It’s not Glenn Beck saying this. It’s the Senate Minority Leader.
“I’m not sure that’s what people voted for. I mean they were angry with President Bush. They were not happy with the economy…. Whether they intended to see America kind of turned into a Western European country as a result of an explosion of spending and debt and regulation is another matter.”
Since 64% of the country currently approves of President Obama, I would say that either (a) two-thirds of the country equates the Economic Recovery bill and increasing the upper tax margin by 4% to socialism; or (b) Mitch McConnell is an idiot who shouldn’t be taken seriously about anything.
“Republicans are very much in favor of dealing with [the country’s economic crisis],” McConnell said. “What we’re not in favor of is going on this spending spree over the next five to 10 years and sending the bill to our grandchildren.”
That’s true. They were only willing to do so under George W. Bush.

Notice that there’s nothing about what republighouls WOULD do.
Tax cuts for rich people?
Do I get another guess?
France? Now, we’re turning into a country whose leaders thought invading Iraq would be a disaster? How low can we go?
My guess is b).
Come, now, BT, you know that (b) is a given! ; )
These people just won’t give up, will they? Of course, McConnell wouldn’t have a clue anyway about “what people voted for.” If he knew, he wouldn’t do what he always does and has done.
He might want to think for a moment about WHY people were angry w/ Bush.
Il ne pourrait pas arriver trop tôt.
nah
Forgive me for what I’m about to say. Dear Mitch is like a former bull who just can’t quite figure out what on earth happened to him and his career plans some ways back. Why on earth is anyone cowtowing to this preening bulloon? Because he is the least noxious, least toxic, … um …???
Does anyone know for sure about this, but didn’t the Obama Admin now move the costs of the Iraq/Afghan Invasions and Occupations into the overall budget and deficit numbers?
Under Boosh, those costs were somehow kept out of national debt calculations, whereas now they are included, if I’m not mistaken thanks to Obama. This would obviously balloon the nation debt and is very responsible and necessary, yet I have not heard one single mention of this in any BigMedia “news” outlet. The BigMedia mavens are trying so hard to keep the “Librul=tax and spenders” while Repubs are “reasonable and responsible.” I guess Repubs are responsible though…for incredible Death and Destruction throughout the world.
((((France)))) Were it only so.
Mitch Mc. is an imbecile and the level of discourse on the economy from the right has been pathetic. But I think it is a mistake, one that the left is prone to, to imagine that the Republicans are engaged in a policy debate. That isn’t their interest, never has been. The scattershot of extreme statements and imagery they are throwing out is designed to reseed the fields of resentment. I’ve finally been able to bring myself to watch clips of Limbaugh lately, and found it really bone-chilling. Their goal is that when all has not become perfect in a year or two’s time, they will have a well-primed base of frustrated, hate-filled souls to whom they chant: “we warned you about this.” I think they are also aware of the full spectrum of feelings they are inciting, including the more violent ones…
Has anyone called this dork on his problems with giving our children a huge tax bill now vs. his total obliviousness six years ago? Don’t these people understand irony? Are they really that dense?
AFAIK, France has not yet nationalized their auto industry
If the Republican description of left-center-right were a football field, the Republicans would kick off from their opponent’s 40-yd line, while the other team would kick off from their end zone. When will Democrats effectively call Republicans on their absurdly selfish double standard?
No No Yes
This has been digest edition of Simple Answers to Simple Questions
They don’t care. They understand their base and hope it will grow as the economy and the country sink. In a year they will be openly blaming the black president. Right now a lot of the racism is in code. When they feel stronger it will be even more evil.
BT, just wanna say sorry to hear that the loonies are running the Texas Board of Education Asylum. That is sure one way to show Texas is not France.
I grew up in Louisiana. As children we used to make fun of the kids from Texas. Go figure.
I guess that means Mr. McConnell expects we will shortly have one of Europe’s best medical program’s, one of its best worker protection schemes, a standard 36-hour work week, and a decent pension for all.
Or was Mr. McConnell criticizing such things. Does he want only to subsidize industry while giving voters jobs at Wal-Mart?
And vacations!!!!
Has anyone ever seen Mr. McConnell smile? Once?
A vacation would be nice right now.
Sans blague.
Oooh, when he does it’s just…creepy.

Yikes.

ATTENTION ALL BLACKHEADS: Set your Crackberries: The Fourth of July will be on the Fourteenth from now on.
Until then, GOTH GIRLS ROCK!!!

Mitch and his party also wants to turn the our country into France, but the France he wants is the France of 1760…a priest ridden hereditary aristocracy.
McConnell’s Neocakes
Oligarch’s just love them.
If this idiot had the slightest idea what he was babbling about, he’d know that Western Europe has a much lower proportion of debt than the U.S. It’s a condition for membership in the EU that your debt can only be within a certain proportion of your GDP.
Of course, not getting involved in asinine wars every 10 years probably helps keep spending under control.
Mitch McConnell and his friends are turning America into Kentucky.
Hey, ES. Saw that you just became a facebook fan of Baltasar Garzon too. h/t CTMET.
No habla! /s
Mitch, you slime suckin’ son of a bitch! Having been born in the United States, but now being a French National, I’m not so sure that your are welcome in France these days. Sorta looks like there’s gonna be a bounty out on a lot of the top repig xtian fundies who preached too heavily, the doctrines of poison that they are drowning in today… Nope, I don’t think that anyone who keeps on trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results, will gain any positive thoughts among the people of science and law and not from ignorance, authoritarianism, or religion/superstition.
Just this old Chief’s 2¢
Ahhh, yes. I’ll take the 17th arrondisement anytime to this dump.
McConnell is likely a closeted gay hypocrite:

Nothing wrong with western Europe the last time I was there (which was probably more recently than Mitch McConnell’s last visit). Maybe he should shut his trap before he ends up looking (more) like an idiot.
Click on fans. The list is growing. Folks from all over the world. Italy, Ireland, Hong Kong.
Join up, pups!
But does he have charts? Show us the charts! I want to see the diagrams.
I would settle for Sweden: they deal with their banks according the rule of law and sound economics. And I read they are cutting Saab loose to fend for itself. Let’s hear it for Good Viking Capitalism, as opposed the declining crony capitalist senile plutokleptrocy kind.
Oh. We don’t have that already? I though he was trying to perpetuate it.
Hunh. Maybe it is time for this semi-Luddite to join Facebook.
And, don’t you love the web; following links led me to a new poem by Federico Garcia Lorca – apparently unpublished until long after I was studying his work in college. (it seems Garzon did a full investigation of Lorca’s execution by the franquistas, among his other accomplishments).
I’d rather the country be turned into France than be turned into Barstow, which is (presumably) what McConnell, etal would prefer.
Teddy is upstairs!
Employee Free Choice: Whither Feinstein?
Come on up and visit with Teddy!!
Oh No! That means there are “French Fries” in America again.
I guess they feel there aren’t enough sensitive French Americans to worry of insulting…
Or the Fifth, the Seventh, even the haute bourgeois 16th.
The world’s best government-provided medical system, 36 hour workweeks and 5 weeks’ vacation? Oh, the horror!!
Please Mitch McConnell, deliver me back to fire-at-will employers with nonexistent crooked ‘profit-sharing’, 2 weeks’ vacation and shitty bureaucratic HMOs, I beg you.
I know why employers love the US system, but why are so many working people so parochial and stupid to buy the conceit that “Murka’s the BEST” when it so obviously isn’t in many measures? Or do gun rights and SUV ownership really trump all else?
Nor are they trillions in debt.
kewl
It isn’t the absolute greatest, but there are worse.
The nice part is Mitch is yapping like an ankle biter dog into a tornado.
Nobody can hear him.
When we were voting know one could know how really really bad things were after 8 years of bush.
MCCain, the fundamentals of our economy is strong, is either a liar or got his talking points from the bush admin. at the time. That would show them to be clueless.
I live repubs talking about the debt. They did not care about it when they were contributing to it, it meant that they could and did give their friends tax cuts !!! And they can’t do that anymore.
