Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Himes-Grayson give the Treasury Dept the freedom to honor the bonuses of TARP recipients?

I mean, has Geithner and the Treasury Dept ever thought that a bonus was “unreasonable?” I don’t think so.

In the House finance committee, one Congressman tried to limit “reasonable” bonuses to $1 million or less, but his amendment was defeated by a voice vote.

Instead of deciding what a “reasonable” bonus is for TARP recipients, Congress is passing the buck to Treasury and to Geithner. Don’t be surprised if this blows up in the Democrats’ face — when those bonuses are eventually reported in the newspaper.
