Cinderella kept me sane as a kid. (I felt like her with all of my chores!!)
hi suzanne, how’s it going? i’ve had a break from news and the toobz all day. was getting the house and yard ready for guests tonight. it was one friend’s birthday and another is moving next week-end. combination party. two singers, a drummer and a harmonium player. the cake i bought sucked. the company and the music was magical.
hey loohoo
hey gw
how’s everyone doing tonight?
Hi Suz!
loohoo – i felt the same way. still do, as a matter of fact (laughing)
gw – i was away from the tubes all day today. not sure if i wanna catch up with what i missed or not – sometimes ignorance is bliss
hey newton – how’s the bay area tonight?
Hey everybody.
Draggin’. Midnight oil here, have to go to bed…
Just had to stop bye and say g’nite to all the LLN accomplices..
”night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
hey rond – and g’nite
60, clear. I feel bad for our resident Ohio’ns…
Up there?
well, i is catching up. swine flu, krugman in the times, pakistani army finally doing something about the taliban in the northwest provinces.
what happened in ohio newton? tis a nice 47 outside with overcast skies. had intermittent sprinkles today and the skies didn’t clear. spent the afternoon at busted’s gabbing and eating some great chinese food.
Nite RonD
Hi Suz, LooHoo, GW, newton and everyone
sounds like a lovely party gw – and sucks about the bad cake. hard to fork up a cake unless the bakery just didn’t care, in which case i would dayam sure never use them again.
Dear Suz,
Please tell me what the heck is going on…
hey margot – what happened in ohio today?
hey christine e – i don’t know what is going on – was offline all day today.
Oh it was 86 here today, or so I heard.
spring has arrived in ohio – not quite arrived here. was dressed in layers (and fleece) today and was comfy. guess it was in the high 50’s.
My bad, Chris. I assumed you guys were still freezing your keesters off.
Mr.CE and I finished the end of a major conference today. Cleveland sponsored the annual meeting of the American Association of the History of Medicine.
HOLY SHIT – kent state again. dayam (story was just on the news) sounds like the police made it a whole lot worse with their presence. judas forking priest (shaking head)
deja vu all over again – forking rubber bullets even. dayam.
OK, snark/alternative response coming: Nothing that moving to California wouldn’t fix.
you must be exhausted christine e. and proud :)
exhaling – i was thinking you were talking about tornadoes – the weather segment had some footage of the storm in kansas.
Thanks love, you are a jewel Suzanne. Yes, we are ready for sleep!
loohoo – how was socal today? ya’ll still dealing with that heat wave?
betcha feel like ya could sleep for a week. whenever i attended conferences i would come home full of ideas and devoid of energy.
Night, RonD. Best tomorrow to you too.
Chinese food can be eaten without re heating.
News to me.
Smooches. Thud.
You two are having a good time. Good for you!
i heated mine (it nuked real good)
g’thud busted
Margot!!!
This is a repeat of a comment I left at one of Leen’s diaries.
I’m getting more and more angry about the recent abuse of the term “good faith.” People Obama and his friends are not using the term in good faith. How can they say with a straight face that “Just following orders” is an adequate defense for Americans because of some cockamaimie secret legal opinions that they wouldn’t show anyone. The laws that the Germans and Japanese were hanged for hadn’t even been written yet. How could that have been fair, but the “good faith” of America’s war ciminals somehow puts them above the law. What meaningless, hypocritical hogwash! “It wouldn’t be fair, they had ‘opinion of counsel’ that what they were doing was perfectly legal, six times a day for a month.”
i will not use them again. i was going to bake one and a friend who actually knows how to bake cakes even offered to help, but i thought i’d make it easy on everyone and buy one.
next time i bake. my friend was talking about something that came out like tres leches cake, but in chocolate with caramel. it sounded too divine. my mistake.
all the desserts that people brought sucked. so the cake didn’t stand out.
but the music was so amazing – it went right to the soul.
It’s cooled down again. Warm enough for my new garden to be sprouting all kinds of goodies, though.
i had a great time. we didn’t get a dang thang done organizing that we had said was gonna get done. met several of his neighbors and got to see his garden (veggies). was a great day of doing nothing.
as always, the local news made it sound like no big deal…just youthful high spirits, you know.
But this link is pretty detailed.
Night, busted.
Evening suz, pups.
We’re going to be in the ’80s for the next few days. Who canceled spring this year?
yes!!!!
hey wigwam – yup, texas tough – hopefully it lands their asses in jail where they learn the real meaning of tough.
Hi Loo Hoo!
hey sunny
ohmystars – chocolate tres leches sounds yummy!
Sounds like fun, anyway. I’ve never found a store-bought dessert worth a damn. Expensive bakery, yes, but hard to justify the expense.
wow, thanks margot
I’ll have to give it up here too. Nighters.
Hi All,
Sorry for the driveby. Just wanted to let you know that Part Two of my series on torture from the detainees perspective, excerpts of their descriptions of what they’ve been through, is now up at Oxdown. The series will, from tonight be daily.
Hugs,
For Dan,
Heather
hi margot. dayam. i almost got run over reading about the 1970 horror at kent state. i was living in italy at the time and hadn’t seen a newspaper in months. i bought something in english and glanced at the headlines as i was crossing the street. it was something about spiro agnew calling college students bums. and the police violence. i got so outraged and engrossed i forgot i was in the middle of the street.
I don’t think I’ve ever had the a/c on in April before.
my stepdad is a vienna, austria trained baker – his stuff is always yummy. before he retired, the girls and i would do an annual cookie run to their main bakery (usually just before christmas). best dayam bakery goods i’ve ever had.
if i ever plan on making it, i’ll invite you over.
hey heather – here’s the link to your diary – dayam, gave me chills reading it. recommended.
g’nite loohoo
love to you chacounnne. i’m sure it stirs up a lot for you to write these. it’s so very appreciated. i’ll let you know on oxdown too when i get over there.
sounds like it may just be worth the drive :)
Yeah. Just paid a dogawful bill for heat.
i can only recommend texas between october and april. remind me in october and we’ll see what we can do. if i know you’re coming, i’ll definitely give it a shot!
on edit: just realized that’s sort of “if i knew you were coming i’d have baked a cake”
(((((((((((((((((((((((((Suzanne)))))))))))))))))))))))
Thanks very much, Suzanne. I appreciate the link very much.
I almost forgot to tell you. I’ll be speaking at a gathering of Veterans for Peace in Portland, Oregon not Maine, soon. The date hasn’t been finalized yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as it is. Hopefully, you can make your way up the coast so we can meet up :) You’d be very welcome at the gathering :)
Hugs,
Heather
doubt i would make it this year gw. been in texas in the summertime and it was horrid. muggy and hot and the towels felt wet within a few minutes of being taken outta the dryer.
please let me know when you get the date. i’m about a 2 hour drive from portland and would love to meet you.
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((greenwarrior))))))))))))))))
Thank you very much. Love to you too.
It does take a lot out of me, but it is worth it all, because I’m trying to help people who have no voice. I couldn’t help Dan when he was in captivity (I was a child) but I can try to help those in captivity now.
Hugs,
Heather
I sure will :) I was hoping you might be close enough :)
Hugs,
Heather
electricity is included in my rent and i had an email waiting from my landlord when i got home. it was addressed to my downstairs neighbor and i and said that the march bill was the largest they have ever had in 23 years of owning this place. yikes! i promised to be more vigilant about making sure stuff is turned off. she acknowledged that it had been cold but still…
looking forward to it heather
You’re a good woman doing important work. Thank you.
All one needs to know:
Bybee’s friends said he never sought the job at the Office of Legal Counsel. The reason he went back to Washington, Guynn said, was to interview with then-White House counsel Alberto R. Gonzales for a slot that would be opening on the 9th Circuit when a judge retired. The opening was not yet there, however, so Gonzales asked, “Would you be willing to take a position at the OLC first?” Guynn said.
i hope the forker is impeached and disbarred. he could have turned it down. he could have written legal opinion that stated what the law is instead of twisting it into what was wanted. he dishonored his profession and destroyed his reputation because he could not – would not – do what was required of him in the position of OLC.
he sure as hell has now put every opinion and verdict he has rendered as a judge into quesion.
has anyone heard from nahant – has he gotten ‘the call’?
Hi Pups better late than never!! And Heather please keep up the yeoman’s work on Torture. We can ill afford to let those who partook in these atrocities go unpunished lest some future Administration thinks it also can use such methods with impunity!! We Are better than that!! Just ask George Washington who refused to torture the British soldiers even though the British tortured our people!
hey nahant, was just asking about you dood.
Tell Token to turn off the electric blanket and the coffeemaker when he’s done with them!
Jerry Brown’s car was apparently a victim of crime, per the local news teaser.
Hi Suz No call YET!! I had read what you had said to Chacounne and I had to go read it!!!
ha – he is always looking for body heat yanno. i’ve caught him snuggled up to bailey when they don’t think i’m looking
gave me chills and made me nauseous – all at the same time.
and dood, i’ve got my fingers and toes cross ya get the call soon.
Two tires and wheels stolen from his Toyota Camry while it sat in front of his house in Oakland as he attended the California Democratic convention this weekend.
By the way, dday’s resolution calling for Jay Bybee’s impeachment passed the convention floor today, as expected.
i’m still catching up – now reading fdl from the rest of today. got two to do’s for the list tomorrow – call my congress critter and ask where he stands on elizabeth warren. and call the house judiciary committee members and encourage them to open an impeachment inquiry on bye bye bybee.
woohoo – glad to hear it passed teddy
Try-outs for judicial appointments. Lovely.
sounds like we got similar lists gw – i’ve been reading today’s posts trying to catchup myself. that jeff kaye post – wow.
Chacounne is doing great work as many progressives are in demanding justice!
This waiting is the pits, the youngest is Graduating from Chapman Dodge College Film School down in Orange the end of May and I need to be making a decision whether to go or not… Same with two wedding back east end of August…. sure is keeping me from making any firm plans about just about anything involving getting out of town.
appointment for a position that was not even open yet. they wanted him because they knew they would get what they wanted from him.
reminds me of when the cottage by the creek was for sale. could not plan a forking thang. i had to tell my agent that the place would not be available for showing when i held the fdl meetups and would have lots of self doubt that i was making a mistake by doing that. the always having to be ready and not being able to plan sure becomes a heavy burden. i don’t know how you do it nahant.
Judge: It’s ‘high time’ to legalize pot
This in Uber Conservative Orange County can you f..kin beleive it???
Practice!! But what choice do I or did you have??
even tho it’s frustrating, in a way it’s a good problem to have. that is, that you’re well enough to be able to go and that you’re next on the list. natch, i’m hoping they call you asap.
can you get plane tix on southwest airlines? there are no fees or penalties for cancelling flights. they just hold the money you paid. then when you want to schedule another flight, you can pay with that credit. it might be that you need to use it within a year, but i’m not really remembering if they even have that restriction.
on edit: i’ve done that with them a number of times.
holy mackeral nahant – bet the banana republicans go after that judge.
and yeah, what other choice is there? don’t make the waiting any easier tho.
Might be worth the looking into although if I go means two tickets and another room, if I don’t Julie will ride down with her parents and stay in their room. And if need be grab a flight back if I get called. I told her she must stay for the graduation and then come home, middle son will b here to take me to Stanford and stay with me. Decisions decisions decisions decisions .
i think hotels only need a day or two notice of cancellation for you to be off the hook for the tab. and i can see that the logistics of planning for the various options could be seriously complicated.
tell em you are #1 on the transplant list and make sure they do not have a penalty for cancellation (or will waive it due to the circumstances). if they refuse, then find one who will be flexible. given the current economic situation, hotels are hard hit and should be willing to work with ya.
Thats the issue, well it is also the money and that is the rub. Oh and I can only be two hours away from here…. Not sure if I get the call I could get to the airport, get a flight and then make it to the hospital in time.
shit – that 2 hour limit is one ya cannot get around.
time for me to head to bed. g’nite pups and thanks for hanging out with me tonight.
That is the crux of the problem… I was hoping I to have already had it done and then I think I could go… Now it is getting too close to graduation to try and plan as if I get it done in the next week or so they will not allow me to go as I need to be going to the hospital four times a week for at least a month… Nite Suz give Token a biscuit from Tucker.
dayam – token gives tucker a woof of thanks
*poof*
two hour limit – that makes sense. it just doesn’t make it easy.
i’m still catching up on glenn smith and lakoff’s torture posts from this morning.
Exactly! “Here’s a job for you to do EXACTLY as we say, while we wait for a judgeship in your home town. You wouldn’t want to PISS off the boss while you’re waiting, would you?”
Good night everyone, and thanks for all your kind comments on my earlier post.
Hope to see you all when I return on the 17th rested and with snark!
Glenn wrote a good piece today.
Vacation Teddy??? Hope you have a great time and get well rested… on the other hand go have a ball and don’t waist any time for resting. You can always get some rest but having fun that is a whole nother thing..
going over to take a look. thanks for the tip.
on edit: well, i thought i would, but i can haz to go to sleep. eyelids can not haz stay up.
Time for me to hit the hay…. Nite Pups (:>))
Kinda jumps off the page..
nite nahant.
