I hope they do obstruct as much as they can. It will be the only way we can save this country from outright socialism.
Do not forget what Margaret Thatcher said: “The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
Have you libs thought about what we are going to do once we do run out of money? … and we are on our way to running out of money. Once we are there it will make an excellent segue to communism.

Anyway Re: Kristol - I don’t think I saw the switch of Jeffords as having been particularly significant at the time and I don’t think it’s been significant in retrospect. The Democratic Party was still under the thrall of the DLC, still convinced that being Republican-lite was the way to go. I doubt that Democrats defecting to the Republicans will be a big concern for the next year and a half. More likely, Republicans will just fade away.

It wouldn’t surprise me but I think they’d be wrong. Now that Dean is no longer DNC head the DLC crowd has taken control back. That means support for the ruling class, ignoring all others. Hopefully they’re in for a surprise in 2010 across the country.

fhm @ 59 - When I first heard of the switch I thought maybe he was going to announce his retirement at a time when it would be hard for Dems to field a candidate. Like you, I think his surviving another term may be pretty iffy.
