Mighty Mouse – Outer Space Visitor.
Unlike the mice in this cartoon, new faces (as well as familiar ones) are always welcome at FireDogLake. This is Late Late Night FDL, where off topic is the topic – stop by the comments section and say hey.

About Firedoglake
hmmmm, did i forget to use deodorant or something? everyone must be watching the cartoon – yeah, that’s it, everyone is watching the cartoon
Well I was watching the cartoon – yay Mighty Mouse!
hey eg – love the flying saucers – classic
Forgot all about Mighty Mouse! He was never one of my favs, but this was a cute toon.
hey loohoo – how’s the southland tonight? we hit 75 today and could hit 80 tomorrow. lovely lovely day today.
“Take every precaution.” Reminds me of my duck ‘n cover childhood. This is a find!
Sorry, I’m still on Chuck Norris.
hey margot – yup – same here. i remember doing those duck and cover drills as a kid at school.
hey jacqrat – how’s bravo?
Not good, she keeps walking around in circles, won’t lie down.
I am torn, don’t know if it’s time to call the Penninsula Humane Society or not. She is still very much interested in food…
Check that – now she is on the floor but not on her side. I think she has trouble breathing a bit because her lymph nodes are so large.
I just opened the windows cuz it’s a tad warm tonight. It’s been really nice lately. Foggy in the early part of the day, then burning off.
So you’re liking living on the Oregon coast?
oh jacqrat ((( ))) take your cues from her. i think she will let ya know when she is ready to go.
94 here! too frigging hot!!
i’m loving it loohoo – tis a truly special place – so peaceful. i am more relaxed than i have been in a long time. still gotta get moved in – but now my stuff is in portland and i can drive to the pod warehouse and get some stuff outta it. not sure when i’m gonna move all my stuff in – sometime this summer.
hey nahant – i’m so glad i moved away from that. i remember hitting 108 at the cabin – no air conditioning.
Hey, Suzanne, glad you’re here to keep the fires burning. I’m so sick of people justifying torture … and lying and… well, you know, Dicky-Trick and all that heavy breathing. I wish we’d elected a man who could stand up to the evil, but I’m not sure yet.
Funny! Haven’t been on the threads with you for a long while, jacqrat. How’s tricks?
hey dearie – i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that this is a ‘make me do it’ thang.
But still … it doesn’t happen often… but this weather sure does make the tomatoes happy!!
A rare late night appearance for you… may I take this opportunity to say what is on my mind.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05…..ich-5.html
Frank Rich nailed it with…
“If the Obama administration really wants to move on from the dark Bush era, it will need a new commission, backed up by serious law enforcement, to shed light on where every body is buried.”
What have you had so far? Just the basics with none of the pretties?
hey bb
I wish….but I see petitions being sent winging to the White House. I don’t see Obama yielding to the requests. I see him backsliding. Hope I’m wrong.
i packed the pod with the idea of stuff being in it for about 6 weeks. i came up here with 2 suitcases of clothes and my computer. the vacation rental was fully furnished. when i found this place, i had the option of renting it furnished since i had not spent a winter at the coast. i guess it scares some people off but i loved it. i’ve bought some area rugs, pots and pans and some kitchen stuff but yeah, making do with no pretties.
a great day to check what Glenn Greenwald has to say:
http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
a paragon of consistent adherence to his values, civil liberties are more than just a wedge issue for him.
the Lake is a place where some share this consistent adherence to such values, which is great!
wouldn’t want to have a double standard on something as disgusting as torture and arial bombardment of civilians, just because there is a Democrat calling the shots now, would we?
Yes. It’s true. Truth and transparancy or more of the same. So far we are getting an awful lot of more of the same and a lot less of truth. If any of you missed Juan Cole on Moyers last night, try to find it on youtube or elsewhere. There is so much truth that needs to be wrestled into the light.
hey sporkovat
iirc, it reruns late at nite either tonight or sun nite – i’ll make a point to watch it. missed it last night.
Hi Jacqrat you and Teddy were having heavy communication at the cabin before Suz moved at her meet up. I brought a poor fellow with me wanted to sell a screen play. Sorry about your friends breathing…maybe a little allergies too. Call another vet and get a second opinion there may be help and you don’t know it yet.
Where is Teddy of late…no post no comments?
bb, teddy has been on vacation – should be back for his regular sun nite late nite post tomorrow iirc.
((jacqrat)) ((Bravo))
Worked late tonite Suzanne , just got in checking out mighty mouse!
hey bbugs – how ya been?
OT, but I can’t resist: Sugar is the gateway drug. Live with it.
aint nothing off topic here at late late night.
I agree, wrong is wrong regardless who the boss is !
Good thanks , working alot
Hows by you ?
I wish I could say that mashed peas or steamed spinach was the gateway drug, but we all know better. Sugar those kids up… and the processed food producers will make oodles of money. It’s so simple really.
cheers!
doing ok bbugs. am enjoying the views out my windows, watching the plants bloom – am enjoying the pleasures of leaving here as a great distraction from all the ugly that is in our news.
its never the spinach – popeye make sure of that
too bad we can’t pick gateways that are good for us
Can we all agree that torture is wrong and that Cheney hurt people in order to get them to link Al-Q with WMD so that he could have the war he wanted? Why is this dragging out and why does this seem so hard. It look so obvious to me. But maybe I’ve spent way to much time doing independent research and then reading FDL.
gotta get away once in a while ,the news will drive you nuts it just never ends
its what i love about the late late nite threads – a break for those who need some downtime to recharge their batteries. i love how we get several conversations going on at once, about different things. helps me continue to fight the fight in the morning.
hiya Suze & Pups!
Widespread patchy frost is expected tonight in the Upper Midwest. A bit nippy, currently in the high 30’s. Blergh.
I think you’ll find we’re all in agreement here
hey ndfg (brrrr)
We’re getting June Gloom early (again!) in central California. Foggy sometimes, inversion, overcast…. but it’s all good in paradise.
lately i’ve been lurking but not leaving comments
I stop by once or twice a day and browse
glad ya came outta lurk mode tonight bbugs.
i agree, Suze. That’s why i show up here at night. I spend enough time during daylight hours being angry or sick or disgusted by the goings on in our country. This is a good recharge station.
thanks ndfg – i figure late late night is what we make it. i’ve been doing late late nite for the past year and a half – i’ve wondered if perhaps lln has gotten stale.
Indeed! I can get so wrapped up in the nonsense, but then Suzanne opens the Lake and I feel comforted. Something to be said about that.
I enjoy the cartoons and videos you put up for us ,I’d stop by more often but the time difference does me in, I get up at 5 am most days so this is wicked late for me!
You’ll see me around more in fall and winter , I don’t work as much and I don’t havta get up so early
yikes – i remember those days – getting up at oh-dark-hundred and having to get dressed for work in front of the wall heater. i do not do well with alarm clocks either.
I prefer showing up at the Late Night or the LLN threads myself. It’s crazy enough when i see what my patients have to go through daily. There’s only so much i can do to help them on a national front, most of it i have to concentrate on taking care of myself and then them.
This is a definite haven and i prefer it to a lot of the knock down drag outs that happen earlier. We still get our discourse here even now though.
hey alias
I don’t think you have gotten stale, Suz. I do think that many of us are feeling a sense of gut-punch from the BigO (no, not Oprah) and feeling tired and powerless to push any harder than we’ve been pushing. For years I’ve been thinking that maybe the USA has maxed, but I can’t think of anywhere else that I could go. Gotta say that I did love the beauty and sensibility of Italy, though. If Obama is just another politician…..well, that’s not what I bargained for.
i don’t think so … i think a lot of folks have had to take a breather after the intensity of the last year. I sure don’t spend as much time online. Although finally having a full time job sure has cut into the blogging time for me.
Sadly though, the craziness isn’t stopping while burnout hovers. With Pluto spending the next 13 or so years in Capricorn, the ugliness and horrors that the Bush mal-administration perpetrated WILL be uncovered. So i’m not giving up hope that justice will prevail.
Hi Suzanne and everybody. (*puts out a pitcher of chocolate martinis*) Been a good day up here at Chez Beard. Made some ginger/pecan brittle ice cream with rum soaked raisins. Something I haven’t made in ages.
Thr President of the USA is not our dictator as Bush “The Decider” wanted to establish in his Fear oriented authoritarian presidency.
MSM the propaganda tool, uses Transactional Anlysis or group psychology with parent to child transactions of authority. The mass psychology is implemented by fear repetitive events (yellow, amber, red warnings)reminicent of the Nazis maniulation of Europe.
It was revealed this week that all those retired military consultants on the war that MSN hosted for commentary were in fact Bushco tools.
Mt red light went off when the light system was regularly used to scare folks. These people are bottom feeders.
Heya Suz. At the moment i’m enjoying my return to One Piece, one of the anime shows i love beyond all reason. Only taken me almost a month to get 150 episodes in again. Of course, episode 401 just aired in japan…
But then, when they say Epic they mean EPIC! XD Its one of those shows i can return and rewatch with absolute glee and still laugh at the jokes. Even the running jokes i’m long familiar with.
Oh, and Lace Experiment Mark IV seems to be a success. I’ve got the spacing right, and it’s starting to look like something.
i’ll have some of that ice cream if ya don’t mind beard5. i think a chocolate martini would be the perfect thing to wash it down with. how ya doing?
political arguments in between discussions of whos tomato plants are doing the best
comfy like an old pair of jeans is a good thing alias.
and food. there’s always some food in there somewhere
woohoo – we gonna be able to see a picture of it at some point?
{{{ alias! }}} i’ve been holding you and your family tenderly in my thoughts. And i am hoping that your online radio work is providing a fun, restorative balance to your life.
Beard, i’ll take you up on some of that ice cream! I just have vanilla here, but its pretty good smothered with some of the maple syrup my brother bottled up.
Absolutely! This was Mark I. And while it worked, it wasn’t going to work for an actual curtain for my front door.
MMMMMM ………FOOD !!!
You are so right, bb, but I so wish for some more of the good guys/gals to step up and speak out.
Mine is just fine. It’s at Kmart, but it’s looking great.;) Really have to remember to buy and plant the tomatoes….
ohmystars – you are gonna make lace curtains? sigh – my sister does some real fine chrochet work but she has been woodworking and doing stained glass lately.
i can’t wait to see them.
No planting till Memorial day here frost’ll get ya
Yup. It’s got the appeal of a very strong cast with drama that goes from tearjerker moments to falling out of your chair randomosity. It’s an odd blend but it works perfectly. It doesn’t kill you with the angst either. By all rights it is ‘boys anime’ but its well written enough that all ages and all types enjoy it. The focus isn’t on the fights either, which is another thing i like in it. The adventure’s the thing and the friends you have at your side. :D
The manga-ka (comic book artist) who writes/draws it has just started tying in some of his older and sneakier subplots. *grin* Stuff i’d only seen hints of before are coming to fruition and its making me flail around like a crazy woman in my chair. I read the latest chapter scanlated (scanned and translated) from out of japan, and wheeee! The anime isn’t there yet of course, but it will be eventually. *grin* For now? I’m catching up on the animated version and laughing all over again.
Oh that sounds good!
margot it is finally safe here to plant stuff. i’m gonna be hitting a local nursery in town that specializes in edible landscaping. i want to get some planter boxes for the front deck. lost a couple geraniums in pots when it snowed so i want to replace them.
Oh, I envy people who can crochet. It can work up so much faster. This is needle-lace (needlepoint lace, reticella or punto in aria. (all names for the same thing))
I’m doing it in segments. I need two 9″ strips for the glass, and the pattern I’m working is 4 1/2″ square. I figure I can attach the squares all together.
Time for sleep !
Good nite !
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!
Thanks NDFG. I haven’t been broadcasting as of yet. I figure i’ll start back in on it again next week or the week after. I’ve been taking the last week to get back into the pharmacy thing again. Radio’s going to take a bit more finangling with my schedule to settle back in. Didn’t help that my ‘net was down for a solid 24 hours 2 days ago. (What do i do? Dive right into my bookshelf and watch more of One Piece that i’ve had on CDROM for years.)
So far my family is alright. I plan on giving mom a call tomorrow or monday night to see how things are going. I’ve had my online support group of friends keep me busy for my part, along with my coworkers. I have sunday off, so i’m planning on an actual day of rest. And maybe going to see the new Star Trek flick. *grin*
g’nite bbugs
Sleep well, BB.
bobbin work?
I’m thinking of trying to get my conservative county to allow California law to prevail and to permit med marijuana for ill people….thinking I’ll try to serve the senior community and oncology patients rather than those just suffering stress and ennui and general malaise. Does anyone think that might be purposeful?
wasn’t there something a few weeks ago where the sheriff of orange county was calling for straight up legalization and taxation? oc is pretty conservative – dang, wish i could remember where i read that…
wamm is up in santa cruz and they are a coop with that same criteria. ya might wanna check them out. (wo)man’s aliance medical mariajuana (i think) is what wamm stands for. they are very well known in santa cruz and were one of the first raided by the feds
Here’s one of my favorite inspiration sites for Punto in Aria It’s not bobbin lace, (which is fun to do as well) It’s actually worked with a sewing needle. And a lot of modern lace artists are working it in 3 dimensions, making sculptural pieces, working in beads, and other nifty stuff.
Food?
Well come on, let’z cook!
*drooling*
hey uc – what ya wanna cook?
I haven’t been here all that long, but doesn’t feel stale to me. I like that the toon or song makes me laugh or at least smile. I believe those moments are necessary for one’s mental health, especially when we spend so much time here concentrating on the evils of the world.
We all sleep better with a smile on our face. And as a trained observer,
I really think the interrelationships built on this site are more intimate than most of you realize.
I also think that sometimes LLN may seem slow to you Suz, but that’s usually when people are linking a lot of things they want to share with their friends. It doesn’t mean people are bored, it means they’re REALLY interested.
Anyway…
Oh and nifty stuff is being done with bobbin lace. For example Jewelry and Fences (I think that last is just too cool for words)
hey emerson – was that concert tonight?
good points, emerson, and once the weather warms up and Suz returns to doing her dives…..well, we can only imagine
what a wonderful link! I was unaware of that early type of lace, how beautiful!
wire lace jewelry – duh! it makes so much sense. and the lace wire fence makes something ugly so wow. thanks for the eye candy.
As Emerson just said, yup, slow response times due to trying to find the links and stuff.
“You are so right, bb, but I so wish for some more of the good guys/gals to step up and speak out.”
I believe a lot of well informed sharp folks are articulating for us. FDL has done an especially good job of creating a podium for them. A long list here and even just tonight the link to the excellent Bill Moyers program on the new run up to war in Pakistan where we are bombing civilians.
Juan Cole points up the similarities in the run up to war in Pakistan that was done to go into Iraq. 4000 Taliban could not get thr Nuclear weapons that are not even assembed. MSM is fear mongering again. Insidious warmongering.
It is enough to who owns our media, Mormons Right wing Christians and AIPAC have slanted the news with their bias. I have not turned on TV for several years….it has improved some thanks to msnbc rachel and KO.
supposed to hit 80 tomorrow. that keeps up and i’ll be diving soon. water temps are still down in the low 50’s tho.
My pleasure. It’s all part of my evil plan to insert creative ideas into other peoples’ heads…muwahahaha…
oh wait, I shouldn’t type that out, should I?
my pleasure – and i won’t tell a soul.
Nite, Suz, and crew. Never stale.
g’nite dearie and thanks
SUZ!
OK – maybe it’s Hifalutin to go on about Peking duck, but here’s a thing to make yer mouth go WOW! [Substitute chicken for duck, which is probably the norm for most people. But pay attention to cooking method and WINE!]
Get a duck.[chicken]
If it’s a 5 pounder or better, great! Take about 1/2 cup of grape jelly, add some merlot wine to it. wack it all together, and smoosh over the bird. roast. I do 350 degrees for about 2 hours on a 5 pounder – CRISPY SKIN Is what you want!
After your duck [chicken] is done, make some moo shu pancakes. Slice up some green onions. take some some hoi sin sauce, and with a green onion, brush onto the pancake. add roasted duck, and hoi sin sauce. Have a glass full of St. Emillion. Eat. Drink. Be Merry.
Love it!
ohmystars – gonna have to see if the stores (only 2) carry duck. i love a crispy skin on chicken tho… thanks
i usually take a whole chicken, apply liberal amounts of minced garlic and melted buttter and bake it for about an hour, hour and a half (depending on size of bird). i turn it and baste it and turn it and baste it some more. yummy yummy.
Oh, good recipe, thank you. I’ve got chicken thawing for tomorrow night. May have to consider this. (Instead of mooshu pancakes, I’ll probably just whip up some crepes, with scallions chopped in)
Oh yes, about that concert…
As it turned out, I could not go. You see, my mom is a big NY baseball fan. When she turned 80, I decided I would take her to see the Mets play the Giants every year. This was year 3, but what I didn’t know until 5 days ago was that THIS was the weekend when the Mets were in SF and they’re only here once a year.
Soooo, I sold the ticket to the Gorge and took mom (and my nephew) to the game today.
If there are any folks here that are more tech-savvy then me, I have a question about downloading music from Amazon. Does it have DRM? In other words, can it simply stop playing like the music I bought from Rhapsody did?
And on an unrelated note, has anyone else noticed the increase in mohawks out there?
it’s been a refreshing swim in the Lake, as always. I think i’m gonna go to bed with a book on maple syrup. Lent to me by my syrup-making brother who has decided i should make little maple sugar leaf-shaped candies since i own a candy thermometer. He thoughtfully included the leaf candy mold when he lent me the book this afternoon *g* It certainly sounds like a better project than watching tv!
*waves good night*
and ya can always add a whole buncha more garlic (gloves this time) along with various peppers (red, green, yellow, orange),some mushrooms, assorted other veggies of choice, and some quartered yukon gold potatoes to the baking pan.
dang but wow, how cool.
g’nite ndfg
my youngest girl was sporting a mini mohawk when she was over for mothers day. her buzz cut is being modified into a mohawk. *deep sigh*
You know, another thing which is great on the chix, is to “parge.”
Slice a little slit under the chick skin in several places, and push an herb, lemon, garlic or pepper under the skin. Butter doesn’t hurt either. :)
Funky taste combos are GREAT! Lemon and Anise have worked really well for me in the past; you just have to be cool on the ratio.
Just think “Free Bird.”
whatever you do, don’t let on that you know the Liberal Agenda is World Domination.
oh yeah… i like to do that with lamb and pork roasts. garlic and maybe some rosemary… i’m going grocery shopping tomorrow. they do not carry lamb at either store. i’m gonna have to make do with a pork roast instead. maybe the next time i go into portland i can find lamb.
yeah, it was fun. And the Mets won.g
Haven’t received my sister’s Gorge review yet.
Nite ndfg!
evening all.
Lace, maple sugar candy and Peking duck, cooleo!
giants starting their june swoon a little early this year?
Well folks, I think my insomnia streak has broken, and it’s time to head off to bed. Have fun!
hey sunny
g’nite beard5
Rowed across the bay before sunset…lot of algae…to guys fishing on the sand spit one offered me a “tok” on his pot pipe. I passed as I like my lungs clear as well as my head. Thanked them and rowed back. Gardening, eating organic vegan diet, rowing, blogging, reading, surfing ( the internet) and sleeping.
Good life if you don’t weaken.
You know, I haven’t had lamb in several years. I really like it too, and me and the Mr. used to go in the Fall to Taos Wool Fest, and bring some home.
Alas, economics the last 5 years have precluded that.
But I should probably keep a sharper eye out on the famer’s market. Just really started up again here in Denver. I’ve only been buying from the pea guy! Doh!
nite, beard–saw two blue mohawks at game today.
I think they just ran into a Met buzz saw this weekend. They’re young and play hard.
the farmers market doesn’t start until mid june up here. i don’t know what they carry but i am sure looking foward to it.
you are in such good shape. all that rowing is good for you bb.
I’ve seen quite a few mohawks here. Finally the “all hair cut except for tiny braid in the back” trend is over here.
are the garlic fries as good as they used to be? dayam, i miss those fries.
Am I hallucinating or were folk’s facebook links
visible before I refreshed?
Prolly hallucinating – been viewing pix of darth smiling.
cudda had an incomplete page load where it showed up as text instead of the icon
yeah, I heard Gilroy now just trucks their entire crop to the ball park.
Hi Suzanne-
I’ve been hanging here for about 3 1/2 years, and the Lake has been through a lot of changes in that time. I miss the old days, when we could really hang out and analyze. I know Jane and crew are on a mission, and I support them totally-but I miss what once was. Late Late Night is really the only thread that really preserves that old feel, and it’s always a pleasure to see it open whether I have anything to contribute or not.
Not stale in any way.
LMAO-that’ll do it!
hey ron d – i do try to keep that old time feel going.
there is no such thang as too much garlic (lmao)
Whatever, it’s gone and I’m glad…
Dunno nuthin about no icons ;-)
Now if I could just keep the smiling dick out of my computer. Silly me, thought nothing could be worse than the sneering version.
Green Day on SNL now
One lurker is better than two (Darth&Dubya) smirkers.
I don’t really have a lot to contribute tonight. 92 F. today, heavy rains, hail, and an incredible lightning storm. Drought or floods-no middle ground. The Great Swamp is alive tonight, with a million or so frogs, crickets, and owls absolutely partying down. Deafening, but one can still sleep through it. It really freaks out new arrivals.
Still love LLN, Suzanne. Don’t ever doubt.
Good night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
thanks pups. it had been a while since i’ve done a check to make sure late late night is what and how ya want it.
time for me to mosey off to bed. g’nite and thank you.
yeah, but if the guy isn’t eating garlic, you turn into a consultant (callback).
Hey.
nite suzanne.
LLN is always good.
hey busted – ya came in just as i was leaving
nite Suz. You’re the best.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Kristof and Rich in the NYT this morning. MoDo, in “Cheney, Master of Pain,” says that the question of what Nancy Pelosi knew or didn’t, or when she did or didn’t know, is irrelevant to how W. and Dick Cheney broke the law and authorized torture. Mr. Kristof, writing from Bo, Sierra Leone, says “This Mom Didn’t Have to Die,” and that in West Africa, women face threats from warlords and exotic disease, and something even deadlier — motherhood. Mr. Rich says “Obama Can’t Turn the Page on Bush,” and that until there is true transparency, revelations of the unresolved eight-year nightmare will keep raining down drip by drip.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup this morning. In a triumph of hope over experience I’m planting out zucchini plants again. I’ll thrill to watch them getting big and healthy, and then despair when the squash vine borers get them… It’s a tradition by now. Have a great day.
