Oh, behold the self-reverent, self-proclaimed, brave ones in today’s Washington Post:
Beyond the chessboard of the Senate, nearly half of the U.S. electorate calls itself moderate, and more than half of the rest identify themselves as conservative. That means Democrats could capture every liberal vote and half of the moderates and still lose at the polls. Many independents voted for President Obama and the contours of his change agenda, but they will not rubber-stamp it. They are wary of ideological solutions and are overwhelmingly pragmatic. Many of them live in our states and in the states of the other senators who have joined our group.
Evan Bayh, Blanche Lincoln, and Tom Carper — we strongly believe in the loaded drivel of bullshit polls and empty platitudes!
Behold us villagers, worship us, and make sure there’s plenty of cream cheese in the Meet the Press green "blue" room.

About Firedoglake
Truth was abundant last night on Keith’s program.
Thanks
The “Connecticut for Lieberman” party has metastized.
Attaturk explain if nearly half the electorate is moderate and more than half are conservative just how many liberal votes are there?
Also who are these independent voters Evan speaks of if Moderates are nearly half and Conservatives more than half?
If Evan’s Math is right just who voted for Obama?
Does Evan know what Conservative means? End the war we have a majority. Hate the bank bailout Big majority, Healthcare reform we have a majority.
Believe in global Warming something Evan’s group of Blue dogs doesn’t we have a majority. Prefer Obama’s plan to fix the economy to anything the GOP plus the Blue dogs want super majority the Left may not like Obama’s plan but its better than Evan’s.
Evan and his group after years of bending over for Bush say now is the time to be responsible with our money?
Evan has never heard of Keynes when nobody is spending like now when the banks won’t lend Government is the spender of last resort.
So let me get this straight Us Senators can lie in Newspapers with no Editors objecting?
Because a majority voted for Obama and if Conservatives were the majority Obama would not be President.
I wonder if we did a pol how many people would identify Conservative with racist?
How many would Identify Conservative with bank bailouts?
Opposing Global Warming? Screwing college kids by giving banks student loan money for doing nothing?
Wars for Oil? War Profiteering?
Everything we threw at the Republicans we can throw against the Blue Dogs.
Either Obama gets those dogs on a Leash…or we will! Our way!
Let’s not be so quick to dismiss the Post’s poll. It may well be right. The problem is that what Bushco did was not conservatism. Let’s see.
Needlessly getting us into the Iraq war (non-conservative).
Running up the biggest budget deficits in history (non-conservative).
Using the the Justice Dept as a political instrument (non-conservative).
The problem is that somehow conservative has come to be conflated with the Rethugs, and liberal with the Dems. But actually the (reasonably popular and reasonably successful) Clinton administration followed many conservative (small c) policies such as balancing the budget.
To oversimplify, the polls sugggest that the public wants progressive social policies but conservative fiscal and foreign policies (in normal times). Of course right now exceptional measures appear warranted to correct the financial mess left behind by Bushco.
blerglfwump.
err,…
‘mornin all.
Good morning, pups. MoDo is off today, and The Moustache of Wisdom is letting us in on “The Secrets of a Pollster.” He informs us that Stan Greenberg, who polled for Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Ehud Barak and Tony Blair, says that the best leaders learn from their crashes, adjust, persist and succeed.
Here he is.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got apple walnut muffins today. Those of you who don’t live around here may not sympathize, but the gnats are out in force. If you’re in New England think no-see-ums. For some reason they look on me as an ambulatory buffet. They can’t bite through clothing, but they WILL find any 1/8 inch of unprotected skin… I itch. Have a great day.
I itch.
I bitch.
We really oughta hang out….
You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours!
Blue poodles!
kinda like pink elephants, eh?

what a rediculous sentence
the “ideology” of fixing this economy is using what worked in the past and NOT using what caused the problem
that’s what people WANT, they do NOT want republicans obstructing the programs that WILL create jobs, WILL expand the middle class, WILL enhance our economy
that’s what’s “pragmatic” and that means a new deal agenda, only bigger
the ONLY problem with the correct pragmantic approach is the fact that obama has married himself to banks, wall street and their well being rather then the middle class
I thought he would learn and become more progressive like fdr but obama is unlearning and becoming just like bush
I want him to STOP worrying about wall street, the health of casinos calling themselves banks and STARY worrying about the only thing that matters in our economy;
a healthy, working, happy and well compensated middle class
THAT’S all obama needs to worry about, but alas, he is not nearly the learning president I hoped
I completely enjoyed watching President Obama cut off Ed Henry’s testicles last night with a Ginsu knife. Yep….just sit down and shut up Ed!
he he he hehe
I missed that, is there a youtube yet?
It was BEE-YOU-TEA-FULL, Elliott. ;-)
Yep.

7:00-7:20 REP. ERIC CANTOR R-Virginia, Minority Whip
I rise in full-throated opposition to this obvious slight to the dim-witted Whip.
Twenty minutes is not *nearly* enough time for any chance of Cantor’s coming up with an intelligent thought.
lol!
he iz jerk
kay, I have to disagree, he answered the question just like a republican, he actually said unequivically that government programs were the problem
he is talking about privitizing medicare
I did like the smack down when he said “that’s because I like to know about it before I speak” but I wasn’t happy one bit with his first response
anyway, off to work
You can see it the way you want to and I’ll see it the way I do. I can tell you that President Obama is saying we have to fix the way some of these programs work. But hey, if you think he’s worse than George Bush & Ronnie Raygun then you can. I’m just not feeling it.
Some of you will have President Obama impeached before soon and will then be scratching your heads on what happened. Sad.
Every time I read a post about one of these repeat offender congress critters I post TERM LIMITS which would at least get someone new in their for a try and would not be consolidating power. I don’t know why people seem to oppose the idea of a letting more people ie making more people participate in their own government. Those who want to remain in public service can serve in OTHER elected positions if they can get elected to them, or a stint in an appointed one.
one person commented
“I guess part of “The Great Nation” cult is that Americans re-elect their Congressional delegations at a rate of 95-98%.
That means the vast majority of the clowns that put you in the current financial mess through willful inattention, greed, incompetence and malicious self interest, will be returned to do more of the same.
You can count on it, as it is all in the service of “The Great Nation” cult.(gag)
The average American seems to think that it’s the other guy’s Congress Critter that is a bum, but their Rep is great, and can even shit gold bricks to boot.
This is obviously a form of collective mental illness.
…
Even assuming the public accepts how utterly corrupt the political system has become, they will never vote their own Reps out en mass
Nothing has ever stopped the public from doing this except their own mindset.
(queue the old black and white newsreel footage of goose stepping soldiers marching by)
Americans are entirely responsible for their own predicament, the public is nothing more than co-dependent co-conspirators in their own demise at the hands of a ruthless ruling class they symbiotically can’t seem to live without.”
I fully expect some of you today to speaking in tongues along with Senator Bayh today. He is going to need all the help he can get! He’ll love you for your support. Me? I will continue to give that asshole the middle finger.
I did like the smack down when he said “that’s because I like to know about it before I speak”…
Eugene Robinson was wondering whether Obama wasn’t layin’ in the weeds with that comeback.
hmm, a President who thinks ahead – are they allowed to do that? I can’t remember….
I will continue to give that asshole the middle finger.
Hey – that’s my senator you’re talkin’ about there.
So give him one for me too, k?
Okay. LOL
I still shudder when I think how close we came to having Evan
BlerghBayh as Vice President.don’t get defensive kay, nobody could be worse then bush but when our president gets up there and the first thing he talks about is making government programs more efficient, then he talks about incentives for private business, when in fact these government programs work exponentially more efficient then their private counter parts, I have to take pause
don’t fall into the republican trap of agreeing with everything the president says and does because you are a member of his party or like the way he speaks
I am going to hold his feet to the fire and I wish other democrats did too
right now he’s giving our money to banks and talking about privitizing the government programs that are saving us
I can’t see how this makes a progressive happy, yes I know he’s only been in office a short while but he is not becomming more progressive his path is more neo con
not to fight with you kay, of course I respect your opinion and understand what I see is clearly not what others see
anyway, off to work for real
Mornin Joe says it’s a flat out lie, he knew for much longer than a few days. So there.
at least he’d have been neutered as a Veep.
First original thought that asshole has ever come up with, and it’s “hey – how’s about a bunch of us pretend that we’re republicans and fuck some stuff up?”
OT good news: Yesterday Gainesville defeated an amendment to the city charter by a vote of 58% to 42% that would have removed sexual orientation and gender identity from its non-discrimination protection. I did an Oxdown earlier this week on the election for those who would like more details about the group that wrote the amendment.
BT is up early
DoucheBorough’s authority as to flat-out lies comes from personal experience. Sounds like he’s getting bat-shittier crazy all the time – but I quit watching, so I don’t
knowcare.I have to say he definitely see Wall Street as one of his important constituencies. I don’t know how he ways them all and their needs, but the appearance is that he feels that Wall Street’s well being is key to the nation’s well being and so he wants to FIX their mess.
Conceptually we DO need a working banking and “finance” sector, but the crucial issue, which Obi skirts is what does that look like, how does it work, what is it’s main function and how is it structured and controlled.
The capitalists demanded and got a completely “unfettered free market” finance sector which all happens to include the banking and credit function within it that serves Main Street. These functions also became arenas for huge profit, leverage, and use of their new power to be “creative” in finance in banking without control or regulation.
The 900 pound gorilla here is if Obi will strip away the nonsense, the gaming, the abuse and “downsize” his finance constituency to one that serves the needs of the people, more then themselves – the wealthy. I don’t think he wants to do that, certainly as much and as thoroughly as it needs to be done. He seems to believe that they can get with the program, be come chaste, less greedy and more “on the NATION’s team as opposed to their own teams. I think this is naive and it won’t happen.
Democratic government is a creation which is to serve the people not the “special interests” – remember that phrase? What we have seen is that the right see government as serving the poor by taking away from the rich and they want it’s power reduced and controlled and reigned it and they want their freedom. They got it and they screwed the pooch. They also cleverly bought the media, control the message, brainwashed and numbed the people, bought the critters and used the revolving doors of government and business to make sure their agenda was adhered to. It was. And as long as the status qup remains – control of media, private contributions to pols, revolving doors, absence of regulation, undemocratice and progressive tax regimens nothing will change.
We do need change and it appears that Obi talked the talk but is not walking the walk or is delusional and things he can get there by dancing with the devil. His counselors and advisers indicate his belief in this approach. Let the wizened wolves guard the henhouse.
I don’t think so.
Amen, sister.
I concur with the opinion that there are things for which Obama should be called to account (and it seems that’s been pretty much all it’s been at the Lake recently) but everyday there’s some piece of positive news that wouldn’t have happened without him. Examples: changes in stem cell policy; EPA calling a temporary halt to lopping off the tops of mountains and dumping the debris in streams, etc. They may be seemingly small in comparison to his economic policies but they sure as hell wouldn’t have happened had mcpain/failin been sittin’ in the WH as we speak. And Dog knows where we would be economically right now were those two in charge!
Wha? You’re concentrating on all the good President Obama has done so far which has made the right wingers of America (and the conservadems!) drag their asses on the carpet like a dog with worms because they can’t handle it? Damn you! You’re supposed to hate, despise, and create false conspiracies to cover up the fact that George Bush allowed the Financial Orgy of the Planet to happen under his watch and it’s time President Obama be blamed for all of it!
Stop being so positive, Waccamaw. It’s not “IN” at the moment. ;-)
“Positive” ain’t somethin’ I’ve ever been accused of before so today is definitely a “first”. *G*
Go join a Tea Bagging Club! They’d love to have on board, SanderO. From what I can tell they don’t have many participants which could be because of their own delusions and rational Americans don’t want to be a part of it!
Just so you know, I think they’re using “Red Rose” tea bags.
Oh me too! I hate positive. LOL
