Yesterday, it was announced that Marcy Wheeler won the Hillman Award for her investigative blogging. NOI said they would match any donation dollar for dollar up to $5000, so we set out to raise $5000. Instead, we raised $15,000 — for a total of $20,000 to the Marcy fund over the past 24 hours. Woo hoo! Many, many thanks to Judith Freeman and the folks at NOI, and to everyone who donated. I’ve added the total to the thermometer.
Thanks also to everyone who posted about the award, including Susie Madrak, Skippy, Matt Yglesias, Josh Marshall, Scott Lemieux, Moon of Alabama, Dana Houle, Bloggasm, Americablog, Leftword, BlueGirl and fromcascadia.
We’re really proud of Marcy and her much-deserved honor. If you’d still like to contribute to the Marcy fund so she can have the resources to do what she does full-time, you can still do so.

Fantasteeeeeeek! After watching the mercury sorta sit there for a while, it’s wonderful to see a sharp rise and really kind of our friends in other parts of the left blog world to support the campaign.
Great tribute to The Lake and Miraculous Marcy. When asked the pups really do come through.
Thanks, Jane, for giving us a home.
It certainly is a privilege to hang out here with such smart, informed and talented people. Great job on the fundraising, Jane and all pups.
Yesterday was an incredible day for Marcy with the award, but she kept her focus through the Whitehouse hearing and even gave us additional wonderful posts. The blogosphere is finally taking its rightful place among the sources of information for the American people.
Politicians still have quite a ways to go before they understand that their actions and statements are now subject to real-time analysis by a hive that is extremely efficient in sharing information.
Yeah we were waiting for the announcement for another push, but we’ve got other matching donations in the works. It’ll get there!
BTW thanks again everyone, this is really exciting. Making sure that Marcy can make a living doing what she does, and have the resources she needs is a really good feeling — especially at a time when all revenues are down and it couldn’t happen any other way.
Once tried to get out of going to school and told mom I was sick.
Mom put thermometer in my mouth and left room. I touched thermometer to mom’s hot iron. The top really does burst open and the juice inside pours out. Awaiting similar outcome for Marcy Fund.
Oh yeah, I got sent to school. Thank you Jane and all for FDL.
Any name brand limosine liberals helping to bridge the gap?
I might have missed it here in the comments, but have they been reached out to? Did we get the stiff arm? Want to name names?
T-
I found an email address on the contact page for NOI: info@neworganizing.com
I just sent them a quick thank you for stepping up on Marcy’s behalf.
Okedokey -
I’ll send another $183.00 check if one or more readers will match it. Put a note or something in your comment(s) to let me know when I need to pay up. *G*
Digby noted and congratulated Marcy on the award.
Happy to donate Jane! Marcy teh Marvel!
Marcy’s gonna starting dropping the bomb on the crooks in no time!
Speaking of which, just saw this hysterical game. Check it out if ya got a moment:

You get to move Sayrah Paylin around to deflect Putin’s bombs from hitting any snowmachines. Don’t forget to catch some six-packs for energy!
Jane,
Having been a lurker from the earliest days it amazes me what you have put together. Please know that in our household you and crew are considered treasures.
cream rises to the top, even when shaken.
a thoroughbred doesn’t have to be told it is a thoroughbred, it just runs.
cream-covered horses and pups at this place.
it’s nice to get recognition for goals that at one time were so illusory and hard-fought..and to have even more evidence that it’s not all for nothing, even though you would do it anyway.
congratulations and thanks for everything you offer to us, jane.
YOU 2 gals are de best!!!Christy too…my critters and i donated ,though we use all available cash for critter vittles and rescue, but we think your work is extremely important…keep on keeping on
Total stiff arm!
Everything was small dollar donor. You guys did it, rich donors = $0. They’re all giving to this, an organization that refused to help Marcy when I asked:

Started at the same time our Marcy push did. In light of which, all I can say is this made me laugh my ass of last night:

I just laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh every time I look at that.
Jane, years ago, a lot of people (myself included) were encouraging you to go with the “Times Select” model. You, however, insisted on “open commenting.” You made the right choice, back when it was not as clear as it is today.
Your business model works, because you provide value.
Readers trust FDL’s “conscience,” because you have a HISTORY of pulling back the layers of deceipt and make complex issues ACCESSIBLE. That’s led to a lot of pissed-off blue dogs.
It’s also led to a growing and very decentralized
subscriberdonor base, plus some income from advertising. It’s no surprise that a few of the deeper pockets are taking notice.Your brand discipline has been exceptional.
I remember when Jane and Christie took over the blog that became firedoglake. They took what was sometimes interesting and, by the power of their personalities, crisp analysis, hard work, and political insight, built the blog into the best of its kind. Both Jane and Christie should get more accolades outside of the firepups than they do. Either one or the other should have her own tv program; it would be the best in terms of real, serious analysis.
Must be some strange forces at work in the universe; it was almost eerie to see Marcy get that award, and then watch (parts of) the Senate Hearing of that Judiciary Subcommittee yesterday.
From the clips and bits that I’ve been able to view, the word ‘timelines‘ seems to be reverberating like a new bass line. Apart from the relief of escaping the circular firing squad b.s. of ‘he said-she said’, it does seem like there really is a thirst for fact-based, well-researched information.
Thanks so much; it’s been wondrous to watch this all unfold.
Beautifully stated.
I remember when I first read Emptywheel. She was doing a series on the Peregrinations of Judith (Miller) for Kos. She was obviously gifted. On the other hand, I thought the book on the Plame Affair could have been a bit more copy-edited. It was too breathless. Just talking about the rhetoric, not the facts. A great day for Marcy, and for all of us to be proud for her.
amen! I challenge anyone to find me TradMed reporting comparable to Jane’s coverage on cramdowns in both houses of Congress
I have written my ’sunday best’ letters to CJR/Pulitzer urging them to examine just the unbelievable quality of explanatory reporting alone that goes on here
Clarify, please, if you will…..the rich people you contacted give to this newdeal2.0 thingie or the newdeal people wouldn’t help or both? Whichever, twits all they are.
Have a mental picture of the furry children sitting and cocking their heads while Momma Jane is ROTFLHAO. *G*
Lisa Derrick has a new post up for our perusal: “Actors Make Employee Free Choice the Star”
We were all afraid it would get too weedy, and too long. The concern was to keep it “accessible.” IIRC, it was seen as a tool to reach a broader audience than her blog posts. It was written at a time before Madame Speaker had taken impeachment “off the table.”
Marcy also had to knock it out before the Libby trial started. How she met that deadline, while she was holding down her paying gig, and while continuing to blog; I have no clue.
well, it was all kobe’s idea ya know…
a poodle. beating them all to the door….like dogs do.
it is pretty delicious.
and without the info we know now.
way before we all know what we know now.
yesterday, i wrote to the hillman foundation to please include a mention of her book.
Somebody a while back wanted Jane with Marcy and Christy to do a nightly round-up/update type show. I’m a little broke, but I would pay pennies for that. Would Link TV or one of the other stations perhaps be interested?
Of course Jane, Christy and Marcy may be thinking they already have very full plates and they are not able to take on anymore. But I would spend pennies..
Ooh, blogpulse – I like that. I like that if you add “jail cheney” there’s a definite blip after Marcy’s 183 times – but a second bump more recently.
So let me say this: if Cheney were actually right – and I am speaking hypothetically, of course – and torture had revealed information that saved hundreds of thousands of American lives, that should be reward enough. It should be profoundly satsifying. Life imprisonment can’t be too high a price to pay for that kind of certainty, for the crimes he instigated.
Please, let us jail him for all time. Kristol, Beck and Hannity may joyfully strew petals before the Dick as he makes his way to his cell. I propose that the anniversary his sentencing be called Jail The Dick day, a national holiday, to be celebrated with coast-to-coast repeats of “The Trial of Dick Cheney” and “Judgement at Nuremberg”.
Is Kobe Jane’s only dog? For some reason, I always had the impression she has more than one.
i’m not the jane expert, but katie is another……that’s the only ones i know about. but kobe is the one that is her ‘pr’ liason on flickr.
may even have a box turtle named cornyn….heh.
and a guinea pig named mitt.
and a rat named joe.
lol.
Great comment, thanks.
glad to be a small part of this wonderful operation. very proud of marcy and congrats to her, and kudos to all the firedoglakers.
But wait – there’s more…
What Dick could take immense pride in is that his jail sentence would prove the resilience of the Republic, which is, after all, “an empire of laws, not men.” While Dick is free, the Nation is in dire peril! Justice must be done! The stakes could not be higher! He really should turn himself in, and demand a speedy trail!
