Hey Suzanne! Hey Firepups,
Just driving by to let you know two things:
1) I love you guys for being so supportive of my diaries and my fight.
2) Today’s torture diary is up at Oxdown:
Why I Fight Against Torture, Part Four.

hey margot
sweet ear candy – thanks mr why
newton, i was looking for his big top hat on the utubes and stumbled across this.
He’s new to me.
Anyone for a spot of tea?
;>)
newton, per the comments over at utube:
hey db
Hey Suz – How’s the quiet hours tonight?
tis 44 outside – good thing my wood guy delivered another half cord today. we have some of your canadian air hunkered down over us.
Couldn’t resist – The Whole Truth
*yawns* i had two crazy days at work in the pharmacy. Now i’m debating on doing a short diary on the two major treatments available for use for Swine Flu. For now i’m quite ready to relax. We did amost 600 scripts in 2 days.
the truth
i bet you are. get some rest and then do that diary alias. we need good info out there to combat this fear flu fear thang being pushed by tradmed.
It’s been snowing here for the past couple of days…I’m somewhat unimpressed by this development, although it does melt quickly. Canada is starting to lose some of its rustic appeal.
;>)
earlier today i heard something about blizzard conditions in montana. they got some snow in eastern oregon. spring has not sprung evenly this year.
I’d much rather be lying in the warm shade with the only ice for miles in my beverage, truth be told. Going to get out of this hole one of these days.
;>)
The flailing of hands by the Media is driving me batty. We’ve been getting calls about it and i’ve been monitoring the progress here from home otherwise. I’m well aware of the risks, more than most with my own conditions to begin with.
I refuse to panic because they say so. Then again, the fact that i don’t panic is probably what makes me a good pharm tech. Sadly, i think i could do a coherent diary in this state. I’m not half as exhausted as i used to be around 6 months ago, which is a good sign.
i do admit to thinking alot more about tropical islands than i did before i moved up here.
excellent – looking forward to reading it alias.
Amazing what an increase in northern latitude will do, eh? At least you didn’t move to Canada – Imagine that, being surrounded by Canadians jabbering at you with their gobbledegook, trying to sell you their handmade trinkets and off-brand maple syrup…
;>)
At the moment i think i’m going to kick back and enjoy the fun of my favorite set of anime pirates in One Piece. XD Epic plots, complex characters and a whole world that’s still being explored in manga. The anime is 398 eps and counting…and i’m rewatching to catch up. I’m on episode 111, i think. Me? Crazy? YES.
By the way, it also contains some very off the wall comedy that is so very japanese but translates well no matter the language. *giggles*
on the other hand, i am enjoying the longer days – not totally dark until a wee bit after 9pm – that was was june was like at the cabin in the redwoods.
I’m north of you. I think about the desert, the endless sky and a river with warm water flowing through. T-shirt weather in the morning and at midnight!!!
you have certainly earned your down time alias. and its only going to get worse as the media hypes it.
hey openhope – how ya doing tonight?
Evening suz, pups.
88 today here. My gorgeous pots of white pansies have gone wilty/leggy..
Was hoping for another month of them.
hey sunny – the apple trees are blooming but am not anywhere near the 80’s.
I are good!! Thanks for asking. Had a great meeting with a social worker preparing for “The Next Stage” with my folks. We are blessed to work with someone who knows us. Who knows my mother as the incredible artist she is. You know, that respect couldn’t have come at a better time. Just to have mom treated as a person in her own right.
Won’t go into detail but I feel SO lucky right now. Should probably buy a lottery ticket?!
oh openhope that is such good news. i know how you were feeling the weight of that burden – having the right social worker is such a blessing.
pie!
and crisps and homemade apple sauce and apple butter.
Great! Buy teh ticket *g*

Heather if you are still here I’d love to talk to you more about your tour. Actually I’d love to talk to anyone about the people who support torture on the right. Specifically on talk radio.
The hosts at KSFO radio have long been pro-torture. As much as I want to have someone on their show confront them about it I know that you can’t win in a conversation with them. However I do like to get people who are talking about torture an opportunity to practice their presentation in the face of right wing “logic”.
If you listen to Brian Sussman at the 7 pm to 8 pm hour (KSFO archive)
from tonight you will hear some of the arguments he uses to support torture. In previous nights he had callers who tried to get him to admit waterboarding was torture.
Right now I’m calling, emailing and posting about the financial support that ProFlowers has for these hosts who are ProTorture. (Spocko’s Brain)
It’s interesting–I have to clearly make the case that I’m not against the discussion of torture and I’m not trying to silence their disgusting views, but I’m trying to help the advertisers protect their brand from being associated with KSFO hosts and their horrific comments. In corporate America it is all about money unless you have a right wing sugar daddy. Since they refuse to be honest or fair with their comments I just go to the advertisers, alert them and give them a choice.
“Do you, Advertiser, want to be part of a group of people who would happily torture suspected terrorists (including their children) or do you choose to spend your ad dollars elsewhere?”
These people are PRO-Torture, I think that advertisers need to understand that when they pay their salaries via their sponsorship.
hey spocko
Wow. I was living in the Haight when the Patty Hearst thing went down. Helicopters, swat snipers, gun fire, a streets barracked off.
That was a lifetime ago.
Not sure we’ve come too far as a country from there. Actually, we’ve back slid on a lot. Except the police state thing. That’s moved forward at a mind boggling under-the-radar pace.
i was living in the richmond district – and my dad was living down noriega from the hibernia bank that was robbed.
Hey Suzanne!
It’s hard to listen to the radio hosts at KSFO in San Francisco talking about waterboarding as a joke. They are quick to redefine it and pretend that what happens in the SERE training is the same as having no consent and control.
Here is KSFO host Lee Rodgers describes waterboarding as nothing more than “dipping testicles in a basin of cool water.” right before he reads a ProFlowers commercials. (audio wma MP3 )
These are the people that Heather needs to talk to.
jon stewart is shredding cliff may tonight on the torture memos! may was claiming they really are anti-torture memos.
i don’t know how you can do it spocko. i can only handle about 30 seconds of hate radio before i start getting pissed off and have to switch it off.
As only Jon would do, he beats May (an impossibly enthusiastic torture apologist) to a bloody mess.
can’t wait for the entire interview to be up on comedy central. first time i’ve seen a black screen saying ‘they go on for several minutes and the interview in its entirety will be available onlline’.
After the Cramer interview it took them hours to get it up. I know. I waited up for a long time.
me too – that had to be one of the most eagerly awaited videos cc has posted.
nodding off – ‘nite all.
katymine!!!
g’nite sunny
i’m doubled up on my (katymine) thoughts – iirc, she was scheduled to have the brain tumors zapped ala star wars today.
I listen to them in fast forward! But I does take a toll.
G’night,all.
Maybe we’ll wake up tomorrow and discover Jay Bybee has resigned.
Sweet dreams.
Yeah.
((((Katymine))))
nite hope. nite sunny
g’nite openhope – that would be a wonderful thing to wake up to.
don’t think the forker is planning on resigning:
I very much appreciated the musical video choice this morning. This was just incredibly good. So good that I signed up for your site just to comment here!
Once some proper lawyers get to go on the record during investigations (if either actually happens), Bybee and his ilk will suffer. It’s really whether DOJ and Obama grow a pair and appoint a Special Prosecutor that will decide.
Fitz!
thank you clarence and welcome to the lake. if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
welcome, ClarenceDarrow.
I’m out. nite suz, nite pups
the fear flu fear scare cycle has damped down the groundswell of cries for investigations. we gotta get it back on top of the news cycle.
g’nite newton
Yup!! Close to pumpkin time for me also! Nitey nite Pups (:>)) see ya all tomorrow if there is NO CALL!!
Welcome Clarence, anything ya want to talk about and one of the Pups will join in on the conversation….
g’nite nahant – fingers and toes crossed ya get that call tonight!
Nite nahant;)
margot, i came across this utube the other day and immediately thought of you
I’ll be doing my part to give what info i can as a pharm tech. I’m not front line like say, a nurse or a doctor. But we’re still the second place where someone sick goes, most of the time. This is why the company gives us free flu shots nowadays. I still need to badger them about covering the pneumonia vaccines besides.
This strain? Is a new variant, but i’m wondering if its similar to what passed through the area last year with nary a squawk from the media. Everybody and their brother(including me) was caught with the vomiting/diarrhea, fever and really bad coughing. Took about 3 days of hell for hte worst of it to pass, then i spent a week after recovering and working very slowly. If i get caught up in this on i’ll be doing the same thing all over again.
lotsa people go to the pharmacy looking for over the counter stuff and advise.
was that the ohio county fair flu?
whoops, never mind alias – that was an august 2007 article and not about last year.
I have no idea of the origin of last year’s strain. Just that it definitely wasn’t one of the three contained in the 2008 flu shot. So of course, even though i was vaccinated–it wasn’t against THAT particular strain. I consider the record pretty good, considering that one time in 5 years now of working. If i get sick again, that’ll make it twice in 5 years. Working with the public has it’s risks, but otherwise i don’t mind it. I’d be completely bored anywhere else.
But yes, we get that almost daily. Colds, flu, head colds from hell…the whole gamut. Only the pharmacist on duty can do recommendations, but we can put in word too if we know something works. We just can’t do the ‘offical’ recommendation because of liability issues. Which is perfectly understandable.
for many people without insurance, the local pharmacy is where they go for help and info. as more and more jobs are eliminated, health care gets eliminated too. you are gonna have a double uptick.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
34 days and a wake-up…I’m gettin’ ta be a short timer…June1 and I will be able ta terrorize you night folks with regularity.
So what have I missed in the last 4 hours, everyone on the night shift still got pulse and blood pressures?
You watch Arlen Skelletor, he will rant and rave against the EFCA and then vote FOR cloture and against the bill…I’m gunna wanna watch the fascists blow their last brain cells on that cloture vote!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, FASCISTS ARE NOT GOOD FOR CHILDREN AND OTHER LIVING THINGS!!
hey norske – eli had a post a couple threads down with specter saying he was against EFCA and there was an update at the buttom that the forker said he was against dawn johnson too. he’s gonna be a leiberman backstabber for the d’s.
looking forward to you joiniing us on a more regular basis norske
Oh indeed. Those without insurance going into the local clinics too, quite often. So we find options for them for scripts so they aren’t totally without help. Quite often it ends up with a back and forth between us and whatever office/clinic they went into. But that’s the best possible way to keep things on track.
yup – iirc, tamiflu isn’t cheap either
time for me to snuggle with token. thanks for letting me spend tonight with ya.
g’nite all.
Tamiflu and Relenza aren’t cheap at all, and it’s very hit or miss (more likely a miss in most cases) on whether an RX policy will cover either one. If they do? They’re still going to take a chunk out of your hide, and if you don’t get it soon enough in the illness? It won’t work well either. That’s the tricky part.
For those without insurance its turned into anti-emetics and cough suppressant combos. The meds for that are generally pretty cheap, and gets patients through the worst of it until they can recover on their own. These are the kind of options that we go back and forth with the local Doctors all the time for. It’s the least we can do for our patients.
‘night Suz. I need to crash too.
