RICE: No. No one was arguing that Saddam Hussein somehow had something to do with 9/11.
ROSE: No one.
RICE: I was certainly not. The President was certainly not. … That’s right. We were not arguing that.
Really. Is that your final answer?
In his book, Bush At War, Bob Woodward noted that Bush said after 9/11, “I believe Iraq was involved, but I’m not going to strike them now.” Rice was no exception either. On Sept. 15, 2002, she said that Saddam had “links to terrorism [that] would include al-Qaeda.” As late as September 2006, she remarked, “there were ties going on between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein’s regime going back for a decade.” Cheney still believes there was a link between Iraq and al Qaeda.
Oops. Damn those pesky historical documents. Think Progress has more examples here, although they inexplicably omit the day Condi’s State Department predecessor threw his reputation away.
It’s not the Bushies’ willingness to lie that amazes me so, nor their willingness to lie about lying – it’s their willingness to lie even when they know that everyone except the guy from Memento knows they’re lying.

Well, just fuck her.
I mean, really, fuck you, Condi.
Absurd, yes. Not really shocking since these people clearly do not know the difference. Lying comes so easily they make no distinction. We’ve all paid a very high price.
What about the WH leaks to Judy Miller? Condi was unaware the WH was hyping a story?
If only we could get them to lie in court. I mean this is not just a traffic violation we are talking about.
Dugg and hello, Eli.
Hi, Eureka.
DUGG thanks to the Lurking ES!
Much better response than mine;)
They’ve lied about every frikkin’ thing from the beginning. Everything. Every thing. Every single thingy thing thing. If you challenged their credibility from the beginning of their administration….you were just demonized as a conspiracy theorist. That is why they have gotten away with all of their lies…Somebody needs to go back and weed through everything they touched and hold them accountable…maybe someday.
Condi lying about 9/11 why nobody will believe you. Its war crimes that you should worry about. An illegal war who cares, torture innocent people and your a dominatrix in Bruno Magli thigh high boots in the history books even if you avoid a trial.
I used to enjoy Charlie Rose… but he never ever corners even the most egregious lying war criminals.
He’s as bad as Meet The Press… he just smiles more and lets them talk longer.
well, it’s not much of an argument. laughable pseudo-intellectual gonna get laughed out of the room if she ever teaches a course at stanford. probably one of those noncredit things, LOL
The Sky is Falling The Sky is Falling The Sky is Falling
Well we all know they lied about that also.
I see a new Movie coming entitled ” The Never Ending
StoryLie” The true story of the George W Bush Presidency! These people will probably get away with the destruction and misery they’ve caused (sad to say), but do they have to rub our faces in their shit?
Have some fucking decency.
Charlie Rose is a complete ignoramus. He doesn’t have a clue when his guests are lying because he has no command of the facts.
If Rose had the opportunity to interview Hitler, he’d spend the time talking about painting.
No, the sky did fall on the economy.
Ooops. “The economy had never been stronger.”
I think “Condi” should be interviewed by John Stewart then we just might get some truthful answers from this fraud! At the very least we would get some great snark from John!
“it’s on tape!!!”
or some further advanced type of media (h/t Marshall McLuhan).
this chit is just ridiculous by now!!
it always was!
MEANING THAT these lyin’ asshats don’t seem to GET IT that we NO LONGER NEED rely on scribes with a limited supply of INK in their WELLS!
c h i t!!!!!
this stuff is getting soooooo old!
s
Did Samantha Bee ever do a rip-off on Condi?
Can’t they learn from Jon Stewart…”Roll 215″.
And architecture. (Not that there is anything wrong with architecture)
He’s part of the problem.
It would be nice if she ran into brendan at the bus stop, also.
Thanks, Eli!
If she did I missed it. Damm
Condi is/was a specifically useful compartment that was compartmentalized by Bruce the Dick. That was his M.O. Sort of like a toxic asset that was chopped and diced and no one can ever know what anything ever was. That is Bruce the Dick and his ilk’s M.O., and they’ve done it with everything, including most notably the economy, but not excluding truth coming from the media, etc., etc., etc. Everything they touched.
Rachel is on a real high tonight.
i have people in and out tonight, clients, friends from near and afar and I”M missing Rachel.
waaaaah!
s
This is amazing.
It assaults the listener with such outrageous bullshit that is so preposterous no one would ever think of saying such things, and they do, with straight faces.
This is verbal assault on a populace grown very tired of lies and still, still we can’t quite believe they’re doing it AGAIN!
You’ll have to replay it. She’s positively giddy about WSJ stopping lying about EFCA, and having Michelle’s brother on.
Maybe Condi is a robot.
Chatty Condi
Don’t insult robots.
Maybe she’s a blow-up doll.
And good analysis of the de-regulation that allowed the mess we’re in.
Bill Moyers is on PBS…with Mike Davis…yikes.
Michelle’s brother got off to a slow start, but is really in his own in explaining the strong personal character that comes out in those involved in pick-up basketball.
I missed most of that. Doing laundry. (ugh)
The constant right wing drumbeat of “liberal bias” results in a lot of false equivalency. When in the course of a political debate, one side is clearly distorting or misrepresenting facts it is a great disservice to the public for the moderator to pretend that those statements are valid… but it happens all the time.
Michelle’s brother seemed really scared to be on TV. He did a great job, but hardly smiled at all. I’d guess he’ll get used to it pretty quickly.
Very good…esp about the need to re-empower labor.
It was excellent for the layman (meaning me). She had pix of Graham and others and talked about how the regulations that were enacted after the Depression were removed thanks to some anti-govt repubs. Especially the one that prevented a bank from being more than a bank (such as also being an ins company). “Get govt. off our backs and we’ll all become rich” was the belief.
You can’t spell LIE without E – L – I
as my grandma always said
60 percent of E L v I s
75% of EvIL!
“Elvis Is Everywhere”
Remember back in the day when Charlie Rose just talked all over his guests? No one could get a full sentence in before Charlie prattled on. Then he got a little better. Now he is over the hill. He still gets interesting people on the show, but he is no interviewer. Letting Condi lie like that was so disreputable that I turned them both off. Shame on him.
That WSJ story made me do a double take … thought the Shiraz from last night was playing tricks with my eyes/brain.
I’ll have to catch teh Goddess later on account of I’m watching NCAA … damn Raven, bmaz and their Trash Talk thread … I should be a good Canuck and support our National Pastime …
ElvisEli wuz here !“Letting Condi lie like that”
Mwahahahahaha!!!!
Remembering would assume that there was a time when I watched Charlie Rose in the first place…
But if he were aggressive and pinned her down then no one would ever come on his show again. Thus the conundrum.
Condi lied like a cheap rug … and Charlie smiled through it all like he was ODing on Amb*en …
Solai @ 20 has it right – John Stewart set a new gold standard for interviews, and every time you see someone lie you will be waiting for him to shout Roll 212 and bust them
KO on Bill Maher now HBO, 9 central time.
I wish ComedyCentral would put up the numbers for TDS last week, esp. when Cramer was on … that might make these talkin’ heads see the value of representing their viewers.
“It’s not the Bushies’ willingness to lie that amazes me so, nor their willingness to lie about lying – it’s their willingness to lie even when they know that everyone except the guy from Memento knows they’re lying.”
Reminds me of the statement that longtime Clintonista,David Geffen, made about the Clintons,as an explanation for his decision to back Obama:
“It isn’t that they lie. It’s that they lie so effortlessly.”
Heh. Had a tipping point tonight. I was reading & eating & reached for the water without looking, which was on the other side of the wine glass. So of course I knocked over the wine, all over my book, place mat, some on the table cloth & chair. Place mat & table cloth are out of the laundry with no stains, chair cleaned up OK, but book will forever have a couple of purple pages and half the book has purple page edges.
Condi needs to re-do her persona…She continues to lie for Chimpy instead of trying to dig her image out of the dirt where it’s been for years…
Excuse my seemed sexism, but this bimbo needs to take a rest day..Go back and see “Spamalot” again…buy some more shoes or just sit in a corner somewhere so that your not in the way…she is worthless….
The talking heads ride the gravy train without being confrontational. Representing the best interests of the public would anger their guests, in addition to their corporate masters, probably get them fired. Better to play along so nobody gets hurt…
I wonder how many internet clicks that episode garnered. Guessing more watched in the internet than television.
Thanks Eli. Good evening firepups.
I read somewhere that Cheney, Condi, Ari and the Cabal are out doing damage control to try and head off any revealing hearings/prosecutions/indictment of Cheney & Co. … going to look for linky.
As you posted earlier.
“The propagandist’s purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human.” Aldous Huxley, The Olive Tree (1937)
Hey Tex!
Yipes … I did that last week, with my first glass of wine.
Luckily, wifey had spread the Burgundy table cloth, which I earlier had disliked … *g*
If no one would come on because they had to tell the truth, then the show is not worth the air time. When are journalists going to man up?
((( BETSY )))
How are ya ratfood?
awwwww! Hi Petro!
Geez, talk about yer lightweights…
Maybe uptempo works better:
Girl of My Dreams, (mp3 stream) Charles Mingus ens.
Never better and yourself?
I caught her number pretty early on. Before 9/11, cspan showed a speech she gave at some friendly group in her area of expertise like Russian-American Chamber of Commerce. She spoke for 20 minutes. She said: Russia is a country of great potential. That’s all, and it took her 20 minutes to say it.
I have never heard her say anything intelligent. Her great speech on “transformative diplomacy,” which she gave shortly after becoming Sec State, said: we’re gonna have more diplomats that speak the local language and we’re gonna get them out of the embassy cocktail party circuit. Took her an hour to say that.
Y’all happen to notice who’s front paging at Oxdown this evening?
O/T … filed under, NO.SHIT.SHERLOCK … Vatican Insiders: Pope Benedict is a disaster !
My table cloth was white background with tiny flowers; red wine. So clean-up was not optional. Made me do my sheets too, so made lemonade out of lemons.
Or convince them that they *are*…
I’d only had about 2 sips, so the wine glass was pretty full. *g*
Shouldn’t you have used the lemon juice on the stains?
I’ve read accounts by her former Stanford colleagues suggesting reports of her alleged “brilliance” might be a tad overstated.
Saw that earlier. Thanks for the reminder. Will go over & add some traffic.
You guys are funny. But now I know where to turn when I overturn my own wine glass when reaching for the remote to tank Charlie Rose.
Used prewash on the stuff that got washed, and salt on the chair. Salt does pretty well absorbing wine stains. But I take your point. :>)
Really ?!! Like the one about her being an expert on Russia, disregarding the fact that she did not speak Russian ?
Especially bad for African Catholics.
Amen to that. My rhetorical question: Are Jon Stewart and TDS staff the ONLY ONES who do video research on their guests? What is WRONG with these supposed telejournalists who — you would think — have tons of video archives at their disposal?
How frustrating that in this alleged technological age, supposed telejournalists do not research the technology!
I wish they all would be like Stewart and say, “Roll 212″ so we could hear their fearful squeaky voices respond: “NO! Not 212!”
Then I would know we’re back in an age of true journalism.
She didn’t exactly have Russia wrapped around her little finger when she was SoS, either.
I’d heard that also, but never tracked it down. You know that the academy is a hotbed of power plays, jealousy, politics (because there’s so little at stake). So you can never take the first story you hear at face value. As Condi was so well connected to the Bushies, I’d guess there was beaucoup jealousy. That does not mean that their evaluation was inaccurate, though.
They have the access, but do they have:
A) The inclination?
B) The staff?
I *know* they don’t have A, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t have B either.
That’s why I would stick with drinking from the bottle (in the bag). There are additional fringe benefits to this method like not having to share park benches and you can scratch practically ANYWHERE and passers by will avert their gaze.
I have heard unflattering things from the student perspective as well.
Guess Putin’s eyes captivated her too.
That’s only because she can’t see Russia from her house.
ROFLMAO
But-but- she is great for the shoe industry!
The complaints sounded plausible, mostly relating to an incurable rigidity in her weltanschauung.
Here’s that link – Cheney feels the heat – from Rawstory
That I can believe. How could any student like a twit (or is it twat) like her? She’s soooo condescending. If I were sitting in her class I would want to do something that the mods won’t let me type here.
@79-ratfood
Just a little tidbit about Stanford.
It was the refuge of choice for Rumsfeld recently. He was provided a Distinguished Fellow chair there for a year or so,starting in 07,[if I’m not mistaken.]
The Rumsfeld appointment enraged much of the faculty and student body, sparking huge controversy.
Stanford and the Hoover Institute is the matrix for all things Neo-Conia .
That’s what made her so perfect for the Bushies, whose middle name is “Rigid.” (No rejoinders about body parts, please.)
I don’t think she taught any classes. She was the provost or something like that.
Couldn’t happen to a more appropriate character. Fingers & toes crossed.
I think she taught before she went into management. I’m too lazy and not interested enough to look it up in her wiki.
Nope … the Russians are very proud of their heritage and I’m sure they were incensed that Condi could not speak their language …
Of course, meeting Bush, Putin must have wondered what frikkin’ language he was speaking …
It annoys them terribly when the square pegs of reality don’t fit the round holes in their logic.
I know … still remains to be seen what, if anything the bozos in Congress will do.
That’s some of the best news I’ve read on the RC church for several decades.
Fleischer really took the cake … and Tweety let him off easy.
I requested no references to body parts. *g*
OT-I’m watching KO. Has he been visiting Boehner’s tanning salon?
My big concern is that he’s wearing a three-piece suit. What year is this?
I wonder if Ratzinger knows that Catholic Priests in Africa are allowed to have wives …
*spew* … OMG !!!
I’m of opposing feelings on what will happen. If up to Obama & congress, there will be no accountability for any of W’s crimes. Thus extreme pessimism. OTOH, there are enough outside forces that won’t let it drop, that might gain popular support. Thus modest optimism.
Keif almost always wear a 3-piece …
I’m gonna do a KO tie watch. Does he ever wear a tie that isn’t lavender or pink?
Who is it who called the pope the Papa Ratzi?
High on the short list of Bush accomplishments, he united nearly all the world leaders in a common belief that he and his administration were treacherous cretins.
Condi is just falling back on the old repuke principle of the Big Lie lovingly handcrafted by Richard Nixon and his protege, Dick Cheney. Let’s not forget that before she was in politics, Condi was a member of the Board of Directors of Exxon. They loved her enough to name a supertanker for her. I never heard a good explanation of how she got that gig.
We have to keep calling Whitehouse and reminding him of his promise to investigate and issue indictments.
He’s young enough to be daring, unlike the old fogies like Leahy and this can be his signature effort as a member
of SJC.
A man in touch with his inner woman
I think that could only be considered an accomplishment if they *weren’t* treacherous cretins.
Except for our dear Prime Minister, Harputz who holds Bush as the epitome of a Great Leader !
My sister just returned from Jamaica. She said everyone there just loves Obama. People wearing his face on t-shirts etc.
She also said that gas is like $1.25 and there are windmills everywhere.
I didn’t know that. Verrry interesting.
I listened to Szulc’s biography of John Paul II. A big part of the RC church’s thrust was in Africa, according to that book (because they are losing out everywhere else). Although, even in that book (and I think Szulc is Polish descent so some large degree of flattery going on) Szulc admitted competition from evangelicals.
Several unflattering thoughts occurred to me about that policy. Relevant to the article you linked: what the hell does the RC church know about people who live in Afica?
Not just Jamaica but all the Islands, Africa & Asia absolutely lurves BO !
We have a winnah!
That would be a good thing.
What surprised me was the late emerging evidence that other leaders’ contempt apparently penetrated the Bush bubble. For example Dubya’s juvenile, “Goodbye from the worlds biggest polluter!”
Gonna take the rest of the first load out of the dryer & put the second load in. Be back soon.
Switched over to Bill Maher. KO’s on. Purple tie for those keeping track.
Some things they learnt the hard way …
A young Lion comes across the new Missionary, who had strayed from his Abbot.
The Lion tosses a ball to the missionary, who’s greatly relieved to have been spared and gladly
tosses the ball back.
This goes on for about 5 minutes when suddenly the Mother Lion appears, surveys the scene
and scolds junior … “How many times have I told you not to play with your food ?”
Bush is not dumb, just very greedy … everyone in the World realized that.
Dumb AND greedy, it seemed to me.
Indeed. I do try. And, contrary to what some might believe, I’m actually pretty good at conversatin’… although not too good at typinatin’
;~P
He was opportunistic and greedy. And when opportunity did not present itself, he made it up.
Closer?
Yeah, he has the unrefined intelligence of a person who somehow managed to attain middle age without ever having worked for anything.
Completely OT and apologies if already noted, but this is odd.
And, the spike in the oil prices is interesting… Was someone expecting/waiting for something to happen?
‘MANAMA, Bahrain – Two U.S. Navy vessels — a nuclear-powered submarine and an amphibious ship — collided before dawn Friday in the mouth of the Persian Gulf, one of the world’s most important sea passages for oil supplies.
There was no damage to the sub’s nuclear propulsion system and no disruption to shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes, said Navy spokesman Lt. Nate Christensen, with the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet.
Still, the unusual collision between members of the same navy sparked a sudden rise in oil prices — which had been declining on the day — even though the strait remained open.’

And yet he was the hero of the “only the rich are hardworking and add value to society” crowd.
That ship of fools was Chevron’s

Hey… Decideratin’ is hard work!
This is a clear provocation by the Iranians … launch Cruise Missiles !
Oh right, those guys aren’t in power any more …
Incurious to the point of being evil. You don’t seek to be the president of the United States if you’re not willing to see both sides of an issue. And that’s just what he did. I would accuse him of being lazy but he had real gusto when it came to campaigning and enriching his friends so that might not fit. But he was certainly intellectually lazy and lacking in empathy like no one I’ve ever seen before.
And Calderone? My wingnut son thinks he’s gonna change Mexico into the bastion of all that wingnuts luv, as soon as he controls the drug cartels.
Amen
julia upstairs
Speaking to my expertise on yoga/self development, he reminds me of so many people, who are deluded in believing that their goals are 100% right and correct and achieving them at all costs is all that matters.
Nothing to see here. Move along. /s
Yes ! Calderone is a clone of Fox.
There are many wealthy people who worked very hard for what they have, there are ALSO those who excel at nothing except opportunism and shameless self promotion. Bush definitely fell in the latter group.
The belief that style matters more than substance might be an acceptable way for a spoiled rich kid to manage his personal affairs. For managing affairs of state… not so much.
I was thinking something very similar..Interesting times..
And there are also lots of poor people who work harder *every* day than Dubya has worked *any* day.
Yep.
I do think you have a funny comment….our little w didn’t even have style.
