Well, if nothing else the Arlen Specter crossing-over has made the Republicans even more insular and the Democrats slightly more dickish. But at least it gave Olympia Snowe a chance to tepidly vent…
"…we are heading to having the smallest political tent in history for any political party the way things are unfolding.”
Well, if you’re going to be the Party of Limbaugh, you’re going to pitch a very small tent.
And the purges are not over yet.
The RNC members are getting angry at Michael Steele because he doesn’t call Obama a Socialist enough.
But don’t worry conservatives, Steele has a Five-Year Plan.

Arlen Yezhof was dragged off the stage, vowing to die with Reagan’s name on his lips.
Arlen said he was “not prepared to have my 29-year record in the United States Senate decided by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate”. The solution is obviously to beat him with Clubs for Growth, to make him ready to face his fate.
Wow, the commies had photoshop!
What a huge mistake.
Let spector stay part of the war crimes party or run independent or start a duel citizen party with joe.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Attaturk and the Firepup Patriots:
There are a few spots on the blogosphere that are tryin’ ta organize some muscle to convince Joe Sestak to primary Arlen Skelletor…I think that threats like that ken keep the slimey bastard on the ranch if only to vote cloture if not support the underlyin’ bills (like EFCA). I am gettin’ real worried about the growth of the Democratic majority…shear force of gravity is gunna grow the “Blue Dog” tails…I would rather have 56-58 solid progressives and a real majority leader than 62-64 Dems with 8-10 Joe Likudermen.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE FUCKIN AMMUNITION, THE WEAKER THEY ARE THE MORE DANGEROUS THEY ARE!!!
The 21st century GOP has the stupefying ability to believe a dozen impossible things before breakfast.
56 -58 solid progressives? Pass the bong big dude.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd and Friedman today. MoDo, in “Vice’s Secret Vices,” says Dick Cheney, our former vice president, continues his 24/7 tour justifying the enhanced interrogation techniques of high value detainees. “Enhanced interrogation techniques” is the weasel words term for torture, MoDo. Try using the proper term next time, although when you’re shoveling out fever dream fiction I suppose it doesn’t much matter. The Moustache of Wisdom gives us “A Tortuous Compromise,” in which he says though the president’s decision to expose but not prosecute those responsible for torture is surely unsatisfying, it is the best solution for right now. Right. Sure. Let’s let the Europeans indict them for war crimes. Putz.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins hot out of the toaster. Reading that nonsense has made me cross, so I’m going to get another cup of tea and talk to the cat. Have a great day.
I’m surprised Michael Steele’s weekend plan isn’t to change the republican party’s name to the “Democratic Party”.
Obi is getting his bi part support and the dems blend into repukes.
Haggis should be primaried. We need a real ground swell from the PA progressives and send him into retirement. Arlen is a weasel.
Morning all;
Michael Steele ha ordered a new tent for the rethug party
http://www.toysrus.com/product…..Id=2264919
They’ll prefer this one, Mike — it’s got tubes on each side to extrude and nip off heretics:

Obi finally met with the progressive caucus the largest one in congress. Lovely that he waited till he met with the others first.
Change we used to believe in.
Beg to differ, but Rush’s tent size is 2XL.
Congratulations, Dems.
Now we have two Liebermans, with Dr. Germ auditioning to become a third.
Citizen Raven:
Yeah, yer right…but I look back now at the late 60’s and early 70’s and the “moderates” then look like ragin’ Bolsheviks now and even the crypto-Nazi party had “liberals” like Percy and Lindsey and Rockefeller…today the voters are further left than they were back in the day but the elected leadership is back in the 19th century…God am I old!! Time ta go home and walk the pups and listen ta the birds tryin’ ta figure out jest what the fuck is goin’ on.
…. and that guy Obama. Probably bowed to Spectre. Betcha.
Couldn’t sleep last nite and got to aswitch between the reruns of Hardballz and Hannity. The consensus on Spectre from Hannity and his “All American panel” (he really calls it that) which included All-American Mark Furman ? Good riddance. “We want real conservatives. People with principles.” As an example, he gave Ronald Reagan. You see, he switched parties out of principle, not political expediency. Got it? I dunno, for people who are happy to see Spectre go, they seemed pretty pissed.
Obama, Biden and Specter are suppossed to do a presser in a few minutes. Bet they do a terrorist fist bump
Does PA have closed primaries? they do, right?
you took the words right out of my mouth but let’s not stop there, there are two people mostly responsible for the fall of the republican party, rush is only one of them, the other person is his twin, kkkarl rove
Yes it is closed
Has Spectre ever produced his original birth certificate?
Yup. Pudgy and Wudgy.
rove instructed them to obstruct the democrats, the public is on to them and that puppy doesn’t bark
if they wanted to remain in power they should have known contribution is better then retribution
karl and rove aren’t the puppet masters though, they’re marionettes just like bush and cheney
I believe both of their strings being pulled by kock industries I might add
But ya see, I’ve never subscribed to the idea that the Republicans are now destined to be a minority party for the forseeable future. Why? Well, for one thing, the Democrats are, as Turk so eloquently says, dickish. You can’t keep Spectre from changing parties, but they don’t have to fawn over the guy and pretend he’s one of them. And Peerless Leader Harry Reid is rolling out the red carpet. EFCA? Oh. That. Some other time, maybe.
The people they’ve chosen as spokespeople are inarticulate loons. But then again, who else do they have?
From the LA Times:
Matthews had a bit on the BachmanWatch website or wahatever it’s called. he’s really proud that she made her maiden national appearance as a shit-for-brains on his show. He ran the tape of her appearance last October where she said Obama and others in Congress were anti-American. He can’t get enough of her.
Good for him.
“The future’s uncertain
and the end is always near
let it roll baby roll”
roadhouse blues
I’m going to go out on a limb and say the following is the republican ‘big tent’:
http://www.clker.com/cliparts/…..svg.hi.png
Just big enough for a few to get under! LOL
That’s not very good in the wind.
Well, that explains why the right wing has wet feet! Bah hahahahaha!
they need to reclaim their party beerfart because if the democrats are the only party in town they WILL corrupt themselves just as the republicans did
how to do?
simple
they need to not only throw the neo cons out, they need to throw them under the bus
THEY need to call for investigations, THEY need to prosecute the criminals that destroyed our country for eight years, THEY need to take the lead and make US look like WE don’t want to hold the rule of law
THEY NEED TO TAKE THE LEAD PROSECUTING THE BUSH ADIMINSTATION in it’s entirety
if they did that they would stand a chance and the country would be the far better for it
let’s be clear though, the republicans didn’t choose rush and rove the neo cons did
the republicans didn’t realize they were undergoing a coup and losing their party, if they ever do realize it they can regain some power
Snarlin’ Arlen has turned his back on the people who elected him. If he betrayed his constituents once (twice now), he’ll do it again. The man is not to be trusted. Ben “Switchhorse” Campbell changed parties when I lived in and loved Colorado (still love Colorado). It was disgraceful then and it;s disgraceful now; a purely self promoting (preserving) thing to do. As Molly used to say “You have to dance with the one who brung you”.
Yeah, crumbs for the lefties for so long. Now they are up to croutons? Obama seems to have political capital to cherry pick a few “safe” progressive moves … and keeps on skating on the thin iced status quo. Accountability coma still persists. So the corruption has become so systemic, all are compromised in both parties re banksters and torture so let’s not do any reality checking as a country. Let’s just be paralyzed.
Darcy Burner is now working for the Congressional Progressive Caucus in a new foundation to help fight the Blue Dogs. Looking for volunteers. Last Sat. on firedoglake.
So if Republicans migrate to Dem Party … progressive recovery gets diluted all the more. The wingnuts who are left in Repub party distract from a country in code blue.
Big Wall St. daddies and Daddy military … have Obama in their thrall, sadly. He can’t community organize us to a better place when it comes to amoral and immoral which incidentally is also ILLEGAL activity. Need accountability. We are beyond community organizers with the likes of torturers, banksters. Onto prosecutors and probation officers.
Obama, you were not elected to ENABLE the political and corporate classes. You promised change. You promised to restore the common good.
That’s a fair bit of revisionism there.
The marriage of neoconservatives and social-conservatives in the era to elect Reagan was one of intent and purpose.
They knew exactly what they were doing, and both sides thought they were fleecing the other.
Personally, as a Pennsylvanian, I’m not shocked nor am I upset or elated. Specter wants to be re-elected. He knows he can’t run in the general election if he loses in the primary due to PA “sore loser” laws. He found long standing allies in Gov. Rendell and VP Biden who would support and campaign for him in 2010. From a state standpoint, I’d rather continue to have a Senator who still has the seniority that ultimately garners money and economic benefits that come with being higher on the pecking order. Senators with less seniority don’t get the benefits for their states that junior senators get.
re:28 – I heard an interview on the way to work with Rep. Sestak. I agree he’s somewhat puzzled and to a degree somewhat pissed. Directly after that interview Mike Smirconish (Philly talk radio) had Rep. Brady from Philly. Absolute contrast in viewpoints between these 2 Dems. I agree with Rep. Sestak in that Sen. Specter’s nomination as the Dem. candidate should not be assumed. He will be extremely watchful of Sen. Specter and will be more than willing to point out the contradictions in Specter’s rhetoric vs. voting.
re. 36- This was Rep. Brady’s position. He used the “Club for Growth” talking point over and over.
re. 37 – The only people Sen. Specter really turned his back on were the Republican Party. With PA becoming even bluer than in the past, Sen. Specter needed the independant and moderate Dems in order to win in the general election. PA should by all accounts keep 2 Dem. Senators for the foreseeable future. Rick Santorum was an anomaly. He came in under the “Contract for America” banner originally and won re-election on Bush’s coattails. Pat Toomey is Santorum’s clone.
In the long run, this is a good thing for the Dems. Sen. Specter is an avid advocate for healthcare reform and research. What we won’t get from him we wouldn’t have gotten anyway.
Arlen’s defection is just another indicator of the party of one. Tweedledum meet Tweedledee. It’s the one party state Stalin could get behind, to be sure. State-corporativists are welcome. Liberals/Progressives need not apply.
pretzel,
Can’t say I much like your logic.
Specter is now officially the worst Democrat in the Senate. He was almost certain to have been thrown out in the Republican primary process by Toomey, and Toomey almost certainly would have lost to a Democrat who almost certainly would be far better than the worst Democrat in the Senate.
So we get at most two positive years out of Specter as the worst Democrat in the Senate before it turns to nothing but downside.
I wonder if a single critical vote of Specter’s will change because of his switch. Certainly he has said nothing to indicate that it will — on EFCA in particular he has said he won’t change.
And one potential downside is that Specter starts to become a critical vote where he might not otherwise be so — such as health care reform. What if the Democrats now decide they don’t want to go through the “divisive” confrontation that doing health care reform under reconciliation would create — a confrontation Republicans apparently have promised? How much might health care reform have to be compromised to create 60 votes instead of 51?
Indeed, the general problem is that now Democrats will seek to get 60 votes in the Senate on everything they attempt to pass without confrontation, because they now have 60 votes in the Senate. They will seek the “peaceable” solution, however compromised. They could instead, of course, do everything they could to force such “moderates” as Collins and Snowe and Specter (even as a Republican) to do the right thing, and hold them up in their own moderate states as obstructionists if they present resistance. But why should they want to do that when they can instead push out some highly compromised legislative product which they declare victory over, without any tawdry appearance of divisiveness?
The Republicans have a Big Tent, but Rush Limbaugh takes up so much room no one else can fit in.
