Wasn’t that when he was making the hasty return from a visit to a secret site in Poland, at the former USSR base? I believe I’ve read some such in recent days.

Regarding the hypocrisy of the claims that torture works, Mary noted the following points in passing on bmaz’s thread at EW’s place on the death of al-Libi:

Prisoner al-Faruq was captured in June 2002 and subjected to the “sleep deprivation” regime (which we now know comprised many more brutalities that just forced wakefulness);
al-Faruq broke under this regime in early Sept 2002 and “admitted” that he was the top al-Qaeda op in SEAsia [though many thought that was supposed to have been Hambali], and that he was responsible for planning large scale deadly attacks in that region; and yet
al-Faruq apparently never mentioned plans for the Bali attack which took place in Oct 2002, and in which scores of people were killed.

So, exactly how is torture such an effective means of protecting the public, again?

He went under deep cover for about a month to six weeks after 911. Nobody outside his little circle knew where he was. He was hatching all this terrible stuff.

Here’s what the disrespectful Dick Cheney wore to the Auschwitz Memorial a few years back:

http://sonofbillbrasky.files.w.....ocaust.jpg

I’m sure his daughter Liz picked the outfit. She’s just like her dad!

As for the Washington (Gone) Post (al) these days:

Sheer Thomas Hobbes above the fold:

May 7: ‘In Pakistan, ‘Great Rage, Great Fear’ - Refugees Fleeing Swat Valley Tell of Taliban Crimes, Abuses’

May 11: ‘Fear and Worry Pervade Refugee Camps As Pakistanis Flee Assualt on Taliban’ + ‘Terrorist Traffic Via Syria Again Inching Up - Pipeline to Iraq Back in Business After Lull.’

50 Billion USD in Afghanistan next year can buy lots of Phoenix program, even without any critics of the best and brightest; and the Taliban, damn them, are not yet on the Terrorist Watch list. (The original supplemental for Iraq/Afghanistan was 87 billion at the start of the occupation, with only 12 going to Afghanistan.)

Al Kamen is sick, national editor Michael Abramowitz went to the Holocaust museum, the rag is a shadow of itself. As Friedrich Nietzsche once said: ‘if its falling, give it a push….’

Must be nice to the visiting guests and give them all due deference and as much time as their littl’ ol’ hearts desire, don’ya know……….unless they’re dems.

Just got back from picking up a paper; is she gone yet…….or are they gonna let her have the stage for the rest of the morning?

Liz Cheney will be going on a right wing healthcare tour, Jayt. She’ll be explaining to Americans that torture is nutritious!

when is the ”I Heart Torture” tour gonna start playing the bigger, harder-to-please rooms?

Hey Liz, take your act to Rachel’s show!
