This just in: US News & World Report is officially giving plumb op-ed assignments to crazy people.
Water, water, everywhere water. Know it, embrace it, manage it, or drown. Same goes for cars, trucks, chainsaws, knives, crowbars, blowtorches, and guns. Based on the inept, clumsy, irresponsible failure of brain-dead, uncoordinated numbnuts, I will not be denied the pragmatic, functional utility of anything.
"Water, water, everywhere water"?
Leaving that aside, I have to say, I’m with Ted on the cars and the blowtorches — the uncoordinated numbnuts are indeed a problem with those. But with guns, I’m far more worried about the coordinated numbnuts. Like, for instance, Harris and Klebold or Charles Whitman.
I need my water, cars, trucks, chainsaws, knives, crowbars, blowtorches, and guns. I have mastered them all; they are all wonderful ingredients for my American Dream of rugged individualism, declared independence, and self-sufficiency. They all serve me well, and I am not giving any of them up. Ever.
The masses must never be controlled for the sake of the lunatic fringe. Remember "Don’t Tread on Me"? Don’t.
Again with the water. How does one "master" it exactly?
Now I’m sure it’s because I’m a weak, half-man sissyboy, but I must confess that my American Dream doesn’t include "chainsaws, knives, crowbars or blowtorches." Sounds more like a Saw movie. But where are you going with all of this, Ted?
Where there are more guns per capita, violent crime goes down, particularly crimes of assault, like rape, burglary, and robbery. This is good.
This is also wrong. Japan has the strictest gun laws among advanced democracies and one of the lowest homicide rates in the world. The United States, in contrast, has way more guns per capita than any other nation and one of the highest homicide rates among advanced democracies.
I guess since Iraq currently leads the world in homicides, all that’s needed there is more guns, right?
Wingnuts, wingnuts, everywhere wingnuts.

Gods! Ted makes me ashamed to have come from Michigan. The really sad thing is there are lots of Michiganders who feel just like that asshat does.
Easy big fella. MI’s a wonderful state. We’ve got an equal number of cranks in OH. AND nice, rather tolerable people both places.
By using the board?
I wonder how brave Ted would be one-on-one without his shooter. Probably not very.
You said it. Sadly, yes.
I know, it is just the view folks get of good ol’ MI from Uncle Ted cheeses me off no end.
I imagine Ted has shot many unarmed creatures. From deer stands, blinds and other ambush sites. Wonder how he’d do, armed of course, with another armed creature.
Attempting to quell violence with guns is like attempting to drown a fire with gasoline. Anyone who carries a gun for protection must also wear a helmet at all times, since falls kill more people than assaults.
Thanks BT.
Ted’s in Texas now, no?
Ze wango, ze psycho!
Two words describe ol’ Ted: “Pompous Ass”
I’m from Oregon originally. Most everyone has a deer/elk rifle, a shotgun, a .22 and a handgun locked away for hunting season. I don’t see any way that they will ever be restricted- although there should be some extreme liability for those who don’t properly secure the things.
The “assault weapons” ban is a piece of silliness- banning a firearm because of it’s appearance. So what’s left? Licensing? That would give cops a good reason for picking up some armed perps without proper paperwork- but is it worth the agony?
I think Ted meant that he has masturbated with all of those things. And now he has also masturbated the press interview (no word on whether he also masturbated the interviewer).
Kinda beyond self-parody at this point, huh Ted?
Ted Nugent is speaking. I must go to my happy place…
I happen to think it’s a bad idea for people to own AK-47s, but that’s just me.
Well fully automatic AK-47s are and always have been illegal. Semi automatic AK-47s are no different than the semi automatic deer rifles in similar calibres are they?
I spent some time in the 20/20 on-line forum after their report, “If I only had a gun.” in which they demonstrate what happens when an armed student in a class room is fired upon. He gets shot, can’t get his gun out in time, he shoots other students or he panics and can’t move. The gun people responded with lots of calls of “LIBERAL BIAS!” and explain why the test was rigged so the participants would fail. They also explained what crack shots THEY were and how they would have nailed the incoming shooter.
I told them that I would support their redoing the scenario in the fashion they liked and that I would insist that they go on the show and show the world how great they are. But if they fail they would have to admit it. I also suggested that all the 2nd Amendment shouters WHO USE ALL CAPS! Should be allowed to go on the show and speak with out editing (so those evil liberals can cut up their speech).
When I made those suggestions they backed down and said “20/20 would never allow that”, but the real reason is that when offered the chance to prove their badassness they would probably shoot someone else. When offered a chance to speak they would embarrass themselves.
And yet somehow, Badass Ted managed to avoid those places where there were guns, guns, guns everywhere… like Viet Nam, Panama, Iraq… he managed to avoid all those armed conflicts, choosing instead to stay where he could safely prey on underage girls without fear of being shot by anyone but an irate father…
Self sufficiency? Sure, as long as somebody is still making and supplying water, cars, trucks, chainsaws, knives, crowbars, blowtorches, and guns, not to mention the myriad other things Ted consumes. Ted wouldn’t last three days if he was truly on his own.
Whenever the gun debate comes up, I think of two things. 1) Woody Allen’s “The Moose” routine. And, 2) how happy I am that we have No Guns in our home, especially when I hear the news covering the increasing stories of domestic violence resulting in deaths by gunshot.
After Battles of Lexington & Concord, the British retreated back into Boston.
The British first order of business in occupied Boston was to control the printing presses and confiscated firearms.
These were the hard lessons of Freedom and not lost on the Founding Fathers.
Thus, the 1st Amendment and 2nd Amendment were adopted as first protections of our Freedoms, Liberties, and Constitution.
What gets to me is when some kid gets ahold of a gun and shoots his five year old buddy.
Are you suggesting that the 2nd amendment means everyone should be able to own any kind of gun that they want?
No kidding. And, they always call it an accident. Right. Who left that gun where I kid can get it. And, why is it loaded?
Well that may or may not have been the reason for the second amendment- but the whole premise is bullshit currently. In order to do war with the government a “gun toter” would have to be armed with something more substantial than a deer rifle. Does the second amendment allow mortars, artillery, drone aircraft, etc? You know- the REAL stuff? If not it’s a waste of time so far as combating the govt.
As wing nuts are fond of saying- the govt. must have a monopoly on violence.
Of Guns and Roses, I prefer roses.
Must run out quickly, so I can be back for “Tortured Law: Chat With ACLU’s Jameel Jaffer on Thursday at 3 pm ET/12 pm PT”.
See you all then and there.
I think it is time for the media to realize that there will be no gun massacre large enough in the US where anything will change regarding guns. Instead of even bothering to touch on the issue of gun control, I think that after each mass death the gun loving people should be on TV explaining to the public, and especially to the families of the dead, why these deaths were necessary. I want to see Ted on tv talking about this with the relatives of the dead. Yes, it would be emotional, but I think it’s time, if these sick people can preach more guns on the anniversary of Columbine then they can preach it in the face of the relatives of the recently dead, when the relatives have the full weight of emotional righteousness. Is that using emotion to politicize the event? Yes. But they are using emotion to politicize the event the other 364 days a year. They constantly use fear. After a shooting they are all over the net saying, “Don’t let the gun control nuts politicize this!” Which is a politicization of the status quo.
Think about the reporter who is forced to stick a mike in the face of a relative and ask, “How do you feel?” They don’t like to do it, but they are told that they need the emotional reaction. What if they got Ted and the relative of the dead in the room and have Ted them them, “Your daughter’s death, although tragic, is just part of the whole and that there are hundreds of thousands of people alive today because of guns. I need my water, cars, trucks, chainsaws, knives, crowbars, blowtorches, and guns. There are thousands of daughters alive today because of guns, millions of dollars of property in the hands of their owners because of guns. Our country has not been taken over by Cubans or Russians because of guns (”Wolverines!”).”
These are the words the families of the dead need to hear. The need to hear that their relative would have been just as dead from a car “More people are killed by cars than guns do you want to outlaw cars?” or a knife “Are you going to outlaw knives?” as from a gun. I want the “guns guns everywhere” people to repeat their bumperstickers and 2nd Amendment comments directly to the faces of the relatives of the dead. I know they can do it. I’ve looked into the eyes of people who told me that lives were saved by guns. I’ve listened to them. I want the relatives of the dead to hear how great guns are and why they should support more guns.
Yes and no. Off the shelf, they are just like any other semi-auto. Unfortunately, they (like the US M-16) are easily converted to full auto by anyone with even basic metalworking skills or who buys the replacement part at a gunshow. FWIW, I grew up in Oklahoma and have known a lot of certifiable gun nuts, including some who made the conversions.
Aw, it ran away. Probably had a date with Ted.
Of course doing such a conversion would be illegal wouldn’t it? So- I mean- there’s ALREADY a law against em in full automatic mode.
I live in the country…the culture wars are here.
My neighbors use holidays and Sundays for incessant target practice and posturing with guns on tripods with scopes;
shoot our pets should they cross that invisible surveyor’s boundary line;
call the Sheriff if our dogs bark but can’t hear their own hunting dogs wailing in their 10 foot pen; and, we have to look like them, covered in clothing of neon orange to be safe on our own land.
They think their values are more important then ours because we don’t have guns to protect ourselves (from them) and let the deer roam. But they get the tax break because they have a horse…agriculture write-off, you know!
True, but it is much easier for someone to legally acquire a semi-auto AK-47 or M-16 and illegally convert it than it is to get an illegal Uzi or Mac 10. I will admit to a certain ambivalence about the assault weapons ban (largely for the reasons you mention), but it does make some sense.
You are making the best argument that can be made I suspect. I don’t see it as a major issue. There are probably a small number of people who convert those weapons to full auto mode somehow and sneak out on weekends to shoot up a case of ammo. I haven’t heard of a raft of criminal use of fully automatic weapons- at least not on this side of the border.
People who act like you describe need to get their comeuppance, but don’t let them figure out it was you. I say blow the whistle on them regarding the horse. Set up a chain of events where they accidentally reveal this (in a boast)to someone who will then have to report it to the IRS. (For example they are at a party with a friend of a friend who is an IRS agent or who works for that AG dept and is fighting fraud.)
They are so cocky about how they can flout the law, put them in a situation where their bragging gets them in trouble. Use science regarding their wailing dogs. Rent DB meters and recording equipment. But again, figure out a way so that they bust themselves. So for example if they are shooting your pets because of the invisible surveyor’s boundary line, you can talk about other things that cross boundary lines that aren’t legal. Sound. Use what they consider their “rights” against them. Make them follow the letter of the law on their “rights” They started this, play by their rules and make them pay or defy their own rules.
Rewatch the movie “The Sting” or the current shows Burn Notice and Leverage. Get some ideas on how to both fight them and keep suspicion off of you.
Oh, yeah, gun ownership is sacrosanct, of course! It’s constitutional, right. It could never result in any problem if used right; gun owners aren’t irresponsible people, now are they. Here’s an example:
They were not doing the 2nd amendment fans any favors when they asked Ted Nuggent to write that article.
This is a much better argument:
“First they came for the second amendment.
But I said nothing because I wasn’t a gun nut.
Then they came for the fourth amendment.
But I didn’t object because I wasn’t a drug dealer.
Then they came for the sixth amendment.
But I kept quiet because I wasn’t guilty.
Then they came for the eighth amendment,
But I was silent because I never thought I’d be sent to jail.
Finally they came for the first amendment.
And by then it was too late to say anything at all.”

Bill of No More Rights
The second amendment fans often had no use for the inconvenient parts of the Constitution that give civil right to all people. That does appear to be changing. Look at the article over at the NYT: The Bigots’ Last Hurrah
The more we respect all of the rights in the Constitution the better position we are in to try to convince conservatives to do the same.
The more we cling to this old anti second amendment argument the more hypocritical we sound. This can split our party like no other issue.
Yes Teddy is self-sufficient now that he is wealthy from selling records and giving concerts that people paid for. He never received assistance from other musicians, record producers. recording engineers, roadies, agents, managers, record distributors. music store clerks, ticket sellers. ticket takers, venue security, publicists, ad agency personnel, tour drivers, hotel staff, airline employees, or anyone else. TED DID EVERYTHINGALONE!
What was that line used on the Dixie Chicks? Shut up and sing. I don’t want him to shut up, I want him to talk to the victims of the dead from gun violence. And I want to see it live on tv so the world can see and be disgusted.
Yes indeed! Ted Nugent is the master of his domain.
Interesting that a rifle like the Romanian WASR-10 can be converted so easily.
I know the AR-15 is not so easily converted (theoretically possible, but for practical purposes, you’re looking at replacing the lower receiver, trigger group, bolt, and bolt carrier – all of which are not legally available in the USA to civilians).
I’ve been to many gun shows in TX and haven’t ever seen anything that would be useable to replace the sear & trigger assembly (the minimum necessary to convert it to select-fire). I suppose one could “convert” it by making it so that the sear simply didn’t/couldn’t engage the hammer, but then it wouldn’t fire in semi-auto mode. Did I miss something?
Also, FWIW, it would be an illegal modification unless it was licensed by the BATFE (which won’t happen, since it’s also illegal under the 1968 Gun Control Act) and the tax stamp was paid, and a local law enforcement official of appropriate stature (usually the sherrif or chief of police) signed off on a statement that you were of good moral character.
Considering how easy it is, I’m surprised more folkls haven’t done it…
Blue Texan, thanks for the good laugh!!
