cripes I can’t remember the exact charge I’m old.
I was first held in D block guys already convicted going straight to prison nothing to lose…they thought I’d break.
I lifted all the weights they had once so no problems. Then the big Mexican did a set of 12 lift all the weight still nobody but him thought they could take me:)
Hi Margot.. hmmmm I have these giant bushes covered with white blooms… wish I knew the name. Smells like milk and honey.
No hassle about minding your own business the lake attracts all kinds I just feel guilty I’m not pushing Prison reform more.
Hi everyone….. what’s up?
Outstanding selection, ES. I’ve been there many times. I used to work around Union Square for about 20 years. My first dance concert in SF was Pride and Joy at the Hall.
When did you move?
Well I confessed I’m a Pot Felon
I think we call it Silver Lace, but here it doesn’t bloom until later. That’s exactly what it smells like, you’re right.
That’s what I thought, but I can’t see any. I don’t have any growing, if some neighbor does then it sure does waft a long way!
Hi katymine.. my stereo volume. /s
How are you?
Foreigner on KVIO? New lead singer most of the old band I think. My moms cousins she was adopted so I just met them then I did not meet them until my brothers funeral played this for me nonstop cause I asked.
My Friend in college played “Who wants to live forever” by Queen when I first heard the news.
Well we do need prison reform. One out of 100? That’s crazy. Plus, marijuana should be legalized.
I lived there mid 80’s to mid 90’s. Loved it.
Hi!
I confess that I had approx 3-4 oz of wine tonight with the London Broil ….. OMG was it good……(I am not to drink alcohol while on chemo)
I’m sitting on the Group W bench already, come join me.;)
I had a nice place in Noe from about ‘84-’87. Only a block from 24th. Loved that place.
1 out of 100?
Heck my social worker sister ran the stats of hispanic Commuity College Grads who got their BA’s I forget the numbers but I’m a lot better than that.
Heck I’m one of the best in the BA philosophy program at WIU I was unafraid of arguing and losing to the teachers.
To be fair I never beat them. Still I remember Jose saying your the most know it all person I know so I could not quit!
Sheesh Talkin about Jose the youngest and Best fighter of the Oropeza I’m drinkin heavy.
Can’t stay awake ….. heading off to bed….Nite everyone….
Sorry I was 19 now 40 don’t understand you kids slang:)
Nite Kateymine you are the Lake’s Katy don’t ever forget that!
I loved Streetlight Records. Lived in and around the Haight after I realized Sausalito and Pacific Heights was not the best place for me (at the time). *s*
good night katymine.
I love it when you talk dirty, Loo.
Why not curious
I was young and crazy… and though the first few years I worked my ass off by day in the financial district.. I was not about to spend all my money on housing… instead of a real good time. Ended up starting a shop in the Haight anyway… it was meant to be.
Hah! Alice’s Restaurant, the song. I saw it before you were born.
The Haight is different, but still fun. Worked in Sausalito for a couple of years. It was pretty there, but grew tired of it quickly. Maybe if they didn’t close the whole town at 6 pm *g*
So, the timing was off, eh? You had to be paying some coin in PH.
Only saw part of it once still City of New Orleans is on my ipod reminds me of home it was hell but I miss the woods. I miss playing hockey every day on Christmas break (can’t do that now global warming) I miss motorcycles in the gravel pits we lead the world in gravel production. I miss sunning nude in an empty quarry.
Geez, Teddy.
When I arrived in SF, I didn’t have enough money for the Bay Bridge toll.
What kind of a shop?
It was pretty short lived in PH. Roomed with a new friend / paralegal coworker for a few months. His name was similar to yours.. which is one reason i remembered you were from the area.
Yeah, and what did you do in the Financial District before that, ES?
You all did see what Ron Reagan had to say about Limbaugh, right?
Expensive. /s
Vintage clothing.. retail, but mostly wholesale export.
The show played twice here in Sacto today, and was normal both times . . . guess the conspiracy didn’t make it to the godforsakenvalleythatimeforgot . . *G*
Good evening! Well, I confess I’m not a pot felon because I could run like hell in high heeled shoes and had an uncanny sense of “Cop”. Smell them 2 blocks away.
Forgive me, Suzanne.
Ah, so you were a lawyer too? What specialty?
What he didn’t use my his wife’s one big mac away from the lottery meme? I’m hurt! My 3 wives? no kids you are sterile or Gay argument?
I’m hurt
He does not read the Lake!
I worked for personnel agencies, in placement primarily, and head hunting. I was very young, so I used it as a stepping stone.. worked in big law firms, brokerage houses, some accounting and insurance, advertising, etc. All as chance to look around and see what area I might want to major in college.
They all failed… I followed my heart, studied photography.
Attaboy Ron! KO took some good shots at him yesterday, too About time he’s shown for the buffoon he is.
What happened to the business? Did you get tired of it?
I’ve always wanted to be a clothing buyer for Nordstrom or someplace like that. Spend other people’s money….travel….get nice items for the store.
They saw my truck as we headed back could not leave my truck, I out ran most of the seniors on the soccer team my freshman year…and I was a walk on no summer practice still I out ran them.
That and I unlike the rest of the freshmen sat in the back of the bus the Seniors did not mess with me.
It’s a thing of beauty. Just like the senators being called chickenshit by Obama. I love it!
That was smart strategy, ES. It worked out perfectly then! So, you’re still shooting, I gather? And what of the vintage shop?
I missed that? Who did Obama call out, Loo Hoo?
Wow. I was just at C&L starting to listen to the Church Committee tape, and it’s being introduced by Nina Tottenburg. I had no idea she’s been around in news this long.
It was really hard work, but far better than working for a big chain, imo. Especially so for me because of the international customers, the travel to see them and how much purchasing power my couple of shops had while buying for many overseas customers. I could just sell what I really liked in the Haight shop. As i moved on to try different angles back home in AR, I slowly helped an old friend turn my shop into his own vintage record and CD shop for a fair price.
I have 2 words….legalize pot.
Oh, and buy the Afghan poppies and start making some decent painkillers. Not the synthetic disasters. Encourage them to go organic.
And we could use decent review of the values of the ancient medicinal coca plant.
Well, there’s no confiscation booty in legalized plant growing. No busts, no glory.
I think she’s been in DC the whole time, too? Very good reporter. IMO.
Well, just in his speech yesterday. He said we were entirely capable of safely incarcerating anyone from GTMO here in the US.
The Senators voted (something like 94 to 6) not to fund the closing of GTMO cuz they were scardy that some detainees might be incarcerated in their states. Fearless Reid said that they would not be allowed on American soil.
You Got me! Write a Diary!
and Thanks:)
Digital shooting just doesn’t do it for me like film. And i don’t have a darkroom set up these days. The internet takes a lot of my time now. Hope to look into motion digital next. As soon as I pay off my house I want to go all Mike Stark on some Arkansas politicians. *s*
I tired of the shop deal and the foreign markets dried up a great deal in ‘01. Still work with a few of my old customers, but nothing like it once was.
What fun. Courageous of you.
When I broke my arm this winter, the ambulance EMT’s gave me a shot of morphine. On the bill it was less than 3.00. Cheapest item of the entire ordeal.
Yes, I agree. Just go for a minute and listen to her young voice.
Oh okay. I didn’t hear the first part, but I read a synopsis during the day.
How can we get rid of Reid asap?
Good lord, Pride And Joy . . . wow . . . a Peninsula staple in their time . . . lounge city all the way with the soulful sounds . . . . mid to late 70’s? Or did they start earlier than that?
I still prefer old Tower Of Power, Elvin Bishop with Jo Baker . . . but I’m a die hard hippie old fart. *G*
The Bay Area was SO loaded for music for almost three decades . . . and I’m still partial to the early 60’s thru mid 70’s. *G
That’s up to the senators. They choose the leader. I guess he’s been admired for his procedural know-how, but this was embarrassing for him. (And for the senators that followed his lead, I’m sure.)
Does public health plan mean, no charge to the users?
Cuz if ya can’t afford it, what do ya do?
What DOES single payer mean?
Canada, and Britain, have GREAT plans, mostly free for those who can’t afford it, and with great care.
I know and have known folks from both countries for two decades now. They’ve loved their healthcare,
And they were NOT upper class . . . VERY middle class, older, retired, and such.
I’m kinda of open about my shit. I think there are more of us out there but non convicted And not non violent.
But the some people do talk and their are hints.
The Lake has unknown street cred.
good report by Nina. Did you see that picture of Helms? Have I had too much wine or does that pix look just like J. Edgar Hoover?
Here’s the thumbsucker rollcall. Abstentions, no NO votes.
Here’s a shop:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnE_H3Et_s8
Yeah, but you did exactly what entrpreneurs die for, ES! You found the niche market and you went for it. Congratulations!
My guess is there is an AR dark room in your immediate future.
That would be great fun, but like i said, I may go into comedy.. chasing AR politicians with a video cam and putting them on the lake/net. They really are able to hide here with ease.. it’s time that changed.
She was a major force for NPR when I did radio in San Mateo ‘77-84 . . . unlike Cokie Roberts . . . Nina still remains as good of a journalist as one can be in media these days . . . sigh. I miss Scoop Nisker but still hear Travuz T Hipp . . .*G*
I think he’s been the embarassment the whole time. When he was named, everyone was talking about how he knew the ins and outsof the Senate. If he did, khe must have forgotten it all because he got played by the thugs constantly. He was talking gibberish yesterday. That guy pisses me off.
Abstention seems particularly unnecessary there. I don’t get it.
Do It! What fun.
That does sound pretty great. Your senator Mark Prior (?) could use a lot of looking after.
You can always raid the Clinton Library on slow news days.
I’m with you there.
We need to alleviate pain and to do this, we need morphine.
I know it, I can’t wait!
Well, I need to turn in.
good night fabulous firedogs.
All of them.. need a wake up call.
Boozeman
Pryor
Lincoln
Ross
Berry.
even New Dem Snyder.
g’ nite
I don’t get it either, unless it was part of the chess game with Obama to be able to discuss the issue like sane people. Not that I believe in the chess game theory…
Night, ES. Thanks.
g’nite, ES.
Loo Hoo-you’re a lady of leisure now, I hear?
Wow-Olberman is on Jimmy Fallon?
Well, not total leisure yet. Retired from teaching though. I have some other work I’m still doing.
yo
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert today. Gail Collins asks “When Did Cowboys Get Wimpy?” She says after Hardin, Mont., offered to hold Guantánamo prisoners in its empty prison, there was no applause for the plucky move. The state’s Democratic senators went ballistic. Mr. Blow talks about “The Land That Republicans Forgot,” and says the leadership of the Republican Party in the Northeast has systematically shed its idealists in favor of ideologues, reducing itself to the Cheney-Limbaugh illusionati. Mr. Herbert, in “The Absence of Proof,” says it’s bad enough people are executed in the United States. But it’s absolutely chilling that Troy Davis is on death row when there is doubt that he committed murder. Take it from a resident of Georgia — the Davis case is a catastrophe and a national embarrassment.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got blueberry muffins today. Rain. More rain again today. We got enough of a break yesterday that I was able to get 2 of the tomato plants into their big pots (for some reason they do better for me in pots), but this weather is letting the weeds take over even more than usual. [Sigh] Have a grand day.
What’s blooming here is something that smells just like honey. I smelled this last year, especially at night.
bee farts.
It may be sweet alyssum — to me it smells exactly like honey. Small plant, good for window boxes.
but wouldn’t bee farts smell like honey no matter what it is that’s blooming?
So ya can’t really rule my answer out, right?
heh.
The Indy 500 Parade is forming up outside the window this morning. Think I’ll go somewhere else. Seen one…..
Although it is kind of cool to be close enough to see the racers’ eyes. For some reason, they all seem to have these strange, mega-intense eyes.
And really, really pretty girlfriends/wives.
Adore that stuff; have several pots this year and likely to have more next. Don’t seem to have any pest problems with it, unlike some plants that will go unnamed. :-(
Do you shear yours when a bloom cycle is over and does it rebloom for you?
Chirsty’s talkin’ about bees and stuff…
