On NBC’s "Today" show, Gingich warned, "Everywhere in Latin America, enemies of America are going to use the picture of Chavez smiling and being with the president as proof that Chavez is now legitimate that he is acceptable."
McPalin (and Hillary, for that matter) loudly and repeatedly criticized Obama for saying he’d meet with Hitler Ahmadinejad and Castro during the campaign. The country yawned, then enthusiastically installed Obama in the White House. So why Gingrich & Co. think this is a politically useful line of attack — after it’s failed twice — is anyone’s guess.
Also, since "smiling and being with" adversarial world leaders is now the new benchmark for unacceptable, I expect Gingrich & Co. to issue stern retroactive denunciations of the following.

Hey BT, the GOP like to torture everything including logic.

It’s a miracle our republic survived such outrageous photos! I say ban all photography now!
[Great work, BT!]
Everyone knows libruls r gud wit photoshop

Ah, memory lane. Republics looking through eye windows to the soul. Those were the good old days, eh?

Ya gotta love breshnev with the mink and cigarette. fierce!
don’t forget this guy !
Junior with the ultimate dictator. Photo begs for a caption.
The Bush/Putin one is, I think, particularly funny, since Gingrich declared Russia’s invasion of Georgia the start of WWIII or something.

Obama’s lament?
anklebiters – exactly right. We need to get to a place where we can ignore these idiots, because that’s what they are, and concentrate on the future.
Pictures are worth 1000 words. Thanks. Reminds me of Jon Stewart’s occasional montage of photos. Very powerful.
Thank you for contributing this; I saw the Today interview. Why do these people keep appearing? How long has it been since anyone much cared what this lying, narcissist thinks? The photos are great. Gee, we really should get the vapors b/c an Obama handshake. GIVE me a break.
Makes we really glad we do not often now see many pics of the TX Village Idiot. Not a lot to be grateful for, but really nice!!
Last I looked, Chavez was elected in a fair election, i.e., not a dictator. Of course, the U.S. is pissed because he undid the U.S. coup to overthrow him, and NO ONE can get away with thwarting a U.S. overthrow of a duly elected government.
someone’s gonna feel left out !
Wow, that is a good one. Though Noriega at the time was a CIA stooge.
It is great having someone currently working as an agent for a foreign government tell Armerkuns about how treason ain’t cool for anyone but the gop. Don’t you get it? We’un’s ain’t sposed to ask dem kwestuns.
When he comes up for air, shake a pair of handcuffs at him. Just tell him you are from one of the countries that still wants to prosecute him. He will wet himself for the camera. Hell, he will wet himself for almost anything if it means a few bucks. When will he emulate Bob Barr? Do you think Bruno has him in the new film?
press conference right now on torture
hot and heavy
why is that tired, no new ideas, blimp on my tv?
Noot’s entire career has been based on his ability to be a rhetorical bomb thrower. The note-takers that now work in the MSM just report on what Noot says without any challenges, thus granting him total credibility always. The note-takers will, however, challenge any and all who might dispute Noot. When this one fades, Noot will be back with bigger and better bombs.
c-span, msnbc broke away
This is such a great response to the repub story-line! Kudos!
maybe this is why…
It’s that “we’re looking for someone who will say…” puppetry that so endears me to these puppets. /s
But hey, Fox News is entitled to the same “free speech” rights as any American! /s
I’ve got Pete Williams on my tee vee splitting hairs on the number of times the US tortured someone in their custody.
As if that mattered.
Regarding Newt, well… let’s not.
I suppose its a good thing Obama didn’t bow to him while shaking his hand. Newt’s head would have ’sploded all over Faux (again).
Say what you will, history’s judges: Brezhnev was a fuckin’ badass gangster. What a getup!
I was wondering when some idiot was going to show up saying “183 times is the prescribed number…you’ll notice that no one waterboarded anyone 184 times…”
head/desk.
fierce, baby! Fierce!
Wow, thanks I needed that. Nothing like thoughtful integrity. Im sure if that guy is not available, they can get the cynical, bully-sounding, sarcastic Laura Ingraham. I wonder how much of these traits in in-born?
He looks like any college undergrad at a football game in the 1920s. All he needs is a pennant.
That caught my eye too,
Were they all drunk?
Cooties!
My friend Cocktailhag adds the only appropriate hat to that outfit.
“Try one of these Jamaican cigars, ambassador, they’re pretty good.”
Actually it was Micheal Smerconish ratting out the process. His emailed reply was in toto “thanks for the clarity. I’m not your man.” He also indicated that other shows are prone to this booking technique as well. His main beef is that producers are setting up mindless antagonistic “debates”
(gee, o’donnell v buchanan come to mind again). we all know tucker is willing to say anything for a few bucks.
I’m sure producers all know the most compliant “guests” and they keep rotating the same puppets.
EPU’D from downstairs … Nadler to press Holder on Tuesday for a Special Prosecutor – from HuffPo
Let’s call Nadler’s Office and offer our support !
Nice…a glimpse of hope in this unrelenting mess.
Jumping on the bandwagon late here but it would be nice if we could rid people of the fallacy of Hugo Chavez being a dictator. He is not and was elected and re-elected democratically two or three or four times. A friend of mine thought Hugo was a dictator. I replied, uh no, he is not, he has been elected over and over again. Oh, she said, why did I think he was a dictator? I said, because you watch fox news.
Nixon not only shook hands with Brezhnev, but when Brezhnev came here for a summit he stayed at the White House and at Nixon’s San Clemente house, and when Nixon went over there he visited Brezhnev’s house in the Crimea and stayed in the Kremlin. There are pictures of the two of them being as chummy as you can imagine. I can’t believe Gingrich said something that can be so easily shown as utter bullshit.
And then there’s .

Darn! Apparently my second linky is blocked. Boohoo!
Clark Kent and Lex Luther
Most of what Gingrich says is utter bullshit. This just happens to be one of his more egregious moments.

Go BT! Whoot!
I keep having visions: hoards of puzzled & consternated little secret listeners, ears and eyes glued to the sudden spate of frenzied googling of “handshake” and all those elderly &/or olde timey dictatorial badguys’ names.
Gentlemen, start your engines. And fer hvn’s sake, thimk before rushing out into the midday sun with your specious charges. Oy!
Thanks for the laugh, ginger-itch!
Please don’t omit Rummmy and the big S!
Omit?
The only vaguely dictator-ish things Chavez has done that I know of are nationalizing some oil and other companies, and changing the Constitution to remove term limits. Either I’m not up to speed on him, or they just don’t make dictators like they used to.
The kindness to Chavez has sent Hannity around the bend (not very hard, I guess) with a rant again about how OB doesn’t like America, blah blah blah another excuse to talk about Rev Wright along with a rant about being in favor of torture b/c it is so effective and bragging that Cheney is going to be on his program…..then I changed the dial.
.
Actually, I thought shaking hands with Chavez legitimized Obama.
Maybe Hugo will have some tips on how to deal with entrenched corporate interests and the radical right wing.
Maybe, nationalizing the seven, er, five, er, three sisters, before they corporatize us? We’re one of the few countries in the world that hasn’t done so. Imagine if we controlled our own energy? Think of all the kewl stuff we could do with the profits.
No wonder the Nazi’s don’t like Obama shaking Chavez’s hand! He broke their rice bowl in Venezuela. And it can happen here.
.
Meerkats, yes!
North Murkans, not so much.
And more people are reading Eduardo Galeano today.
