The Beatles – Taxman. Originally aired in 1967 on The Beatles Saturday morning tv show.
What’s on your mind tonight?
I had no idea The Beatles had a cartoon.
Hey Suz!
Evening Suz! Hows things?
Never saw Yellow Submarine?
g’evening pups – i used to watch it loohoo. it started off on sat morning but the last year (68) it was moved to sun morning
first time I can recall TPM linking to FDL
Digg is open Pups!!
What did you do this time, Suzanne?
Dugg!
innocent look – uh nuttin honey
wow – first i recall punaise. thanks
thanks for opening the digg nahant
Where da toon go?
Was either Paul McCartney or Michael Jackson took it down. /s
oh.. the show was cancelled in 68… and i had nothing to do with that decision
Did you see Colbert slice and dice Glen Beck? Brilliant.
hasn’t aired on the west coast yet
I’d almost forgotten about this show, Suz.
Great song.
from the wiki link in the post:
thanks margot – tomorrow is april 1 -official start of the procrastinators tax season
Hey, glance over to your right and take note of this:
FWIW, the second author on that book is Obama’s friend and mentor, Cass Sunstein, whose influence I sometimes blame for Obama’s bad decisions.
Is there a video link?
Well, of course, but I didn’t know about a Saturday morning thing. I must have been inside the Yellow Submarine!
Links at Colbert’s place won’t be up until the West Coast airs.
Not altogether favorable either.
I’m sure I must have seen it but I was never a big Beatles fan, they were a smidge too early for me, the Monkeys, on the other hand, I remember watching regularly.
I never was a Rolling Stones fan, either.
So does eCAHN!
never figured you for a last train to clarksville kinda dood
I’d love to stay and chat but I have to go get my toof put back in my head a little more permanently, wayyyyy to early in the morning for my taste.
Gthud pups!
It was filler before The Munsters came on.
BWAAAAAHHHAHAHAHAAAA!
Gnite dear.
Not a Stones fan? Even my daughters are Stones fans. Beatles too. And Marley, Hicks, and Peter, Paul and Mary.
rut roh! oh noz and i do not like dentists
g’thud dear
I like it all well enough, I am just not a big fan.
Peter, Paul and Mary?
puff the magic dragon
I have to admit, I’m not a Stones fan, never was. Though they put out a few songs I love. Not a Beatle fan either. But LOVED a few songs.
The band from the English Invasion I liked was The Animals. That was a band that influenced my perceptions at a tender age!!
They all sound great to me!! But there are so many more from that era!
oh yeah… love eric burton and the animals
That’s what I figured. Kids lapped that up.
Sorry about what must have sounded like odd questions before, but I was having trouble getting the vid to play and was wondering if the trouble was on your end.
Oh, gawd. Now the pundits are going to start complaining about how muscular Michelle’s legs are.
Puff The Magic Dragon from 1966.
My oldest sister used to see Mary at the parties she was going to when she lived in Greenwich Village in the late 50’s to early 60’s.
utube is doing some maintenance right now and they are sorta wonky. hopefully they will finish soon
Good. I’ve not gotten a lot of traction with that observation.
House of the Rising Sun.
egad – first the arms now the legs. soon they are gonna be trash talking about her hair and/or makeup.
wow – bet your sister has some great stories
PP&M…Where Have all the Flowers Gone?
John Lennon was a big fan of H R Puffinstuff. He had the show recorded so he would not miss an episode.
Oh, I’ve seen your obs. twice today, wigwam.
I just silently agreed. Sunstein was one of the first to go public with the whole “we have to move on” from torture/war crimes, and therefore shouldn’t investigate, let alone prosecute.
I’m pretty unimpressed with big-O’s campaign promises in light of most of the advisors he’s chosen for the most pressing issues. (or vice-versa, not impressed with the advisors in light of the promises).
Can we start calling the conserva-dems FalseFlag-o-crats instead? Or something like that with false-flag in the name? That’s all they are, really.
FunnyD
Somehow I think this song is called for.
Link
oh geez, i’ve not heard that in forking years! thanks margot
HOW COOL! I started the Beatnic Club when I was in 6th grade with my little friends. We went down the street and listened to PPM and Dylan with lots of Bongo Drums. The real Beatnics were probably stoned!
Oh, dear. I hope your sis didn’t turn into one of those bongo-beating beatniks.
Oops. Hi Suz! Hi, Pups! Hope all y’all are having a good evening.
Suz, how would you feel about my coming down your way for a few days after Easter? My temp job ends on Friday april 10th. I’ll have been there nearly 10 months and really glad to have had the work.
Anyhoo, just floating the idea. I’m going to need a change of scene here pretty darn soon.
FunnyD
For all that Obama talks about change, this Nudge philosophy that he seems to subscribe to is about minimizing change. And, when I stop listening and start watching, I see nudges at most.
There is something to be said for a minimal intervention strategy in the proper circusmtances. But, IMHO, these are not they.
permission to send ya email?
Ok, all you fabulo-pups. Bedtime for this Bonzo. Or is that bozo? Whichever, it’s time.
Take care of yourselves!
FunnyDiva
Not quite but she did come home with a bunch of baggage that she never got over. She got me into a lot of different kinds of music from that era including Sonny Stit and other Jazz musicians
I think one of my daughters classes did a tap dance to that song!
I typed beatnic and beatnik. k is right.
g’nite funnyd
Heck, yeah, you still got my addy? Or facebook should send me an email if you message me that way.
funnydiva*2002* at yahoo etc (but without the asterisks. all 1 word, all lowercase.)
Hope you’re well! Can’t wait to catch up a bit!
PS, pups, I’m lurking more than posting these days, but I’m still here and still love you all dearly!
FunnyD
Same here FunnyD!
Love you too, FunnyHusseinDiva!
i’m legal (again) geez, that wudda been very embarrassing if i had been caught
She did Suz but she is not with us she passed two years ago. But she did tell me many stories back in the sixties..

There was a radio program at the student station in Albuquerque years ago, every Friday night, where prisoners at the state pen in Santa Fe and their girlfriends/wives could write and request songs. It was just about all that era of music and it seemed to really fit.
Sonny Stitt is worth a few parties and jugwine hangovers.
i’m sorry nahant. such wonderful memories to hold dear.
*laughing* when in prison, its all about the love that ya wanna make and cant
there are many good and some not so good. she had issues and I had to help for months as Dad wouldn’t so I got drafted… again..
I’m a dance-around-the-roomer to Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.
Only because a dear friend sent The Animals Retrospective to me last month.
It was so cool to hear these songs! I usually prefer to listen to new music as opposed to songs I recognize by the third chord. It was a fun mailbox treat!
K it is. And if you’re in the neighborhood I’ve got some nice old wood blocks for you.
Hi, Suz!
Gee, big report on Rachel Maddow tonight: the anarchists are well organized!
…but …then… how can they be anarchists???
Bob in HI
I have the DVD, is that what you mean? I’m really into getting the DVDs over Best Of CDs now so you can see them and hear them. Try the Roy Orbison Pretty Woman DVD…
i only caught part of her show tonight – was cooking spaghetti dinner and had to keep walking away from the tv to check dinner
And the ever faithful tamborine?
At the same time I headed up the Beatnik Club, I got kicked out of the Girl Scouts. My leader wore white lipstick and I could not stop laughing. Poof. Kicked out.
She was probably a Beatnik too…
I’m holding on to the rest of my percussion instruments. The kid took half of them to DC with him. Sorry, no tamborine, but if you ever need advice….
White lipstick??? You sure she wasn’t heavy into the milk of magnesia?
white lipstick and black eye liner?
I was gonna say!
Maybe she was going skiing.
what area are ya in mac?
white lipstick is still available
No, the CD. From the used record store, for $1.
I’m going to find King Crimson, Court of he Crimson King and blow her mind. Far Out!! *g*
Scott Murphy kinda reminds me of Dudley Do Right.
and white go-go boots…
This sounds like a pretty suspicious group of Girl Scouts.
NYC
i’ve known several who remind me of dudley – but none are canadians in love with their horse /s
Ha hah! Yes on the black eyeliner, but judging by her turquoise stretch pants and yellow fuzzy sweater, I doubt she was going skiing!
I have always loved Roy Orbison
Running Scared
way kewl – nyc is on my list of places to visit before i die. tis a pretty long list tho – guess i should call it a wish list so that it doesn’t sound like such a downer
Loo Hoo, cool site
about pop culture
happy together always takes me right back to being a teen – can practically smell the noxzema and tanning lotion.
How would I know? They wouldn’t freaking have me! I will admit to not wanting to be there though. (If you can’t laugh, what’s the point?)
Cher=Nefertiti?
ok. hey margot
wow, that’s a pretty groovy happening site margot
Whassup, y’all?
Tonight’s question is simple:
Ain’t Love Strange?
wow, thanks for the heads up about colbert taking glen beck to the woodshed.
my fav paul thorn song for sure that guy – how ya doing?
Dugg it
hi folks, what’s up?
That outfit sounds familiar. Did she have a small tattoo of Froggy the Gremlin on her left shoulder?
Good one I DO remember the Turtles.
hey neuro – how’s kansas tonight?
Hey Neuro whatssup
Better than last week – must have more seratonin goin on.
I’ve been groovin on ol’ PT. Remind me to tell youthe story Paul told me about “Brother Williams.” You can’t share it but I think you’d get a hoot out of it.
Okay I had to get my Roy Orbison DVD. Check it out. It’s called Black and White Night, with Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, J. D. Souther, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, and Jennifer Warner. To Die For!
Never been to NYC? Your lungs, eardrums, and sense of decorum are in for a treat.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the LateNight Firepup Patriots:
Ah another night in the box, keep the music hot and the aguments hotter, I’m here for the duration.
The question of the night is are we gunna have another recount fiasco in NY20…what’s the last count?
And how ’bout that Al Franken…looks like he’s not only gunna be on the floor in time for the budget and healthcare votes but he’s gunna make One Hung Harry Reid grow a pair and nuke the filibuster to seat ‘im.
Any Edward Teller sightings lately…he was gunna have some surgery and is still workin both ends with the political bloggin’.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE STRUGGLE GOES ON AND ON AND…
it is the song of my early teen years. the later years is the spy
send it to me email dood – looking forward to it (locking lips and throwing away the key)
still here–sunshine on Tuesday but about 50 degrees with a cool breeze
waiting to see if our gov gets confirmed as sec of HHS
good for her but not so much for the state Dems…we’re short of a candidate for 2010
The song with k.d. is superb.
Citizen LooHoo:
“To die for” is right…what a great disc…I’m gunna look for that one…think I ken get it at Discount Books?
Twiggy was one of my favs! I had a blond gf who did her hair and make-up Twiggy style!
i think he was here last nite or the nite before – the surgery isn’t until may irrc
how ya doing tonight norske?
my sense of decorum left many years ago (thank goodness)
Link??
speaking of not seeing in a few days – anyone heard from katymine?
its on tv right now – should be up at comedy central after the show airs
Like I said lurve me some Roy Orbison(:>))
A love so Beautiful
I have no idea. The cheap perfume acted as a repellent.
LEA!
But I can tell that your others senses are still sharp.
What day in October?
I love Roy Orbison. I never appreciated his music other than Pretty Woman until recently.” Pretty Woman” definitely had a lot to do with my parents’ growing concern as a teenager.
It sounds so bizarre now, but we were forced to do a semester in “Finishing” as middle school girls growing up in Little New Dream on the Prairie, Denver,Co circa “64″. A quarter session for 2 years. With the stated goal that we grow up to be the refined wives of young professionals. The American Dream. Up and down stairs with books on our heads. Walk from the hips, lead into a step from the pelvis, back straight, shoulders relaxed, tits up,,,tummy firm. Keep a little music ditty in your head while walking through a room so as to control your composure and your pace. $mile. I’m amazed I’m not more warped. This was public school.
Anyway, Pretty Woman was the music that turned all those stupid, boring, why do girls do this shit when boys get to do shop ..turned all that oppression into the perfect fucking figure 8 ass motion a rebellious girl could want. What were they thinking?
Thank you,Roy!
15
my folks signed me up for the montgomery ward ‘finishing’ classes. took away a huge chunk of my saturdays as a teen, walking around with forking books on my head and learning how to sit in a micromini without doing a sharon stone.
Well nite pups time to hit the sack with my sweetie. Sweet dreams when ya get there(:>))
Kennedy was there for Sebelius today. (She has to pay back $7K in taxes.)
g’nite nahant, sweetie, and tucker
She paid it back already… next shoe, please?
Sebelius Nominee Pays More Than $7,000 In Back Taxes
nite nahant
loohoo, i just checked and colbert doesn’t have the new show up yet. this is where i’m checking for it at
Here it is at Amazon. Get used.
Are you excited about having a new Senator soon, Norske?
wasn’t it also a special on pbs – roy orbison and friends or is that a different one.
When I moved to a new HS during the middle of my junior year, I signed up for woodshop. They would (wood!) have none of it until I pitched a fit. Even then I had to take an art/wood class.
Yup. and they show it when they need pledge money.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHA! Paul Thorn will be in the area beginning of August!
Happy dance!
Don’t know about that. I should be going to bed, but it’s so fun here!
So, in the long run, aside from the sexist bullshit, did you learn tools to prepare you for life as a woman?
i signed up for summer school my freshman year – wanted to take a class that had a field trip to la to universal and nbc studio and had to take a second class so i signed up for metal shop. major hissy fit by the metal shop instructor who was a jerk whenever i dared step foot into the sacred male only metal shop to attend class.
i refused to let him intimidate me into dropping the class and made a metal peace sign (which also pissed him off)
Same here. The woman who sent the Animals cd was my co-hort to forcing the hs to let us take wood shop. Very edgy in those days. ” Could distract the boys too much.”.
I’m sure that if any of us were up for confirmation in the O administration we’d check to see if anything needed to be corrected.
i learned how to appear graceful even tho i am not and how to put people at ease with small talk – both of which came in handy when i was wearing my badge.
Interesting. A bunch of rabble-rouzers around these parts. Cool that we all found FDL!
If I were to describe someone wearing a badge, “graceful appearance” doesn’t spring to mind.
How did you find it helpful?
Citizen Suzanne:
I got a pulse and a blood pressure…it doesn’t get much better’n that but I’m gettin a bit tired of the fascists fuckin with our electioin system…I think it’s time ta run all those bastards out and I think that the DCCC, the DSCC, the DNC and Obama have finally figured out that they’ve got enough juice ta tell the fascists ta jest “fuck off” ‘cuz there are a lotta folks out here on the greast tundra who are sick and tired of this bullshit.
Now if One Hung Harry Reid will jest grow a pair a balls and nuke the fillibuster…I think that’s one antique Senate courtesy that has long outlived any usefulness it ever had.
it always makes people uneasy when the person with the gun stumbles and falls down
I always found that it gave me more time to flee.
And I think it’s about that time now.
Catch me later.
Driftglasses blogiversary! I’d wish him/her well, but I can never login at C&L. There’s a conspiracy of some sort! ;~)
Hi-dilly-ho-dilly neighboreenos !
harry’s too busy keeping his power dry to do anything.
i wish we had someone with brass ones running the senate.
laughing
hard to outrun the police radio – but it can be done
Citizen openhope:
Ol’ Roy is an aquired taste but once aquired your musical universe opens up for ya…he’s the real deal and he is an historical artifact, his sound brings back a lotta history for me…but I’m an old fart and didn’t really understand what I was hearin’ when I first heard ‘im.
Enjoy!
hey petro – whacha doing up so late?
dang loohoo, still not up :(
What the hell? You come knocking at the door at this hour?
(((Love ya, Petro!)))
I’m usually up way past this time, writing these damn books that are still looking for an Agent ! *g*
I keep away from y’all so’s I can be a famous, rich Author an’ such …
*mwaah* … love ya back !
Someone mentioned Roy Orbison … he had the most amazing croonin’ voice evvah !
What’re we talkin’ about, here ?!!
… ducks and runs from the quickest draw in the West …
Check Sweet Dreams, Baby.
colbert took glen beck to the woodshed – twas a thang of beauty petro
I know what a big hit Pretty Woman was but my fav has always been Only The Lonely
Was Becks on the show ? I TiVo’d it and will watch it tomorrow.
Suz, I thought it was a crucification. Well beyond parody.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
hey petro
not on the show – twas the first segment – before the guest and the word
Newt ! They expect to be hammered by Jon but Stephen manages to catch them unawares …
Actually, I’ll have to respectfully disagree. I’ve recently been in situations that involved being pulled over by the police.
Each young officer,[ highway patrol] was graceful, fit and lithe as they bent into the vehicle and smooth talked the young mohawks….. The fat town cops, not so much, they go for “local presence”.
It’s tense driving to protests when the youngbloods are running the show. I do believe profiling is alive and thriving in our America. When they were young and we took my van and I drove as an invisible, middle-aged woman…jeez,.
I could’ve driven by a cop with a full middle finger salute and they wouldn’t have seen me/us.
So, I got Barry Cooper’s ” Never Get Busted Again” and we had a homeschool time.
Was it the cryin’ thing ? Dammit, now I can’t wait ’til tomorrow to watch it …
must.keep.writing.bestseller.
time for me to head out. thanks for letting me spend some time with ya.
g’nite all
Hey Norske ! Didja get my e-mails ?
G’nite Suz !
yup (wicked grin)
Very pretty song, but I don’t like the premise of it. The ‘ol fashioned idea that if you’re not hooked up you’re miserable. It doesn’t really work for me.
Now the fuzz is gone, we can have some real fun !
Can’t wait to see it, newt!
Most of the 60’s stuff was about love, broken love, etc.
It made for lots of tight, slow dances, so I didn’t mind it at all ! *g*
good night suzanne
a pleasure as always
Dammit, looks like buster killed the thread …
Yeah, nice work!
*blame the white guy !*
evil, dude
ok, blaming glenn beck
It was always a coincidence, but every slow dance seemed to be with Bill Walton for me…
Helix High.
Night, Suzanne. Thank you.
ROFL … I can’t go and watch Colbert at this hour (4 a.m.) cuz I’ll wake everyone up, laughing as loudly as I do …
The Bill Walton or just some cousin of John Boy ?
You are right. It is screamingly funny. The word eviscerate comes to mind. And the truly unsatisfying thing about it is – the possibility that Beck is such a fucking brain-donor that he might not be disturbed by it. Anyone with 2 or 3 functioning synapses would.
Glenn might call Stephen to thank him … what a Rube !
Colbert has the unique ability to nullify the old maxim, “Any publicity is good publicity.”
He was in rare form tonight. This was literally difficult to watch, and impossible to turn away from.
The Bill Walton. I then followed him closely in college as he became a hippie!
I just went to comedy central…no luck. To bed for me.
Drat … makes not watching it that much more difficult …
Uhmm, I think there’s 2 60’s. One when rock was formulating. One when rock took a huge leap. 1967-69. My sixties. We thought the early 60’s were stupid. And Elvis was kind of a weird creep, but his late night TV movies were campy-fun. We were Cream, Joplin, Hendrix, etc. “Hair”, the original play.
What a difference even 5 years can make on youth culture.
Yeah, they are taking their sweet time getting it up.
nite loo hoo
4:10 in windy Toronto … someone, somewhere in the city has started to make fresh, delicious Bagels … G’nite all !
It’s on again here in fifteen minutes…
nite petro
i’m out, too
Yes, it does. I know another great media moment is passing me by. Damn.
I am in your age group. Graduated HS in 70. Spent hours on the base of the fireplace singing “Come on, come on, come on. Take another little piece of my heart now, baby” with Janis (and my bff). But I still love the early 60’s material too.
Attaturk is upstairs!
The never-ending stream of Good News for Republicans
