Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Kristof and Rich in the NYT this morning. MoDo, in “Cheney, Master of Pain,” says that the question of what Nancy Pelosi knew or didn’t, or when she did or didn’t know, is irrelevant to how W. and Dick Cheney broke the law and authorized torture. Mr. Kristof, writing from Bo, Sierra Leone, says “This Mom Didn’t Have to Die,” and that in West Africa, women face threats from warlords and exotic disease, and something even deadlier — motherhood. Mr. Rich says “Obama Can’t Turn the Page on Bush,” and that until there is true transparency, revelations of the unresolved eight-year nightmare will keep raining down drip by drip.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup this morning. In a triumph of hope over experience I’m planting out zucchini plants again. I’ll thrill to watch them getting big and healthy, and then despair when the squash vine borers get them… It’s a tradition by now. Have a great day.

I don’t really have a lot to contribute tonight. 92 F. today, heavy rains, hail, and an incredible lightning storm. Drought or floods-no middle ground. The Great Swamp is alive tonight, with a million or so frogs, crickets, and owls absolutely partying down. Deafening, but one can still sleep through it. It really freaks out new arrivals.

Still love LLN, Suzanne. Don’t ever doubt.
