Do-dooo-dooo-do. Do-doo. Do-doo.
"The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is now officially over,” Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, told state party chairmen today at an assembly at a Potomac Riverfront convention center.
"We have turned the corner on regret, recrimination, self-pity and self-doubt,” Steele said.
"The second turning point for our party is this. We are going to take the president head-on. The honeymoon is over,” he said, addressing President Barack Obama’s popularity, an "Obama phenomenon” which the GOP should no longer fear. "The two-party system is making a comeback, and that comeback starts today.”
Since "the honeymoon" consisted of party-line rejection of pretty much everything Obama does, while calling him the "Democrat Socialist" Messiahitler, I can’t wait to see this new "head-on" approach.
"We’re going to take this president on with class. We’re going to take this president on with dignity,” he said, deriding the "classless and shabby way” that Democrats challenged former President George W. Bush.
And for the classy way to take on presidents, see Cheney, Dick; Bachmann, Michelle; DeMint, Jim; Chambliss, Saxby; Limbaugh, Rush, etc., etc.

change in a teabag?
Steele is low man on the scrotum pole.
He won’t last the summer.
So Steele isn’t going to apologize to Limpballs anymore?
Wow that was a short honeymoon for him as head of the RNC!
Oh wait. He’s talking about how the Rs apologize for the last eight years? What apologies? All I ever see is more and more of the R “leaders” doubling down on the bad hand and going further into the hole.
They call their opposition the honeymoon of civilty….just like any others who may be psychotic or abusive. No wonder these people are dangerous. I heard a bit of Laura Ing. this morning. I thought most of her criticism and contempt was directed at “socialist/democrats”. This morning it was against a school program teaching against bullying. She just musters up that same voice of ridicule and tone of hopeless, erroneous, stupid about anything that does not fit her narrow litany. She probably believes that she and Sean, along with sinister, not-dead eye have all offered a honeymoon. Gee, what a nightmare
WTF? He doesn’t listen much to himself, does he? Never mind the other usual suspects named above.
“Honeymoon.” Hunh.
Sounds like Mr. Steele’s getting help from RedState to do his new initiatives/building the ginormous conservo-political thingy announcements.
So RedState should also get the RNC
coffee mugtea cup concession, if it doesn’t exceed his signing authority. Was trying to remember the most recent stupid thing he’d said – found it—no global warming because Greenland is now icy, when it was once green – “it was named Greenland for a reason, right?”
I would have liked to see more pointing out of the fact that Greenland was called that BECAUSE it has always been ice-covered – by the Vikings who wanted to encourage settlement there.
No different from calling a below-sea-level piece of Florida swampland Palmetto Hills. Real estate promotion hasn’t changed in more than a thousand years.
Why does anyone take him seriously?
But then, of course, why does anyone take Laura Ingraham or Newt Gingrich seriously? And why isn’t Gingrich’s name always prefaced with “disgraced former Speaker?”
Ted Kennedy’s cancer in remission…only good news I’ve heard today.
Raising a glass o’iced green tea to the Lion of the Senate.
Let ‘em hear you roar, Teddy.
Steele also said the rethugs would become the party of ideas. Hey I got a new idea lets say no.
Sure Steele.
The sky is always greener in Bizzaro Land.
As long as you are defending torture there is no hope for class and dignity.
Did Steele get permission from Limbaugh to make an official announcement?
Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago.
Bernard Berenson (1865 – 1959)
such kabuki. So diverting to jeer at the idiotic japes of (R) clowns.
but, what is it that that directing attention on these faux hysterics diverts from?
Maybe from the kind of thing Glenn Greenwald has the courage and integrity to keep writing about, which is that the Obama admin and the Cheney admin might as well be married and on honeymoon together, they have so much in common!
why this focus on and pushback against laughable RNC talking points directed at their low-information base? It’s political junk food, Cheez-its.
but its so much easier to dawdle with the Cheez-its than to look at what your Progressive Leader is putting on the plate for you: gristly torture cover-ups and extension on Bush State secrets claims, and maybe 95 dead Afghan children for a main course!
bon appetit!

Kinda-sorta, Tejana.
The Vikings named Greenland that because they wanted to encourage settlement there. However, the world was going through a warm spell and Greenland was habitable (not too hospitable, but habitable) during that settlement phase.
Then the Little Ice Age hit, and Greenland was uninhabitable (not to mention seriously inhospitable). All through both phases, Iceland was both habitable and fairly hospitable (if you don’t mind 22 hour nights in the winter. I do.) The Vikings knew that the carrying capacity of Iceland was miniscule (especially by comparison with Greenland), and so they came up with misleading names.
But you’re absolutely on-point about real estate advertising.
Classless and shabby? Uh oh. I better put on a tie and jacket for the next pitchfork mob.
It seems unlikely, Mike.
“We have turned the corner on regret, recrimination, self-pity and self-doubt,”
The street they turned down has a sign almost immediately visible to anyone wanting to look, on both sides mind you.
It says, “Dead End”
Michael’s Republicans have had 8 years (30, really) in which to screw things and people over. He thinks he’s going to be able to stop non-apologizing after just a couple of months?
Start puckering up, is all i have to say. I Hope he uses lip gloss
Michael Steele has a new idea – lets lower taxes.
just checkin’ in to say—-matthews is tearin’ him up…
m.c.steele, he’s a-makin’ me rhyme—

he’s cree-py, he’s a ‘turd-y’…

‘mc’steele’s 1-2 big-punch finish from the above link…….wow. fizzle.
“Republicans are getting about the business of America’s future, because our vision for America is far different than what the president and Congressional Democrats have shown thus far. And I fear the Democrats are just getting started.”
Michael Steele is chairman of the Republican National Committee.
here’s my rap(t) response–
mc steele wanna be a ‘repub’ maker
tellin’ the boys ’bout all the repub cake’a
he don’t wanna be the man to place no blame
he wan evry body to just play the game–
point the finga at everybody else
make it look like it was their choice
make em afraid, make em think twice
don’t look back-that wouldn’t be nice.
say anything just like’a mike tyson
you didn’t mean to hit your lady last night’a

uoompachucka uoompachucka uoompachucka oooom….
upchuck.
For the rich.
And the part I forgot b/c too tacky….attacking Larry King for his panel on the Farrah docu. She ridiculed him so badly it was painful/cruel calling him everything but dead himself. Shameless, just like Rush mocking Michael Fox…Class, Im telling yo.
This must be Steele’s last option. Then what bit of nonsense?
Too bad the press doesn’t have better things to do.
This obsession that progressive sites have with Steele is confusing and boring. Wake me up when you get back to some substance.
Man (and Woman) do not live solely to decry all the nastiness in the world.
A little comic relief is never remiss as we go through and deal with life’s absurdities.
And you forgot to give us your “harumph harumph” to punctuate your dissatisfaction.
“Classless, shabby way…?” Goddamn! Put me right at the front of that line! I think I came up with more names for Preznit Missing Village Idiot than anyone in America, and had fun doing it. In all the years I blogged at DemVet, I never but once or twice called him by name.
So bring it, Steele you second-rate former Lt Governor, who can’t even get your own party to let you do any more than be a finger-puppet for the old, rich, white guys and Rush when he’s not making fun of you.
Oh, and in all the years I’ve been watching politics, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as classy as those “Liberal Hunting Licenses” the GoOPer fucktards delight in selling. Stay classy, Baby it’s doing so well for you now.
Idiot.
Will Farrell has nothing on this guy. Will running around in his underwear – it’s funny because it hurts to watch.
Steele spraying this infatile jibberish – it just hurts.
Keep it up GOP- the more you talk the more you remove all doubt.
I suggest Astroglide.
This jerk keeps ranting the so-called “core values” of the Republican Party. If the ‘patriot act’ and ‘military commissions act’ (the actual list is damned near endless) are “core values” of the Republican Party – I’M DAMNED GLAD I’M AN INDEPENDENT!
This idiot is caught up in the SOCIALIST band wagon of “the past eight years” … while totally ignoring the PREVIOUS “eight years” when the Democrats sold out the United States work force … following their orders just like every administration has since the coup de’etat of John Kennedy in Dallas.
I was raised a Democrat, became a Republican, and they BOTH have made a hard-core Constitutionalist out of me! Every word out of either’s mouth incites me to work for the opposition.
Colonel Robert F. Cunningham,
The Akurians.
It’s continuously amazing to watch these loons commit self-flagellation, in public, as the rest of us watch by gasping for breath between the un-controllable laughing spasms they inflict almost daily upon the masses… It just continues to prove you can’t make this stuff up…especially in Steele’s case… Where does the GOP find these folks?
I do guess by just looking around on one’s daily journey thru this craziness we call life, there are examples every where..BUT it does seem these folks crowd together more so than not… hhuummm…..
Steele and the rest of the lost in space GOP team should try real hard to understand.
By saying they oppose Obama. They are trying to say they are oposed to one man. Yet this one man (Obama) has nearly 70 to 80 percent of the country with a favorable opinion of the President. Besides, the GOP alreaady oppose everything under the sun. Bush’s TARP was OK to vote for by republicans, Obama’s TARP II was BAD.
Steele has only made a public announcement of a prior GOP public announcement. Sure, he and the GOP has put on display their actions of the party of “only HELL no”.
I really enjoyed Steele’s part in his speech where he espouses that he ended the GOP appologies and turning the page.
Did we miss the GOP APPOLOGIES ?
