Scientists have unveiled a 47-million-year-old fossilised skeleton of a monkey hailed as the missing link in human evolution.
The search for a direct connection between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom has taken 200 years – but it was presented to the world today at a special news conference in New York.
Now, I’m just guessing that the reporter in this story for Sky News (Rupert!) may be adding a bit to the findings ("missing link in human evolution" — drama major buddy?) , but there was still was something truly stunning and little reported.
It was found holding what appeared to be teabags.
(note: In comments GOPnot4me links to PZ Myers explanation of the actual importance of the find.)

Bad time at the polls tonight, see the post at my place.
Mornin’, pups -
Tea’s my beverage of choice (iced Southern sweet with a twist of lemon, please) but if the thugs keep promoting these bloody t-bag parties, I’m gonna be forced to start using the loose variety. :-(
Citizen Waccamaw:
Maybe Long Island Tea would help ya handle the teabagger shit …
Hi, Norske -
Tried something once that was so labeled (maybe just a bad batch or poor recipe) but it was a desecration of the plain ol’ sans alcohol variety.
Hi, Norske -
Tried something once so labeled (maybe a bad batch or poor recipe) and it was nasty stuff. If I’m gonna drink booze, I don’t want it masquerading around as my southern regional beverage. *g*
Spit. That attempt at an “edit” went really well. :-((
Teabaggiccus is definitively a member of the Vulpes genus.
WHEN I used to drink and bartend we’d drink “matt shooters”. Take the mixing mat on the bar and drain it into a glass. Pretty classy huh?
“It was found holding what appeared to be teabags.”
Thus lending support to theories of …evolution? … time travel? … both, maybe?
Citizen Raven:
I haven’t had a drink in 20 years years so maybe I don’t remember so good…but I don’t think I was ever as hard corps as to lick the bar down…but then again there might be a few moments there that…
Whut’s a mixin’ mat? As you can tell, bars are not where I go to hang out. Sounds like an example of “waste not, want not”. *g*
Black mats with little stubs that keep the glass up out of the mess!
Yea Norkse, I’m close to 15 years my damn self.
Everyone read about the AF Major being drummed out under DADT?
Thanks Attaturk. Looks like the folks at Google think it’s great!
Good morning all.
And Raven, that whole mix-mat thing; bleeeghhh.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Firepup Freedom Fighters:
well, gunna start gettin’ busy aroubnd here, bowel and bladder time, so I’ll check back in and get my CQ orders later….SIX MORE SHIFTS AND A WAKEUP!!
Holy cow! Tea bags????? Michael Steele was right yesterday! The republicans have evolved and are turning the corner! One has been found. Awwwwwwwww, how cute.
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo all alone today. The Moustache of Wisdom is off. MoDo’s piece of fiction today is called “Cheney Grabs a Third Term,” in which she gurgles that the two best infighters in Washington history are set on controlling the Boy Wonder. But will it be easier than bossing the Boy Emperor?
Here she is.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins that just popped out of the toaster. It’s still gray this morning, but not quite as grim and wet. It still doesn’t feel like May, though. Have a great day.

Too much info!
Shrinking faster than Andrew Sullivan’s h*rdon for Obama:
Ruth Marcus’ column – the place where Washington Post circulation figures go to die.
Morning pups. For once it’s not raining here in Paris. Been a wet spring. Another holiday coming up tomorrow – Ascension. Hard to get work done in May with all the days off: May Day, Liberation Day (VE), and Ascension of the Virgin Day. People here live well.
Now that I see the thing, I’m with oldnslow – “Bleeeghhh!”
I don’t get how the cases are coming to light, if no one is asking and no one is telling.
Much as I hate linking to the twits, ap pretty well nails reid:

Cute puppy, although why the WaPoo wants a column about it beats me. At least she’s not writing fevered fiction, like MoDo.
Since I can’t watch vids on-line, glad I caught him on Rachel last night…..very impressive gentleman.
Citizen Raven:
Strack, straight up soldier…I think Obama’s gunna hafta confront his fears of the dinosauer brass and jest pull the plug on the whole thing…let the bastards cry for more troops when they’re cuttin’ their best talent back into the world.
Thank you ‘Turk! I needed that!
Gawd. Reid and the CIA have the same memory and ‘facts’. *rolling eyes*
Will be in France in several days to enjoy that good life. Then looking forward to taking the TGV to Torino.
What is Obama legally able to do? Can he issue an exec order and end DODT? If the answer is ‘yes’ than shame on him for not doing so. I think he’d be applauded for it by the vast majority of Americans.
Don’t you love the argument that rescinding DODT will hurt the military? How exactly? Because then we’d have gays in the army? Hello, there already are gays in the military. Purging them is what’s hurting us.
Citizen solai:
Yes…he could end the policy with an order but politically he risks a revolt of the Generals…I think he should just issue the order and sack any brass that disobey…Obama’s a good poker player, it’s time for him to use those skills call their bluff and fire the bastards if they disobey…we have had far too much military for far too long in this country…time to whip those bastards into shape…the brass ,I mean.
Exactly Solai!
I would still be interested to know how, after 18 years, the Lt.Colonel’s case came to light at this time, if it is just as illegal to “ask” as it is to “tell.” Wouldn’t any investigation intended to discover sexual orientation be counter to the policy and wouldn’t those conducting it be subject to discipline?
Every unit I was in 66-69 had gay troopers. Didn’t mean shit to the “mission”.
Yea, I think LT Choi decided on his own but they didn’t say on this case.
How can that fossil be 47 million years old ?
The earth is only 5 thousand years old /s
Since 1987, when Fehrenbach entered Notre Dame on a full Air Force ROTC scholarship
The author of these words?
Having gays in the military will hurt the military just like having gays living next door would hurt us and corrupt our children. LOL
I served with gays in the USAF ,we all knew who was gay and nobody gave a rats ass !!!
Hint: Hermann Goering.
I woulda guessed Dick Cheney !
Exactly. And it’s flat too. ;-)
Obama knows that the U.S. is a war culture. The modern version of ancient Sparta. Must always defer to the military.
“Missing link” is a bogus term. We already have a rock-solid link that connects us to every form of life on the planet: DNA. Claims of “missing links” normally come from creations. Given us and a fossil (say, “Lucy”) that we believe to be an ancestor of humans, they complain that there’s a “missing link”. If a new fossil is found that is half way in between (let’s call him Sam), whoops, now there are two missing links: one between us and Sam, one between Sam and Lucy.
Next time you encounter a creationist, tell him or her about retroviruses (HIV is the best known example). Retroviruses are called that because they work backwards, turning their RNA into DNA. They can wire their own DNA directly into the DNA that’s in a cell nucleus. When they do this to a sperm cell or an egg cell, all the descendents wind up with viral DNA in every cell of their body, and it looks very different from mammal DNA. It gets inserted at a random place (there’s lots of room because we have so much junk DNA), so you can tell the difference between “infected by the same virus” and “descendents of the same infected individual”. Guess what? These viral DNA markers, indicating an infected ancestor, appear in both human and chimpanzee DNA, providing rock-solid proof, in every cell in our bodies, that a common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees was infected, because several markers show up at the exact same position.
That’s rock-solid proof. The only out that the creationists have is to claim that God deliberately created false evidence (and some do just this).
