Earlier this morning, Paul Krugman delivered what Scott Horton (“No Comment”) afterwards correctly termed “a devastating judgment” on the Obama administration’s emerging economic policies. Wrote Krugman:

Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Colin Powell at the State Department, was, to put it mildly, irritated by Dick Cheney’s mendacious attacks on President Obama’s plans to close Guantanamo. So this week, he dropped these twin bombshells: 1) Even after the release of hundred of prisoners, most of the remaining Gitmo detainees are innocent, and 2) torture was being used on Gitmo detainees during the Bush administration, at least during the time that he was in a position to know about it. This news hits just as we’ve got word of a secret 2007 ICRC report proving and documenting the torture committed at CIA-run “black sites”.

Yes, AIG has given employees a memo warning them to watch for their own safety. But the apparent purpose of that memo is to make sure they don’t talk to the press.

I was about to write about Joe the Plumber’s bizarre comments at the Media Research Center’s Gala last night, came across these revealing remarks by Brit Hume, who received the MRC’s William F. Buckley Award for Wingnut Propaganda Media Excellence.

The White House spin doctors are getting a lot of help this morning from their scribes, trying to sell the point that the $165 million in bonuses to AIG executives is but a drop in the bucket compared to the much larger problem of fixing the economy. There is a great fear among the punditocracy that the ignorant masses in their blood lust will pervert serious efforts to deal with our economic challenges and make unseemly demands for vengeance.
