Utah & Ani
Did I hallucinate Jon Stewart asking for June to be Ani DiFranco month at the WH? Today is Utah Phillips’ birthday.
who me?
I have been on Dexamethazone which is a powerful steroid and I was on it 4-5 times a day. Thankfully I am on a steroid tapper and now on 2 mg am & 2 mg in the evening. I was up to 4mg x 4-5 times per day.
hey mr why – jon hasn’t aired here on the west coast – i’ll be sure to listen for that.
utah is missed :(
so it was the high steroid dose that got ya discombobulated?
No, last night when talking about the poetry slam/jam.
I’m so happy for you!
ah. i was still obsessing on the lost season finale cliffhanger last nite.

Thanks for making that happen.
hey sunny
hey neuro
Beatles for katymine
that’s good tuneage margot (head bopping)
Hey Suze. I have a rant building but I’m not sure I have the energy to write it tonight. Has to do with the double standard Carrie Prejean wants applied to her, while Natalie Maines just got death threats.
If you open your yap, you get to deal with the slings and arrows of public opinion.
Hey Katymine – remember when life hits you like a truck, you gotta rise up!
dood, let me know when that rant brews and perks into an ox diary
its bank failure friday tomorrow. plus, of course, any news dumps late in the afternoon.
Nodding off.
nite pups.
Truth. But we are in an anti-intellectual phase of Americana, and MzCali is just so anti-intellectual that she’s all the rage. Embarrassing for those of us who don’t play stupid. Yes, get your rant on!
g’nite sunny
And as to the current dumb-down, I don’t know what I’d do without fdl and TDS…..Jon Stewart currently pointing out the utter stupidity of Obama not discarding “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” —- I gotta say, I am pretty disappointed in Obama on some ‘easy’ issues. How hard would it be to just throw that trash out? Who’s squeezing him on that issue?
me too. i keep telling myself that he is not a progressive – that he is a self described centrist. he is doing some of the right things but i figure we gotta force him to do the others. just as momentum is building towards the investigation of torture in the former administration, i hope we can build similar groundswells on matters like DADT and single payer universal healthcare.
Hi Folks!
I’ve got a special pitcher of chocolate martinis for Suzanne and Katymine (*hugs*) (perhaps if you’re nice, they’ll share)
It’s a very pleasant night out there, here in NH. And the FDLake is a marvelous place to Let it all hang out
–Beard (who’s working on Lace Experiment Mark III tonight)
I tell myself that Obama is probably ‘pacing himself’ and doesn’t want to get dragged off track, but sometimes one simply has to stand up. I can only imagine that Choi (the Arabic translator who outed himself on Rachel Maddow) was ready to be dismissed from his military commitment, but, jeez, that was the perfect opportunity for Obama to be cool and ditch the nonsensical policy. I hear that he punted. Oh, well.
hey beard5 – love me some chocolate martinis – thank you for them and the ear candy.
looks like chocolate martinis on the house tonight pups, courtesy of beard5.
Looks like everyone is sleepy tonight. G’nite, Suz. Thanks for hosting.
g’nite dearie
Katymine is amazing
*sigh* i hope that it is that everyone is sleepy – and not that my late late nights are boring or have gotten stale. i’ve been doing them for a year and a half now – perhaps we have gotten in a rut?
hey bb
No rut here. The conversations here have been absolutely marvelous on those nights I can’t sleep. For me, it’s a part of the Lake that I look forward to.
Hi BigBrother.
thanks beard5. i do worry about that kinda thing – and am always open to suggestions.
After I posted my comment, I thought of something else.
I’ll read the posts during the day, the stuff on the front page, and in the individual blogs. And I keep up with the news and the thoughts that way.
But, I won’t comment there, or only rarely, because I simply don’t think as fast as a lot of the posters there. And they’ve already said what I was starting to think, and said it in a much more thoughtful way than I could.
Late-Late-Night is a great space to contribute to the conversation, for those of us who don’t comment earlier in the day.
thanks for that reminder – i’m gonna make sat nite’s cartoon a delurk and say hi post to try to get some of the silent types to dip their toes into the waters of the lake.
That’s a good idea. (Oh, I love the cartoons that you find. Have you seen the cartoons that they find on Tor.com? There’s some wonderful stuff, as well as deeply creepy things there)
Oh, and has anyone seen CTuttle recently? I just find it amazing that he’s working up on Mauna Kea
his work schedule (which is when he is able to be online) is syncing him to be online on the nights that es is doing late late nite. he was on monday nites late late nite iirc. can ya believe he has been working up there for almost a year now?
Another video, The Knack (It just came on the music choice cable thingie)
Man, I have some memories with that song as the soundtrack ;)
Wow, it doesn’t feel like it’s been a year. I still think that he has one of the cooler jobs out there. Right up there with the folks exploring the underground lakes of Antarctica.
oh boy, did that bring back memories. loved the will work for food in tape on the morterboard cap.
i agree about ct’s job. being a laser spotter for the telescope up there even sounds forking cool.
too true. I dump my thoughts onto the keyboard often enogh, but too often the thread has moved on. Esp. if I use preview and correct typos. ; )
hey tejanarusa – how ya been?
Hi Tejanarusa (here have a chocolate martini) I forgot that Preview is working again.
edits back and show text works too. the tech crew have been working on that list of theirs :)
I saw ‘edit’ That’s a blessing alright. Particularly for those of us with an excessive fondness for ellipses…(parentheses) and ‘apostrophe’s
they are not all back on all the sister blogs yet. the tech crew has quite a large job ahead of them fixing it so these bells and whistles work on the sister blogs.
Hi, Suze. Kewl that edit and show text are back. On Christy’s sub-blog, too?
I’ve been “away” because my computer got fried. It was in the shop-a small, pop-and-son operation, for a month, while they tried to fix it. Finally concluded it wasn’t fixable (literally fried – burnt holes – when it all stopped there was a sort of burnt smell…)
anyway, last weekend a cosmic confluence of small windfall and sale on laptops converged, and I was able to buy a new laptop.
Of course, it came with Vista, and that meant my old Office wouldn’t work, so I had to buy that too (but also on sale, w/ computer purchase), so I have been trying to figure out both.
Have obviously missed a lot – never saw any of Elmore’s posts, but caught a few comments about katymine being very sick. (left a note for you downstairs, katymine).
Whew – I’ve missed my FDL!
Where are my manners? Thank you kindly, sir. {sips delicately).
Mmmmm.
yikes – that must have been horrible. no internet for news, having to rely on the television and newspapers (shrudder). i’m so happy you were able to get a new laptop and are back among the informed again.
i wudda been jonesin’ real bad.
“
It was makin’ me crazy – “jonesing” is exactgly the right word.
I went to the library nearly every day, but one hour – speed-reading and typing as fast as possible just ain’t enough.
When some one started yelling in my ear one day (speaking to the guy at the next computer, but apparenlty thinking he was a block away), and I asked her to move just a little bit farther from my position, she got all huffy and told me how sorry she was I was in a bad mood. (and I thought I was a sarcastic b**tch). I wanted to scream – “I’ve only got an hour, for crissake!” Internet deprivation makes me mean.
Thank dog for Jon Stewart and Rachel and Keith.
yikes – gives me the chills just to think about going through that for a month. its bad enough when power was out for a couple of days (as would happen when i lived at the cottage in ca)…
Well, I did get a lot more reading (on paper) done than I have been doing.
But not much job-applying – it’s hard to do, even when you find something through another route, they always want the resume sent by email, or an app done on-line.
I lost my bookmarks, though – they weren’t backed up, and as I said, the old puter was friiiiied. But man, I love this shiny clean bright-screen brand new computer — with a working battery. I’ve never had a brand-new one, always a hand-me down or one put together from parts (usually with some small something that didn’t quite work riht). Such a luxury!
And it’s smaller and lighter than the old one, so I can actually go out and take it with me to use free wi-fi. But which probably won’t happen for awhile ’cause I’m paranoid about losing it. But I could! *g*
Ack! Glad you have a new machine, I think I *would* be lost without my computer. I mean, all my friends live in it.
I’m saving up for a new laptop machine, so I can replace my current behemoth desktop.
And I echo your thanks to the gods for Keith and Rachel.
new machines are always so fast. learning a new system (such as vista) has its challenges but… faster and lighter and smaller are worth it. kinda like when ya get a brand new car and it has that new car smell but ya gotta figure out where the buttons and switches are -there is nothing like a new computer to have ya zooming along.
ohmystars, i just noticed the time. guess i had better mosey along. thanks for letting me spend some time with you tonight.
g’nite pups. attaturk will be up before too long.
Yeeks. I just wrote a lovely, eloquent post in response to beard5 and Suzanne, hit some random key by accident and it disappeared into the ether….
I’m too pooped to re-do – so I’ll just say thanks for the sympathy, all, and letting me whine a bit about my ‘deprivation.’
Off to bed at last.
(oh-in response to Suzanne at 89–you’re right, Vista has been annoying in some ways, but a pleasant surprise in others. And to some extent at least, it seems Word has been streamlined. We’ll see when I have to actuallly use it.)
Good night!
Sleep well, to the both of you.
I’ll still be up for a while, the embroidery is going very well tonight, and the coffee is good this morning/night.
just got home from work, it’s always such a nice wind-down to cruise thru the comments on late-late.
Suze, i luurrrvvv delurk threads! I’ll be sure to stop by.
*waves at tejanarusa* i’m so happy for you re the new puter! Altho it is a major bummer you had to do without for so long.
and as busted would say, g’thud! i’m done for the night.
Hi NDFG. (passes over a chocolate martini nightcap)
Oh heck, not quite gone – gotta wave back to ndfg! “waving”
beardr5– I’m impressed. years ago it was embroidery that kept me up late, too – like you say, if it’s going well you don’t want to quit. (I have a nightshirt that says, “just one more stitch!”)
Unfortunately, I haven’t picked up a needle in ages. The internet killed off my other avocations, I guess.
Well, and having seen the clock, I *am* going to bed now.
well, thankee! i’ll down it quick b4 i go brush my teeth. *waves g’night*
