Interesting that a rifle like the Romanian WASR-10 can be converted so easily.

I know the AR-15 is not so easily converted (theoretically possible, but for practical purposes, you’re looking at replacing the lower receiver, trigger group, bolt, and bolt carrier - all of which are not legally available in the USA to civilians).

I’ve been to many gun shows in TX and haven’t ever seen anything that would be useable to replace the sear & trigger assembly (the minimum necessary to convert it to select-fire). I suppose one could “convert” it by making it so that the sear simply didn’t/couldn’t engage the hammer, but then it wouldn’t fire in semi-auto mode. Did I miss something?

Also, FWIW, it would be an illegal modification unless it was licensed by the BATFE (which won’t happen, since it’s also illegal under the 1968 Gun Control Act) and the tax stamp was paid, and a local law enforcement official of appropriate stature (usually the sherrif or chief of police) signed off on a statement that you were of good moral character.

Considering how easy it is, I’m surprised more folkls haven’t done it…

What was that line used on the Dixie Chicks? Shut up and sing. I don’t want him to shut up, I want him to talk to the victims of the dead from gun violence. And I want to see it live on tv so the world can see and be disgusted.

Yes Teddy is self-sufficient now that he is wealthy from selling records and giving concerts that people paid for. He never received assistance from other musicians, record producers. recording engineers, roadies, agents, managers, record distributors. music store clerks, ticket sellers. ticket takers, venue security, publicists, ad agency personnel, tour drivers, hotel staff, airline employees, or anyone else. TED DID EVERYTHINGALONE!

They were not doing the 2nd amendment fans any favors when they asked Ted Nuggent to write that article.

This is a much better argument:

“First they came for the second amendment.
But I said nothing because I wasn’t a gun nut.

Then they came for the fourth amendment.
But I didn’t object because I wasn’t a drug dealer.

Then they came for the sixth amendment.
But I kept quiet because I wasn’t guilty.

Then they came for the eighth amendment,
But I was silent because I never thought I’d be sent to jail.

Finally they came for the first amendment.
And by then it was too late to say anything at all.”

A more detailed version with supporting links is over at Kos.
Link:
Bill of No More Rights

The second amendment fans often had no use for the inconvenient parts of the Constitution that give civil right to all people. That does appear to be changing. Look at the article over at the NYT: The Bigots’ Last Hurrah

The more we respect all of the rights in the Constitution the better position we are in to try to convince conservatives to do the same.

The more we cling to this old anti second amendment argument the more hypocritical we sound. This can split our party like no other issue.

Oh, yeah, gun ownership is sacrosanct, of course! It’s constitutional, right. It could never result in any problem if used right; gun owners aren’t irresponsible people, now are they. Here’s an example:

Photo radar operator shot dead on Arizona freeway
Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:04am EDT

PHOENIX (Reuters) - A gunman has shot dead a photo radar operator on a busy freeway near Phoenix, police said on Monday.

Police officers were called to the radar enforcement vehicle after reports of gunfire late on Sunday, and they found the employee shot several times, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

The victim, 51, was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his gunshot wounds, the department said. He worked for RedFlex Traffic Systems Inc., which has a contract with DPS to operate photo radar vehicles on the state’s highways.

Police said they were treating the shooting as a homicide and were searching for a man driving a white Chevrolet Suburban, a popular SUV.

Arizona is the first U.S. state to implement a state-wide photo radar system, though similar programs have been used in other countries.

People who act like you describe need to get their comeuppance, but don’t let them figure out it was you. I say blow the whistle on them regarding the horse. Set up a chain of events where they accidentally reveal this (in a boast)to someone who will then have to report it to the IRS. (For example they are at a party with a friend of a friend who is an IRS agent or who works for that AG dept and is fighting fraud.)

They are so cocky about how they can flout the law, put them in a situation where their bragging gets them in trouble. Use science regarding their wailing dogs. Rent DB meters and recording equipment. But again, figure out a way so that they bust themselves. So for example if they are shooting your pets because of the invisible surveyor’s boundary line, you can talk about other things that cross boundary lines that aren’t legal. Sound. Use what they consider their “rights” against them. Make them follow the letter of the law on their “rights” They started this, play by their rules and make them pay or defy their own rules.

Rewatch the movie “The Sting” or the current shows Burn Notice and Leverage. Get some ideas on how to both fight them and keep suspicion off of you.

You are making the best argument that can be made I suspect. I don’t see it as a major issue. There are probably a small number of people who convert those weapons to full auto mode somehow and sneak out on weekends to shoot up a case of ammo. I haven’t heard of a raft of criminal use of fully automatic weapons- at least not on this side of the border.

True, but it is much easier for someone to legally acquire a semi-auto AK-47 or M-16 and illegally convert it than it is to get an illegal Uzi or Mac 10. I will admit to a certain ambivalence about the assault weapons ban (largely for the reasons you mention), but it does make some sense.
