About Firedoglake
Morning Elliott thank you for this post.
Where is everyone this AM.
Second day in a row I woke up to fresh snow. Not the twelve + inches that had been predicted though.
Morning. David Frum was on Bill Maher’s show Friday night. He started off by saying that Obama was rebuffed in Europe last week. He repeated that phrase several times. Same old from the repubs. Expect the same today.
Indigo buntings are pretty much the definition of blue. They really add a jolt of colour to early spring, so even though they don’t get up my way very often, I always look for them this time of year.
Rather watch them than the talking head shows any day.
Arianna!
I’m glad she’s on our side now. I still remember how frustrating it was to listen to her when she was a conservative. That woman can really argue effectively.
Kick George Will’s ass, Arianna.
morning puppies! 37 here
Sounds balmy to me – 20 here
for a second there I thought you had 37 puppies, which would be way more fun than 37 degrees.
It’s 43 here — degrees, not kittens.
Morning!
Waking up to snow in April sounds flat out depressing.
Trudy Rubin up on WJ with Scott Wilson, but no mention of Mothra.
lol
that ratfood is a card
It melts quickly so no need to shovel and the ground can use the water.
Katty Kay? What kind of a name is that?
Thanks, Elliot!
Mornin’, pups -
Saturday night was not a pleasant one at chez Waccamaw. Dumb-arse, stupid accident and here I sit with a one-inch gash and three stitches in the arch of the ol’ right foot plus no telling what size bill from the ER. :-(
Gonna put a major crimp in the gardening plans for an entended period of time. :-(((
What happened?
Hmmm, empty this morning. Must be some people are enjoying spring. Here in CNY, it’s overcast, gloomy and cold.
Oh Noes!
Sorry to hear this. Hope your healing is fast and not too uncomfortable, it’s no fun gimping around.
Morning sleepyheads
Good morning Elliot. I found a phantom dog statue on my porch last night. Quite odd. It’s a cocker spaniel, and I don’t care for the breed, which no one really knew until now. It’s a creepy looking thing, perhaps a nice Halloween decoration.
Left vacuum cleaner in wrong place, stumbled, put full body weight down on the prong you push to remove the sweeper head….least that’s the best I can reconstruct the scene. Go bare-foot twelve months out of the year except for going out in public. Mother always said I’d catch my death by cold….somehow she missed the more likely consequences.
Oh!! I am so envious! Indigo buntings. Creation gave the best of the palette to that little critter.
yeah, it’s been too chilly here (SE PA) — seems like one of those years where it goes from freezing to boiling, skipping the pleasant in-between.
Hey, there. Bet you thought I’d disappeared. No such luck! *g* MN temp is 33. Light snow. Couple of inches overnight. Heavy, heavy stuff that makes the trees look like wedding cakes. S’posed to move into the 50s coming week, so all for naught.
Had a friend who even mowed his yard barefoot. That was until he lost half of his foot.
How odd! They are cute dogs, sorry yours is kinda creepy looking.
The first time I ever saw Indigo Buntings, there were five in a bloomin’ apple tree. What a picture!
Bummer. Hope it heals quickly for you.
KVS. (Killer Vacuum Syndrome) So sorry. Urgh. Photographer friend of mine travels to Iraq, Afghanistan, Rwanda, etc. Hangs out of helicopters and off bridges to take photos. Took anti-terrorist training and wears Kevlar when she goes into dangerous zones. Broke leg tripping over something in her driveway. World is a dangerous place!
Yes it is odd. It’s in the trash can.
Definitely one exception to the bare-foot rule! Accidents are so often attributable to carelessness/inattention but, no offense to your friend, that one really is a no-brainer.
OMG, how exquisite! I’ve never seen one (1!) in the wild. I have indigo envy. Mood indigo?
Saw a car yesterday that was sporting a Newt in 2012 bumper sticker. Can’t remember exactly what it said, but it was kinda cheeky. Must be a joke, right?!
Was it refering to this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newt
Use your talent. A hat, sunglasses and a scarf should help. Really no idea who left it for you? There’s gotta be a story.
Treated anyone like a dog lately? I can’t imagine that, ’cause you’re such a cutey, but had to ask.
Somebody on the right must be making count-down clocks by now…….
Nah, the Wiki newts are cuter and far as I know, have never declared a contract on America.
Now that’s just stupid. Newt thinks he can take on Bama?
if only (love the amphibia)
Newt 2012, what a revolting idea. When is he going to crawl back under that rock?
I have no idea who or why they put it there.
Friday it was a singular phantom easter egg in a tree. It was one of the plastic ones, with a ribbon attached. As far as I could see there are no other ones in any neighbor’s tree around. It was placed there, It didn’t blow and land.
The house that was my aunt who passed away recently and which I’ve been cleaning out, was inherited from another aunt, and there were dog statues in her house, mainly poodles. Yesterday was the first day of the tag sale there. That’s what freaked me a bit when I saw it. This thing was deliberately set in the middle of the step. I feel like I’m in a scene from Gaslight.
fwiw CBS Sunday Morning:
Well his ego IS endless,
he’s on Fox News now but I can’t stomach him so the channel is changed. What a blight on humanity that mouldering crumb is.
Freaky. Needless to say, watch your back, friend.
Michelle’s wearing a bow today in the Czech Republic.
Mouldering crumb? That’s a little harsh dear. /s
Good Morning Elliott.
You *would* have watched faux noise had newtie *not* been on?……..Bless you, darlin’; your stomach is made of cast iron.
I’ll call the cops the next time. I was tempted last night but it’s was such a long day and I just got back from hanging with friends. I recently caught a couple young kids ringing my bell and running away. They were too far away to say anything, but they saw me watching them run.
That’s a harmless prank, and it stopped. But this is slightly different.
Morning to another early bird!
I’m tieing ribbons on palms for the Palm Sunday service at church. The kids group I lead is doing a little play and we practiced yesterday with costumes. A couple of the boys really went crazy with theirs. I mean, over the top, with gold hats and scarves and really wild. One of the parents, a really conservative type, asked me, Who is he supposed to be, all disgusted like, and I just smiled and said, it’s okay, he’s a Pharasee.
Good for you. Have fun.
If you’re really worried, check on Craigslist and get a camera set up.
:) I encourage them to be creative, and gee whiz, if you can’t over do it and have fun as a child, when the heck can you?
I can’t accurately assess from this distance, MM, but sounds to me like someone being an annoying trickster rather than an evil-doer. In fact, likely someoneS. Sounds like group-think. Probably Republicans!!
And Now For Something Completely Different
(First 5 minutes of the Python special on BBC)
I have friend who installs them so if it gets any further I’ll do that. I’ve just been stressed to max lately, and that just freaked me a little since earlier in the day at my aunt’s house with all 5 dog statues that she had in her house and we grouped together for the sale. And then seeing that last night just kind of shook me up.
I live in a very small town so I’ll go over to the municpal building today and talk to the officer on duty. If someone reported it stolen then it could be returned.
Keep encouraging them. All people have the ability to create in their own way. They need the encourage to find their own process for expressing it.
Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.
These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from four days to four years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years; It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium’s mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.
When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.
btw, Jane’s up
Shorter Elizabeth Warren: Timothy Geithner, WTF?
E-Yup. It’s my job to encourage the silly. Oh, boy.
Just added Fareed’s guests, why his website isn’t up to date is beyond me but here are the guests:
James Baker, Foreign Policy’s Moises Naim, and Financial Times’ Martin Wolf
I don’t know who was worse on This Week, Will or Huffington? OK, it was Will, but Huffington was horrible.
I suspect both may have been weaned on a damn lemon. It was painful to watch.
Interesting oldogld, sure do appreciate your reports. That show doesn’t air here for another half hour.

Ice Bridge Holding Antarctic Shelf in Place Shatters
By REUTERS
OSLO (Reuters) — An ice bridge holding a vast Antarctic ice shelf in place has shattered and may herald a wider collapse caused by global warming, a scientist said Saturday.
“It’s amazing how the ice has ruptured,” said David Vaughan, a glaciologist with the British Antarctic Survey. “Two days ago it was intact,” he said, referring to a satellite image of the Wilkins ice shelf.
The satellite picture, by the European Space Agency, showed that a strip of ice about 25 miles long that is believed to pin the ice shelf in place had snapped.
The loss of the ice bridge could mean a wider breakup of the ice shelf, which is about the size of Connecticut.
