Memo to wingnuts: if you don’t want to look like a bunch of crazy right-wing extremists, it’s probably best not to criticize the federal government for keeping an eye on crazy right-wing extremists.
The Department of Homeland Security has…created a secret report that wasn’t supposed to be made public but has leaked out nonetheless. In it we see the same outrageous conclusions that “right-wing terrorists” are a danger in this country.
Outrageous! Where would they get that idea that terrorism is dangerous?
And notice the language here. "Secret report." "Leaked out." The Anchor Baby sees a dark conspiracy at work.
In Obama land, there are no coincidences. It is no coincidence that this report echoes Tea Party-bashing left-wing blogs (check this one out comparing the Tea Party movement to the Weather Underground!) and demonizes the very Americans who will be protesting in the thousands on Wednesday for the nationwide Tax Day Tea Party.
See? It’s all a devious Janet Napolitano ploy, masterminded by David Axelrod, to make Teabaggers look bad. Makes perfect sense if you also believe Obama is a Manchurian Muslim who isn’t a US citizen and is going to send your kids to socialist re-education camps after taking away your guns, like the shooter in Pittsburgh did.
One final word from RedState.
We should all remember that in the 90s, while bin Laden and his al Qaeda network was growing strong, Bill Clinton’s intelligence services were running around the country all worried over the “militia” movement and proclaiming how much of a threat it was to the nation. It turned out, of course, that this fear was largely fictitious.
"Largely fictitious" because to these wackjobs, Tim McVeigh was an agent of Saddam and Eric Rudolph was a secular progressive trying to discredit the pro-life movement.
Weigel has more.

Legitimate fear is experienced exclusively by stupid people?
Who knew?
Only brown people are scary.
In that redsate link, How are the freedoms and liberties, that Washington and Adams fought for, in anyway related to these delusional and self destructive idealologies of the extreme right. Adams defended the british troops in the boston massacre cause he believed in fair trials, these guys on today’s extreme right dont even know what a fair trial is!
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
The last battles of our 149 year old Civil War are bein’ mobilized…the ideology of the slaveocracy, the Firebreathers of the 1850’s and the States Rights “conservatives” from Ronald Reagan to Sarah Palin is now isolated in the rump Republican Party with it’s reserve army of militias and the Aryan Nation. Make no mistake, many if not MOST of those who appear at the pathetic “tea parties” tomorrow would welcome a right-wing, violent overthrow of our existing government. We are gunna see increased isolated violence and provocation demonstrations like the Tea Parties attempting to draw counter protests into the street for violent citizen to citizen conflict. This will create a local law enforcement crisis that will require federal intervention and support. This is the strategy of the fascists as they take to the streets tomorrow and don’t be gulled by pathetically small turn-outs or bloodless demonstrations. The massive over coverage by the corporate media will serve to perpertuate this thing into hysterical headlines for future “lone nut” shootings and assasination attempts.
The end of this entire corrupt mess can be visualized but it won’t be without cost and dirtying of hands with these bastards.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, FASCISTS ARE NOT HEALTHY FOR CHILDREN AND OTHER LIVING THINGS!!!
Nice to see that the FBI and other federal resources are now being devoted to what has been for more than 30 years the greatest terrorist threat to the US instead of chasing around after lame ass “Islamic” terrorist wannabes with no operational plan, no logistical network, and no munitions. The rightwing extremists on the other hand have all three and a proven record of violent attacks on Americans.
Freedom Fighters
They want to fight freedom?
OT: i am pissed. for the first time ever a political campaign lawn sign of mine has been stolen. the pretty much non-environmental often pro-business not people candidate is whose sign i was sporting. (running against him is the very pro-business not people candidate. ) damn. i called the campaign and asked them how many of the other guy’s signs they recommended i steal. they laughed, but i’m not so sure i won’t. the little people inside me are duking it out right now.
For every rightwing militia group under surveillance for domestic terrorism there are, no doubt, ten or so groups of dangerously radical vegan pacifists waiting to destroy our way of life. I wonder which type of group gets more agents and resources devoted to stopping it?
malkin has linked thne report. she sez:
The “report” (PDF file here) was one of the most embarrassingly shoddy pieces of propaganda I’d ever read out of DHS. I couldn’t believe it was real.
Her headline (in red (!!!!! must be important. verrrry important!!!!!!) sez:
Confirmed: The Obama DHS hit job on conservatives is real
Malkin calls militia groups “conservatives.” Too good.
Shorter wingnut-o-sphere: B-but – but we’re white!
this just supports my thesis that conservatives are short-sighted and just fundamentally stupid.
when Bushco created an entire new federal bureacracy dedicated in part to weeding out terrorists via watch lists anda terorrist screening center, the wingers probably never entertained the idea that they could be added to the list too.
and why not, the wingnuts also didn’t anticipate that iraq would be messy, that they might lose an election, and that the incoming president might actually choose to maintain the powers they obviously thought were for Bush and Bush alone.
wait until one of the wingers ends up getting tortured or held without due process. oh man, then the tears REALLY start.

DOH!
Malkin quotes the report as saying that:
Well, gee. Maybe the 29 percenters shouldn’t have run the country into the ground and gotten stomped in the last election.
You just don’t understand; Shooting up an abortion clinic is free speech. /s
interestingly, the rethug definition of terr’ist seems to be rather mutable into the enemy-of-the-week – Fox’s O’Really last night: “Piracy is an extension of terrorism. Somalia is a terrorist state run by killers. But again, the world simply will not unite against the terror threat, leaving much of the heavy lifting to the USA. And within America, there are those who will not support tough action against terrorists. Today those people are quiet, but tomorrow they’ll be howling again. Let’s hope the Obama administration has the courage not to listen.”
Um. So Captain Hook was a terr’ist now? And they do realize that there are at least a half dozen navies, beyond our own, patrolling in that general area? And these other countries are not there ’cause they’re buying into the War on Terra eithdf. If pirates are somehow terr’ists, then there shouldn’t be any question that really terr’istic rightwing militia types clearly deserve the label as well.
Just wait until they get infiltrated by undercover FBIs with shoes, plans for the Sears Tower, and ideas for blowing up the Brooklyn Bridge.
Anyway, I thought the holdover Bush USAttorneys were all about letting domestic terrorist meth-heads with anti-Obama inclinations free unless they had an “operational plan” that went beyond knowing schedules, stocking up on guns and ammo, and recruiting sharpshooters?
Uhm, yeeeah.
Where was the outrage over gov’t infiltration of vegetarian and peacenik groups over the last few years? And how many vegetarians and peaceniks have gone on shooting rampages?
Yeah, boo forkin’ hoo. “why is everybody always pickin’ on us?”
Feh.
FunnyDiva
how much ya wanna make a million dollar bet that Bachman is screeching about this on FOX today or tomorrow? (wonder how come she doesn’t go on MSNBC any more).
Those nuns and quakers really need close monitoring too. Heck they might even do a terrorist fist bump.
exactly. those anti-death penalty, anti-war religous nuts are a danger to society!
FunnyD
is that lady still on FOX?
is that lady still on FOX? the terrorist fist bump lady? ED Hill I think it is.
I’ve got Faux blocked on my TV.
I am curious how these rethugs differentiate between pro-rethug terr’ists and, say, eco-terr’ists? Are they saying that eco-terr’ists are terr’ists while gun-toting tea-bagin’ militia types aren’t? Should one’s opinions as to why a particular building should be burned down or blown up or broken into be taken into account when deciding whether those plotting to commit the crime are in fact terr’ists as opposed to patriots?
Former Beauty Pageant Winner, Barbara West is still on local Orlando News. She should have been fired for espousing hard-right sentiments in the Biden interview. She was deeply concerned that Obama is a Marxist.
Yet there she remains for all Central Florida to behold, eh?
Don’t know about ED Hill. I don’t watch FOX except for some clips on the net.
I suspect the Holder DOJ looks at those folks a bit different.
I know Ee De Hill is a good looking blonde in the model of Faux News right wing beauties. The fist bump thing I did see. If they had any principles they’d be embarrassed. So it’s not a problem.
I hope that Michelle Bachman has made the list. Maybe they could put her on a no fly list.
Considering how the wingnuts explode at the slightest provocation, we should be thankful that Osama bin Laden is a Bush family crony, not a Clinton crony.
If we start looking at common sense terrorists the conservatives would be dessimated.
I don’t watch the local knuckleheads and had never heard of Barbara West until she did that inteview with Joe (”Is That A Real Question?”) Biden. West was scheduled to interview Jill Biden the next week or so but was told to piss off. Nasty weather here today.
Yup. basic FOX variety dopey blonde. Sit-on-a-couch-wear-a-short-dress-and cross-the-legs-newschick. They suspended her or something. I used to watch FOX and Friends for a laugh in the morning. That shit got stale. But she’s got, like, 11 kids or something so I’ll admit she looks pretty good.
Let’s not forget about James Cummings – the nutcase who was killed by his wife in Maine a short while back who was BUILDING A DIRTY BOMB…
Having looked at the report (PDF), it seems benign. It is secret, flagged “unclassified//for official use only”, but I honestly can’t see why–there’s nothing in it that’s news to well-informed people.
If it is marked “Unclassified/For Official Use Only” then it is NOT Secret. Secret is an official classification. “Unclassified/For Official Use Only” is exactly that. The information can be used by anyone as part of day-to-day operations but should be careful with the info for whatever reasons.
In other words, you won’t go to jail for disclosing the information.
Now they worry about civil rights? They should ask Justice Thomas how he feels about that….sigh
First try. Hope that the link posted correctly.
Norske got it right. The Media controls the messaging. The anmount of free publicity generated in favor of the Tea Parties is not commensurate with the size and scope of the tea party event(s).
Compared to the Tea Party, Anti-War demonstrations were given very little publicity. Heavily Downplayed in the media.
The Tea Party people are likely unaware about the trillions of dollars that Bushco back-channeled to the Banksters over the past year or so. The media has not informed the public about it. Matt Taibbi told of it in his Rolling Stone article last month.
There is no outrage there because it never happened as far as the tea partiers know. They are the uninformed who think they are informed. The most dangerous type of ignorant citizenry.

which I believe makes him a more serious threat than Jose Padilla, who only said that he wanted to make such a weapon. And Padilla had to endure half a decade of incommunicado charge-free detention at the hands of shrub’s torturers.
dakine01, the fine print says:
So it is secret in the common sense of the word, though not classified. As I said, I have no idea why they put that in the document–I don’t think anything in it is news. I also think that a policy of tagging documents secret but not classified creates a security risk.
Most all documents, within the US Government, are marked as “Unclassified/For Official Use Only” if they are not classified as Confidential/Secret/Top Secret.
As your extract says, all that means is the information contained is not subject to be released under an Freedom Of Information Act request.
Not exactly meaningless, but nothing should be read into it as being out of the ordinary or something being hidden
As my Ole Beloved Southern Daddy once said to me, “Son, when you throw a rock at a pack of dogs, it’s always the hit dog that hollers.”
How about armed robbery of National Guard armories? They did a lot of that in the late 70s and 80s. Made off with a shitload of military ordinance as well. Never heard of any of it being recovered.
my usual response to this kind of thing is, “if someone hollers out ‘hey, asshole,’ do you say, ‘what?’”
the hardly-ever-right is even more shallow and bereft in their thought processes than i imagined.
The way she’s flyin’ you can’t prevent. Wooowiiieeee.
