Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed and the True Loves "Stake Your Claim"
Grace Potter and The Nocturnals "Outta My Tree"
Memphis own Sun Studios is known as the birthplace of Rock and Roll where many legends such as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Howlin’ Wolf, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis among others recorded their first hits. Sun shines on at their very best as you will see in tonight’s videos from Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed and the True Loves followed by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Hi Es How’ tricks?
Eureka!
Little playback prob 1:45 in to the first video, anyone else? The Youtubes acting up…
Good evening, bigbrother. Nice friday night with good music and ginger tea.
You?
My bad. one refresh and all better
sweet – thanks es
Hi newtonusr, no problems thru the regular youtube page. Unfortunately my connection speed is slow tonight… would take 15 to 20 mins for me to load it and review again.
Anyone else having trouble viewing the youtubes?
Excellent! Probably just Eli and the True Loves rocking your sound card. /s
Grace Potter’s a kick!
Ever been to Sun Studios Suz? I know they have a seat there with your name on it (and a t-shirt).
ES!
Guinness on the menu here. Celebrating a maybe premature fix to my internet woes.
that grace potter video is sooooo very awesome! thanks for that little bit o sweetness.
They just owned that studio didn’t they? Howlin’ Wolf and Jerry Lee musta been smiling that day.
Yeah, they have their shit together.
Got the second vid okay. I’ll try the first…
Good on you…doing my crunch routine…did a strong wind row aross the bay and skied with the wind driving. Fun work out. The County got hammered in the locla paper for project with Fatal Flaws! Yippee.
Hey you are talking about my favorite breakfast drink … when in Amsterdam…)
never been :( it is on my list (which continues to grow)
I had a hard time deciding which video to post on top… Must admit after listening to both songs half a dozen times tonight I think I like the Grace and The Nocturnals a tiny bit more.
I like the first one but Love the 2nd one. Yeah play it Grace!
I grew up often within 150 miles of it… yet it was a Japanese client who made me take him there from California the first time. Been back several times since.
The vibe is undeniable… especially at night long after hours.
when i was a kid living in n’orleans, we would head up to my grandparents’ place in ky every couple months or so – but never did side trips – twas a straight there, straight back kinda trip. have never been to memphis, nor nashville or florida. there’s a lot of this country i’ve still gotta see
Dugg for Grace Potter.
i’m baaaack. i hadda kick the computer chair outta the way to get up and dance! that was fun.
OMG Suz. Me too. There are so many parts of America I want to see! (I dread visiting the southern states in a lot of ways, but I want to see our country.)
Nashville surprised me… it’’s as much an eastern city as it is southern, imo.
I need to see central Florida, the north east above NYC and Hawaii.
That just made my day, gw!
How’s our katymine doing?
Happy Pi Day from The Four Tops.
alaska and new yawk city, deecee, bohston, maine, new england’s fall colors
It’s a healthy beverage. As is ginger tea…
rachael figured out the pi second on her show tonight
as did getting introduced to grace potter for me!
Most interesting place in Florida to me is Everglades City. Folks there live on another planet. Truly Carl Hiaasen country.
Rachel’s my kinda geek.
Here’s a geek pi tune from Coco Love Alcorn.
heya, ES & pups. Friday at last. On the way home tonight I was listening to Beale Street Caravan which the local jazz station carries on Friday nites. the current program listed, women & the blues, had a number of songs and info on Lucille Bogan, i wasn’t familiar with her. Hooeeey! Apparently she was well known in her day for her raunchy lyrics. Here’s Shave ‘Em Dry from 1935, Lil Kim, here’s a real master.
Hence “Nocturnal”.
I’ve been a fan for a while… most of their youtubes are not the best recording quality. Thank dawg I finally found this one. I think their new album sounds like it might be wish list worthy. Click on their name under the youtube to hear more on their myspace page.
Only flown into South Beach and spent time in the Keys. Really want to see the everglades before they dry up or meet saltwater due to global warming.
She commented at a couple of threads earlier today, on topic, on message.
ES – did you see I gave you a “ding” at Peterr’s thread this afternoon…?
It was – “Get a blog, Cramer.”
Oh yes I did…) Let’s hope Peterr saw it too.
I think somebody with photoshop software needs to try blending Cramers face with Kramer from Sienfeld’s face.
Hey ndfg, if you ever get a chance to hear some Butterbeans and Susie, listen to “I want a hot dog for my roll.” They were in that 1920-1950 range. I just love them.
Joan Osborne has been replaced. And I like Joan quite a lot.
Sugar
The ES tubes are pretty fun…Grace Potter and the Nocturnals interesting genre. Lucille Bogan is very michevious and having lots of fun. Interesting… thanks that kinda came out of the blue.
!!!
In response to ES @ #40:
God forbid.
A bunch more.
Real nice.
I’ve been Everywhere Have you been there?
Would only raise the temptation. /s
Who doesn’t love the stuff you can find over at driftglass’ house?
Stewie vs. Gekko
thanks for the tip, margot, i’ll look for ‘em. My musical taste is quite eclectic but i have a real soft spot for that era.
i clicked on the link to Beale Street Caravan and they have John Hammond as featured artist on the home page. that brought back a stationwagon load of memories. a boyfriend in eugene, oregon (when i lived there) said we had to go listen to john hammond (whom i’d never heard of) that night in portland – a two hour drive. it was the middle of winter with lots of snow on the ground.
we got to the club and found out we had the wrong date. hammond was playing the next night. we slelpt in the stationwagon and next day, hiked in the snow along this gorgeous creek til we got to a hot springs and spent a glorious day in hot springs tubs of water and rolling in the snow.
came back and listened to two sets of john hammond – amazing.
austin hot springs?
what a wonderful story, gw!
I do love that program. I almost always crank up the volume when Beale Street Caravan is on.
or bagby?
Was Cybill Shepherd the host tonight?
looking thru the list i recognized it as bagby hot springs. very magical place with snow on the ground.
i used to go to cougar hot springs a lot as a destination and also on the way back from backpacking trips. but then a lot of transients started hanging out and people were getting their vehicles broken into the parking lot.
belknap is interesting because they’ve made a swimming pool from the hot springs water. you can pay a day fee or stay at the place.
and breitenbush is wonderful. they’ve got hot springs tubs around the place and they heat their cabins with water from the hot springs. and they often have interesting events for the weekends.
have you been to any yet?
yes, she was. I love the way she presents the biographical material.
not yet – saw bagby on oregon field guide one night. i’ve not really done much exploring of oregon – been the portland area a couple times to see my oldest girl and across the river to visit busted. drove around newport when i was at the temporary location. most of my exploring has been in the car and around the coast. furthest north on the coast i’ve been is seaside
I think she’s a native.. I know she keeps a place not far from Beale Street.
time for me to head to the shower – g’nite all
nite suz
Nite Suz;)
Today is the one-year anniversary of the resignation of Eliot Spitzer, Letterman tells me.
Hiya ES
time for me to haul my weary self to bed, i volunteered to work OT tomorrow. G’night Pups, thanks for another night of great music, ES!
G’ nite Suz..
Hi Teddy, To bad old Eliot felt compelled to resign. I wish he hadn’t done so. Maybe he wouldn’t have appointed KG to the Senate.
G’ nite ndfg. My pleasure.
Spitzer saw the chance to save what he had – his marriage – and he took it. Larger scheme – good move.
Sorry, called away. If you have a chance to do the everglades, might want to check out basing in Everglades City.
A trip back in time and seriously funky. Not for the fastidious. Amazing wildlife and easy to get off the beaten path. Last I knew a B&B operation there organized canoe trips in the glades. (Lots of airboats around tho, ugh)
Will keep it in mind. Hope my alligator shoe karma doesn’t get me in to much trouble. /s
Prolly best to leave the shoes home. *bg*
I’m out. Sleep well.
I’m out too.
g’ nite
nite sunny, nite eureka
out here finally
Good morning, pups. It’s Herbert, solo, today. Gail Collins is off. Mr. Herbert, in “Flying Blind in Chicago,” says that the plans and the funding for a new airport in southern Chicago are ready and waiting to be implemented. But the project can’t get off the ground because of the politics. Chicago has politics? Who knew…?
Here he is.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup or honey butter (or both…!) Sooner or later I’m going to have to face the front flower bed, which is completely overgrown with that green stuff that’s supposed to grow in the lawn. I’m considering doing without flowers this year and solarizing that bed, but I don’t think anything short of nuclear weapons could get rid of that stuff I don’t want in there… Have a great day.
Good morning, Marion.
I had the busiest evening imaginable last night and by the time I got to relax, the tv was occupied with the end of the Syracuse basketball game. So now, I’m going to play the Stewart/Cramer interview and just enjoy. While I wait for PUAC.
