Eureka!
Hey, ES…I glanced up at the clock and saw it is LLN time…how are you tonite?
Good evening all… under a wild storm right now. I may be blogging in the bathtub soon!
“Paranoid Android”: now that raises an interesting philosophical question…can an android have fears, or any feelings? My dictionary defines android as an automaton, which it defines as a robot…just what is an android, anyway?
Vandaveer – very Dutch coffee house. Nice find.
Hi guys! I just got home from choir practice. Sang my little heart out. Even found some of the right notes. Good to see all your humble little hearts.
Nothing humble, but hi demi.
I was on a street in this boutique downtown a few days ago. There was a choir. And they were singing sort of, but actually it was like melodic breathy humming. It was weird and cool and I have no idea what it was called. I have heard something like it in the background of music, can’t quite put my finger on it.
He wasn’t far off. That performance was in France.
Let’s ask Lindsey. /s
“what is an android, anyway?”
Robot made like a person? Male anyway. Nobody ever writes about gynoids, or do they?
Leave Cindy McCain Alone!
Graham?
You’re looking in the wrong book. Forget the dictionary, find Douglas Adams
Marvin!
how depressing…
Hmmm. Interesting. There is something unique about singing with a bunch of other people. Different. You’ve got to have a strong voice, but also be able to control it, so as to blend together. Me, I guess playing the flute for so many years, I have that diaphragm development. Thank Gawd I’ve got some muscle control. Ha.
It’s great to let go and be part of something larger. :)
…and whatever you do, do NOT look directly into her eyes.
I was going to link to a Google image, but that would sort of defeat the purpose of my warning…
I wonder if darkblack has done Cindy. db, are you out there?
Nasal chorus. That was it.
yes.
That doesn’t sound very appealing, actually. But, how was the boutique?
The blending bit is the most interesting and challenging. Granted, i did it pretty early on. Almost instinctive for me to do so by the time i was out of high school, and had 6 solid years of choir (and some formal voice training) under my belt.
If you aren’t used to doing it, it’s hard to do. But definitely fun, to join your voice with so many others. I was happy i had that odd blend of talents that made me a strong choral singer, and soloist every now and then. I don’t have the range i had in high school anymore from lack of practice, but i still enjoy music to the hilt whether i sing or not. Granted, my voice training comes in handy as a DJ. :D I seldom lose my voice thanks to that.
Oh, sorry. It’s a town called Los Altos, and the entire downtown is a boutique. It is like Barneys and FAO Schwartz in a row, but outside.
Gawdy as Hell.
I was there as part of the help for a client with a ‘parlour’ of sorts.
Ow-w!
Now we know why Senator McCheese was so casual about raffling her off to the bikers last year.
I sang in high school too. Many moons ago.
There is a time for blending and a time for soloing. I do both. Singing with my sissy all our lives has kept that blending thing going. And, I do music with my husband too, so, I’ve had the opportunity to keep that up. I love music.
So sixty senators voted against limiting credit card interest rates to 15% today.
Look at all those Democrats. That is just despair-inducing.
I’ve lived through times wherein I really enjoyed the boutique life style. Now, I’m more of a thrift store girl. They each have their appeal.
I’m amazed it made it to the floor for a vote.
I’m a cash and carry kind of gal these days. So, I’m just watching all the credit card debt folks who are stuck with that shit and shake my head.
I do too. i’ve just ended up using my talents a different way. Especially since i pretty much figured out very early that my chances of making it in the US music industry? Were nil. So i looked into the technical side of things, and also had the interest in internet radio. Which eventually led to my part in the station i DJ with in my spare time, when i’m not working pharmacy.
I’ll eventually get the sound engineer/producer/music tech training, but for now i’m absolutely loving being an active presenter with an audience very open to the way i experiment with the music i find everywhere.
Me too. I was thinking today.. poverty isn’t all that bad as long as I don’t spend time around all the old places I like to spend money.
If i have to put my wallet in my pocket more than two days a month.. it’s unusual.
alias – how you doing?
I like the Brad Melhdau Trio piece very much. How did you happen on this? Serendipity?
Nice. Very cool. It’s a good thing to be adaptable to the situation at hand.
I wonder how a bill that redefines whatever financial industry lobbyists do to buy 60 senators as bribery would fare? ;P
Hey FirePups! it must be great to be a Progressive in the Age of Obama, with a President putting your Values in action on the world stage!
you can be proud of your small efforts to put him in power, you can even feel the tingle from your slight share of responsibility for his actions as President.
http://firedoglake.com/2009/05…..more-39765
only 25 commenters, maybe most of you skipped that one?
anyway, its still on my mind tonight, but it pales in comparison to the all important Supreme Court appointment Obama gets to make. Lets hope his choice is not too ‘divisive’!
Look to the Future, Together!
Feeling better than i did monday night, and this morning. i ended up visiting the ER at about 4am because my asthma (another reason why i don’t sing as much) decided it hated me so much i couldn’t control it with my emergency inhaler. I think it was all of last weeks extreme stress on top of the local pollen count exploding. I had 100% oxygen intake (but still constricted lungs), and i think that is in part from my trained breathing from my choir years. I’ve rarely had it below 99%.
Going back to work has helped me move on a little though. Get back into life a bit. Even with this happening. I had to call in, but i’m going in for half a shift tomorrow afternoon to make up for it.
It’s amazing how little we can get away spending. Kids are (for the most part) gone and I have very few things I need. A little food, some books. I’m very creative with making due. It’s challenging and it’s fun. Really. No complaints. When I go out, I usually leave my purse in the car, under a sweater. It’s nice not to Need.
Soooooo, you were just strolling by and decided that this thread wasn’t cheerful enough?
Thanks Margot.. I read a piece somewhere… Pat Metheney, who I love, was speaking highly of Brad.. So I started doing a little digging.
Girl, you have a bunch of things going on. Asthma, that other thing, your family, your work – are you getting any headspace?
Hey, all. I’ve got something on my mind tonight. I’ve been listening to the TV out of one ear as I read endless political/social stuff on the computer. I started to realize that Corporate is using songs of the social 60’s revolution as a very definite theme. Some of the very songs that made the Love-ins, Be-ins, anti-war conflicts in public spaces come to mind for the person who was there.
As my 18 year old said,” It’s totally 1984″. Take over and subvert the experience. Having just read the book. Which creeped him out even more than constant military crap in the mail. Oh, yeah, I’m an alternative homeschooler. We’re not ALL Paultards! Or Christian militia! A tiny few of us are Socialists. But we bear the stain………………
I think there’s a re-imaging of the 60’s-70″s going on.
Hey sporkovat… someday soon the new wax job will wear off. I hope!
Don’t look at me. *g*
LOL! Sing it, demi!
Yeah. i get sunday off coming up. I plan to enjoy watching a few silly things just for myself. I was supposed to get thursday off, and i’m used to the asthma issues. It’s been the first time in a solid year its been out of control like that.
Detox time is generally on my days off as it is. I’m a loner by nature, and if i don’t my time away from the crush of humanity periodically i go crazy. Today’s been a day of enforced rest, obviously. It felt good to do nothing, even with the breathing still being a bit off. But my mind always goes a mile a minute even when i’m relaxing, and i’m checking half a dozen of my regular haunts online.
Ha! Glad you got that. I think I’ll take my pollyanna party pants to the sack and read a bit.
Something notabouttorture and notabouthowfucked everything is.
Peace, simplicity and ohhhhmmmmm to all.
?
just sayin! Progressives should have alot to be cheerful about, no? Your man is in power, you get to bask in his reflected glories! and maybe a little bit of reflected other stuff, but thats not my fault.
I have noticed songs of my youth in commercials but I’m usually reading stuff on the computer, so I don’t actively listen. I will now.
Good for your son. I’ve got a son that age and we get so much mail from the various services. Phone calls, too.
somebody needs a breath mint
on another note, nite demi
Hey bud, make your point, but don’t be using a brush bigger than you can handle. I never voted for him.
‘night demi!
Wudda you think – Paul? Nader? LaRouche? Pat Paulson? Shirley Chisolm?
Wow.. some of the storm winds here are hitting 70 mph.
Newton and Alias and ES
(singing) Goodnight, sweethearts, well, it’s time to go.
Tomorrow’s another chance, right?
For now.. I think I will keep pleading with the folks we have.
Prosecute all who participated in torture.
No public health care if it means law will force me to buy private insurance.
Get the hell ot of all our occupations yesterday.
Don’t touch social security.
and so on.
If the current situation is any indication, my best guess, by 2012, i will be voting green or socialist for president.
indeed it is.. rest well, demi.
k, if the shoe does not fit, do not wear it, sorry..
heading out pups. sleep well you guys
nice rendition [sic] by Meldhau, but for some true musical angst check out the Radiohead original (video not theirs).
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Eureka Springs and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Keep the red flags flyin’ kids and make sure the bastards stay outta yer yard!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS WAR BELONGS TO US, WE PAID FOR IT AND WE MUST END IT!!
Thanks for that.. Intended to google it all evening.
Check it out, I know fashion has it’s cycles but I smell Media Enhancement going on.
The worst thing I’m experienced about recruiting in our communities is the pull the propaganda has for our strong, young people. There is NO balanced information for these young people. It’s like Disney World….you get LOTS of money and college and all kinds of cool things that will prepare you for life, forever. And there’s a chance that you can do some good…. Where are all the parents who hauled these kids to soccer, swim, ballet, gymnastics, music, etc?
Why are they choosing to drop the ball on current events? Because there’s no Current Events teacher and if you gave a shit enough to use links in public schools you’d get “red flagged” by Verizon, ATT, Microsoft[?], etc.
FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good evening Norske.. Had four deer in my yard this afternoon. Figure I must be doing something right.
re healthcare – ralphbon went to dc and wrote a great diary: Return of the Baucus Thirteen
Whoops, meant to respond to Margot@49.
use links in public schools you’d get “red flagged” by Verizon, ATT, Microsoft[
Seriously? maybe that’s why the NYT and WAPO are so averse to such behavior. /s
Hi selise, thanks! Open Left has a disappointing post up.. cheering for “public” plans.
Citizen Eureka Springs:
I hate to burst yer bubble but for us folks in western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities, havin deer in the yard is neither a welcome sursprise nor an event to be celebrated at this time of year (perenials and such don’tcha know)…but if yer in the mountains and are sharin’ all the flora and fauna with the wild creatures, well then it’s a Spring treat…so enjoy.
Yep…yep…yep…yep…yep…yep
6 points
Who took Linday Grahams Teddy from him…the tantrum today. Bushco is wheelin and dealin and Barack Obama is collecting political capital
THe winds are followed by power outage…got a generator?
I am way out in the woods.. it’s rare they come in my yard.. in the middle of the day anyhow. They are generally to wild and have far to many miles of undisturbed area around.
We have had so much rain lately.. some friends of mine traveled 50 miles in 14 hours on a canoe last week. So I guess the deer are roaming different ground.
Yahhh, why rock the boat when dumbed down lazy is easy and profitable.
Maybe even with hookers? And fancy parties?
Speaking of whores and education, I would love to see a timeline on No Child Left Behind and Neal and Old Barbara’s investment portfolio.
They ran the same scam on Education that thy did with Savings and Loans when I was newly married in Denver,Co. Hub of scam. Texans may have a different view of “hub”. But by then, we were so fuck Texas in Colorado.
Marcy sure hammered each of the witnesses this evening. At some point they are bound too just meltdown once and for all.
The next round of photos sure would have helped.
No generator.. just roll with it..)
when did the so-called “public option” even become an issue? i don’t recall it being something hcan was pushing from the beginning. maybe something to distract us from the failure of the ma model for reform? (which is what the pro-insurance industry reformists have been using as their model)
frankly, this whole thing strikes me as nothing more than congressional kabuki for a predetermined capitulation. anyone who is serious about healthcare reform from a progressive perspective would be in favor of single payer being part of the discussion. the blogosphere crickets about the single payer protests in response to exclusion from the hearings, etc reminds me of the crickets in the msm re anti-war protests. so depressing.
a craptastic “public option” that advocates can’t even explain is no substitute for discussing single payer. rather, imo, it is the shiny object which is supposed to distract us from the single payer protests.
Citizen Eureka Springs:
“So I guess the deer are roaming different ground.” Ya THINK???!!
You are watchin a microcosim of natrure’s response to our fuckin with the climate…so enjoy it as long as the rain is not followed by another year of drought and real estate developers.
My son and I are gunna be out in God’s country on the Lake of the Woods the first week in June…we’re gunna be able ta get ta some “wilderness” but we’re gunna hafta go 45 miles up into Canada ta to it…sounds like you got a little bit of heaven right in yer livingroom….enjoy!
graham’s tantrum was so over the top, even by his own very low standards, that i had to think he was filibustering.
there were some good moments in that hearing (not from graham though which i hope goes without saying)
going fishing, norske?
Keep saying it, selise. I was amazed how little info Bowers or anyone else seemed to have, yet they are almost all cheering for it (for Schumer!). And as a Mass resident, your words carry extra weight, imo.
I hear you!
Citizen Selise:
We’re gunna go out and chase the wiley Walleyed Pike and toss a few spinners and plugs at the Northerns and Muskies…take a few pictures and forget whatever it is that keeps the world outside the woods goin’…and we MIGHT come back (LOL).
I missed Graham’s tantrum. Anybody got a link? Or want to give me a brief synopsis?
Edit: make that “Gwaaaahhhhaaammmm”….
Citizen Norske, I’m way out here in the boonies, struggling to pay off my retirement home (only home) before my 45th birthday. May have to lock it up and abandon it for the next 15 or 20 years in order ta make a living, but I want to know it’s here in case all else falls apart.
Got the recession blues. Zombie Banks to pay for while they skin us with their interest and fees. We got ju ju eyeballs. We got torture tales. We got crooks running the world. We got poor foks, homeless folks, bankrupt folks. We got foreclosed folks. We got the head of the TARP telling us we are being lied to by Treasury and Fed. Creeps own the Fourth Estate. George Orwell seems on target…the oligarchy is in your face and rampimg up.
Our president says we have to protect torturers..what the fuck is wrong with this … we just elected Jis comment will be “well I won”! How many in the WH have pledged allegiance to Isreal ala Isreali citizenship? Conflicts everywhere. He is in the harness allright…headin down the wrong road…amd he is going to pick some Supreme Court Justices…wil they approve torture too? This is really scarry. Two maybe three wars?
This might be it.
it’s not just me – here’s the link to the report from pnhp and public citizen on the ma reform: Massachusetts is no model for national health care reform
costs too much.
covers too few people.
puts unfair burdens on people who can’t afford the required premiums.
those who are most in need are arguably WORSE off now.
and lots more in the report.
Well, we’re on the other alternative of that ” I want to knowit’s here..”. We moved into a place as renters with the verbal understanding of a “Long term lease”. Whatever that is. But I put in vegetables, raise chickens, and clear more land knowing it’s not my land. Some day the owner may want his land back. But we agree that this growing season is not that time. Period.
But I must admit, a good gypsy is hard to find.
Though I think “renters” with real lives are coming back into vogue.
Obama ought to treat torture related documents, photos, etc., like they were fire. Don’t hide them, get them out in the public… away from him. Same goes for demanding a special prosector.
Anything else is criminal culpability in my book.
Like wars, he’s becoming part of the problem. I used to agree with ian when he would say obama wants to be Reagan… Now I think he wants to be as bad or worse than Nixon.
Citizen ES and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Keep on keepin’ on there ES, you’ll make it! By the way has there been an Edward Teller siting lately? And how about Citizen K8…anyone heard from her lately?
sounds wonderful!
Hi ES! Nice picks tonight music-wise. I remember seeing on Rachel Maddow, a little blurb about Laurie Anderson being NASA’s first Artist-in-residence and here’s an interview with her. So right now I’m listening to “Oh Superman” and the rest on her anthology.
(Perfect music for another insomnia night, and for trying another experiment making lace)
I think you’re right about cultural hijacking, but it’s a version of an old tactic, going back at least to phenomena like the “safe,” white version of rock n’ roll that Pat Boone was used to promote, versus the black and decidedly unsafe Little Richard (or even Elvis, who raised the possibility of a white man going irreversibly native). It’s not always easy to tell the plants from those who are just creating a market for their talents, but sometimes it gets very clear. These days, with such tightly controlled media, would be such times.
Hmm, those storms Eureka Springs is talking about are part of a very long front that seems to be arriving here in eastern Michigan.
They sure are… 800,000 foreclosed homes in the first quarter of this year.
Gotta chill take care folks don’t take any new “financial products” from your friendly local robber bank. Grow your own food and pass the popcorn and watch Bushco sweat…there are a majority of folks that got burned really bad by Bushco Jesse Ventura on Greenwald today no torture no way and no free pass…pass the proecutions…from a Navy Seal who got waterboarde in SERES. It is all so disgusting and disturbing.
Marcy d brought me to the Lake from Emptywheel she deserves a lot more than the prize and some buck. Keep giving to the investigation funds and justice will be along shortly. Tell it like it is.
graham’s tantrum was at the end of the hearing. here are links to the webstreams:

please forgive me for not giving you a timestamp to go to, but i’m afraid if i watch graham again now it will give me nightmares!
drat, this will teach me not to complete my thought before hitting enter.
What I meant to say…For some bizarre reason, your choices tonight made me think of Laurie Anderson, which made me remember that she was Nasa Artist in Residence, and that all was really cool. Thus.
Thank you
–Beard (who is an easily distracted beard, tonight)
Hi beard5, I read about that on twitter recently, but didn’t have time to save the link.

Good night, big brother.
Oh, thank you for the link. I’d lost it in the great computer burp, and couldn’t remember the name of it.
I like Lastfm more than Rhapsody, it’s simpler, and doesn’t make my machine incredibly sluggish.

Well I better turn in myself.
Good night all.
good night es and all
I’m still searching for my link to an online radio station that plays obscure tunes from the 80’s. They’re the only ones that I’ve ever heard play Big Pig and The Bolshoi
There’s nothing like sangin parts, with trio’s or quartet’s . . .
Bluegrass and newgrass and some americana have them vocal stacks, as well as folk music.
Stacking vocals, in 3 or 4 parts is a gift of the the god’s to listen to . .
While choir’s have their own niche, I still melt when I hear 3 and 4 part haromony stacked up.
And when they switch parts IN the song, it’s even more mezmorizing . . . *G*
Nice comments, Demi, thanks for the music info . . . *G*
Good eatin . . . ya hit any of them?
Spot on, well said, and fuck dem bastids . . . yer all over it . . . well put and stamped.
Aaaah, slapstick. I get it. Uh, no wait, I don’t. heh.
That’s not terribly surprising, is it?
“rendition” eh? Yououououou send me… heh
Funny how words can mean so many things. It’s certainly easy to see how legislators need to be careful with words (for their laws to get the intended effects) and how lawyers may try to find other meanings than the one plainly meant.
Now we’re seeing ‘torture’ being ripped apart to try and find meanings plainly different from the one most people imagine.
