The Populist Champion of the Everyman is sticking up for those downtrodden, forgotten millionaires at AIG.
DAILY BEAST: How angry does it make you that AIG is using our money to pay $165 million in bonuses to their ill-begotten executives?
BECK: It makes me insane because George Bush shouldn’t have given that money to AIG in the first place. Now we have to care about what their contracts with their people say. Now I’m mad at George Bush and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd making this deal. But I can’t believe that Barack Obama wants to break the contract. What are you talking about? You’ve got a contract. Now if that’s what the government is going to do, saying that they have the right to terminate contracts, well, you’ve got to shut the pie hole on it. It’s one or the other. You can’t just start breaking contracts. If you want to do that, that’s why you let businesses fail.
DB: It’s not our contract with AIG, the people’s contract with AIG. It’s AIG’s contracts with its executives.
BECK: They made those deals with their employees. How could you possibly back out of the AIG contract because it’s popular? It’s a legal contract.
Really shows his true colors, eh?
Beck also reaffirmed his comparison of Al Gore to Joseph Goebbles and claims that President Obama has turned the US into a totalitarian socialist state.
This is the new face of Fox News.

About Firedoglake
…and the same face from CNN. What’s new?
The greatest election ever: 1936, Minnesota’s Eighth Congressional District (which later on was Bob Dylan’s district). The moderate Democratic candidate was a Communist, and he defeated both the extremist Democrat and the incumbent Republican to become the district’s representative in Congress.
Was he asked about the contracts of auto workers?
PS – the Daily Beast is a useless pile of crap. Anything employing Ana Marie Cox is just junk.
There goes Becks populist Cred! If he pushes this story his ratings will sink.
We can hope. However, the people who follow this clown are already idiots. I’m guessing he can spin this nuttiness into something that they will buy. But that’s just me…
I guess the Corporate wing of the GOP is trying to change the 20%ers minds by using appeals from fake media champions of the little guy.
Please say Rush will be doing this next!
And that photo? He looks even more like a dipshit than usual…if that’s possible.
Hmmh, when Detroit went begging to DC for bailout money, wasn’t the UAW contracts the FIRST thing that the government demanded be renegotiated?
Were the union contracts LESS sacrosanct than NON-union Wall Street?
Who’s bankrupted the country-Detroit or Wall Street?
Lose a job, lose a home but bankers get bonuses with your tax dollars?
The 20%ers with their lower education are more likely to lose a job, be cheated by a home loan officer into a loan they can’t afford (its not just dark people), and have less assets to wait out the crisis.
New face of Fux News?
Hardly.
Beck is the TWO face of Fux Noise.
Sure, Glenn, go ahead and bang the drums for the AIG numbnuts. That’ll make you real popular.
Oooooh, Glenn, watch out, the socialist totalitarians are gonna surround you.
What was Beck saying about the auto bailout and the workers contracts?
How can you back out of a contract with multi-millionaires? The same way you ask the UAW to revisit their contract, Beck. What a doofus. Contracts can always be renegotiated if circumstances change. And boy, have they. But doofus Beck hasn’t. He’s still advocating for the pet audience of the GOP, the Haves, not the Have-nots.
Beck and many of the other wing nuts were ok with Bush breaking the single most important contract between the government and the people (hint: there’s a 3-masted frigate named after it). They allow that Bush had some sort of executive prerogative. You’d think they’d permit the current chief executive to have the same powers, though I’d prefer he break the AIG bonus contracts rather than, say, the Bill of Rights.
Well, that particular contract was just a “goddam piece of paper.”
Of course those AIG Execs are the folks he’s going to run off a hide with in “JohnGaltistan”…it won’t be blue-collar workers who had their contracts voided. He’ll be up in the mountains of Montana with Cheney, Scooter, Coulter, Malkin, and their ilk sipping mimosas served by Dominican pool boys while planning their great return as the plutocrats of the devastated nation.
Of course, the lack of productive workers up in their Shangri-lala would lead to some real trials. You can’t eat gold, and there would be no national currency worth using except as toilet paper…so the next Bar-B-Que may be a be bit fatty.
“I wish Rush was here to join us for this wonderful Poi!”
“Oh he’s here, my dear, let’s hope he doesn’t bring on a case of gas.”
If the bankers get the bonuses the Autoworkers should strike to get their contracts back the way they were.
The skills of the Gaults Nation are what Shopping, Complaining and delegating management decisions? Can they farm, weld, build a home etc?
Not much call for Ponzai schemes in this economy. We do not need them!
What’s Beck’s thing?
1 – He really believes it?
2 – He is saying whatever is the opposite of what the Democrats say?
3 – He is sailing in Limbaugh’s wake, trying to catch the same demographic and eventually overtake the old guy?
Man, I’d love to see those folks on a future season of “Survivor.” Except, instead of a tropical paradise, drop them off at the North Pole.
I’ll bet they’d pray for global warming then!
D all of the above?
Santelli on MSNBC sayin’ it’s just millions….
yeah, jerk, it’s millions all right, millions of us absolutely outraged by you and your cronies and the corrupt financial sector that got us in this mess.
Where are prosecutors and RICO when we need them?
Beck is just a softer, more snuggly, Rush.
I’d love to hear that.
Last week he was worried about extra bathrooms that people couldn’t afford but then it wasn’t traders with the extra bathrooms.
Glad you fixed that!
(So, you mean he’s just a heartless, soulless opportunist, but otherwise OK?)
Awwwww, they’re all Howard Beale now. ;)

I really do hope that this is the new face of Fox News, and love to hear Beck rant like this. Nothing like hyperbole to get people on the fence (independents) yawning.
Keep in mind all the 2008 campaign rhetoric from the McCain camp about Obama being a ’socialist,’ yet he wins big. Beck and Fox are only playing to their shrinking base, just whipping up right wing support for their failed messages.
I think this actually works in Obama’s favor, to keep him from doing the radical restructuring and re-regulation that he really *should* be doing, all to the people’s detriment of course.
What a friggin’ retard. Oy.
I also doubt Beck supported state workers from California (most of whom had contracts) who were ordered to take paycuts, voluntarily take unpaid leave, and/or forego vacations so the Governator could pass his budget.
He was already insane and Shrub merely gave AIG (and others) a license to steal more than they already were.
Was that same ‘outrage’ directed at GWB when he unsigned ratified, international treaties?
Beck is just a
softer, more snuggly, weepier Rush. Some say this editing is fixed.
Are we supposed to care?
No, Obama has not turned the US into a totalitarian socialist state. Bush did. Obama’s just going along with the flow.
I guess we know Beck’s position on slavery, too. It’s the same as John C. Calhoun’s. A contract is a contract.
of course…BATSHIT BECK wants them to get their bonuses,HE IS ONE OF THEM….10,000,000;00$$$PER YEAR spread it around the net
If Beck et. al. think that $70/hr. is too much for autoworkers at failing auto companies (even though said workers weren’t paid said amount) then we need a law capping pay of taxpayer-owned financial sector employees of failing corporations to not exceed those of the autoworkers.
BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
In order to gain the political control they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots and misanthropes) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional and vulnerable voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally honest.
Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devil they empowered and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without continuing to accept and “advocate” the immoral values, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.
The survival of today’s shrinking Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.
The idiom about choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.
Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and their disgraceful and shameless licking of Rush Limbaugh’s storm trooper boots is costing them their viability.
As an 85 % shareholder, the US govt needs to tell the would-be recipients of bonuses, “No, the company is not paying bonuses.” Clearly explain why, then walk away. No threats, just facts.
If would-be recipients choose not to purse the bonuses, good for us. If they choose to sue for the bonus, rake their name through the mud like there’s no tomorrow. If they’re awarded the bonus, to some extent, we’ve still won. We’ve established a deterrent and even though the would-be is now a “be”, we’ve still given them the Madoff moniker…a pretty high price to pay.
Think Beck is bad? Yesterday and today Rush Limbaugh was touting the same thing about the AIG thieves. He feels bad for them and thinks they should keep their bonuses (even though they killed the company). Asshole also said the amount of money is only 1% of the bailout money. Spit. It’s not so much about the money. It’s the fact that these assholes were instrumental in killing the company and the only reason why AIG wants to retain them is because new people coming in will see what these assholes have done!
Oh, but Rush feels bad. He said the big bad socialists will come in and take your money too if we’re not careful!
Well, anyway….we’ll have Obama impeached before too long, so Rush won’t have to worry about it.
