Whenever there is a comical right-wing point to be made, MSNBC doesn’t have a galaxy of wanks like FoxNews. No, they’ve got Scarborough and his besweatered co-dependent and they’ve got Pat Buchanan. Pat lives somewhere at the studio, in a previously used glass-booth.
Yesterday, the oft-published Hitler apologist expressed outrage that Barack Obama shook the hand of Hugo Chavez.
Buchanan: Barack Obama allowed himself to be disrespected. Now if that’s the way he wants to do it personally, that’s personal. But he’s the President of the United States, and his country was savaged and smeared down there, and he grinned all the way through it.
Which is interesting when noting that Pat’s original boss smiled and shook hands with the likes of Chairman Mao and Leonid Brezhnev while the latter had thousands of nuclear warheads focused on the United States. And further, as Lawrence O’Donnell noted:
Nixon remembers giving a Lincoln Continental to Brezhnev at Camp David. Brezhnev’s eyes shone when he saw the car. Without warning, he waved Nixon into the front seat, took the wheel and roared off as Secret Service men looked on aghast.
And they went to the drive-in together and Brezhnev did the hole in the box of popcorn trick. But OMG, Obama shook a guy’s hand!

Uh, hey wig. You ok?
And they are cranking it up big time right now!
See, sometimes it’s nice to be a nobody. I smiled at several people yesterday, and didn’t get in trouble at all.
Pat Buchannan misses the smell of sulphur.

Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Herbert this morning. Bobo, in “Big Spending Conservative,” says President Obama is arguing for his activist agenda as a defense of middle-class morality and is positioning Democrats as the party of order and small-town values. This should make Republicans nervous. How do you know this is full of bull pucky? He called Obama’s agenda activist. Mr. Herbert, in “Children in Peril,” says in a toxic mix for children, poverty and family homelessness are rising, the quality of public education is deteriorating and legions of people are losing access to health care.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and cream cheese this morning. I’ve had more restful nights than I had last night — being the filling in a 2-cat sandwich when each of them REALLY wanted lots of attention doesn’t make for uninterrupted sleep! Have a great day.
Buchanan EMITS the smell of sulfur. One of the shows he was on yesterday (maybe Schuster?)…..and there apparently *wasn’t* one on which he didn’t appear……..I thought he was gonna pop a blood vessel. As Martha sez, “That would be a good thing”.
And another thing that got on my very last nerve: scar has three whole hours to spew his nastiness. What did msnbc do at 9:00 a.m.? Puts his miserable ass back on again to spew some more.
Geeeeezzzzz! I need to go back to bed.
Thus endeth the rant.
And they went to the drive-in together and Brezhnev did the hole in the box of popcorn trick.
Tricky Dick got dick-tricked?
Rust proofing? LOL. Did Nixon try to sell Brezhnev an extended warranty?
I saw this last night. You know what? i really think that in the last couple of years on msnbc, Buchanan has been pretty tame compared with years ago. But last night he was back in form. I love what you hear the FOX guests say all the time. “By shaking hands with Chavez, Obama essentialy…..” “By saying America is arrogant, Obama for all intents and purposes…” “It seems that Obama….” “It appears that Obama. .. …..”
I just bought a bagel (onion) w/ cream cheese not five minutes ago.
Wow, Good Morning, I can’t quite tell what hours that Marion and Demi appear. Yes, it is all a big emergency that our President first did not wear a tie to the Easter egg hunt, per Laura, and now a handshake. Tut, tut…so glad to know what is truly important. And a complaint that our new President is doing everything to embarrass the previous Pres. W….how nuts. They fail to see that W did it all to himself and, therefore, to us. Guesss I should go back to bed….Cheers.
The wingnuts are more OT: eye for an eye, and all that.
Pat Buchanan wears a suit and tie, so therefore, his words have truth behind them. *rolling eyes*
Let’s not forget…
Ronald Reagan met with the Taliban in the White House (Ronnie called them ‘freedom fighters no different than America’s Founding Fathers’)….

Newt Gingrich smiled & laughed with the former Prime Minister of Russia…

And George Bush shook hands and smiled with Islam Karimov the leader of Uzbekistan who likes to boil people alive for shits and giggles…

Morbidly obese sack o’shit
And George Bush shook hands and smiled with………….
Dumb as dogshit imbecile.
*eyes rolling right to the back of my head*
And George Bush shook hands and smiled with Islam Karimov the leader of Uzbekistan who likes to boil people alive for shits and giggles…
They say that everyone needs a hobby, but that’s a bit off-putting.
Although possibly not to georgie. I never did buy into his “presidentin’ is hard work” schtick….
P.S. linkie busted under that one
sack o’shit
Is that an Irish name?
I heard obama explaining his positions last nite, he sounded completely lost, as if reading without believing
today I saw in raw story cia members comming forward telling him he has to prosecute
obama has list his path, gonna be hard to claim the high ground even if he reclaims the path
long, one term presidency is what I see so far
Re: one term or two. Depends on who runs against him, and right now it looks pretty slim pickings.
via twitter:
LOL!
(it’s either laugh or cry, and i’m a sucker for gallows humor.)
And W can see one’s very soul….that is what a few drinks will do for ya’
Morning. Did you notice, though, that when Obama was asked about the handshake he defended himself. I would rather he had taken the offensive and said that he intended to shake those unclenched fists.
Some days it’s better to stay in bed. Greenwald’s reflections make me want to throw up. Really puts torture in perspective.
I think before this is over, this torture thing is going to make “WATERGATE” look like a side show.
I think there are a lot of people right now looking over their shoulders. And by the way kudos for Lawrence O,for continually putting Buchanan in his place.
robert knutter: Confidence Game
my bold.
i’m sorry.
That’s not clear. Too early. What I meant was that instead of saying it wasn’t that big of a mistake, I’d rather Obama said it was the right thing to do. I think most Americans would agree with that.
And, fwiw, as bad as Pat B. is, I’ll take him over Tucker Carlson any day. Seems Tucker has been frozen out.
Morning all
Sometimes I get the feeling that it is a good thing that O and Buchanon are in separate studios so that a fist fight doesn’t erupt
Exactly what I expected. And it’s been clear for awhile that the only lesson learned from Enron is how to get the taxpayer to bail you out when your financial shenanigans explode in your face.
And by the way kudos for Lawrence O,for continually putting Buchanan in his place.
now there’s an example of a *constructive* hobbby. (in a destructive sort of way)
I just can’t watch the side-by-side dueling talking heads game any more – I just wait for the highlight reel on C & L. Yesterday I saw a little of one – Amanda Carpenter, apparently newly of The Washington Times, claimed that her earlier words couldn’t be used against her, because that was “before I was a journalist.”
Wingnuts must be incredibly limber – all that twistin’ can’t be easy….
Alberto Gonzalez turns out to be not Freddo, but Michael Corleone.
Who knew?
Alberto Gonzalez turns out to be not Freddo, but Michael Corleone.
Who knew?
Probably not Abu….
Is his tragedy that he was an sociopath or was he genuinely mislead by the playboy W….
i think he sorta did when people asked him what he thought of Chavez’s speech and he said “I thought it was 50 minutes long.” There’s a film up at HuffPo from venezuelan TV where Obama and Chavez meet and have a more extended discussion. Obama does all the talking almost. Some people are spectulating that it was a “tense” encounter. I think it was just serious and Obama certainly wasn’t takibng any shit and semed to be lecturing Chavez a bit. But all you hear about is the handsake and the book.
here’s the link:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..89232.html
I’m thinking that Abu took the ’short-bus’ to Sociopath School…
I guess my disappointment is that no one is saying (to rebut the talking heads) that it was the right thing to do. As a defense we’re saying Nixon etc. did it too. Defense rather than offense.
Why am I having such trouble making my point? More coffee needed.
It’s such a sad reflection on the poor boy made good..I think his background was that he worked very hard. Makes me sort of sick…like more of W’s destruction.
I thought O made his point when he said a handshake is not going to impact the US strategy…at least it puts in perspective how ridiculous. Does anyone really think a handshake is going to change our trajectory? And all the rants have been about the respect/dignity of our country. It is insane tripe.
the progressives aren’t going to put up with much more from this guy ecahn, he’s doing everything bush did and then some, giving banks our money, cutting job creating programs under the guise of “more efficiency”, protecting criminals clearly guilty of war crimes and treason
the list continues but I grow too weary to type them, I am not happy with his priniciples against our law, constitution and integrity and I am going to be campaigning for whatever democrat runs against him on a progressive platform
kucinich one more time or possibly russ I hope
JEC hearing this morning at 9:30am: Too Big to Fail or Too Big to Save? Examining the Systemic Threats of Large Financial Institutions

COP has a hearing at 10am: Congressional Oversight Panel Announces Hearing with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner
since it’s not a congressional committee hearing, and elizabeth warren will be asking quesitons (i assume), it may not suck!
related news: simon johnson has a new blog at the wapo: The Hearing.
I’ll always remember Abu smirking during his questioning at Congress. Smirking as he lied and called The Geneva Conventions ‘quaint’. Smirking because he thought he was un-touchable.
The quote “you can’t give a small man power’ comes to mind.
I happen to believe it revbev, friendship has to start with some gesture, the ONLY way forward diplomatically is with a gesture of just that sort
obama should have went on the attack not on defense, like he did when he first took office, he is now playing d, me no likey
Here’s another pic of Bush shaking hands and smiling with Islam Karimov…
http://bodypolitik.org/wordpre…..imov-5.jpg
obama and the dems have one very important asset that keeps progressives in line: the Rs are scary batshit crazy. that is why it is so important to focus on them (the Rs) and not on what obama is doing (see the clinton years).
selise,
Thanks for your comments and links this AM.
I guess I am talking about degree…a handshake does not equal giving away the store, or the key to nuclear secrets, as the Rs would have us believe. Sean was in orbit at the disgrace to the US; it pleases me to see them painted as so crazy. I thought his handshake remark made that point with ridicule.
the dems are the r’s now ecahn, as I said before, power corrupts, I invented that saying before I was born
kucinich is probably strong enough to go after obama, I expect him to beging the challenge soon enough unless obama finds a progressive agenda
otherwise we are lost, no differance between the d and r as of late
I agree with you there rev but obama needed to really smack them down with ridicule rather then defend his handshake
ps, I saw I think in think progress an actual debate between clinton and bush is being prepared
can you say love fest?
here ya go
my bet?
bush’s dad asked billy boy for a favor to try getting bush junior some love
that’s my bet and I am laying odds
klynn – you are most welcome
perris – our political leaders do NOT define us. we are not lost so long as we try to be honest, fair and have compassion on those in need. (((perris)))
[moderator to clinton]
what do you think of bush’s reaction to 9/11?
[dog] “I would have done it differantly, we have differant styles but the way bush pulled the country together and took a strong position was very impressive”
[moderator] What do you think of the clinton years?
[boyking] The economy was magnificent and Clinton put through some important changes that strengthened our economy, things like deregulating the bank and allowing us to make our labor more competitive by allowing companies to compete with slave labor abroad”
I can go on but that would be a diary then
no. i got that. you made your point. i was adding to it, not disagreeing. don’t know that i added anything off value, but.,…… but i’ll never discourage anyone from coffee. enjoy.
It’s interesting how much modern Republicans cater to their base, even after the primaries are over. You won’t catch Obama doing any of that. After the primaries were over he took a sharp right turn and silently declared all previous promises no loger operative.
p.s. i’d like to see bush and clinton on trial at the hague. let them have some nice chats there.
off for coffee, might be back for the hearings.
we don’t make any demands, so why should the Ds cater to us?
they don’t define you and me selise but check this out;
I was at the park playing tennis when some “progressives” who I told obama would win the election (even though we are a racist country and inspite of the alleged close polling)
he was actually enamered with the wonderful job obama is doing, I was dumbfounded, tryed to get out of him exactly what he thought was so wonderful
on his behalf he did site foreign relations to which I had to agree but he refused to look further then the good work from his canidate
I had to point out, I am not going to sit and watch, no matter the good I will fight against the bad
he didn’t agree
team politics, me do not like
Pat is right. Venezuela has not even been secretly carpet bombed by B-52s. Where do they get off being so uppity?
whitehouse gives me a source of hope;
this is interesting, from raw story
there are two differant cia’s
one set is a group of professionals, trained and understanding what works and does not work
the other was recruited largely by cheney, a “team b” that actually exists created by cheney to lie us into international unrest
I am certain there are those in between but I really want to purge the cia of those recruited by cheney
He will win a second term in a landslide, as long as he doesn’t get caught doing something unsavory with an intern.
By releasing the memos he has set into motion inevitable investigations, without being put in the politically damaging position of leading the charge.
No, I don’t like his position on FISA, or his appointment of Geithner or Summers, but overall he is doing an excellent job.
Isn’t it refreshing to have a POTUS respected on the world stage again?
And able to speak in complete sentences?
sibel edmonds said something recently on this topic – about how a really good con man is articulate.
so, no, i don’t care so much about the complete sentences. they are nice, but worth nothing unless they make sense, are honest and are backed up by actions.
a competent con job is not something i admire or respect. i care about actions.
we now have evidence that president obama has done far more to rip off the american public, support the use of torture and support spying on americans than president bush did during his first 91 days. that is the opposite of an “excellent job” according to my values and priorities.
“Newt Gingrich smiled & laughed with the former Prime Minister
of Russia”
Maybe we could at some point stop picturing all Russian politicians as monsters?
Which superpower was involved in the deaths of more people in the Third World either directly or through proxies (like the Contras)? It sure as hell wasn’t the Soviet Union.
You missed the point.
Newt Gingrich made the point recently that no republican has ever shook hands and smiled with the Russians, because well, apparently the American republicans are better than that. The picture of Newt with the former Russian Prime Minister is to point out his hypocrisy and the irony of it all.
