Ah David Broder, please try to come up with sad analogies in eulogizing Jack Kemp:
Eric Cantor, the young Virginian who may come closest to Kemp’s level of intellectual ambition and political energy in the current Congress, played host at the first of a promised series of policy sessions, along with former governors Jeb Bush of Florida and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.
That listening tour thing at the suburban pizza joint he’s already abandoned?
Yeah, good show of ambition there, caving to Rush Limbaugh. And speaking of such…

I literally couldn’t make it through BroderGuard’s excretion. It’s just the same shit every single time…for years (note the classic sentence fragment “not that I agree with that” schtick he always does). The Can’tor praise was the least of the problems with it. Kemp was one of the loudest and longest supporters of the most disastrous economic policies of our times, and these policies can easily be traced to our current woes. No matter to Davey!
And the WaPoo wonders why they’re losing audience. Put this cow out to pasture…yeesh…

Mr. Kristof, in “Girls on Our Streets,” says prostitution in America isn’t as brutal as it is in other countries, but it is still appalling — and will continue until there is an interest in saving 14-year-old girls pimped on the streets.

Say what you will about Kemp. I didn’t like te guy but i think he was at least had some concern about the less fortunate and people in urban areas. He was wedded to a stupid “free-market” solution to the problems but I think he at least was interested. I think he really believed thnat crap would help them. I also think he at least advocated for addressing the problems of the less fortunate, albeit with a screwed up approach. Maybe after all this time I’m taking an idealized view of Kemp becauas he just died. But Cantor and his ilk just don’t give a damn. There are no jack Kemps in the GOP today.
I haven’t seen or heard anything that warrants ‘Cantor’ & ‘intellectual’ being used together in the same sentence.

Kemp was responsible for building a subway in Buffalo. It started from just about where I grew up & ended at City Hall, where my mother worked. It never took her longer than 20 minutes by bus to get to work. The subway was a complete waste of however many billions it cost, and no one ever goes to downtown Buffalo before or after it was built. The man was a moron. Requiem in pacem, and thank the lord he’s no longer with us.

Kemp proudly preached Reaganomics, and vilified those who disagreed with it, even though it’s always been clear what these policies would lead to. Jackboot liked to create this image of caring for the shat-upon classes and “minorities,” but I wonder how much he cared when he was spewing the “welfare queen driving the cadillac” (i.e. Black women) fairy tale in order to justify his beliefs.
Great, he softened his stance on some issues (like abortion rights), of course only when it effected him personally, like Repubs do, and wasn’t AS BAD as the Limpbaugh-wing. Big whoop. Hardly some brave soul worthy of Broder-like fawning.

At the rate they’re going, Obama will win re-election with over 60% of the vote, as long as he doesn’t get caught doing something unsavory with interns or farm animals.
The economy will be better in 2010, and most of the credit for that will go to Democrats, which will be reflected by still more gains in the House and Senate.
Independents are the key, and as long as the GOP continues to follow Rush into the wilderness, independents will continue to stay away from them in droves.
