I was here for the Brat announcement. I am sorry about that, and I kinda have a little perspective, as I lost my cat last Feb. I was surprised at how it took the wind out of me. I feel for you guys.
For us it was devastating. Partly because he turned on a dime. April 1 he was normal Brat, April 2 he was dying. April 11 he was gone.
It’s been a month and we are healing, but I rarely go a day without crying. When you don’t have kids, your animals enjoy a very elevated status but it sure tears you apart when they go.
I had it easier. Kidneys were diagnosed 5 years prior, and she had 4.75 very happy years with some treatment. I was told what to expect, and she decided to stay around for years past the doctors call.
Having just seen Mom in PA in April, we just chatted about big plans to meet at my brother’s new house in Canada, in August. His family bought a house with a porch from which to whale watch, both for vacation and for my brother’s wife to do her business: photography at http://www.lisatysonennis.com/index.html
hey, Suz,
And did hear from the kids: Jack moving to NYC to be with his sweetie in the next month (from Denver).
Great news Ms. CE will be living in Brooklyn working at the Met Costume Institute on a grant this next year…
Hey, Suz, thanks for the map to fdlmoderator…..hope I’ll soon get to be ‘dearie’ again. Mothers’ Day was lovely. The little twin boys are fun and funny and doing great….you’d never know they were preemies. They are as big as their one year older cousin — a little spit-fire girl in Montana. What I’m most thankful and amused by is that my family is as funny and spunky as I always hoped they would be. Much fun.
We put our kitty, Ben, down yesterday. Ron took him in. He was the kitty that showed up at 3 in the morning through the doggie door. He had bad kidneys. He was with us 2 and a half years. Yellow tabby. Little, tiny guy.
Yes, it was good. The Santa Barbara fires settled down a bit and some peace came back to paradise. People will rebuild and eventually the hills will green up again. And maybe someone will actually run herds of goats over the hills all the time…..keep that brush down. (Where is our former presidential brush-cutter when we need him?)
I planted a new flower garden today. I sure was pretty outside. But my creaky self hasn’t exercised much lately and I am sore. This is a good thing. It means I am still alive damn it.
the rhoddys are starting to bloom and there are a lotta plants outside with buds on them – the snowdrops and bluebells are still in bloom but starting to fade, like the dafs did before them. the butterfly bush is about ready to burst out into flower and i think there are a couple of lilacs too. am looking forward to a sunny warm day that i am not achy to do some exploring.
just took token out to save a tree and it is raining – but on the plus side, my peony (single) on the back deck is in full leaf so the buds will be coming along shortly. a solid month later than down at the cabin. being 700 miles north does make a difference :)
Doin’ good. Been fighting the buggies and assorted other problems for more than two months on what passes for a garden. If I plant it, they will come. :-(
Moon is still beautiful…it’s so nice when weather’s good and it’s visible. Couple of big ships sitting off on the horizon waiting to come to harbor. It’s strange to see lights out on the edge of what you know to be water. Some lovely bird song going on in the lots behind the house; guess they’re on an early rise and shine today as well.
at night, i can occasionally see the lights of crab boats on the other side of the spit. their lights backlight the spit as they tend to their crab pots. i can not see the ocean – just the bay and spit but i sure do like seeing the lights out on the pacific.
Bay and spit are just as good….water’s water. :-) Reminds me…..time to throw out the crab pots and see if any of the little suckers have come up out of the muck as the weather’s warmed. Got some bait this past week but went ahead and froze it.
The mother’s day vibes were beautiful today…no hostility could I sense or feel. The weather was mild. The gal at Naked Capitalism has some interesting albeit long post on the economic chrystal ball. Over all belt tightening and back to more sensible living. Calculated had her prognistication.
I pondered the mantle of wisdom that comes with womrnhood.
NY TImes had a couple of interesting pieces Hebert on the plight of the chronically growing unemployed and what they will br facing for some time.
Then a cultural oiece ob Portland that anyone that wants an sffordable interesting and beautiful summer destination can enjoy. Wonderful city for the not elite. Kight rail to Mt. Hood…
I guess we probably need to celebrate mothers every day as do some. Philip Wiley wrote books om American Momism. I am adopted but still appreciate all mothers do…a lot more than they get credit for. But on the other had the maternal instict is a s strong one.
Same here both on the sleep *and* rain. We had a little over five inches this past week…..the downside being it came in two pouring batches which means no good ground soak – just mostly runoff. Hope the guy who farms for me got the planting done before the rain; he was already waiting for some low lying areas to dry up a bit and running late. Most people already have planting long done.
I inherited from a neighbor who moved a “Mongoose” lowrider type bike that I cruise the hood in getting some leg work. A little jogging, gardening, visiting and finishing up the day here after 100 leg presses to keep that metabolism up.
And exercising the brain with book and internetreading. Workin on building reading speed up and reading for content too.
My neighbors son is in juvie for two weeks for violating terms of probation.…13 teen, Dad divorced mom who has a two year old with her new boy friend. Poor guy is such a good kind lovin dad and the two boys went wild…he sticks with em not getting bucked off. Some moms don’t have that maternalinstinct so much. her teen age duaghter moved in when they got a house to rent…been raisin the two year old on a vacant lot they are camping on.
Speaking of bike riding…..think I’ll go pedal a bit and listen to the birds wake up; likely some deer out soon having an early breakfast. Y’all have a good day!
Raining too hard Sat to check out the farmers market. Supposed to be high strawberry season, doubt this rain is helpful now.
Years ago had local crab picked at Salter Path. Best ever. Recently saw something indicating crab there was now shipped in from foreign parts. Related to labor and gasoline costs iirc :-(
There are still several fish markets that carry local seafood depending on the season. Soft shell crabs have been available at one of them recently….they have several tanks so they can control and know when they sluff off and freeze any excess for later sale. I don’t eat crab in restaurants – only what I catch myself. Also usually only eat shrimp I know to be locally caught.
Have been fighting aphids on the pansies and have gone ahead and ditched most of them. Had lettuce and spinach in pots but it has reached the bolt/bitter stage. No luck with trying snow peas in pots on the deck….likely they need more dirt depth. Trying a few potatoes for the first time and battling the forkin’ cut worms and slugs on them. Have maybe half-dozen varieties of tomatoes in large pots; hope they have enough soil as well. Trying some squash and pumpkins in pots….will see how that works out. The year I put squash in ground the borers ruined them. Like I said, if I plant it the bugs and other diseases will find them.
My white pansy pots didn’t do well.. Each time they started to thrive, weird weather got them. Now they’re bolting, so that’s it for the season other than herbs and a green leaf lettuce pot that appears to have about a week left. Gave up on tomatoes some time back – heartbreakers for me and I’ve got great farm sources.
I’m greatly impressed you catch and pick crabs. Luck to you!
Back to my book – 1934 brit mystery, a true period piece.
This year is it for me on the tomatoes; if they don’t do well, I’ll not try anymore. Love the idea of the variety that are available (if you buy plants/seeds someplace other than a Lowe’s/WallyWorld) but having to buy soil and compost, etc. that go along with the activity make the “grow ‘em yourself” a *very* expensive proposition. Planning to keep an eye out wrt the local markets this year to see what tomato varieties they’re growing. Am desperately trying to keep the potatoes going because there is absolutely *nothing* better than “new” potatoes straight out of the ground.
*dipping toe in lake to see if the water is warm enough*

hey nahant
Aw shit “Happy Mother’s Day” Ladies!!
Suz! Floyd sorta!

hey newton – how’s the bay area? sorta kinda floyd is better than no floyd at all yanno
Warm, no complaints. And same with the Floyd.
Although it’s a little tricky having a lead play it right out of David Gilmour’s book. Still good.
grew cloudy here this afternoon – rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow and then off and on all week with cloudy skies.
Hey y’all. Charlie’s ranting again.
Those people are veryy scary. They’re the kind of people who spawn Eric Robert Rudolph and Paul Hill.
that guy – how you been?
hey that guy – yup, exactly the same
Newt, we lost our kitty Brat. We’ve been grieving pretty hard.
Still outa work. Glad there are UI extensions or I’d be shitting bricks about now. How ’bout you?
evening suz and pups.
Been reading Politico tonight -
bad idea.
I was here for the Brat announcement. I am sorry about that, and I kinda have a little perspective, as I lost my cat last Feb. I was surprised at how it took the wind out of me. I feel for you guys.
And by the way, nice memorial.

how was everyones mother’s day

Heh, I haven’t spoken to my mother in eight years, my father in 30, my sister in more than 10.
My family is chosen, not biological.
I had it easier. Kidneys were diagnosed 5 years prior, and she had 4.75 very happy years with some treatment. I was told what to expect, and she decided to stay around for years past the doctors call.
Hi Sunny, Nahant, Suz, Newton, everyone.
That Guy, I feel for you. Similar thing happened last summer to our household.
hey margot
My condolences That Guy, the little shits are just like childrens.
GET THE FUCK DOWN!
GET OUT OF THE GARBAGE!!
No, YOU CAN”T HAVE A TREAT!
Jaysus Tits, who left this giant hairball behind the couch?
Yeah, just like having kids but ya love them, I know I do.
Best wishes and Happy Mothers Day to all the Lady pups.
XO,
Busted
hey busted
GThud my dear and Happy Mothers Day.

hey christine e
wow, her recent work in portfolios is awesome – very ethereal
evening margot
Thanks Margot. It’s been rough.
hey, Suz,
And did hear from the kids: Jack moving to NYC to be with his sweetie in the next month (from Denver).
Great news Ms. CE will be living in Brooklyn working at the Met Costume Institute on a grant this next year…
woohoo – such good news ce – you had been so worried about ms ce.
hey chris, breathing again? great news
{{{Christine}}}
Happy Mother’s Day ! Where in Canada are you coming to ?
hey petro
Yes! Thanks Suzanne, we are so relieved!
Missing my mom… she was practically perfect (chanelling Mary Poppins).
Yes, breathing again — Jim and I are so happy for her. Thanks newt!
Hiya Suz !
Did I tell you that Roger Waters performed in Bangalore last year to a packed house ?
Who knew that he had so many fans over there ?
since losing my dad, father’s day is poignant
no you didn’t – and how cool!
New Brunswick, Welshpool, Canada — near Maine? It will be a first for Mr.CE and me to find…
Chris, great news about your daughter.
Love the architectural photos..
Me too, Suz ! But I have my two Darlings who hug and kiss me all day (they do this every day, actually) and that makes up for the great loss.
gonna rent an rv and drive all over? (sorry, that is my fantasy trip)
What a wonderful thought if my children ever loved me like that — near perfect.
The East Coast is beautiful. Prince Edward Island has some great Seafood Restaurants to rival New England.
Those Photos are breathtaking !
Unfortunately, it will be break to be there (two days?) a week doing NOTHING, and a frantic break home. Damn, I hate having to work for a living…
Fantasy cooking — seafood everynight, lobster and salads…what a lovely thought.
Good night to all, and my best to parents of all living things.
g’nite christine e
… under the moonlight, on a beach, near a bonfire with great Wine and Friends … you mean that fantasy ? *g*
G’nite CE !
Glad to hear the good news, Chris!
nite chris

oh no (((mary mcc)))
We are kittyless. I realized that for the first time in 55 years I am living without a kitty in the house.
Ben
That’s terrible.
We’re the cat-bereavement page tonight, what with ThatGuy having lost his buddy.
what beautiful markings he had. i’m so sorry
He looked like a real tiger. Very primitive. The vet said he was part abyssinian. We just lost our twenty year old kitty, Ariel, a month or so ago.
MMC, he was a pretty kitty and apparently much loved. Nice. Lucky kitty.
it sure has been a rough fucking year
I am sure another kitty will walk into our lives soon. They just show up.
tis true that cat’s choose us, not the other way around
I planted a new flower garden today. I sure was pretty outside. But my creaky self hasn’t exercised much lately and I am sore. This is a good thing. It means I am still alive damn it.
So I am going to bed to dream of Ben and Ariel in cat heaven and my new flower garden.
Goodnight peeps.

Up early or late night?
Bay and spit are just as good….water’s water. :-) Reminds me…..time to throw out the crab pots and see if any of the little suckers have come up out of the muck as the weather’s warmed. Got some bait this past week but went ahead and froze it.
Hey Waccamaw! Thunderstorms galore for the last week here.
Early. Fell asleep reading. Awoke just in time to enjoy Suz’s magnificent hospitality.

Have a great week…talk to you later.

time for me to head out myself. g’nite pups, and thanks for letting me spend some time with you tonight.
