Hey BT, thanks for picking up the immigration story. I had noticed that because about a month or so ago, someone had posted this really cool interactive immigration map of the US. You can click on any decade that the census started taking data and click on the nationality and see how various populations moved across the land.

I had noticed at the time that if one clicks on the 1930s, immigration from Mexico had fallen off dramatically…and here’s a quote from your link:

The trend emerged clearly with the onset of the recession and, demographers say, provides new evidence that illegal immigrants from Mexico, by far the biggest source of unauthorized migration to the United States, are drawn by jobs and respond to a sinking labor market by staying away.

“If jobs are available, people come,” said Jeffrey S. Passel, senior demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan research group in Washington. “If jobs are not available, people don’t come.”

It just doesn’t get any clearer than that.

Pretty sure Bush had a signing statment that cancels out any laws that pretain to Prez obfuscation of said laws. Any Prez..any laws..anytime.

Last Thread Raven got us all Ripin on Morning Joe of the Dead intern fame, Mika the your dad is so smart what happened to you, Mike Barnacle who stole Mike Royko’s columns and passed them as his own, Nazi Pat Buchanan.
Just how any of them gets jobs with such resumes is beyond me.
Social Darwinism when we can’t replace the elite class seems to reverse itself in these situations and produces a Reverse Darwin effect.
Bush is of Course the Reverse Superman.
