Nothing pleases me more than to see two of the most powerful Republicans in the country’s second largest state having a debate about the legality of treason.
Cornyn, the state’s former attorney general and a past member of the Texas Supreme Court, said in response to a question during a stop at the Texas Capitol that secession isn’t legally possible. “I understand the sort of frustration people feel about what’s happening in Washington. I share that frustration,” the second-term senator said. But as to secession being legally possible, he said, “the answer is no. Texas cannot, as a constitutional law matter, secede."
Chances are, Boxturtle saw the new Rasmussen poll, which showed that "only" 18% of Texans are traitors to the flag. Pandering to your nutty base is one thing. Pandering to the nutty fringe of your nutty base is just mighty powerful stupid.
I called Kay Bailey Hutchison’s office this morning to see if she had any comment on Gov. Jeff Davis Perry’s remarks, but didn’t get a response. Now that Boxturtle’s come out squarely against treason, look for KBH to issue a statement soon.
Will update when she does.

is “idjit” like “eejit” ?
Sr. Cornyn o Sr. Perry, quien es mas
machopendejo?‘Eejit’ is good. Maybe should’ve used that one.
So all the Republican Party has left is…secession?
The party of Teddy Roosevelt and the party of Eisenhower, reduced to debating secession.
Heh.
Does Bush have land in Paraguay?
18 percent. Of Texans. Want to leave. The United States.
Roll that around in your brain for a moment.
Actually, in a way it’s a good thing – we couldn’t just say “Go the fuck ahead and secede,” because there are so many loyal Americans in Texas. 18 percent? Roll in some trucks and tell ‘em to hop in.
well, i dunno. i guess idjit is texan, no? I’ve heard eejit from the Irish in NJ.
Prairie had a hilarious diary on this topic.
or ayjit, any way ya slice it, Cornyn called it? really?
sorta like perfect symmetry in livid color heh.
alot of people are saying just that. you make a good point. and why is this nitwit kissing the collective ass of that 18% rump (so to spek) group of loons?
Yeah. Whatever happened to expansionism, manifest destiny, and empire? Man those were the days.
Now it’s all about how fast can we shrink.
somebody in tejas needs a nap.
These are the same percentage of assholes that demand we occuppy Iraq forever.
Iraq demands seccession!

they’ve been replaced by “American Exceptionalism.” i think. I really have no idea what the hell that means.
DEVOLUTION OF THE SPECIES
Today’s GOP is a genetically and or psychologically deviant mélange of morally and ethically defective mutants, miscreants and kamikaze loyalists who are crashing and burning all things Republican. They are the figurative buzzards and hyenas fighting over the last scraps of a carcass riddled with maggots and festering clumps of putrefied viscera. They are the opportunistic parasites whose very existence is and always has been dependent on sucking blood from the engorged bellies of alpha predators. The prevalence of fear, paranoia and irrational hatred in today’s GOP represents the antemortem gasps of a doomed species struggling to survive in evaporating pools of their own toxic waste as they mercilessly slice and dice one another in futile attempts to become the biggest fish in an increasingly smaller and smaller pond.
couldn’t you work with that a little more and cram more metaphors into the soup? I’m sure some are hanging around the edges getting jealous of the fortunate few.
Reminds me of some of the blessings in the movement that old white men no longer have exclusive leadership in our hurting world. My, I hope that doesn’t sound sexist. These 2 men are idiots, however you spell it.
Both, as I recall were against health care for children. One can’t get any dumber when thinking aoubt the outlook & welfare of the future. O, I know Health care is a Right and It’s all their parents’ fault. Sounds absolutely archaic, doesn’t it? Don’t want that health care money to go to a bunch of kids; save it all til they’re hungry and in prison. Spend it on private prisons and the failing criminal justice system. Forget children’s health.
Now as I turn life a page
To the land of the great Osage……………
Properly, it’s idjit, pronounced as close to one syllable as possible. And yes, after 3 years in Texas, I do still use “y’all”.
While I’m happy that only 18% of Texans do want to secede (I lived there and I thought that number would be much higher), it’s a little weird that about 30% think that secession would be perfectly legal. In fact, some people think any state in the union has the right to secede at will. And Lincoln was a traitor to the Constitution.
Um, yeah.
Because they all vote in the Republican primary and Gov. Blow Dry (although after seeing Blagovich’s hair, Perry’s seems kinda lame, we need a new nickname) will be facing a stiff challenge from Kay Baily Hutchison next year.
Our poor guv got pwned by Cornyn. How sad is that?
“SECEDE!” bumperstickers were quite popular down here in the late 70s/early 80s, but hadn’t seen any in a while. Kinda sorta retro Goodhair, along with your…um…hair.
Es un question muy dificil. Ambos son pendejos.
Y tambien, hablando en esa lengua es un de los problemos de los idiotas. Los morenos! Eeeekkk!
Though Molly called him Mr. Good hair, and no one would ever say that about Blago…thanks for the comparison.
Kay Bailey’s gonna kick Goodhair’s ass in the next election. Oh, and Kinky is running again, this time as a Democrat.
Kinky against Kay would be something to watch.
I will do everything I can as a Democrat not to have Kinky as the nominee. He’s an unserious assclown.
Yea but think of how much fun the rest us would have. *G*
Ol’ Ben Lucas had a lot of mucus. Comin’ right out of his nose…
Unserious, you say!?
;)
Caught tom delay with Chris Matthews yesterday, these people are really scarey, delay denied that perry said it,even as Matthews played the clip for him.Unreal.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Actually, laughin’ at the whole idea of “sucession” is good for the soul until we start thinkin’ about it and puttin’ it in context. The last time the oligarchy staged a depression they intended to use it to replace the elected government with a coup…this time they intended to take down the elected government with a “popular uprising” and real threats of secession from places like Alaska, South Carolina and Texas. There have been corporately sponsored “independence” parties from Alaska to Minnesota and, of course the entire Dixiecrat Republican Party has been controlled by batshit crazy crypto-Nazi thugs for 30 years. The only thing that has forstalled this astroturfed movement is the popularity of Obama AND his policies and the fortunate stooging of the CIA by the Bush administration.
After thinkin’ about it, I am NOT laughin’ at the pathetic creatures who hang teabags from their ears and run thru our parks screamin’ about socialist fascists, jest as I have never laughed at the “conservative movement” or it’s reserve army of militias and the Aryan Nation. Right now, the only thing keepin’ us from a right-wing take-over attempt is the loyalty of the CIA and the active duty military…Bush and Cheney were so inept that they alienated the very forces that 30 years ago would have brought them back to power.
So let’s not get all slobberin’ intoxicated with the apparent collapse of fascism …they still have all our money!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE BASTARDS AREN’T DEAD YET!!
Pendejos, chingaderos…both apply.
I had put this up earlier, this is a great read. From Vanity Fair:
What’s Wrong with Washington?
Washington has always been out of sync with the rest of America, but since Obama’s election, Beltway pundits seem more stubbornly and stupendously irrelevant than ever. Have three decades of being wired for Republican power blown their jittery, Twittering minds?
by James Wolcott May 2009
Really. Loser for a long, long time. he shows up on FOX sometimes.
Out of context!!! Out of context!!!!
Norske, as always, you nail it precisely.

Ummm… Texas is the third largest state in the country.
Actually, Tom DeLay (why do they still interview him?) on Hardball explained it a little “better”. When Texas was annexed, the obtained a provision that allows the state to break up into five seperate states. According to DeLay, the way it would work is that Texas would split up, and rather than have 10 “Texas” senators instead of just two, the US would kick the five new states out of the union.
Chris Matthews called it “nut talk”.
oops, my bad. I keep thinking California is bigger.
Good for Chris….was there an answer why he is still being interviewed? Go figure.
Jane is upstairs!
Ed Liddy Keeps AIG Profits High by Denying Medical Claims for Iraq, Afghanistan Injuries
You asked a very important question: Why DO they continue to interview Tom DeLay? He, Cornyn, and Perry are all idjuts!
Zzzzzt! Incorrect.
Isn’t there one Democrat in Texas that can take advantage of this? Who is running on our side?
difficult comment to read while eating lunch.
And does not have democratic values.
Well, Houston mayor Bill White is taking advantage of what will be an open seat in the Senate to run for that. A Dem winning a Senate seat in Texas is a long shot, but a lot better than running against an incumbent. I don’t really care much who is governor because in Texas the governorship is very weak (remnants of Reconstruction).
I don’t know…..18 percent are Cheney numbers. I really doubt that the number would significantly increase or decrease depending on the state. Just under 20 percent seems to be the hard bottom of the wingnuttiest of the wingnutty.
technically, succession is possible
if we can amend the constitution to add a State to the Union, we certainly have the ability to amend the constitution to kick a state out of the Union
I’m surprised nobody has ever seen this possibility in the Amendment clause before
jes sayi, is all …
not bigger
jes BETTER
but that ain’t sayin much, Arkansas and Oklahoma can both say the same …
Let’s just do a “swap” and admit DC as a state: with two senators & ? rep(s). That ought to turn Box Turtle’s hair even “whiter.”
we could always divide Alaska, an make you the third largest state
so don’t go gittin too big for yer britches down there
cuz we’ll turn this country right back around an go home …
(wink)
why would we swap texas for DC ???
we already GOT DC
let’s swap texas for Baja California, straight up
I’m thinkin we can dupe Mexico in a land swap one more time (It’s been a while since we tried that trick, maybe they forgot …)
an maybe we could throw in DC too, as a sweetener
just a thought
Somebody better tell Tom DeLay!
The Treaty of Admission for Texas allowed them to APPLY to ENTER the United States as ONE or FIVE States. That would have then have been voted on by the Congress. It does not allow Texas to SUBSEQUENTLY and unilaterally split into five states.
Even the original treaty required Congressional concurrence. Texas could certainly, as could any other State, vote to split up (e.g. West Virginia from Virginia; Tennessee and Kentucky; the Carolinas). But each sub-unit would have to be accepted by Congress as a State. It leaves open the possibility that one might be accepted and the others allowed to become independent, become territories, or left in limbo. But whatever decision would have to be in concurrence with Congress.
No other state would have elected Cornyn, so this dufus is just worried about his job. Texas wouldn’t have United States Senators if it suceeded and Kay would be free to run for gov. These people priased Perry in the past because he was one of them, but see how they change if a person says something they don’t want to be assciated with. I still say give Texas back to Mexico.
Crazy is as crazy sez eh?
Wow. I don’t see why anyone would argue that they don’t have the right to secede. It seems like the very definition of a win-win situation. They want to leave. God Bless them.
I think this is why notexas.com is offering both sides of the issue their support.
