concern-troll.thumbnail.pngLast month Richard Cohen actually typed this :

Yet the debate over torture has been infected with silly arguments about utility: whether it works or not. Of course it works — sometimes or rarely, but if a proverbial bomb is ticking, that may just be the one time it works.

Richard Cohen knows silly arguments.

So it is no surprise that two weeks later…

everything [Cheney] says is a lie, including the ands and the thes. Yet I have to wonder whether what he is saying now is the truth — i.e., torture works.

Well, you know what comes next:

The White House has decided to declassify and release a classified 2004 CIA report about the torture program that is reported to have found no proof that torture foiled any terror plots on American soil — directly contradicting Cheney’s claims. The paper cites “allies” of the White House as a source.

Richard Cohen will never notice.

Meanwhile, Cohen can go back to his other self-proclaimed area of expertise, comedy critic. Maybe he can hook up with another classy person in the "village"?

By the end of the night, Christopher Hitchens was of course the last man (barely) standing, and he had some choice words for the evening’s headlining comedian, Wanda Sykes. "The president should be squirming in his seat. Not smiling," he said. "The black dyke got it wrong. No one told her the rules."

Made for each other.
