Malo – Suavecito (June 21, 1972). This song always makes me think of warm summer evenings. What’s your summer song? What’s on your mind tonight?

Hi Suzanne. Definitely outdoor summer concert-type music.
Suzanne!
Hey Suz!
first?
Good evening pups.
A quick shout out to Loo Hoo and Norske for being able to throw away their alarm clocks, a Howdy to katymine, hope you are still kicking ass and taking names honey, To Suzanne, ES, Nahant, Neuro and all the rest of ya Fire pups.
Have a nice weekend if I don’t see yas before.
PS, Hi RBG, Jane and Christy too.
hey votus
hey neuro
hey newton
hey funny d
how’s everyone doing tonight? today almost felt like summer – got up to 75 this afternoon.
hey busted

My summer song!
Hey Suzanne!
hey ce – saw rod stewart several years ago – dood was still putting on one hella show – i love maggie may
I’m good. We just got to see the new Star Trek movie today–I liked it.
Oh, I’m so 20 years old again…
hey everybody
it was in the mid-80s today in NE KS. I got a little warm while I was out chainsawing in my backyard (or “cutting brush,” as some would have it. The difference is this was not a photo op.)
But it developed into a nice summer evening.
what did ya like about it votus?
it is a holiday weekend…. I feel good and near 100%….. I’m cooking and making some really great food. How about a London broil, enchiladas made with carne asada, chicken thighs teriyaki and blue cheese hamburgers with potato salad …..
down into the 40’s here tonight so no nice summer evening here. weather dood said we may hit 85 even at the beaches this weekend and our lows should be in the 60’s. hope that is not just inland – would be nice to be able to sleep with the windows open again.
dayam, if i was down there, i would invite myself to partake of that feast. yummy yummy.
Of course, at 18 it was the Moody Blues.
Yea katymine! London broil– we love it! More garlic, more lemon…
The effects and cg were great, and the casting I thought was done very well. Mr. Votus had problems with the script, because it was a prequel to the old Star Trek series and this script changed some things that would have altered storylines in the tv show, but that didn’t really bother me. As a self-contained entertainment, I thought it was successful.
big hug to busted…. missed you my dear…… I’m going back to Portland in a few weeks and would love to see you again….. I have a 6 days free between chemo infusions…..
tuesday afternoon
katymine, you are one tough chica. I couldn’t/wouldn’t do that much cooking on my best day – and I haven’t been sick! Just lazy, I guess.
Glad you’re feeling so good.
Sounds delish! Glad that you are feeling better.
Let me know, a feller needs a little warning so he can shave.
It would be great to see you again.
i think the last movie i saw was shrek 2 – and the movie before that was shrek and before that… i think it was 28 days.
i don’t do many movies anymore. am thinking about maybe changing that.
hey tejan
Just like old times!
Darn good music choices, Suzanne.
But the dates of the vids! Shocking! 1970! 1972! Why, where the heck did the time go? Listening to either one, the years just drop away….
We watch lots of movies on Netflix, but don’t go down to the theatre much anymore. It is worthwhile to do when you can, though. Fun to be part of a group reaction.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9muzyOd4Lh8
choices choices – Van Morrison sings Brown Eyed Girl.
it is not my birthdays that make me feel old – it is the birthdays of my girls – jen will be 32 this year and stephanie will be 21. that not being able to call myself the mom of a teen really took some time to get used to
cooking one a day…. right now I am eating like a horse….. about every 3 hours and we are not talking about tiny meals…… tonight it was three pieces of family size Pizza and it should be chow time again soon
I’m also not loosing any more weight….. I am down 20lbs since April…
oh geez, takes me way back. hey and thanks mrwhy
Having grown up back east, Summer In The City always felt like a real summer song.
Ha – speaking of old memories – early my freshman year in college, went to my first fraternity party – guy flirting w/ me tried to impress me by telling me he used to play with the Moody Blues.
I had never heard of them.
wow – didn’t realized that had an official music video – another great tune ce
hey cujo – another great tune.
Called my parents tonight and told them I am applying for social security disability…. In there late 80’s they thought it was funny…. two generations on social security……
that is hilarious!
how are they doing katy? adjusting to life back in the new old home?
I love Pearl Django, a local group from Seattle. Begin the Beguine.
20 lbs. since April? And it’s still May. No wonder you’re ravenous, girl. You just shovel it all in, girl, enjoy yourself.
Suzanne – I suspect that not having kids is why I don’t (usually) feel my age – till I glance in a mirror and get shocked all over again, seeing that -ahem- older woman in the glass! ;)
Sumertime
Hi Pups!!
Off to Orange City(LA area) in the morning… youngest is graduating from Chapman U Dodge School of Film and Arts on Saturday am!! Finally!!
Went to Nursing school back in 1969 in Kansas City ….. it was truly was summer in the city ….. the riots didn’t help either
nahant! dood, i thought that was gonna be janis
be well all
hey sunny
i had not heard of them.. thanks votus
Thanx. I, at least, was dumb and innocent then. Still hadn’t even learned all the usual anglo-saxon cuss words when I got to college.
Of course, learning all that stuff was fun.
Today’s students just don’t know the thrill of sneaking into your dorm past curfew without being caught by the r.a. or the –hunh, what did we call the little old lady who signed us in and out? Anyway. If there’s no curfew, and nobody to sneak past –and you don’t even live in a dorm! – where’s the fun?
The sweet bliss of unconsciousness beckons.
Gnite y’all.
Wow! The song is from MY mother’s time. She had the sheet music and used to play it on the piano when I was little.
Had to find that!! My sister knew the group who made the one hit wonder!! Lots of Summer memories of Nahant with that one!!! I can almost taste it!
The house is fine…. it is weird because it is the same floor plan but things are different….. Light switches in different places, that sort of stuff….. Mom has moderate dementia and as long as Dad is around to hold it together then it is ok…..
The best two things is that my mother does NOT cook or wander …… when I was up there at the first of the year….. I found the oven was locked and they had no idea how to turn on the stove top……
g’thud busted
she’s not wandering because she is home :)
that’s gotta be hard, the same yet different
Night Busted… Sleep well my friend..
Here’s R.E.M. doing Begin The Begin at a summer concert.
I am into early jazz and early Broadway and film tunes. I’ve seen Pearl Django play live a couple of times and they are really good.
Oh, the thrill of sneaking your lover past the r.a.! And then guess what! I WAS the RA!
Two versions of the same summer-y song…
The Girl From Ipanema … First and Second
The second one is by the original artist, in what sounds like Portugese, which makes sense.
And I had forgotten about Malo…Suavecito is such a lovely song. Thanks for this one, Suze…
Didn’t find video of Joni, but this cover (I’m A Radio) is nice.
hey jofish – the first summer tunes that i can remember is itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini… and the girl from impanema
That’s fun!
katy – weather dood just said the weather up here is just like it is at the end of june not the end of may.
More hilarious, Christine!
And one more summer song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
Suzanne, we must be near the same age – I remember “Itsy Witsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bkini” from a very early age, too. Around the same time as the “Flying Purple People Eater.” LOL
I ordered a couple of wigs…. I do not have any hair and ordered 2 from the Cancer Society….. I think they are very cute…
wig one
wig two
katy – that is a cute wig :) i like it
will be 55 this october – people eater is a fall song, halloweenie even. but yeah, long haired long armed flying purple people eater
A couple of years ago a theatre I work with did a play with a punk rock version of Girl from Ipanema. Sadly, there is no recording that I’m aware of.
Suze – I’ve got 4 years on ya – no wonderthe memory is conflating the songs together. Of course, after years of oldies stations, I’m often unsure when I first heard something really old.
purple people eater – from 1958 per the utube
good night and good luck – from Stevie
g’nite mr why
Brian Hyland, I think wasn’t it? He was sort of a two-hit wonder. That’s one of them. We’re definately about the same age, Suzanne… LOL. He also did “Gypsy Woman” which I think Cher covered a few years later.
Let’s see, my summer song…depends on the year I guess (there used to be one big summer song every year back then), but I’ll start with the rather obvious “Summer” by War.
Especially enjoyed the second version. It is great to hear the old masters put their touch on their own tune. Mr. Votus does like to call this The Girl With Emphazema, however. Old musician joke.
Cujo, that must have been pretty cool. Love to have heard that…
omigod, you found it! brb….
Wheee! Boy, I loved that when I was nine…musta driven my parents nuts when I sang along with it. Luckily, I had to wait till it came on the radio….
hey papazita – crap, not on utubes. so many songs i like are not on utube or, even worse, are embedding disabled.
It was. Unfortunately, we can’t record plays due to copyright restrictions. Or at least, they can’t show the recordings to anyone, which to me sounds like the same thing.
hey cujo – i see you got the front page at ox again – congrats
yum….. raspberry torte and french vanilla ice cream……
Ah, Suzanne you got me going on Toonz again… a late night joy for me.
I lived in the Bay Area from 1966-1970, used to listen to KYA (and I think KFRC when I had to) :-). I remember so many good tunes, and this one is a very good summertime toon… Sly!
LOL – you’re eating again??
I am getting sleepy so will head out. Thank you for the enjoyable chat–what a pleasant way to end the day!
Which is soooo effin’ stupid. Why bother to create something if you’re not going to share it? I mean, really.
g’nite and thank you votus
every night around 3:30-4:30 am I am stuffing my face again…. It is the cancer….. it demands a lot of calories and until the IV chemo starts working it will be that way…..
Thanks, Suzanne. Seems like I’m often there late in the evening for some reason. The ratings system is something I haven’t figured out, which I suspect is a good thing.
Hey, Suzanne – I just noticed – October! What date? I’m the 15th.
i was in pleasant hill during those years in contra costa county – my dad worked at the presido. knew was a good station back then too. remember emperor gene nelson. top of the hill daly city :)
no fucking way? same day same year? only met one other person (a guy at my former pd) who had same day same year. i’m the 15th – what year?
its some sort of computer generated thing – my eyes tend to glaze over when the techs talk about math algorithms and html
Lots of copyright restrictions make little sense to me. Are they afraid that an online video of their work will dissuade people from seeing another production? I hope most people are more discerning than that, but lately I’ve had cause to doubt it.
Eric Burdon and War – Spill the Wine (1970)
The Animals – House of the Rising Sun (1964)
Eric Burdon – The Animals – We Gotta Get Out Of This Place
Just some Summertime Music!1
Well off to sleep long ass drive in the morning…
san francisco nights
Nope, not same year – 1949. You must be 1954?
There was a girl in my h.s. class who was same day same year – oh, well, I guess that’s not so odd.
g’nite nahant drive safe and have fun
Hey y’all…
i’ve met a handful of same day diff year but only the one same day same year. turns out he was born 2 hours ahead of me but was central time zone and i was east coast so he was really only 1 hour older. (edit) and yup, 1954
hey that guy – what’s your summer song?
That’s mine too, and I didn’t even grow up back East. And Red Rubber Ball.
Goodnight, Nahant.
Someone mentioned Joni Mitchell? Here she is doing I’m A Radio at Red Rock:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQg4mHfwL5w
hey margot
That’s funny.
I did meet a guy once who was born in the same hospital I was, either a month earlier or a month later, can’t remember now.
Oh, Suzanne. That makes my night. I have that on my iPhone. Used to listen to that song all the time.
“Save up all your bread and fly Trans-World Airways…” what a plug, eh?
Evenings in the Haight, Golden Gate Park… what a magical time and place. My folks used to let me just wander into the city on weekends and come home whenever I wanted, as long as it didn’t get much later than midnight or so.
In nursing school I had a room mate who summer song was “Bill” … I was so tired of it by fall…
That’s one of the first pop songs I remember learning all the words to. The other was Purple People Eater.
Nahant, yeah the Animals!
(laughing) my dad was career navy so we moved a lot – hard to find folks born at portsmouth naval hospital portsmouth va on the west coast
my pleasure jofish… was surprised no one had played that one yet.
tis a magical song about a magical time.
hello all. dropping by on my way to bed. (((((katymine)))) girl, i am so glad you’re up and about and eating.
i went to the store tuesday and saw a sofa table i liked that was really nice and really inexpensive but it had a hold on it til end of day wednesday for someone named wendy. out hiking with friends this morning, i called from down in the creek at 10 am and the clerk said it was gone. when i got back home, i drove over anyway at noon and it was there! the clerk was incorrect. and now it lives at my house.
it didn’t look good behind the sofa, but a friend suggested another part of the living room and it looks great. as a result, i had to move the bookcase that was in that spot. now the bookcase is behind the sofa. i’ve been spending the day rearranging a couple of bookcases and books and decorating and unpacking paintings. i love making things look pretty.
been doing some other stuff to make the yard nice and make the back patio even more comfortable. got another end table and put a couple of lamps out there. there’s a wednesday night class at my house every week and it was cool enough for a change for us to be out on the back patio.
i’ve missed you guys.
That is a lot of moving – but I must say, the hospital in question was in West Virginia, and the meeting was in Indiana. Not quite the same distance, admittedly, but enough to seem notable. At the time, anyway. (After all, there just aren’t that many people born in WVa compared to some states, population has never been very dense there)
I think if you’ve spent much time in a city in summer, it probably is very evocative.
hey gw – spring cleaning? or getting ready for the holiday weekend?
Greenwarrior! Welcome back! We’re having music nostalgia night, if you haven’t had time to read all the posts.
there aint no cure for the…
Not sure if it was a “summertime” song, except well it sort of got more famous as the result of that little party on Max Yasgur’s farm. CSN, and their tribute to Judy Collins(?).
The harmony is incredible. I have seen CSN (no Neil) a few times over the years, and they never fail to transport me back.
I can see that happening. It’s a good song, and a good performance, but something about the vocals wears after a while. That would be particularly true if I had to listen to it several times a day.
by the time we got to woodstock
we were half a million strong…
tis a great summer song but i’m partial to woodstock myself
Finally got San Franciscan Nights” to play – JoFish – listen again – that’s “fly Trans-Love-Airways”
Ah, the summer of love, 1967. You lived there, huh? I wanted to go, but my parents wouldn’t let me. *g*
It varies. I’ll have to go through Youtube and find it. I promise it’s a “getcherassdowntheroad” song.
hi girl! i was just listening to one of nahant’s picks – the animals doing House of the Rising Sun. knocked my sox off.
I haven’t heard the Blue Cheer version of that song in forever. It’s so chaotic – as though they get through each verse and then forget what song they’re playing.
*laughing* i have no doubt
OK, I done found it. With the great Steve Gaines on the Fender Stratocaster.
I drank a lot of Jack that summer. Summer I turned 22.
Tejan, you are kidding me right? I’ve been listening to that song wrong for 40+ years? -g-
And since we’re doing the Bay Area, how about this One-Hit Wonder for a Summer of Love song? ;-)
tis a great song that guy – lynard did a great cover of that jj cale tune and made it their own.
Oh, lord—THAT was the song I sang aaaaaall the time in those days. Lurve that song.
Right now listening to this–
“in her hand a bottle of liebfraumilch”…..
Whatever happened to Blue Nun, and Mateus, and hmmm, what else did we drink in those days to feel sophisticated? LOL
that was one of those songs my mom liked – so i had to automatically dislike it at the time.
strawberry hill wine from boones farm?
that’s sweet!
Steve Gaines was a monster. Had they all lived, HE would have led LS.
Check this out.
Sho got that right!
And yeah, JJ wrote a great song, but LS really made it come alive.
Tooo funny, no?
Listen, with all that great music all around you, did you and your friends wast your time turning up the stereo to play the Kingsmen, “Louie, Louie” over and over again to hear the alleged “dirty” parts?
Not Summer, but another classic…
And I love Joni Mitchell. Was madly in love with her in college. LOL! This song is such a great driving song, summer with the sunroof open, the windows down and the wind blasting just below the level of the song.
I’m heading for bed…… nite everyone
g’nite katy
Ahh – it’s about time someone brought that one up. Made me wanna to grab a guitar and head out to the highway with my thumb out.
But I would never have had the nerve to actually DO it.
at the time, i had no idea how much the music of my youth would stay with me through my adulthood.
a bit of spring cleaning, but mostly it was the cascade effect from moving the bookcase from where it was to put the new “sofa” table there. once i put the bookcase behind the sofa, then all the books in it had to go – it’s now the first thing you see when you walk into the living room and i wanted something prettier than books in it. and mostly it was cook books and i wanted them closer to the kitchen. one thing led to another to another and to another. all because i went into that store originally looking for a throw rug for the kitchen.
big yellow taxi
road trip!
heading to Pasadena for the weekend. logging driving hours for student driver punaisette.
which ya did not get (lmao) i have so been there

woohoo – hey pun – headed to a graduation or mini-vacation?
hey emerson – great tune
Goodnight, katymine.
Boy, no kidding. Nothing like music to evoke the visual memory of where you were, what you were doing, is there?
Boy, this has been great. Almost as good as meditation (which I’ve never quite mastered, actually).
I’m heading off to bed, too. Night katymine, that guy, JoFish, Greenwarrior, Suzanne, and anybody I’ve missed.
And Suzanne, thanks for starting this nostalgia party off. Fun.
(And come October, I’ll try to remember to offer you some virtual birthday cake on our mutual day!)
family get-away to see some old friends, visit UCLA, etc.
g’nite tejan
Uh-unh… I was too busy listening to and this, and this, and this and this. Check out Tommy Smothers doing the intro to the last one.
I had no time for The Kingsmen…LOL!
sounds like fun pun. pun jr also going?
Nite, KatyMine
morrison hotel/hard rock cafe is my #1 desert island album. i’ve worn out the album (which i still have) the 8 track (no longer have), the cassette and cd. love listening to that album from start to finish.
One last comment – love that utube of California Dreaming – all those winter scenes mixed w/ beach scenes — that’s exactlly what that song evokes for me. It came out when I was still in Indiana’s snows, and I still see snow in my mind’s eye the minute I hear the first chords. [big sigh]. Love that song.
Oh, forgot to say I did get the temp job, bilingual test scoring, I was going in for the other day. It’s only for a few weeks, but a few weeks of work and pay is much better than the same few weeks with neither, n’est pas?
Now, going off to sleep for real. Night all. buenas noches a todos los perrocitos de fuego!
8 guys renting out a house at the Jersey shore right before Sr year of HS, Must have played Who’s Next 500 times that week. Then hearing about this guy Bruce playing the Stone Pony down Rte. 35.
At 18 years old!
yes emerson. that is fun!
woohoo and sleep well
like this?
buenos noches tejanarusa. buenos suenos. feel free to correct my spanish any time.
Nite Tejan…thanks for the chat… Suzanne just needs to remember that I love to hijack these threads…hehehe
Here’s some drifting off muzik for you…
(laughing) like i don’t hijack my own threads
i love trading utubes late late at nite. it is very soothing and makes me laugh and smile and brings back all kinda good memories – helps erase the assorted horrors of the day and ends the day on a good note as far as i am concerned.
a very good thing :)
awesome selections. i was over in israel and friends brought over those albums. played them over and over and over and over……..
Only 500 times?
Did that Bruce guy ever get famous or anything?
hey jo – if ya ever find a canned heat/chambers bros utube of them doing hellhound with john lee hooker, let me know wudja :)
This from Small Faces is in my summer song list.
I worked in FM radio off-and-on (back when it was called AOR) and we used to actually play some cuts that were not top-40. Top 40 shit got played at your own peril… the listeners would cut you up (figuratively) for playing anything remotely close to T-40.
Traffic to Medford? OR is the slowest the guy at the gas station has seen.
Traffic is still bad though.
holy shit – i remember this – had the 45 and played it over and over and over
hey things – you headed south?
Thankfully the many road construction projects were not filled with workers today. Comfort inn has a nice net connection no pass word no hooking up the phone line I did have to visit a hotel site but the connection is good.
Yep Sister is getting married in a week so I decided to drive down.
Here’s a summer song from high school, Suze. I was the biggest fan they ever had. I once met Pete T. Changed my life. I’ll email you about it.
way kewl – traffic guy on the pdx news said that it looked like a lotta folks were making a 4 day weekend of it. traffic headed outta town was fierce.
yes, we’re swinging through Santa Cruz to pick him up.
have a good one, all!
my fav who tune. love that song
g’nite and safe journey pun – and have fun
Comfort inn has a pool fridge and microwave I hope my pizza is ok I always over pack the food HBO and comedy central watching Green Day on Colbert report.
santa cruzing
I used to run the “King Biscuit Flour Hour” on Sunday nights, and they did an interview with Bob Seger who attributed the bridge in Night Moves to Jungleland. Awesome…
Seger… doesn’t it make you wanna just get in the car? LOL
come to papa
Yeah, JUST like that. And another nite there, I coulda sworn it sounded just like this. Miami Steve Van Zandt was there, too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ3amVBypEk
dang – that musta been one hella summer emerson.
OMG Margot…. I forgot the Small Faces it. Classic!
I wonder how much Bush has influenced music of all types? The MSM has been missing that story. I wonder how much its helping us with the youth vote?
If the GOP ever gets a clue they might stop caring about Liberal bias in the news and get some GOP music groups and Comedy Central shows kids watch.
After about 500 times, the album’s a bit scratchy.
Yeah, I think that Bruce guy pissed off Clear Channel and was never heard from again. I might have that last part wrong, though.
And Guantanamera, from hearing it on Smothers Brothers.
“KYA Radio, 1260!”
“KEWB. Channel 91 Sports ScoreBOARD!”
“KFRCCCCCCCC!”

There were more, I forget . . .

Hey Jo, good to see you. I get all distracted and lost in YouTube land. I feel like I need a GPS system or breadcrumbs or something.;)
Things, every time the un-hipster GoOPers tried to rip off a good song, they got their collective peepees whacked. So they ended up with Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood, whose collective appeal is Branson, MO… on a good day.
I forget what songs the GoOPers tried to get, but they didn’t have much success with music as a method of appealing to anyone outside of country-music fans.
hey larue
that one’s got me up dancing – hard to type and dance -
Hey, Margot. It’s been a while. Been hitting the Ice Cream place?
One ton of mayo, I need one ton of mayo …
Ya know Suz, I think that was the best one. At 18-as it should be! And my birthday was the day before your “Malo” vid was recorded. lol
tom campbell – that’s the top of the hill dood.. thanks larue
One of my Faves, GW. There’s a lot of Seger that I like, it’s great driving music.
too bad we didn’t know it at the time how they were the best of times
I agree but without Music without Comedy Central the GOP will lose the next generation of young voters.
That and kids watching the Daily Show being better informed on the issues than their Fox News watching parents must be undoing all the GOP propaganda Fox News does with older voters.
Kids love to contradict their parents as I recall.
It’s about time for me to head off to dreamland. I found my favorite version of “House Of The Rising Sun”, BTW:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t40INnb6DnY
Interesting if you’re into distorted guitar. According to the Wikipedia entry, they recorded this song because they still had a little unused time at a recording studio. Good thing they did, or no one would have remembered Frijid Pink.
Goodnight, all. Glad I could get caught up a little.
g’nite cujo
Little Pink Houses and Barricuda come to mind.
Tom Campbell on KYA? Along with Chrisy Edwards? I remember listening to this too the first time on that station… FZ doing doo-wop in 1968, I think.
Hah! Well, the other 7 guys liked it , too, Jo! An old gf took me to see Bruce about a year and a half ago at Oakland Coliseum. Said she’s going and I was the only one she would go with. I think she heard the CDs a few times too!
Yeah…I think you’re right, Cujo. Definately Barricuda, Heart was pissed, but they managed to license it legally for use. Don’t remember Pink Houses…I think Mellencamp would have burned down the venue before letting them play that, it’s kind of one of his trademarks.
Sleep well, my friend.
yup, tom campbell on kya. used to listen to him – loved his schtick and tunage (and it came in well on my transitor radio)
George Soros in the book club soon we are attracting talent.
I bet somewhere deep, we did. It’s sure comin back right now, though.
That’s one of the things you do Suzanne- Look at this party you’re throwin!
Anyone going to Netroots Nation this summer?
i’m just the host = ya’ll are doing all the heavy lifting putting quarters into the jukebox
Transistor radios, sigh, there’s a memory. iPods. heh.
not gonna make it this year. :( every year i say next year for sure but… gonna have to say that again this year
GW-listened to Seger from Pennsylvania to KC the 1st time I drove cross-country. That was some great summer driving music!
I wonder if Obama will declassify the Valerie Palme stuff and I wonder if Fitz can refile charges against Scooter and go after Cheney now?
I wonder if Obama is serious about letting GM face bankruptcy?
Why them and not the banks? They actually make stuff.
How about this? Crosses out of the 60s, but still… think the Temps did it first, so this is a cover, but a good one.
“Beatniks and Politics” (no peeking, whose lyric?) LOL… a little game.
nice! didn’t curtis mayfield also cover that song?
You got that right. Pretty soon I was using half-dollars tied to the stylus!
goes hand in hand with itchyco park
Chris Edwards . . . wow, there’s a name this San Matean forgot all about . . . Dang! *G*
i’m going to keep that in mind for the next time i have to drive anywhere.

Loves me old Smokey And Miracles . . . *G*

Oh, yeah GW. Seger is definately great driving music. Done coast-to-coast a couple of times with him.
Larue, I saw Smokey Bill Robinson a few years ago… still performs so well. It was a short set, but really really good.
In keeping with the theme of summer music (that I have done my damndest to derail –apologies–) here’s a summer classic for me. I was driving west to San Diego in the Summer of 76, in my blue, 1975 Datsun B210 hatchback across the Utah desert in the evening and on comes this song. Wow. Right at sunset in the desert.
Thanks, Eagles. I can’t sit out on a warm evening without that memory flooding back when I listen to Hotel California.
Heh, too kewl. Us DFH’s has us some fun . . . didn’t we. *G*
I know I did . . . *G* To be able to say you were THERE, man, is kinda kewl . . . still . . .
Even if we were only 14, 15 or so by ‘67 . . . .
One of my still fav albums ever was Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, with Signe Toly Anderson, not Gracie.
Folkrock, and Marty Balin, Signe, and Paul Cantor just killin three part harmonies.
And Jorma killin lead work before it was popular . . . Jack Cassidy thumpn (he played with James Brown, he knew his stuff even then) and Spencer Dryden (before he went to Moby Grape).,
And that album was all OVER the AM Radio, transistor, yes, I lived with them in my ears back then . . *G*
Good timuh!!! *G*
I’m outta here, been a GREAT read and fun reply . . . thanks Pups, one and all, music, it’s the shizzle!!!! *G*
hotel california is a great tune – i love the acoustic version from their hell freezes over tour
g’nite larue
Nite Larue…nice to meet another Flower Child on here. :P
Yeah, I like the acoustic version better too. That one I linked to has an interesting intro… :)
Freshman year -Emerson College, Boston-I’m ushering at the Boston Music Hall. I loved Yes and had seen them alot. They were touring with this band none of us had heard of called the Eagles. Seems like a strange pairing now.
By the time the Eagles left the stage, we forgot Yes was even coming out. And then they kicked azz!
yeah, not heard it with a horn intro before…..
that where the emerson moniker comes from?
That’s too cool. The Eagles and Yes? Far Fucking Out as the kids used to say…LOL! What did they play? Early stuff or later (mid-70s/Joe Walsh)?
I can’t imagine going from the Eagles to this in one night. I hope no mind-altering drugs were involved. ;P
Yes. Although I was only there a year. I’m pretty creative, except when it comes to things like thinking of good handles. Real name is Michael, but there’s alot of those.
back in the day, bill graham used to love to do odd pairings for concerts – like the grateful dead and the beachboys on one of his day on the greens
guess that means you are not from emerson lake and palmer
Suze, I was just linking to this when you said that… hehe. Great minds and all!
As usual, can’t remember if I was high. *g*
That was real early Eagles-like Peaceful Easy Feeling days. Yes had just released their 3rd album (I think) Had “Heart of the Sunrise” and everyone was already sick of “Roundabout”
My two fave bassists Were Chris Squires (Yes) and John Entwhistle (Who). They both played bass like lead.
lmao jo fish
Love that song, From “Pictures at an Exhibition”, right?
welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
fron the beginning was from trilogy per wiki
yikes… look at the time. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight pups.

Yikes! It’s 4:14 AM here. heehehehe…

Yeah, me too… but it’s been fun hanging with you all. How about this to go off to bed? LOL…
Nytol…
Hah!George Clinton is the Funk! You’re wild, Jo. Nice meeting you.
You too… sleep well!
wow … got home from work a bit ago and what a nice treat for unwinding on my “friday” night. Wonderful songs that bring back memories, thanks to everyone who put quarters in the jukebox. Heh. (And i’m old enough to remember my grandpa giving us money to put in the “nickelodeon” and how embarrassed we were that he didn’t call it a “jukebox.”)
as busted would say, g’thud! *waves on the way to bed*
