The GOP’s last presidential candidate:
"When you have a majority of Americans, seventy-something percent, saying we shouldn’t torture, then I’m not sure it helps for the Vice President to go out and continue to espouse that position," he said. "But look, he’s free to talk. He’s a former Vice President of the United States. I just don’t see where it helps."
And then he got acerbic: Cheney, he says, "believes that waterboarding doesn’t fall under the Geneva Conventions and that it’s not a form of torture. But you know, it goes back to the Spanish Inquisition."
McCain is apparently unaware that the Spanish Inquisition is totally consistent with American values.

Morning, BT. Sun is shining in MN and so am I. *g* Cheney/McCain, not so much.
The GOP’s de facto standard bearer vs. the GOP base’s hero on torture. It’s really bizarre to watch.
I think this is a must read:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05…..rooks.html
The ghost of Jack Kennedy is forcing Cheney to run his mouth. Jack’s ghost will be avenged.
Copy that, Arlen?
But you know, it goes back to the Spanish Inquisition.”
and did they pay royalties to Eric Idle and the boys?
Nooooo……
…a majority of Americans, seventy-something percent, saying we shouldn’t torture,…
what a depressingly low number. That’s still a huge chunk of some seriously twisted sons-a-bitches out
therehere.Truth? I worry about Keith Olbermann’s safety. Not obsessively. Just…sometimes. He is taking on the Madman in Chief here.
About the same number that thinks BushCo was awesome.
Heh. In KO’s mouth, “sir” is a 4-letter word.
I think W was awesome, but not in a good way.
OT – Is/Was there to be a discussion with Senator Whitehouse one of these days?
‘Tis.
Or that the colonies should have remained loyal to George III …
Mornin’ All
jayt – believe that is this morning at 10:45 ET
Liz on Mornin for the next HOUR
I wonder what the morning bubbleheads will do with Cheney’s little pep talk to the AEI fenderheads. I wonder if crazy ol’ Irving Kristol and idiot son William were in attendance.
thanks.
lemme check with the boss…
yep – I’m giving me the time off.
with another stern warning, of course.
(my boss is so lame)
I guess you answered my question. Makes me wonder how many years she’s been doin’ Daddy.
whoa!
Self-employed, too. Staff meetings are tedious.
Whoa! There goes the thread’s “G” rating…
Liz the shrill shill.
Someone needs to start asking Cheney why, if he believes his policies were so critical to national security, he didn’t run for president. He’s considerably younger than McCain and had the same ticker problems when he discovered himself as Bush’s VP candidate. It seems sort of like he took a sixth deferment and let somebody else do the work he considers so critical.
Liddy’s quiting AIG.
Staff meetings are tedious.
One would think that I’d have the same problem.
But – not so much.
I figure that as long as an argument doesn’t break out, everything’s cool.
Cheney seems to be very comfortable in the position of The Power Behind The Throne.
I think I am done with Morning Joe. This is disgusting. Liz and Joe saying that Obama could clear this dispute up if he would just release those documents. They are so full of shit and fuck you MSNBC for letting this shit go on.
Cheney was prez for 8 years, and he’s proving it post-2008 election. Besides, what nut would want to be the prez to have to deal with the post-Cheney admin problems?
Geez, the advance crew should have figured out that echo in the Obama speech location.
Liddy’s quiting AIG.
he was overpaid anyway.
Aren’t they all?
Morning, barbara, from another Twin Citian. It is lovely, isn’t it?! Especially after those hot summer winds. The red-wing blackbirds in my yard like it, too. :)
I had the same fleeting thought last night while watching Keith. Cheney’s performance yesterday was chilling in its delusion (whether he himself is delusional or simply believes the rest of us are that susceptible to his mind-tricks) and Keith nailed him. Good thing Keith’s so visible — makes it harder to pull something.
I’m willing to bet he’ll be well compensated by Goldman Sux.
Yeah, I know. I just want him or Liz to have to say, on Morning Joe or somewhere, that he had another application in for grad school, had developed a pilonidal cyst, or something.
Hey, how come you didn’t defend me after I went to sleep??? :)
Oh, I guess I didn’t get the memo. So sorry. Will adhere to my responsibilities better in the future.
Liz and Joe saying that Obama could clear this dispute up if he would just release those documents.
I think you’ve put the words in the wrong order. It’s not “just release those documents” – it’s “release just those documents”.
small change – big difference.
isn’t he the guy who was working for $1 a year?
I had a pilonidal cyst the whole time I was in the Delta. Didn’t keep me outta the shit.
Just kiddin, I’m just a concern troll lookin for love in all the wrong places.
good thing it wasn’t the bullhead clap!
I thought I heard that he was to get shares or some sort of comp after he left.
I forgot that, but overpaid even at that price, I think.
Me too.
They are so full of shit and fuck you MSNBC for letting this shit go on.
I got a new MSNBC governor. My teebee now won’t allow MSNBC to come on until 8:00 EST.
If I hadn’t already known that Bush was a puppet, my first clue would have been when they insisted that he testify on the Valery Plame matter, sitting on Cheney’s knee, with Dick’s hand running up the back of his shirt.
Knew a couple guys who ended up with that. I’ll stick with the cyst, thank you very much. Stayed away from the women. Was afraid I’d end up with my throat slit.
don’t know whether Irving’s son attended or not – here’s his take:
Yes, that was one of the more memorable examples.
There was this joint in Sa Dec. . .never mind!
Mornin’ pups. been raining in The City Beautiful since Sunday and more predicted. Several days more. But we believe in Magic so it ain’t all bad.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com…..5164.story
It’s interesting that Cheney used Obama’s talking point that we shouldn’t criminalize political disagreements.
Yep, idiot son.
I developed one while in the Air Force, from 65-69. When I got out, and looked into going to work with the State Department, I found you couldn’t be hired for a foreign service officer, if you had one. But I never saw any obstacle to getting into the armed services, and if there had been one, it could have been fixed, like teeth.
sitting on Cheney’s knee, with Dick’s hand running up the back of his shirt.
Shirt?
Unless you’re assuming that it was tucked in at the time – think lower….
Saw a bit of hannity last night. The Wiz was on. Same ol’ shit. Click. Put on Lakers-Nuggets. Wanna see who The Magic are gonna play for the champeeeenship.
that ain’t why I couldn’t re-up!
….and a willingness to take responsibility for those choices
Bullshit.
The Liz. Not The Wiz. Sorry.
I wasn’t back in the world very long before I had mine removed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. Kinda weird having the world’s leading proctologist being a Navy Captain. A real production line. Sailors very prone to hemmorhoids from sitting on those cold steel bits and chocks. Ward full of “hemmys” and “cystys.” With a really hot Lieutenant as Head Nurse.
The reason I didn’t have it fixed while in the AF was that I knew a guy who did and he had to take a bunch of shit from everyone, including myself, for sitting on an inner tube.
Put on Lakers-Nuggets.
nuggets played like some serious bad-asses last night.
ewwwwwwwww, jay, stoooooop it, rofl, not awake yet, first comment i read after watching the township worker veg-o-matic my tree line with his mower-arm….yuh-uck…
breakfast will be liquid this morning i think…v8 and alfalfa powder..i feel the need to cleanse.
: )
is lizzie borden-cheney now a regular on the dancing jo-jo’s on msnbc? fits right in, her head bobs.
edit–crap, double entendre–i meant head bobs like a bobblehead.
I was gonna say, “Cheech Wizard on da tube? Far out!”
was on hannity last nite. definitely a regular there. very sad when msnbc and Hannity are having the same people on.
What are you doin’ still there, darlin’? May be you’re too young to be worrying about blood pressure problems but I can guar-an-damn-tee you (personal experience talkin’) not listening to the scar/mika shit will bring it down at least five points. *g*
I had mine removed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego….With a really hot Lieutenant as Head Nurse.
that’s some serious bad timing.
My specialty.
KO was as usual great, and I know he or his staff or both read here at the lake so I need to point something out;
Cheney is not delusional, he’s lying, two different things
Cheney knows with no doubt there was far more actionable intelligence obtained without torture then with
he knows he created more terrorists by his policies
he knows far more Americans died after 9/11 from terrorism then before and he knows it’s his policies that created those results
he knows torture creates more problems then it ever solves
he knows and ordered torture to gather confessions that were not true
Cheney is not delusional, he is a studied graduate from the strauss school of sociopathy and politics, as is krystol and the entire pnac, the students leave telling what they “call” “noble lies” to achieve their goal
Cheney is a sociopath and a liar, not delusional
I hope ko can do his next piece on cheney with that fact in mind
Lakers? Nuggets? Are those expansion teams? American or National League. *g*
depends on your point of view
v8 and alfalfa powder.
when I was drinking, my idea of a Virgin Bloody Mary was – “hold the tomato juice”.
cheney was defacto puppet though, his strings were being pulled even more then bush’s
bush didn’t know he was the puppet and didn’t realize he was doing their bidding, he was convinced their bidding were his orders
cheney knew he was taking orders
“Those who are fit to rule are those who realize that there is no morality and that there is only one natural right – the right of the superior to rule over the inferior.”
Leo Strauss
Nothing like using yer opponent’s cape as a shield. Sorry dick, not enuf room.
bush…was convinced their bidding were his orders. cheney knew he was taking orders
reverse delegating?
lol
i’m sure she thought your ‘butt’ was hot, too.
i can’t imagine being head nurse where you see more butts than faces.
a guy at work was a regular on the toidy every morning at the telco garage…and had a hemeroid that he kept putting off taking care of it..was painful to watch him walk and sit…some guys put ketchup packets under the seat one morning…man was he mad. but he made an appointment.
====
i meant to watch lizzie on ‘waterboard me’s show, forgot it was on.
==========
jayt–that’s some serious consumption, so, glad your clear liquid is water
now.
the alfalfa powder has all kinds of things in it. good stuff.
===
raven-needed defended? sorry i missed it. wanna i should go back with my slingshot?
I try to always remain thankful that Cheney was given the world’s most appropriate first name.
circular reasoning? letting him off the hook? whu?
I think we’ve all been told that, if you trace all the lines, through all their weblike patterns, they eventually come together at David Rockefellor. :)
I’m doin’ all right now – click my “f”.
cheney is laying the groundwork to making sure he isn’t arrested for treason by framing it as political discourse.
nah, it’s cool. I got the “some people” bs along with the concern troll. They no likey me at night.
yeah, I read that somewhere.
and read it, and read it, and…..
Bravo, perris! Superb summary. Hope the KO team picks up on your remarks.
KO was excellent, but Rachel’s coverage of Obama’s “double speech” knocked my socks off. She nailed him.
that’s the only part of this that’s fun.
dealing with that wretched mental cretin and the aftermath of his run thru the chinashop is the very essence of torture.
someone’s not saying their prayers every eventide.
i keep opening my eyes each morn, and he’s still there.
dear dog. please make dick decide to go away. anywhere. just, away.
his halflife is longer than that of plutonium.
*fumbles for roll of duct tape*
Patients thought my wife Lyn was hotter than the Head Nurse (so did I). “Is your wife coming to visit today?” Sailors have no shame.
They no likey me at night.
heh – look at it this way – you’re a hell of a conversation starter….
i got kicked out, remember?
friends pressuring me to join again…been thinking about about trying again..don’t want to use my name and hate lying.
my ‘dmac’ goes to my flickr page most of the time, my little blog ‘just something i noticed’ the other times. people just contact me through the flickr page. fdl has a ‘group’ on there.
and i remember you’re doin’ well. good.
With Kissinger and the Bush kin as his stooges.
heh heh.
YOU? a yoo?
maybe you peeved off someone, but i find it hard to believe that ‘they no likey me at night’……….will have to read it to see.
i got kicked out, remember?
whuh?
actually, I’d like to figure out a way to lose that little “f” beside my name here….
nuthin’ wrong with lookin’!!
some people brighten up the world just by being in it.
I bought her a green Chinese style dress in Hong Kong, high collar and all. She could turn crowds in that dress. Too bad we grew in different directions. We stay in touch and neither of us has remarried.
You among friends.
We likey you, day or night.
We likey Raven?
Damned right!
gawlee. u guys ‘r worse than a bunch’a ole biddies at a t party.
ain’t u got nuthin ta do? *g*
Cheney and the rest of the Bushies claim that they kept Americans safe after 9/11, but in fact more than 4000 more Americans lost their lives as a result of the Bush/Cheney response to 9/11. They were killing us over there and didn’t have to come over here.
Also, Al Qaeda’s strategic aim was not to kill Americans — that was only a tactic. Their stated strategic aim was to “bankrupt America,” an aim that is well on its way to realization, in no small part due to the Bushie’s foolish response to 9/11.
Hi DWBartoo. Now that’s the truth fer darn sure. Ayyep.
Oh, bother. This is not elementary school. I thought we all had the right to our own opinions. Why is it alright for some folks to speak their minds, but not others? And, just because I disagree with a line of, er, reasoning, doesn’t mean “you’re not my friend anymore”.
We’re all big boys and girls.
aw shit, I didn’t want to get on this!
Yo! Adie, how be you treatin’ life, this day?
Tough!
balls huh?
ain’t u got nuthin ta do? *g*
yeah, but…..
(workday doesn’t start until the next thread appears.)
Seems plain as the nose on your face that both Revelation and Nostradomos list those three guys. They were probably all descendants of Knights Templar or something. Now I think I’ll dig out my Rubix Cube and spend another three years obsessing over it.
harumph! humma humma, yessir. just restin’ ma’ eyes. sir.
will tend to it sir. yessir. rightawaysir.
go to your fdl profile, and delete the info.
i’d like to have one, but not with my real name…just for communication/contact info purposes, rather than give out my email on a blog.
yeah, i used my ‘dmac’ then naively emailed facebook for help with a question, how to remove my primary email and birthdate, i was on dial-up and couldn’t find it ‘in a year’ in the help section…busted. was one of the first pups to sign up.
when we could add flickr, i did. don’t check it all of the time, but i do check it.
just got a larger card for my camera, so, am going to play with uploading images of seohio. i love seeing what other places look like, so, maybe people want to see what it is like here.
and yes, i am someone who actually LIKES seeing friends’ home movies and vacation pictures !!
Workday doesn’t start ’til after we talk with Whitehouse.
(Spoke with yer boss, and he okayed it. ;~D)
DW
She said what she thought. So do you. So do I. Not everyone stands up for what they believe. Sometimes it’s easier to go along with the crowd.
I’m sorry you got your feelings hurt. I believe you’ve used the “some people” line before. Maybe I’m disremembering.
Apology accepted?
REALLY too much information, guys. eeewwww
lol When they were the rage I saw a small Asian lad pick one up in the store. 30 seconds, done, back on the shelf.
none needed
u figured that out too, eh? sharp as a tack, u be!
(an if we don’t notice the new title, we can just keep on enjoying the good company)
Raven. If the nasties pick on ya, just file it. If you don’t know how by now, you’re above our pay grade.
Go into your profile and remove the Facebook link.
Dick Chenney before he dicks you. As we use to say back in the Nixon/Kissinger Regime. You know who’s calling the shots still in Dick’s
Family don’t you? His Military Industrial Complex wife on the board their at Lockheed/Martin. He needs to start developing his own private sector networking contacts, and not carry on his ‘water cooler wars’ in our national media. His demented, feeble, warped brain from the Republican Beltline Fear Establishment of the late 20th Century is kept on line somehow by the miracle of our modern medicine culture. I thought Obama would sign a warrant for his arrest in Europe with Interpol, and get him to the Haige where he belongs with the rest of Shrubco.
good on ‘ya.
one of my best friends, his former wife works for him part-time..miserable break-up, problems, years ago…they get along great now, as friends.
and u don’t think gremlins are scooping up and filing all these little tags u adopt here & there?
i’ll never be on facebk. nuh uh. *cowers behind drapes*
We were lucky. No miserable break up, none of that shit. We just knew we couldn’t live together. She’s still the only woman I can say I was/am in love with.
I’m surprised we’re not talking about Rachel’s rant about Obama last night!?!?!
damn demi, you elbowing again>??????????? kicking people under the table again at dinner???/s
rofl…omg…
rofl…..
darlin’ you gotta quit runnin’ into that wall…go around, through the door.
now i know i gotta go read it…rofl.
i think you two were siblings in another life…
rofl…
old news travels fast.
Didn’t see it so can’t comment about it. At lunch I’ll check her M$NBC site.
i gotta go watch the nice plumber install a new elbow so we can do dishes agin. whoop! what an exciting day!
stay safe dear pups. them’s orders.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Since dick brought up a certain date over 25 times in the speech, I have a question or two.
Who decided dick was in charge of war games on a certain date? Was it another self selection process?
What was the criteria for deciding who had the best brains, military knowledge, tactical acumen, and battle tested tactics to sit in the catbird’s seat that fateful day? What was the process to come up with disabling war games that day?
With a competent commander in the HOT seat on that day, would there have been a more favorable outcome than the one we suffered with a failure in command. The jackass didn’t know how to engage the missile batteries on the Pentagon with a five minute warning.
Treason is never a mistake but it’s always a mistake not to call it Treason.
No bruises on my elbows or feet this morning. If you do go and read, let me know what you think.
And, I am a front door woman. *g*
i think they decided by having a particularly vicious game of dodge ball.
when it gets down to just one guy left, the games pretty much over, more or less, as it were, so to speak.
that’s a warm thought.
my best friends have a ‘not too old to rock and roll’ party every year. we invite everyone that was and is a part of our lives for over thirty years. except my former husband.
one night a few years ago, i was ‘talkin’ trash’ through the bathroom window , and realized that three of the men standing there were former, ummmm, ‘friends’..and boy had they aged and changed-two are now repubs– and boy was i glad i wasn’t married to any of them…..omg was that funny.
funny, good, no bruises.
i don’t get inbetween sibling spats.
or spouses.
my two best friends are married to each other, and we are all like siblings to each other, i learned that one long time ago.
rofl.
sure they are, that’s not why—i just don’t want someone showing up at my door uninvited.
write them, twolf, i have, repeatedly.
from their site.
even spotlighted posts to them to get the president’s addy and producers and news department, because it is impossible to get an email to any of them from the msnbc site. all pr addys.
what they did after the jesse ventura tape the other day was it. the whole gang giggling like 7th graders while talking about torture. beyond the pale.
I wrote to them yesterday :)
I didn’t mean tell me who’s side your on. I meant, you tell me if you think I was poking or kicking. I don’t think I was. All I did was agree with a given comment. I can do that, right?
yay!!
especially that. yes. the other is not much threat to toothless nitwits like us.
Demi, I oughtta stay outta this because i haven’t the foggiest what’s going on but… are you o.k.? Someone picks on you, come ta me. I’ll smack ‘em. ;->
gotta run again – off to dump more junk, lucky library. all those books we thought we’d read, or HAD to read. Our fave title:
“19th Century Minor British Poets” heh.
HEY! SOMEone will want to read it. W. H. Auden crafted the thing. You know you’re really famous when you don’t have to use a racy title on your stuff. ;->
Yes, I’m ok, but am considering stepping away from this place for a while. Just too negative sometimes and, well, I don’t want people to think I’m kicking and shoving when all I did was support another commenter’s perception. How is it right that one person wants to be defended, but another person doesn’t get to be supported? No, it might be good for my heart and my blood pressure to take a time out.
i went off to find you a youtube and got sidetracked. then the phone rang….
earth, wind and fire–they included the lyrics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDhCtwr6W2U
i didn’t read it, so, cna’t say…but i don’t get the drama the day after.
’someone’ once told me, ‘it’s just a blog’….that helped me in many ways…some days you’re invested and some you’re not.
i’ve had my scrapes here, there are a few that STILL take what i say completely wrong-because of past ‘rifts’ they formed a perception and are stickin’ to it, and i will be taken incorrectly in the future, i’m sure. i have incorrectly done the same.
like anywhere, you stick your neck out, it can get chopped or caressed. or ignored. throw a bunch of opinionated humans into a room, armed with their own ways, own problems and own agendas and it’s gonna get ‘tight’ sometimes.
and when you try to make people ‘behave’ you’re volunteering to get hit when the one you are defending ‘ducks’ right when the punch lands..that’s been my experience anyway. i only had to learn that one a few times. ha.
chin up, it’s not just the lake, you’re lookin’ through a different lens right now, cuz of the loss of your friend..makes things amplify.
hang in..’plant your flower’ and play your song over and over, always helps me ‘reset’ my meter….
Thanks, D. You’re correct, btw, on all counts.
‘welcome, thought i recognized it…do some little things at home and out in the world that honor your friend and do little things that help you heal that make you happy…probably are the same things.
take care, pups.
Do what you need to do for your own peace of mind, but this place would not be the same without you. Yes, lots of strong feelings float and zing around here, launched by an astonishing abundance of hefty resumes. I’d be clobbered rather promptly by – no, not trolls – but, yes, some unfailingly negative scolds who maintain a scorched policy on some subjects, a few seemingly on ANY subject at all. That sort of thing is not necessary, imo, but it’s a style some prefer. So I find myself avoiding threads they seek, and refraining from addressing certain topics if they’re within stone’s throw. A few times I just couldn’t resist and did the unthinkable – confession – I teased some, on purpose (not alldedamtime, just a little). That’s the ghastly truth of the matter, and no, it did not go over well atall atall. still, it was fun at the time, and my heart kept beating in my chest.
P.E.A.C.E. and independence, dear lady. If you do take a break, please come back soon. You will be missed. The orchestra at the Lake would get pretty boring in a hurry if they only play on one sour string. We need everything from the bass fiddle to the piccolo, and that’s the truth. ;->
