Featuring videos from Philadelphia’s own Dr. Dog and from places unknown, Raheem DeVaughnand.
What’s on your mind tonight?
Yo!
dr dog! dood, honky tonk with an alt edge.
Digg is down for maintenance!
Eureka!
They remind me of Little Feat. There’s hope for this younger generation yet. /s
You know things are rough all over when even your shovel needs repair.
I’m stunned by the Obama Administration’s determination to hang Dodd out to dry.
Newtousr..
Am i the only one who feel like they are in a state of shock after watching the last couple days events? I may have to give up on congressional hearings til the congresscritters realize the are the keeper of the zoo.
It’s really working wherever I read wing-nut comments around the blogos. They all have the
talkingsmear points.singing this….its been a bad hair day…..
Gimme a head with hair, long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen
Give me down to there, hair!
Shoulder length, longer (hair!)
Here baby, there mama, Everywhere daddy daddy
Hair! (hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair)
Flow it, Show it;
Long as God can grow it, My Hair!
You are not.
I watched AbuG in Judiciary hearings in ‘07 that left me in less of a swirl than the last 48 hours.
you make me feel guilty for having gotten a haircut today, katymine
I wish you and your hair a speedy recovery :)
hair
We need to figure out a way to get them to post the info we need, like copies of the bonus contracts. For the third time today: if they are hush bribes to those who know how rotten AIG is, they might have confidentiality clauses. We MUST know that.
hair is the dawning of the age of aquarius..
I’m going to start calling you Mrs. Breck if you keep singing that song. /s
AIG and all the other financial leaches have a whole stable of attorneys who bill 100 hours a week to cook up ways to bypass every restriction enacted by congress & the Prez…
There was also a book about hair. Just looked on amazon, but didn’t find it. The authors were on book-tv several years ago. Two female recent BAs, one African-American iirc. They were just plain curious about why hair was so important, and wrote a book about it. Sorry it doesn’t pop up easily anymore, because they asked the right Qs, even if their As were too narrowly focused.
Honey ….. you really do not want to hear me sing…… when your 4 yr old begs you NOT to sing kid songs …….. you know how bad you are……
It doesn’t hurt being able to write a lot of enormous checks that mysteriously find their way into the campaign coffers of whoever.
hey katymine
I’m not giving up, so don’t take my shock and exhaustion the wrong way.
Do you feel like today led towards that happening, or did the kabuki just enable them to keep it all under wraps?
Thanks for that! I rocked and remembered. We struggled for righteousness once in my lifetime; we can do it again.
Oh man, tonight I think my Dad’s right. The Coup d’etat is close to complete. It’s been underway for decades. It’s hard to argue political science today and not smell paradigm shift.
I think I’m sick of politicians and the whores they rode in on.
Distractions, red herrings, whoop-di-do, spin and twirl. They are all miscreants. I’m not liking the Big O so much either. But, hey, I’m nobody.
When I lived in the big city I only sang in the shower or in the car with the windows rolled up. Now that I am miles from nowhere I never have to worry about it.
Kafucki, keeping it under wraps. We, who watched and were previously informed, caught an inkling of other things we didn’t know before. Also, we caught Liddy’s incoherence. But it went over the heads of most, even those who watched a lot of it.
it’s almost impossible to know who might be the good guys. Much less try to stay focused on the top 25 … most egregious issues.
Missed it.
Ah…. just had my nausea meds……. vanilla ice cream and ginger animal crackers….
I missed the moment. Loved the stars recently, though. And how are we now better off? Give me some hope.
The news that Begich went Blue Dog just distresses me. I guess having lost so much money, I won’t be donating to candidates anymore anyway, but, well, you know, shit.
Ginger animal crackers. Sounds OK.
I was (politely) kicked out the church childrens’ choir for getting everyone off key. They offered the alternative of just moving my lips.
I really don’t understand the Ds who, at the top of their game, and with so many genuine problems to deal with, want to join the opposition. Really baffling.
Hurts, I agree.
But for all those who flip, we get some of these, too: Alan Grayson goes yard.
Kos is reporting that Dodd DID change the bonus provisions
Begich ought to refund all blue america contributions if he’s going to join up with the corporatists. I mean he visited with us several times and knows he was or is now nothing but a con.
Did you accept the alternative, or, alternatively, did you figure out another outlet for your creative energies?
Gotta love church! I quit when as a Catholic in the South (having moved from CA as a kid) I saw that blacks had to sit on the outside aisles. What I didn’t know just then was that blacks couldn’t even attend Baptist Church and other mainstream Christian clans. Catholics were non grata in the South…..took me a while to ‘get’ that, also. Christianity has a whole lot of ’splainin’ to do.
Wouldn’t be a bit suprised. Dodd, Schumer, Clinton (several in the house, perhaps mine, Maloney) are wholly owned subs of Wall St.
The way i understand it.. he did at the request of the administration, but didn’t know specifically who requested it.
I think we should press for that specific answer with the White House.
yeah, why do they hate democracy?
But isn’t that illegal? changing a bill when it was already voted on by both chambers? It is like Old Ted Steven’s putting in that Florida road earmark into a bill?
We’re cooked, Kids. And I’ve been exploring for a couple of years now where else I might be more secure/serene. Anyone got ideas? I love America….but, wow, this doesn’t feel like my America. How naive am I!
Oh, I get the denial of democracy, if the trend is going in the opposite direction, as it was from the Reagan era forward. Don’t get it when the trend has changed.
The A is probably obvious. The voters have changed and the Demorats have not. Still, since their income & power depends on recognizing change (Obama included), it seems mighty strange that they are still blind to it.
Campaign contributions obviously trump voters.
Parents offered violin lessons as compensation. Like that didn’t require a good ear. Lasted max 6 mos.
Heh. Guess you missed the point at which the U.S. stopped being a nation of laws. And it didn’t start with W.
May I generously ask if your musical endeavors now consist of listening?
You can Digg it now!
Sunny Nobility, Sing On! Why, I wonder, couldn’t the rest of them pull you along and on key! Jeez.
dugg
Without a hefty amount of savings.. it’s better to batten down the hatches and save the republic, imo.
We wont be welcome in many others places for long anyhow.
I’m thinking Paris if I weren’t so attached to my country house. (NYC has lost a lot of attraction. I used to stand on the corner of 53 & Park and think: this is my “neighborhood” how heady is that. Now, all I want to do at that corner is something that I wouldn’t do and the mods wouldn’t let me type.)
many times through the bush years….. kept asking why do they want to turn this country into Mad Max, Terminator, waterworks and the Mailman movies all rolled into one….. Who will buy the corporate goods when 99% of the population are serfs…… just do not get it……
outsourcing our jobs creates demand in other nations – they are creating more consumers to take our places
I’d love to participate in saving the Republic. I tried by donating to some Blue America candidates. Yeah, right, that worked. I’ve petitioned, voted, walked, spoken out, contacted my critters, etc. I have a terminal, I fear, case of impotence. I think I’d just like to be real quiet for a while.
so what are we….. Soylent Green ?
Oh, I have a very serious (I used to be a VSP=very serious person on a minor level) response to that, which (short verison) is that current VSPs (myself no longer included) do not realize that consumers no longer have the wherewithal to buy stuff.
i think we are the sheep to be fleeced and then forgotten about
Heh. Were it only so. Developing countries are pursuing export-oriented growth. Meaning U.S. as consumer of last resort. Jig’s up.
I went through my financial shock in the first Bush term. Immediately withdrew into the quiet for a few years (moved into the country or traveled to the very quiet spots in other countries). I think in large part because my daily life is so quiet now, it’s the only reason I can stay this involved.
Okay, so we all need to stand up and stand together. We aren’t a huge band, but we’re not no one. I just never thought it would come to this. And, am I continually naive, or is Obama just wiffling? I’d so hoped for more.
Do understand….. worked my ass off for Gore……. that election broke my heart…. dropped out until 2003 when Bush put my kids at risk with the Iraq war. I protested, wrote letters, made a million phone calls, emails, signed petitions, became chair of my local DFA group, worked campaigns, taught PC training, language framing, manager of a phone bank for Kerry, worked every night, weekend, used my vacation for that election. You name it….. I volunteered and worked like a dog…… I’m worn out now…. and when Democrats win…… we really didn’t win…..
i think obama is wanting us to make him do it (iirc lbj said that to mlk about civil rights).
Obama’s part of the problem, not part of the solution. New thought I had tonight, but one that should have occurred sooner: Do you thing a black guy who hadn’t sold his soul could have gotten elected?
Nope, disagree entirely. See my 65. Obama wants us to fade and is coddling us with speeches.
A couple of years ago… well, about 5 years ago, actually….after my daughter had a fabulous wedding in Tuscany, I remember suggesting that we should have an FDL house in Tuscany where we could all just hang out. I had no idea (!) how things would go, but I still like that dream. I love to cook! I love to be serene. I like observing without living in constant financial fear. Buona notte.
I’d contribute and be one of the first residents. All I’m asking for is for someone to rip me from my irrational connection to my house.
I keep waiting for the peeps to wake up and realize we are going to have to make him do it.
If the GOPers turn around divide and conquer (like they are doing with Dodd and the Admin)… And somehow develop a populist message that sticks… we really are screwed.
guess time will provide the answer
buona notte dwr1
I wanted/want to be your gardener. *g*
Two(quiet) albums you ought to look into.. both Van Morrisson
A) No Guru No Method No Teacher
B) Poetic Champions Compose
I know what you mean, but I don’t know what’s so great about having a black guy if he doesn’t have the gumption to stand up to the oligarchy. Did I think he’d sold out totally — No, but I admit to enormous naivite. He has the prize……what’s he going to do with it? Pay off the johns (lobbiests, richies) who put him in power? That’s not what I expected. I, foolishly I guess, expected better.
As opposed to all the
whiteEuropeanover-entitledpeopleMF’ers who have occupied that chair?Jesus Christ.
That’s what he said on the CNN interview, I thought.
Obama’s a mystery to me. I have not liked him from the getgo, but that’s no better than W’s gut. Want better.
Based on what I saw this last election, I’d say no one who hasn’t sold his soul can make it. They marginalized Edwards, Kucinich never had a chance, and just about anyone else with any independence was never a serious possibility in the first place.
Oh, not to denigrate the White sell-outs!
No disagreement.
Sunny, my mom was a piano teacher and had kids who she taught to sing on key. It was real informal and no pressure.
I didn’t vote for Obama, but I still think he will do a lot if the peeps quit handling him with kid gloves.
We have to be loud enough and large enough to break through the likes of Rahm and Summers… much more the rich paymasters.
I haven’t liked him much, either, but mainly because he never showed any willingness to stand up to power before he was elected. If there was ever a time we needed that quality in a leader, it’s now.
This thing with Dodd threw me, I must admit. I don’t know why he’s doing it, but I suspect it has to do with the quote at the bottom of that link. It’s a dumb move, though. If he’d just come out and said something critical of Dodd, it probably would have gone better. To be caught like this, though, will end up looking really bad. At least, it will with folks like me.
ES, love Raheem. He’s from Elkhart Indiana, juding from the lyrics in one of his Myspace page songs.
Haven’t listened to the other one yet.
Agree. Has Marvin Gaye vibe.
Gotta leave u all. Gnite.
I couldn’t be sure where he was from. Myspace page just said Loveland.
G’ nite eCAHN
As you probably read, I’m not that optimistic. Obama hired those guys. He had many to choose from, yet those are the ones he chose. I have to conclude that they’re doing what he put them there to do. If it were just one or two people, I might think otherwise. But it’s them, plus Geithner, and Holder, who now seems to be doing as little as possible to change the Administration’s stance on the rights of terrorism suspects. It’s possible that Holder is acting somewhat independently, but even AGs take direction from the White House.
nite ecahn
Goodnight, eCAHNomics.
I knew I couldn’t watch the hearings today. BP is an issue.
Nite eCahn
g’nite ecahn – time for me to head out myself. g’nite all
nite suz
nite everybody
Goodnight, Suzanne. And neuro.
Yes it’s most damning. But it’s clearly the barrier which must be breached.
nite all fleeing pups.
I’ve never been able to watch CSPAN without being either bored by the nonsense or infuriated by the mendacity. So few congresscritters even ask intelligent questions. When Biden was in the Senate, I’d often wonder what his question was.
Nite ES, nite all
bandwidth was my issue.. reading along here was enough for my BP.
We’ll only have his attention when we have the ability to diminish his power to do what he wants. Until then, it won’t matter who is in the way, because whoever it is will be there expressly to keep us out. By “us”, I mean concerned citizens, BTW, not FDL or lefty blog types in particular.
Goodnight, Margot.
agreed
nite margot
nite you guys. plum liddy’d out
When you put it that way.. it sure makes me want to help push Gaither out the door that much more. Just need to do in a manner where the screaming gopers don’t win credit for it.
All this liddy in the news and not one G. Gordon joke. /s
We are worn out pups.
I am out too…
g’ nite firedogs
Nite, newtonusr.
Goodnight, ES.
Boy, I sure know how to suck the life out of a party, don’t I?
Gaither?
Well, there might be something to that. Depends how much power Obama derives from that guy/gal. Did you mean Geithner, perhaps?
Anyway, removing people who are helpful to him but not to us might turn out to be a good strategy. If we need help from the Republicans, that sounds potentially useful, as well. One thing I keep stressing is that in order to be important politically, you have to be able to hurt or help the politicians who you need to do things for you. Be smart.
I was serious, in a metaphorical way, about sharpening my axe while you guys figure that part out. That’s insider stuff, and I’m not an insider.
Ah, well. With that happy thought, I’m off, too. I’ve gotten hooked on another Iain M. Banks book about how people of the future deal with politics on primitive planets. It’s been very helpful for understanding ours.
Very impressive. Didn’t know that could be done.
Have become a classical music listener in the last decade or so. Joy of that came as a surprise. In retrospect, the choir and violin thing is amusing..
