Remember Jake DeSantis, the sniveling WATB AIGFP executive vice-president who resigned is such spectacular fashion in the New York Times op-ed section that the more cynical amongst us suspected a public relations carpet-bombing? Pshaw, how can anyone forget the overly self-righteous (and overpaid) Mr. DeSantis?
That is why I have decided to donate 100 percent of the effective after-tax proceeds of my retention payment directly to organizations that are helping people who are suffering from the global downturn. This is not a tax-deduction gimmick; I simply believe that I at least deserve to dictate how my earnings are spent, and do not want to see them disappear back into the obscurity of A.I.G.’s or the federal government’s budget. Our earnings have caused such a distraction for so many from the more pressing issues our country faces, and I would like to see my share of it benefit those truly in need.
On March 16 I received a payment from A.I.G. amounting to $742,006.40, after taxes. In light of the uncertainty over the ultimate taxation and legal status of this payment, the actual amount I donate may be less — in fact, it may end up being far less if the recent House bill raising the tax on the retention payments to 90 percent stands. Once all the money is donated, you will immediately receive a list of all recipients.
Oh, Mr. DeSantis, as the Good Book says: The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away.
Except for one thing–it seems that Mr. DeSantis can’t quite tear himself away from his lucrative AIG paycheck, not yet anyway. I guess that mortgage on Mark Twain’s "historic register" home in that exclusive Connecticut enclave wasn’t quite paid off yet, and his wife had already made plans to celebrate her birthday at the swanky country club they undoubtedly belong to. From today’s Wall Street Journal:
Overall, Mr. Pasciucco said, about a third of the resignations were from the financial-products office in London. He said that Jake DeSantis, an executive who announced his resignation in a New York Times op-ed piece amid the controversy, is still on the job short term as the commodity business he works on is resolved. AIG didn’t make him available for comment.
Oh, Jake, Jake, Jake. You can try to talk the talk, but you are far too soulless, amoral, and completely wrapped up in your identity as a big-time commodities trader to actually walk out the door. What a douche. I’m wondering whether Mr. Liddy did indeed receive that list. . . .
Also a douche is Mr. DeSantis’ new boss, Gerry Pasciucco, who tries to guilt-trip all those American taxpayers who showed the slightest hint of moral indignation at the exorbitant bonuses these scumbags were pulling down:
Mr. Pasciucco said that as a result of the bonus controversy, some employees’ children were harassed, and some had clubs ask them to resign.
"It doesn’t surprise me that some senior people said, ‘You know what, I’ve had enough,’ " he said.
Oh my god, the HORROR! I can’t even imagine what it must be like to get kicked out of my restricted country club because of a gross over-generalization! Why, I’d have to play golf at a. . . *GASP*. . . public course!
Yeah, it’s an outrage, all right. I’ll be over in the corner, laughing into my gruel and weak tea.

I think we should let them all eat a nice fat shit sandwich and say, “Thank you, may I have another?”
watertiger! Here, I’ll share some of my purple berries.
Seriously, though, their sense of entitlement is thicker than an elephant’s hide.
This weak-ass shit is starting to wear thin. Santelli is, regretably, not the worst of’em.
Hey WT!
Dugg right here!
Douchebaggery & teabaggery.
Time to bring back confiscatory tax rates. I am thinking 50% on income over $250K and 90% over $500K.
Is there anything these clownholes do that isn’t phony?
-G
Yup
No.
This has been another edition of …
Steal
Did you see that Rachel wondered why the teabaggers didn’t look up the term in the urban dictionary? Too funny!
Nah. We need to discuss incomes in the millions before we get to those rates. All income, not just “earned”.
Nope. $250K puts you in the top 1-2% of the income distribution, which is where you start confiscatory rates. Do agree that all income, including capital gains and inheritances, should be taxed the same.
Yeah, imagine the Duggars – $250,000 is below the poverty line for that bunch.
We would still allow the standard deductions. I personally favor abolishing most other deductions except for medical, unreimbursed work expenses, and charitable donations.
No one’s children should be harassed — although these incredibly privileged children might need to learn about the world outside their own bubble.
But complaining about having to resign one’s clubs? That’s atrocious.
Agree about the kids. They are not responsible for the fact that their parents are amoral scumbags. Would do them good to spend a bit of time down among the commoners, however.
As long as they have a roof over their heads, something to eat, and aren’t rotting away in a prison cell, these shitbags should be grateful.
Having to resign from the clubs is very serious. It shows that the person who resigned was living above their station in life. Oh, to banished back with the riff-raff, such a fall from grace.
Sadly, they will never witness exactly how grateful they should be.
The industrial mid-west might be a nice place for them to relocate to.
Speaking for the riff-raff, we don’t want them either.
I hear Gary, IN, is nice this time of year. 8-)
So are you talking about 50% over the $250,000? I can go with that.
OT, but one of my Ph.D. students just won one of these (top one on the list). I am, needless to say, rather chuffed about it. Just heard about it on my way out of the office this afternoon.
Yes. We could keep the current rates up to $250K and then tax income over that at 50% and over $500K at 90%.
One thing we can all agree on, they are liars and con artists of the first degree. Does it surprise anyone with a brain that they have continued on that course? I mentioned to someone that I would bet my house that they would never return their bonus money. If anything, the extra time employed by AIG will just give them more opportunities for more and better shyster schemes. The best thing that could happen to these scum suckers is public shunning and approbation. I want orange jumpsuits for the lot of them.
Digital tip jar is filling fast.

OT- Dana Perino joins freaking Mark Penn.
Excuse me while I puke.
DrDick,
When MrCE got his Fulbright, there were few congrats…
We have long known that we would need to do some serious house cleaning come the revolution. Just one more to add to the list. Also further confirmation of my opinion that Clinton was largely just GOP Lite.
They deserve each other
‘Cause every filthy, blood-soaked PR firm needs their very own lying sack-a-cute.
She will be right at home.
Sorry to hear that. The Fulbright is a really serious honor and should be recognized by your colleagues. Had a friend in graduate school that got one. Timing was a bit flakey (went to Poland right after Jaruzelski took power), but she really enjoyed it anyway.
1978 was a really terrible time here in America. No one had jobs, serious graduate students wondered what the heck their lives would hold. Lucky for us, we went to Paris!
Geez. These idiots can’t even get it right when all they’re doing is a simple resignation. It’s little wonder they fucked the whole economy up.
i’ll second that emotion.
I’m shocked by this. Dana freaking Perino??? I must have missed anything worthwhile that she contributed.
IMO, the failure to ‘free-up’ the bad guys lies elsewhere.
Time for me to head out. Take care all.
i’m joining you.
nite doctor
gnite dr. d
You take care, too, DD. Night.
I was a member of a local back then, but I recall my friends opting for the army.
Good evening everyone….. tomorrow at 7am I am going into surgery for a laser bronchoscopy which will clear the tumors from my airway. This should be a day surgery but could be be a 24 hour observation stay. This procedure uses a scope to look down my lungs and zap any tumors that are obstructing my airway. The surgeon plans to insert stints to keep my airway open.
Evenin’ all !
