Just spoke with electoral commission people on the DL and they told me that their latest count shows a 17-18 point advantage, which, even with fraud, even with missing ballots, even with illegal voters means El Salvador has ended 150 years of rule by oligarchs and military dictatorships.
And feel free to quote me on that.
I’m tired, inspired and ready to remember family, friends and companeros whose eyes shine down on us this day. Thank you again and be well.
Thanks for everything.
See you back home,
R
Hard to put into words what this feels like. It’s a historic triumph that will, one hopes, put right a lot of things that went very, very wrong.
Congratulations to Roberto and everyone both in and out of El Salvador who struggled so hard for this moment. It’s a great day.

Viva El Salvador!
Congratulations to Roberto and his Compatriots!
could this have happened while Darth was still in office?
and had his, you know, private hit squad?
I won’t assume that Darth is down and out. He is just less visible.
at last, the years of bondage may be over. First act should be to free the women who were jailed for having abortions.
it will be interesting to see how the new rulers will handle their predecessors. maybe we could learn something.
I’ve spent the last 2 hours checking out home rentals, land and housing online.
I didn’t check out El Salvador. Maybe I should.
I am very glad a Bush is not President to greet this news on behalf of the USA
Here in Rancho Cordova you can get a pretty nice condo, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, for around $75000.00. They used to be around $250,000. The only draw back is that it is in Rancho Cordova.
La gente – unida – no sera vencida!
Would that Penny Lernoux, Archbishop Romero, and 75,000 Salvadorans were alive to see this night. If I weren’t so darn tired I’d drive down to Pico Union for the celebrations. Wonderful news.
Wonderful news for the El Salvadorans! And for people power.
Holy Cow, Mare. I was just looking at a 1/2 acre in a canyon with a little, tiny
houseshack built in 1927 for 115,000.And the American River is three blocks away.
Another Raygun junta has bit the dust……. And they won not by using guns but good grassroots campaigning ……..
Almost 30 years I was heavily involved in opposing the horrible Carter-Reagan dirty wars in Central America. It was ultimately extremely dispiriting and I more or less lost my faith in the US (which I had not lost during the Vietnam War — there was a hopeful aspect to the Vietnam War era left.)
This doesn’t exactly repair the damage or bring the dead back to life, but after all these years, it still cheers me up a bit.
How will the military handle this defeat?
But, you once told me there were snakes near the river. Geez, for 3/4 of a million dollars, I could probably make my own river.
Yep and they are going to be poking their nasty little heads out of the ground in about a month. Time to put the dogs on leashes for their walks.
also don’t forget the Bush part of the south American terror from the US….. creation of junta governments, death squads, development of the drug trade to feed the CIA and other operations…….
Is there nothing the Bush Crime Family hasn’t sullied.
I say I want a revolution, we-ll, you know.
Dugg.
Thanks Jane.
Thanks for the good news, Jane. I think I’ll go dream of freedom.
Good Night, Demi.
Nite Nite, Mary. Make sure you wear your boots out there.

Cool I am so glad to be here to here the news:)
Darth must be sooo depressed even death squads can’t keep good folks down forever. Negroponte must be nervous and Castro and Hugo must be wondering if they have a new friend the wing nuts are going to be angry but they got banker bailouts to try and pin on Obama.
I’m a contra too Pat Buchanan I wonder if he will give his take on this news Bwahahahha!
yeah, we’ll see a lot of pat tomorrow i expect
I said this on LHP’s thread but I well thanks Jane:)
I like the way the Lake is going pick an issue try and educate ourselves and focus with allot of posts for a week or more? This is brilliant!
Keep the pressure on don’t let up and as we get more educated we get better at the issue. Sometimes its good to focus.
Or maybe he will be too ashamed to show? Just how many South American countries have gotten free now and gone Left because Bush was busy in Iraq?
Ever the lover of the Mano Blanco, I think he won’t be able to resist.
OT snow in Seattle this morning sure it melted but snow in March? Seems weird
True another chance to spread fear of Commie Brown Men.
What do we know about the new guys in charge what platform did they run on?
Did the global economic crisis Bush caused help our side?
And Negroponte – talk about true believer – he will probably be out there too, if they can apply enough makeup to hide the steaming-red cheeks.
And the blood on his hands
Nite pups

In Grasping-at-straws’ news:
Scalia: You need 4 votes for Obama eligibility case
A lawyer lobbying the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Supreme Court for a review of Barack Obama’s qualifications to be president says a key conservative justice has hinted that another conservative justice has been voting against hearing the dispute.
Attaturk is upstairs!

1. All the colors, yes the colors we see in the springtime with all the of its flowers.
All the colors, when the sunlight shines out through a rift in the cloud and it showers.
All the colors, as a rainbow appears when a storm cloud is touched by the sun.
Chorus
All the colors abound for the whole world around and for ev’ryone under the sun.
All the colors abound for the whole world around and for ev’ryone under the sun.
2. All the colors, yes the colors of people parading on by with their banners.
All the colors, yes the colors of pennants and streamers and plumes and bandannas.
All the colors, yes the colors of people now taking their place in the sun. Chorus
3. All the colors, yes the black and the white and the red and the brown and the yellow.
All the colors, all the colors of people who smile and shake hands and say “Hello!”
All the colors, yes the colors of people who know that their freedom is won.
Chorus

Given the 17% lead in the polls by the FMLN-associated party over ARENAS…the fact it was won by about 3-4% shows just what the level of vote fraud the incumbent government was able to pull off. Still they lost and hopefully will not be able to bring in paid Nicaraguan ballot stuffers next time.
One ARENAS voter said on TV she was paid to vote 4 times.
Many Yanquis are moving to the Lake area of Nicaragua…but it would be wonderful if peace and security can be restored to El Salvador, Honduras, Belize and Chiapas.
