Olbermann tonight:
And journalist Marcy Wheeler points out, according to the CIA Congressman Porter Goss got a briefing on March 8, 2005, even though he was not only no longer a congressman at the time, he was the Director of the CIA.
Thanks for the h/t Keith, and in that same spirit, we would like to acknowledge William Ockham who pointed that out in Marcy’s comments.
But Marcy has, quite frankly, pwned Goss from the start over this. Her CIA Comedy of Briefing List Errors has been one of the most important tools Democrats have had in order to push back against the GOP and their attempts to destroy Nancy Pelosi and tar the all Democrats with their own torture culpability.
We’d love to get the Marcy Wheeler fund over a hundred thousand. To everyone who has already given, many thanks — not only is Marcy being paid, but she’s already using the money to travel and do research, and we’re trying to build a timeline program for her that can dynamically display her fabulous timelines to full effect.
So thanks to Keith, thanks to William Ockham, and thanks to Marcy. If you’d like to support her work and help her get over $100,000, you can give here.

(((Marcy & Jane!!!!)))
Marcy Wheeler makes mincemeat of the GOP once again.
And Matt!
Waiting for the MSM to react to the Journalist Marcy Wheeler!?
Now that’s a sound bite I can get into. My dog Molly, with one ear raised, caught it, too.
I can’t wait for the Howard Kurtz column this week .. decrying Olbermann calling Marcy a journalist
Yay Marcy!
Not difficult these days as they seem bent on cannibalizing themselves.
I’m glad to see Marcy getting more of the credit she deserves.
Please tell me CIA did not brief a Georgia O’Keefe painting.
How are the Poodles?
I’m just glad that KO picked this up. WO has been hitting it for weeks. And maybe now, when I call the CIA to find out whether they want to admit that Goss did the briefing here, they’ll return my call.
“Hey CIA, I got a couple more embarrassing bits about your damn list, you want to return my call or just go straight to KO laughing in your face?”
I got so many emails over that one. Everyone heard it.
You can expect a rousing chorus of “La la la, we can’t hear you!”
Even if they would do their jobs, they are light years behind this work.
Way to go, Marcy.
All right Jane I will give again. I will match the next $60.
Poodles are great. The house is buzzing with activity these days, lots of guests and people working here, and they like that. More attention than if they have to wait for me to stop staring at a computer screen.
Oh, Jane! I gave what I could. Soon.
This is such a good use of our dollars.
Yeah Mike! I will match $20 of that, if two more will give $20 each.
BTW Republican Senate Majority leader Harry Reid has followed the House and has removed $80 million in funds to close Guantanamo from the war supplemental. More change we can’t believe in.

Mincemeat was always my fav!
Thank you, Loo Hoo. I know you did and we really appreciate it.
yay, thanks fh Mike.
I’m tapped out, but with you in spirit.
Congrats, Marcy and WO.

OT-ish, but EPU’d at Marcy’s:
I said:
Jane -
That chart in the u-tube thingie……did Marcy do that or is it something Countdown came up with?
This is great news, and it’s great work by Marcy and all at FDL.
A laurel and hardy handshake to all!
Dammit, Hugh! I’m just not fast enough.
Rachel was on this tonight. See me at #21.
Oh, and her opening with another senseless casualty of Don’t ask, Don’t tell was fabulous, too.
Change we can believe in? Make that “Plus ca change, believe it!”
Funny Wheelie Diva
I will kick-in $40.
No, but it’s a pretty good graphic, isn’t it. Would be good for dynamic documents.
Another $20 into the pot.
Yeah Matt!
I’m off to make my donation, too.
On Gitmo $ . . .
1)There’s NO plan in place to CLOSE Gitmo, just a handful of mumbled promises.
2)If Congress approves the money, it disappears, and Gitmo is still open.
3) I think Congress is calling a bluff, and I think it’s the right thing to do.
Do I have that wrong? (defers to those who know)
Oh, hey, maybe Keef would appreciate knowing that we noticed?
I think it’s just countdown @ msnbc.com
Just a thought…

Support for Marcy: I’m in.
I think your 3 may be an accurate outcome, but the evidence that they’re serious about a solution is pretty thin, IMO. Sounded way more like Pout-rage to me.

Keith called it right. We need to start making some distinctions. Bloggers who do original research, who do the legwork of plowing through documents or contacting sources to find out what the story is (like Marcy or Josh Marshall), are journalists. Many other bloggers are not journalists but are instead opinion writers. Maybe it’s time we stopped using the same word for both categories, just as we don’t lump print journalists, novelists, poets, and essayists into one category called “paperer” because they all produce words on paper.
Well, it seems they could appropriate the money to draw up the plan, at least. [And promise to fully fund a good plan.]
I am happy and willing to donate my time and experience in software engineering and interactive media, which also includes integrating disparate tools, to Marcy and Firedoglake in thanks for the wonderful work being done to expose the misdeeds of our government. Be that helping with custom development, or finding existing tools to accomplish the immediate task and subsequently tying the content in with the blog software.
Matched
Thank you for gitt’n us going this evening!
Nobody took me up on a match offer the other day but I’m sending another $183. anyway; check in the mail tomorrow.
Emptywheel Rising!
Congratulations on the Shout Out from KO, Marcy!
For those who haven’t had a chance to read it, yet, here’s EW’s Salon Article: The 13 People Who Made Torture Possible
Cool!
woohoo marcy!
in for another $50 – do ya think we can hit the $100,000.00 mark today?
Maybe people are into their third or fourth glass of wine tonight.
FD @29: They ARE known to pout, but there’s an election next year. They gotta do SOMEthing. I think.
Jim, that’s a good point, but it sounds like the Prez was ’sposed to HAVE a plan, before money flows . . . how is this ’sposed to work? I don’t know the protocols . . . Bueller? Anyone?
Cowardly Democrats are taking water over the side because they don’t know how to punch back, is my take. El foldo.
Wow. Very generous. No clue about how Jane works these things, but thanks.
What a fitting amount!
Congratulations, Marcy, WilliamOckham, ListMom Jane, and the FDL community!
Marcy, for her investigative journalism(!), Jane for providing Marcy a place of her own and a campaign to support her investigations, and WO and the FDL Community for giving Marcy and the rest of us such a stimulating cadre of commenters!
BTW, the FDL spell checker does not yet know that “commenters” exist, even though they are an important part of the blogging community!
Aloha,
Bob in HI
Unfortunately, they’re more corrupt than cowardly. And this will be the unmaking of the Democratic Majority. Unfortunately, Americans are quicker to see corruption in other people’s congresscritters more easily than they see it in their own. Most of the Democratic leadership is corrupt, and deserves to be primaried, including Harry Reid.
This could all be fixed if we could get public funding of elections instead of the current system, bought for and paid by lobbyists, which only serves to reinforce the emerging oligarchy.

A big salute to the 1,485 people who have donated so far. I hope Olbermann’s mentioning of Marcy by name will help double that number.
The people in this Community kick serious ass & I love you all!
on my lunch break, hurrah for marcy’s good work.
I signed up for a monthly debit, i know it is a very worthwhile subscription. Love being able in a small way to help the great work.
William of Ockham deserves all the credit he has received on this thread.
Mary, however, cannot get enough credit. I am completely incapable of articulating what Mary’s intelligence and voice have meant to this fight. She and Marcy have been unwavering and avenging angels on this issue for years.
…maybe now, when I call the CIA to find out whether they want to admit that Goss did the briefing here, they’ll return my call.
You mean you actually have to dial numbers? I’d think that you could just pick up your phone, speak into the dial tone, and get right through….
congrats!
ok, what the heck, in tribute, in celebration, I’ll give some more—$20 to me right now is $1,000, as was the last $50, but I’ll match one part of that $20, Jane. Will do it in the morning, my purse is in my car and i’m headed for bed.
I said earlier that Marcy is the best Sculler on the lake……Look at her fly across that water…..
So, glad to help her get to the other shore like Paul Revere. Anyone know the name of his horse? We could christen her craft the same.
She can scull in her scull using her sculls and hit them with her scull on their skull when she gets there…..go marcy.
(scull is the only word i know that has so many different meanings as a noun and as a verb, must drive second language people nutty. had to have a little fun with it. is a classy craft and beautiful to watch in action. right, et?)
and yes, around here, my purse is safe in the car, nice, huh?
nite pups.
I’m proud to support her work. Certainly her efforts on Valerie Plame were an indication that we can expect more great things.
The dems will never again give the repubs the “tough on defense” card. But they’re making asses of themselves in the process.
Who you talking about, bigshot? ;~)
in other words–
“watch out, be careful that you don’t become what you despise”
something like that.
nite.
MARCY JANE CRISTY LAURA…..TE FANTASTIQUE FOUR
Guilty as charged
i mixed that up–i was addressing the dems becoming what the repubs were….
tired. but in a good way.
: )
congrats to all the pups.
nite.
So true. Love Mary and WO. Sara too. So many brilliant people.
/Blushing…
I’m just glad somebody finally noticed. Hey, if Marcy is a journalist, does that make a source? Btw, if anybody asks, I’m not an anonymous source, I’m a pseudonymous source. There’s a difference.
Night, dmac. See you in Pittsburg.
Yup.
Was just watching Olbermann, got to the 2:29 section of that clip, and have replayed it three times. So far.
Congrats eWheelies, Jane, Marcy, Christy, and the behind-the-scenes folks, one and all.
i will ave more di(disposable income) in 8 days….mokay?
dang…still dropping H s
“journalist Marcy Wheeler”
Hurray!
professor ‘enry ‘iggens says saying the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain helps with those dropped h’s
Its looking more and more like the Bush gang is behind these memos. The timing was pretty good, on the surface they looked good, but as soon as you scratch the surface everything starts to fall apart.
Incredible work Jane, Marcy, William Ockham and Olbermann. Wow!
May we frame that? *g*
I wasn’t sure I heard KO right. Whoo hoo!!
i tink ive got it……………..g
(((Marcy!))) No dough but what the hell; in for another $20.
Ouch. I always mix up those two words…
I guess I never had a problem with the term “blogger.”
Marcy has a flinty honesty that does not compromise along with the mind as sharp as an eagles eye. She may have put a hole in the side of the ship of Bushco big enough to sink it.
We have to stop murder and mayhem in the name of freedom or there will be no high ground left for good people to stand on.
you said it
thers is upstairs
Think I am going to go upstairs – to bed. Nighty beddy bye
Do you remember our conversation on this almost exactly two years ago?
I was at home reading a Marcy Wheeler post in the evening on March 3rd enjoying an Oregon microbrewed IPA when I spontaneously gave $50 after reading a post she wrote about the al-Haramain case. It wasn’t brilliant factual analysis so much as the spirit of the writing that compelled me, though I can’t entirely rule out the beneficence of other spirits in action.
Alas, it was before the current mtwheel fund drive tally began. Count me in again.
I second the awed fawning over mary and marcy!
IPA India Pale Ale works for me…
Hey! I have an idea. Let’s change the way we buy investigative journalism. Let’s take our collective dollars and buy the sharpest mind, most persistent and fact based reporter and directly fund what she puts in front of our eyeballs.
Tell It ! Tell It My Sistas !
I haven’t read the thread yet, so maybe this is a repeat; Jane, can you drum up another match of some sort? Common Dreams just got a $100,000.00 match and I was so encouraged that I sent another $100.00. I did the same when the Marcy-Match came along, and I suspect that I could get fired up to do it again if someone would match it. I know that Common Dreams is tax deductible and FDL is not, but that isn’t the prime mover for me. I’ll be watching with interest.
Marcy, hell yeah!!! Now I’m going to put some money in the fund….
Jane -
This Wheel fund raising page has closed the circle. I was on these threads when this small focused fund raising was getting kicked around. January of 06′. I’ve been working on our own local thing, and am working on a new one. We founded an Art Market here using the same format. We raised $1,500 to start . I’m going to post a diary soon about it all on Kos. It’s called the $5 Dollar focus.
90 grand in 2 days, it ain’t Thinkleberry money, but it’s close.
Here’s yer “Atta Girl”.
Sorry,
Our Art Market we just started at Lubbock, Texas using a micro funding approach to what Jane has just done for the E Wheel -
http://the-downtown-art-market.blogspot.com/
We didn’t spend a penny to raise these funds. Me and Randy Fisher built it on our Macs.
Ah, good times; just about 20 of us ‘regulars’ and freep keeping the offensive trolls in check. (Well, except for the idjo, who he may have kept around for entertainment value).
IIRC, some troll on an earlier thread had been goading marcy’s readers: implying that using screen names was just gutless, and I’d answered with something about ‘anonymous’ when I actually meant ‘pseudoymous’ 8-0
Sooooooo humiliating to make these errors… (sigh).
Ah, well… not the first time I’ve mixed my metaphors, muddled my wurdz, or otherwise humiliated the ol’ screen name. So it goes…
What a sweet milestone this is tonight.
Can’t believe how fast two years have flown (!).
So heartwarming to see Marcy’s hard work and your phenomenal attention to detail (and logic) making an impact.
Marcy’s been an amazing journalist for some time now; it’s just that the official media is starting to take notice. WilliamOckham’s a great commenter. I always hope to see one or more of his comments in one of Marcy’s excellent articles. Congrats to FDL and everyone here who makes it a very special place.
Am I the only firepup who has had fantasies of Marcy as the hostess with the mostess on “Meet The Press”?
I’m glad to see our donations are being put to good use . I’d hate to see the Lake lose a talented journalist like Marcy Wheeler.
Way to go Marcy ,you have the tenacity of a bulldog ,keep it up !!
Ok, Jane, I met part of your challenge, just put in the promised $20 from my comment at 54…
from my dwindling ‘clear out the clutter and fix things’ fund…but things are getting more user-friendly around here, so, good way to watch it dwindle.
Said in the paypal comments–that is pretty much what Marcy does, ‘clear the clutter and fix things’, so, it’s not off-budget…
Take care, can’t wait to see what you do next, both of you!
We need to find a rugby analogy to honor her rugby talents.
And wouldn’t it be nice if a Certain Special Prosecutor could throw in a few bucks . . . and a “mash note” as well.
Perhaps you could amend that to “clear out the clutter, sell clutter at yard sale, and donate the proceeds to Marcy.”
After looking at the timeline on the torture issue that Marcy has put together, Kurtz can decry this if he assails our not so emptywheel’s credibility and chops as a true journalist.
Thanks Keith!
Let’s check the kerneling on that memo, shall we? And track down Dan Rather’s whereabouts at the time . . .
