It appears that Dick Cheney doesn’t believe in supporting the Commander-in-Chief during wartime.
The Obama administration has endangered Americans and opened the country to further attack by reversing Bush administration anti-terrorism policies such as harsh interrogations of suspects, former Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday.
Cheney told CNN’s "State of the Union" that the Bush administration’s "alternative" interrogation techniques were "absolutely essential" to preventing further assaults like the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.
Critics said those techniques amounted to the torture of prisoners in American custody.
"President Obama campaigned against it all across the country, and now he is making some choices that, in my mind, will, in fact, raise the risk to the American people of another attack," Cheney said.
They must not teach the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy at the University of Wyoming, because the notion that the absence of torture increases terrorist attacks is self-evidently bullshit. But does Cheney really believe headlines like this make us safer?
Cheney also called Iraq a great success, refused to take any responsibility at all for the implosion of the economy and is pissed that Scooter didn’t get a pardon.
If anyone needed a reminder how good it is to be rid of these bunch of criminals we called the Bush administration, Cheney’s appearance on CNN Sunday was it.

No question we’ve moved in the right direction. Anyone know when Dawn Johnson is u for confirmation for OLC? maybe she will get Obama to pull back from some of his more egregious continuations of Cheney policy.
this man is suffering from PUMP BRAIN has for years ,is as demented as Hitler was
Fucking monster.
Would it have been asking too much for John King to have challenged Cheney on some of the crazy stuff he was saying?
Apparently.
John King is one of the dumbest, shallowest Village media whores around.
Help the cat!
Is the Scooter-lack-of-pardon a stand-in for Shooter being pissed he didn’t get his own pardon from W?
Because, he might need one, you know.
Imagine the vacuity when he and wife Dana Bash are in the same room together!
I think you’re being a little kind there.
Thanks for the post, BT.
must create an intense vaccum
Their house is called Hooverville.
cheney is a sociopath and when he says something think the oposite is true in just about every case
the fact that we tortured people makes it MUCH more likely we’ll be attacked again, it’s CREATED terrorists and made us the frigging target
this guy needs to shut the frig up
hey BT
didja see this?…he is an evil little prick

I know. It’s too nice to be in the clutches of Ernst Stavros Cheney.
Anyone know if Cheney is in the pay of al Qaeda? We have gotten consistent reports that American torture and mistreatment of prisoners are the most powerful recruiting tools for al Qaeda. And Cheney wants more of them. So who really is Cheney working for, us or them?
didnt the Taliban go to Houston ,on the pipeline deal?
The leaked Red Cross report reportedly makes for some pretty horrifying reading.. Cheney’s “methods” weren’t just illegal torture, they were downright medieval (suspending people by shackles for days while allowing them sustaining water only by having it sprayed on their faces, for example).

a seat’s being warmed for ya at the ICC, arsehat.

Yes, Cheney used the interview to bash Obama, but he was abetted in that effort by John King. To frame an anti-Obama question for Cheney, King actually used the far right-wing newspaper, Human Events, which, big surprise, had an anti-Obama headline. Seriously, that paper makes cult leader Rev. Moon’s paper almost seem sane. But, CNN’s star, John King, reads Human Events. He knows Dick Cheney does, too. Beyond pathetic. That screen capture below is something we’d expect to see in “The Onion.”
From the non-stop bitching about the current administration here it sure is hard to tell. Save the “hold his feet to the fire” speeches.
that is one great post, I wish a democrat would plaguerize it and use it, I’m pretty certain you would give your heartfelt permission
Of COURSE the Iraqccupation was a grand success BT. Have you seen how much money the Dicktator has made?
Huh. I thought Obama was continuing rendition to other countries…….
Worse yet, Cheney claimed that ”all the money” we had to pour into NOLA after Katrina contributed to the deficit. Did they even spend 100b of the 400b promised? I thought not. Bastard.
Didn’t I see that cat in a James Bond movie?
See #14
And Bennett on with Carville later said ”of course, if we have to waterboard two or three times to keep Americans safe” … well, that’s just hunky dorey he says. He made it sound like a GOOD idea. And we mustn’t stop: oh no, let’s not stop torturing. Torturer!
And Bennett also said wow the NYT on Sunday sez the biggest problem in Baghdad is the stray dogs. So that’s progress.
Bennett has no clue about anything. It was outrageous. And apparently he’s such a mysogenist that widows, orphans, and refugees matter nothing to him.
I “missed” seeing the actual interview, but from this site and Kos (which reprints King’s searing questions) — did he happen to ask Cheney about that morning’s NYT story from Danner on the International Red Cross?
If not, flush CNN down the tubes. Don’t see how they can call themselves a news network.
I wonder how Dick’s financial investment in private prisons in Texas is going…..
do me a favor blub, google “fisa camps”…that’ll tell you how they’re going
it’s THE most un reported story in america
I was fortunate enough to listen to Seymour Hersh and Walter Mondale’s talk at the University of Minnesota (where Hersh mentioned Cheney’s assassination squad). Seymour Hersh made the point that our Constitution worked, because Bush and Cheney are no longer in power. But Mondale was very firm about the need to hold them to account for the way they broke our government, to prevent it from happening again. Mondale compared the Bush government to leaving a loaded gun on the table, someone’s going to seize power again if they’re not dealt with.
The talk can be heard at MPR’s website. Very much worth the time to listen.
Does Cheney believe it? Possibly; he’s driven by ambition and paranoia and expresses it by being the whisperer to power rather than the power. Another way of saying he wants power without public sanction or accountability.
Mostly, though, he’s smart enough to want to stay out of jail. Torture and war crimes carry penalties far greater than obstruction of justice.
Note to Self:
MUST buy BT a drink ASAP/STAT! for this post!!!
:)))
Does anyone else think he looks like a Dalek?
Great job on the picture…
not a chance, he’s covering his ass, he thinks if he says torturing people makes us safe people will believe it and he will be forgiven for the crimes we know are being made public
he is doing whatever it takes to head off the red cross paper that was leaked
he knows as a fact torture creates terrorists and more events, he knows as a fact the only reason to torture is to create fear and undrest
he wanted unending war, he got it, now he wants to create the dialogue where people think he has a case to be made
There is a bright side to having Shooter Cheney and Limpy Limbaugh as the visible faces of the Republic Party. Republic poll numbers will remain way, way down. Keep talking, Shooter.
interesting anecdotal observation -
Cheney’s interview has disappeared from CNN’s front page – the only reference was a Begala response 4 down on their top news list
usually in a case of such a ‘get’, news organizations beat the drums and toot their horns for a few days – but it isn’t anywhere on that front page – not so much as a downpage vid box – nada
great picture. great post. i hope cheney pisses off obama enough to release the criminal investigators.
…. and CNN = hacks
I’m not sure Obama isn’t using torture. He says he isn’t, but then so did W. The CIA has a long history of torture, and I’d guess it would take more than one speech by a prez to make them forego it.
It’s OK Dick, I’ll still pursue quail with you…my place or yours? /s
OMG i had no idea.
that answers sooo many questions.
and, pass the brain bleach, please!
Citizen Hugh:
Cheney and the entire Bush family and American ruling class have been vassels of “al Qaeda” (read Saudis) for a LOOOONG time…Obama’s reluctance ta restore the constitution and go after the torturers and murderers is his acknowledgement that the American ruling class and our corporate shell state are at the mercy of interests other than the people of this country. Obama’s no dummy, he didn’t get this far as a black man in America only to be brought down by the same folks that brought JFK down…we’re in a BIG tub of shit here.
Since the US is still not a signatory to the ICC, he’s probably OK as long as he stays in the US.
But like Henry Kissinger, it will definitely put a crimp in the countries he can visit overseas.
Free the cat!

Aaaarrrgggghhhh, who knows what terrible things the cat has seen?
are there wheelchair ramps in federal prison?
Raise your right front paw. Do you solemnly….
Isn’t it funny that the guys like Cheney and Rove both who should be in jail still get the mike. What was CNN thinking boy the rating we will get by letting this guy flap his lips. They still go to jail and ask Charlie Manson what he thinks so I guess Cheney isnt much worse. Anyone who believe or cares about one word from this guy is a loony tune themselves. I can’t think of a word from his mouth I ever believed or ever could.
