Good morning, Elliot and pups.
On what level does this marriage make any sense? How in the world can you spend your life with someone you profoundly disagree with on issues as important as these?
Presumably Diane will be seated between Joe and Lindsey so that they’ll keep their hands to themselves.
Ha!
Mornin’, gang -
There’s a diary over at the Great Orange One about rick perry asking the CDC for 37,000+ doses of the anti-viral flu meds….just in case.
How’s that withdrawin’ from the Union workin’ for ya, pretty perry?
WJ just had Cheney on a clip. They said it was from Hannity’s show, but that can’t be right…Cheney talked for like 3 full minutes without Sean yelling at him to shut up.
Or is that ORLY? I can’t keep these fuckheads straight.
Morning All. Coming to you live from windy OK. Thanks Elliott for what you do here. Even Fareed Zacharia looks abismal this AM
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Rich today. MoDo, in “Slouching Toward Oblivion,” says old-school newspapers seem like aging silent film stars, stricken to find themselves outmoded by technology. Listen up, cupcake — old-school newspapers may be falling by the wayside because they serve up stenographers, plagiarists and wastes of ink like you. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Moore’s Law and the Law of More,” says without a fixed, durable price on carbon, none of the Obama clean-tech initiatives will have an impact on climate change or make America the leader in the next great industrial revolution. Mr. Kristof says it’s “Time to Come Clean,” and that President Obama worries that a commission to investigate torture and tally its costs would distract from focusing on the economy, but the truth is the opposite. Mr. Rich discusses “The Banality of Bush White House Evil,” and says torture was a tool in the campaign to exploit 9/11 so that fearful Americans would support a war that had nothing to do with Al Qaeda.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast waffles today. The Confederate jasmine is just starting to bloom, so the next week or two should smell like paradise in the yard. Have a great day.
Will be interesting to see if he asks nooners about her nutters comment to “walk on by” during *last* week’s talkin’ heads. Ya’d think when someone proved herself to be that much of an asshole, she’d STFU for a while. :-(
someone tell me how this is possible;
what the HELL does THAT mean?
does that mean I can sell my frigging neighbors house becuase it’s nmot economically reasonable for me to not sell it?
how the HELL can they sell someone elses stock?
THAT comapany needs to go chapter eleven and ALL assets returned to the share holders of those stocks
I’d write a frigging diary I’m going to work and this needs front page attention pronto
Good Morning, Matthews interesting focus on First 100 Days. Then David Brooks opines “big mistake” to open the door about prosecuting torture….
Good. I thought about that when I heard about the swine flu in Texas. I thought Rick might want to delay secession a little bit. I’m glad someone pointed it out.
Yippee! Another scintillating sunday talk show lineup of time wasting BS.
I just don’t see how the MSM keep bringing these pablum spewing people whose only claim to fame is the legend they think they are.
If they had previously bought a great deal of stock in GM they would have every right to sell it.
I have no problem with them selling off employee stocks if they employee owns the results of that sale
if they sold off those stocks and then said to the owners, “you’re out of luck”, that’s what I have a problem with
Good Morning Elliot and Pups.
I love your heron doo Ellie.
Morning!
*stretch*yawn*
pretty wan lineups to be sure.
Have you all seen this David Gregory?
And wow, a chronic debate between Matalin & Carville, now that’s fresh programming.
I’m told he waited around to be photographed. Handsome fellow.
Hi RevBev. Top o’ the mornin’ to ya.
There was something I caught yesterday, just a fleeting glimpse of a headline with David BabblingBrooks supposedly claiming “Prez. Obama seduced me,” or some such nonsense. Did I dream it? At the time, I was bizzy, and not about to open the clip to listen to that nit.
Mr&MzzzzzzCarville on a sunshiney morning? I think I’ll pass.
He’s probably waitin’ for da missus to weave in his last load of big knobby sticks and do a bit of tidying up before delivering more. I wouldn’t stray too close. Imagine the pinch he could give DavidBabble! heh.
Edward Nixon’s up on CSPAN talking the Nixon family
While I have the floor (hallloooooo pups???)
(((((Katymine))))) we send gentle hugs, hon. ;->
State Street’s primary business is its trust business. They manage investment portfolios for individuals and various types of organizations including corporations and non-profit endowments, etc. As such they are buying and selling stock out of those portfolios all of the time.
got it, so the original shareholders of those gm stock benefitted from that sale
that of course I’m fine with so;
nevermind
Good Morning Elliot and Firedogs,
the heron is wearing his nuptial plummage – and to see dozens vying for females in the marsh they do look like so many Brit gents in their morning coats.
LooHoo @ 1 – what masochist wouldn’t want to marry his dominatrix ?!?!
Oh what fun. Ellie! WHAT have you done to the toobz today. I’d rather strip and wax floors than watch all that stuff! Yikes!
HEY! REAL NEWS!!! We had a (endangered and fading) glorious visitor for the whole day yesterday. A Golden-winged Warbler! Singing and munching on our birch tree catkins and just hangin’ out in our yard.
Gorgeous birdie! Even the local parks ranger dashed over to see it and call it in. Whoot! Our house isn’t even on the market yet, and already we’re hosting royalty! *g*
Luckily, the kindly ranger kept his word and “preserved our privacy”. I was afraid we’d awake today to a hundred chattering birdwatchers in the yard. I’ve heard of that happening to others.
Good for you..what fun. OT: I am not feeling well today. Of course then I get nervous about the crazy flu news. I think I will call my Gov Perry if I get sick. See what he may suggest….I can’t really say why I think that is so funny ;) Cheers, kids. (Of course I do not like his ideas about anything; doubt I would like his bedside manner either)
Sorry to hear you’re under the weather. Suggest NOT calling GovGoodHair. I wouldn’t trust his bedside manner either. Molly told us ’bout those slick travelling salesman fellas.
Be well. That’s an order. Oh, and thanks for sending the birdie. ;->
Mornin’ Rev,
there is another bug making it’s rounds hereabout – lasts about 36 hours. hope you feel better soon
Geez, RevBev, I hope it’s not the flu. Any cases in your area?
This afternoon’s Book Salon features Michael Signer and his book, Demagogue: The Fight to Save Democracy from Its Worst Enemies.
He’s running for Lt. Gov of Virginia
A thought for the future, if it’s not common practice in your neighborhood yet:
Our favorite grocery store now routinely keeps a fresh dispenser of moistened handi-wipes right next to the grocery cart storage, so you can just yank up one of the clean disposable towelets and give the cart a good swiping before grabbing the handle. I’d swear we have stayed healthier and more free from pesky little, and big, nastybugs ever since ours started doing that.
I’d urge you to ask your stores to do the same. If you shy away from being so bold, just conjure up a mental image of the darling little toddler just recently occupying same said space, nose goopy, possibly diaper likewise. Children are sweet cherubs. Nevertheless, Eeeewwww!
Thanks…I don’t think so. Alot of talk & warnings, I think
Got it!!
Ahmadinejad has a lot in common with Bush. His stupidity and stubborness hurt his country and the world every day.
Good morning everyone.
I just finished watching,Fienstein,Liberman and Graham being “grilled” by Anderson Cooper, and hasked about, stopping an attack in california being stopped, using these”enhanced” methods and she really didn’t answer the question.During the week it was shown that the dates don’t match the declaration being made.
Would some one wiser than me tell me what I am missing here?
Nevertheless. Please pull rank today, stay quiet and veg a bit. You’re a treasure. Makes us cranky when you don’t feel well. Don’t make Momma Adie come down there. Think Nurse Ratchet. Heh.
Hey! Top of the mornin’ to ya. Are you getting sun today? Go sit in the sun a spell. You’ve earned it, if i ‘member correctly. sigh. I hope you have a trouble-free day. Go hide if necessary, heh.
Lie-berman concern trolling for his BFFs in the former BushCo era on CNN’s John King’s show. Feinstein and Lindsay Graham also on. Playing McCain concern trolling now.
I’ve noticed King’s lead segment gets replayed in the noon eastern hour.
What’s fascinating, and King isn’t the first to do this, is how he raises questions while absolutely ignoring what’s out there in the public. i.e. the timeline that did not correlate with the alleged attack prevented in California because Bush-Cheney-Bybee-Yoo torture tactics were used.
Lie-berman = lenslouse extraordinaire
Sorry you don’t feel well, RevBev — hope it passes on by quickly.
Are you sure it isn’t from listening to Kit Bond justify the use of torture?
morning MM, and the other later risers
btw Adie, that Golden-winged Warbler’s gorgeous!
Thanks Adie, it’s very sunny and too warm too quick here. We’re in the 80’s all weekend. Perhaps I will I need to do something.
sounds pretty socialist to me.
for those interested
Did OLC Memos Prevent CIA Field from Objecting to Torture?
LHP’s upstairs
the world keeps producing a steady supply of such critters, unfortunately.
Would that WE in the USA could tread wisely in the future. Our near past may serve as a lesson in how NOT to…..
How can institutional memory be so short?!
I guess Firepups et al. will just have to stand guard into the future. I take heart from Obama and crew, warts and all. A distinct improvement.
Now, if deadeye dick & related chaff would please just go away, dragging along some of the unseemly baggage they seems so inclined to forget rather more easily than the rest of us….
If there was a plot there would have been people perpetrating the plot.
Where are they?
Face shows promise this morning, foothillsmike @ 6
and Marion @ 7, I just love your synopses in the morning.
…and *gack* as usual these days, I’m White Rabbit late and epu-ed.
This is war. Pour a tall cool one as the heat builds later in the day. Unfold the summer lounge chair. Grab a trashy novel, or poetry, or just a tape of soothing music, or foot-stompin’ yeehaw. Lie flat-out in the cool shady grass and close your eyes.
As you say, gotta do somethin’. Stubborn survival is a good thing.
peace, my friend…
oh the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands between Kristol and Hume…
It’ll be an inquisition, all that damage to national security, and even *god forbid* trashing the Bush Administration!
But “Bring it on!” since the door’s been opened now sez kristol
The bank is the manager for an ESOP, which is a retirement plan like a 401(k). It has a duty to act in the interest of the beneficiaries, and that means dumping the stock if it has no future. As it happens, GM got a going-concern letter from its auditors, so the Bank has little choice but to sell. The assets remaining, which are cash and cash equivalents, are there for the beneficiaries of the plan, and will be paid out under the terms of the plan.
At any table in any beanery in America on any given day you could find a better discussion of current events than today’s panel on This Week.
What is wrong with these villagers?
I was somewhat pleased with Brazille and Freeland on the subject of torture. Much better than Friday night’s Ifil/Washington Week (everything was the fault of “leftists” on WW). Will and Matt Dowd were apologists, but Freeland really surprised…
Yes, but there wasn’t any discussion. It was individuals reading talking points [literally by Will] and utterly failing to engage one another in the consideration of what is going on. As such, it was a dreary waste of time.
Quite late…Can someone send a notice to withdraw all invitations for Peggy Noonan. Her voice, filled with the whine and the vapors, needs to be just turned off. Over & out, please.
An even later thot, in part positive. Whining by one used to being catered to and automatically empowered often signals peevish frustration and stress. Wouldn’t you say?
Now, don’t you feel better? Sometimes I just love watching that whine meter kick in, heh.
My, are you hinting at a bit of rage? Maybe that’s what’s behind the grating slow, low pitch….trying to remain so j’ne c’est quoi when wanting to throw a fit. I do believe you’re on to something.
Not only that,I’m quite sure it would have been all over the news at the time.I guess I must have been sleeping that whole day.
Hinting at rage? I’m not sure I feel confident enuf to call it that. But just the pent-up frustration/whine one hears when the uber-arrogant, would-be world-opining leadership classes find themselves trapped by the awful truth they have foisted upon the rest of the world in general.
Dubya whined like an overheated sump pump. Brooks went way beyond common decency and deliberately tried to develop whining into an art form, sigh. But it’s most revealing when it’s shown in a genuine form by the unwary. Yes. Rummy was a victim of hisownself on this point. And PattyBuchcanan is hopelessly trapped in that never-never-land between true peeve and faux poobah. I don’t think he’s quite all there anymore. how sad. sniffle.
The pugs are purt nigh devoid of any masters of the art and left to the clumsy devices of inept pretenders to the throne. Hence part of their dilemma. Examples: Do Boingner, McCain or McConnell bring you to tears with their ooopso, aye-yie, flip-dee-dupes routines in defense of their total stagnation and full-bore attack on anything even remotely resembling progress to help the people of this nation and the world?
Would that those folks would even see the tunnel, much less the light, and work for the greater good. But do they even have any comprehension of what that idea means?!
I think I remember someone trying to teach that to us in kindergarten.
Mebbe those guys were too busy stealing cookies to listen.
