I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but let me get this straight.

The Republicans are holding up confirmation of Johnsen and Koh, not because of who they are, whether they’re qualified, but because shining light on the policies of the previous administration is unacceptable? Those memoranda must be truly toxic.

How do the Republicans know they are so toxic? Have they seen them already?

I think it’s time to let the Republicans go nuclear.

The real America haters aka FOX are never going to stop lying, misrepresenting, censoring the truth, etc. about anyone, or anything. Why that is true is explained at toma’s diary…”The Curs of Fox: blah blah..” I think that the majority of you don’t know about this ruling as I have never seen it mentioned at FDL. It explains why FOX does what it does. Of course, they aren’t the only MSM that practice the production of less than true ‘news’ broadcasts but all of them are protected by this ruling.

Being a part of the Wall Street Party they’re not going to upset the other part of the Party. Those who don’t owe their seats to Wall Street don’t have the cojones. With Ted Kennedy probably terminally ill and rarely in the Senate we’re down 2 who would stand up. Bernie Sanders can’t do it solo and his ideas are an anathema to most of the rest of the Dems.

The US Senate = a big sack of worthless elites.

Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Because this sounds like adding and abetting war crimes I think anyone we have on tape saying this should be arrested then we can get Obama’s people confirmed.

“Senate Republicans are now privately threatening to derail the confirmation of key Obama administration nominees for top legal positions by linking the votes to suppressing critical torture memos from the Bush era. A reliable Justice Department source advises me that Senate Republicans are planning to “go nuclear” over the nominations of Dawn Johnsen as chief of the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) in the Department of Justice and Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh as State Department legal counsel if the torture documents are made public. The source says these threats are the principal reason for the Obama administration’s abrupt pull back last week from a commitment to release some of the documents. A Republican Senate source confirms the strategy. The GOP has said this on Camera? Because this sounds like adding and abetting war crimes I think anyone we have on tape saying this should be arrested then we can get Obama’s people confirmed.
Or we could ignore the Senate, Spain wants to Prosecute some of these guys Obama could just turn them over to Spain or the Hague and release the memos for the world to see.
If a war crimes trial is held in American the GOP could try to argue to keep evidence secret in exchange for their cooperation with Obama. Or Obama could threaten the turn the people and the memos to Spain.
Third Option one or more of the Bush war criminals will be detained in an other country for war crimes.
Then Obama faces pressure to cooperate and has to explain why he did not prosecute these guys on war crimes.
The GOP Senate after a conviction is gotten now has to worry about being arrested in other countries for trying to cover up the crime.
Still I bet that the Main Stream Media will never point this out even though Greta, Nancy Grace etc are all lawyers and if someone was covering a missing White Woman after the fact I’m sure they would know the penalties for that crime.
But when a GOPer does it the Media goes silent.

I hope there is huge disclosure and censure for the folks who want to continue the coverup of the criminals who have brought such shame and tragedy to our country. Let them fight the choices; I suspect our President can fight back. Let the truth out.

Besides the ugliness of the attacks, what the Republicans are doing is really unprecedented. First, the President has traditionally been given deference in the choice of his advisors. If some President wants to have someone in his cabinet, the presumption is that he ought to be able to do so, absent illegality or some sort of manifest incompetence. For the Republican Senators to hold these appointees up not for those reasons, but because they disagree with their policies, is just wrong; if this happened every time a new administration came into office, the opposition party would filibuster half the nominations and no one would never govern at all.
