OK, I will confess, it doesn’t quite feel like November where I am, but in Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Essex, Greene, Ostego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties, there is a touch of autumn in the air. As we’ve been discussing here in recent weeks, there was a special election to fill the seat vacated by now-Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, with Scott Murphy trying to hold the seat for the Democrats, and Jim Tedisco trying to get this majority R district back into the other column.
As we reported earlier today, Tedisco has his own case of the jitters. This district should be a cakewalk for a Republican, but Obama and Gillibrand won this district with ample breathing room in November, and the missteps of Tedisco and his national GOP brethren haven’t helped. Indeed, it appears Tedisco is expecting the worst, having filed a motion to prevent his opponent from being certified the winner—and doing so over 11 hours before the polls had closed.
Well, those polls have now closed. You can follow results with the good folks at The Albany Project, or over the Saratogan, you can find some raw numbers. Below, please feel free to add your own reports from on the ground—wherever your ground may be.

Republicans are Losers in sense of the word!
I’m not on the ground, Gregg.
But his internals must have been for shit, and weeks ago.
Thanks.
I thought Teh Disco went out of style in teh 80s. Between that rap sensation Grandmaster Steele and Teh Disco, man those Repubs are some hep cats.
I’m told that psychological regression is a feature and not a bug in GooperLand. But you have to see Ann Coulter speaking in person to trigger it.
Ya, they are really hep. For 60 years ago.
i’ll be monitoring various websites
as of 8:45
MURPHY – 53,250 50%
TEDISCO- 54,201 50%

Everything N of Saratoga is going heavily for Murphy.

The comments section has more recent data and it looks like Tedisco is winning.
Per The Albany Project results thread:
“UPDATE 10:02 One thing is clear, there will be no winner tonight given that there are about 5,900 absentee ballots out there.”

nite. thanks for the updates.
538 is projecting Tedisco as winner. But it will interesting.
No winner tonight; time for the lawyers to engage.
Murphy: 74,221
Tedisco: 74,251
The Republiklan party has a sordid history of truculence in just about everything they do. First the stolen 2000 election, then the Minnesota Senate race and now this. This party looks unhinged.
I say that we should boycott the friends of the Republiklan party who make consumer items and put that party out of their misery.
It’s a nail-biter.

It’s always the lawyers that end up winning, eh Teddy? Aloha Ya’ll! ;-)
I’ve been doing that for the past 25 years to the extent possible. They don’t appear to notice but it makes me feel better.
Hey CT, how’re things out West?
One precinct left; Murphy up by 81 votes, per Albany Project commenters.
If this is anything like November, I would expect the absentee ballots to trend Murphy. Not exactly a certainty though, given the number of Republicans registered in the district.
Could always be better… However, doing alright! ;-)
For the past several years my standard reply to questions like that has been “Never better.” It’s more ambiguous than people tend to assume.
Fitz!
For old times’ sake :)
What Tedisco will be throwing if Murphy wins.
Yes, that does take us back! :)
How can anyone file to stop a candidate from being certified before the votes are even counted?
As of 10:31 PM with all but one precinct reporting, Murphy’s ahead by 81 votes. I’m starting to see why Tedisco is planning on all these challenges – this one looks to be close.
Tedisco’s motion asked that Murphy not be certified no matter how great the margin. My understanding is that the court threw that part out immediately.
I would hope so!
That’s basically telling everyone who voted for Murphy that they have no vote, and I’d be thinking about pitchforks, or tar and feathers.
Final precinct in with Murphy holding a 65 vote lead. Time will tell if he can hang onto it.
All precincts in. Murphy up 65 votes
Hold onto that thought, it might yet prove necessary.
Murphy with a 65 vote lead tonight; 5900 absentee still to be counted, with additional military and overseas ballots permitted for another two weeks.
This race was not a big deal to me. I’m just glad we’ve denied all those freeking talking heads from saying that a repub win meant more than it actually did.
I just hope Michael Grandmaster Steele doesn’t lose his job over this. He’s the gift that keeps on giving!
Albany Project points out: wouldn’t it suck for Teh Disco if he lost by ONE vote, since he doesn’t live in the district and therefore couldn’t vote for himself?
Won’t happen. With Grandmaster in charge, this just has to be a fakeout in a larger plan to succeed beyond anyone’s ability to comprehend.
Ta-Dah!
Two f****ing weeks?
You’ve got to be kidding me. How in the world can you hold an election with absentee returns allowed for two weeks after the nominal election day? That’s insane!
What? He doesn’t live in the district he ran in?
DUGG!
I guess this use of all these lawyers should make it clear that the Rethugs really do like lawyers. All this talk about how Lawyers cause all our problems that the Rethugs spew is just a bunch of hooey/puckyshit!!
Nope; like California and some other states I imagine, New Yorkers need only be resident in the state, not the district. It’s how Charlie Brown got beat by a right-wing GOP from 400 miles away last time.
Franken/Coleman Part II.
watertiger rises to the top!
Swing and a Hiss: Ann Coulter Loses the Anti-Abortion Crowd
He’s a cause-and-effect kind of guy.
I didn’t know that and I’m a New Yorker.
It’s not a requirement in most States, solai.
Here in NM-2 last November we had Harry Teague (D-Little Texas) vs. Ed Tinsley (R-Denial). Harry lives in Hobbs or some other godawful place in SE New Mexico, and Tinsley lives in the Adobe Theme Park (a/k/a Santa Fe). Tinsley claimed that he lived on his ranch in Lincoln County, which is in the District. But how can you ever know where somebody who has two (or more) houses lives?
That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard this month, and I was at Fort Bragg last week.
Don’t election officials plan anything?
Just to put a bow on this thread:
MURPHY – 77,344 50%
TEDISCO- 77,279 50%
610 of 610 reporting.
As noted above, some 5,900 absentee ballots are yet to be counted, and there will be a wait for overseas and military ballots.
So, not such a nice, neat bow, I guess. At least not yet.
Thanks, everyone!
thanks gregg
